In this thesis a model for managing the product data in a product transfer project was created for ABB Machines. This model was then applied for the ongoing product transfer project during its planning phase. Detailed information about the demands and challenges in product transfer projects was acquired by analyzing previous product transfer projects in participating organizations. This analysis and the ABB Gate Model were then used as a base for the creation of the model for managing the product data in a product transfer project. The created model shows the main tasks during each phase in the project, their sub-tasks and relatedness on general level. Furthermore the model emphasizes need for detailed analysis of the situation during the project planning phase. The created model for managing the product data in a product transfer project was applied into ongoing project two main areas; manufacturing instructions and production item data. The results showed that the greatest challenge considering the product transfer project in previously mentioned areas is the current state of the product data. Based on the findings, process and resource proposals for both the ongoing product transfer project and the BU Machines were given. For manufacturing instructions it is necessary to create detailed process instructions in receiving organizations own language for each department so that the manufacturing instructions can be used as a training material during the training in sending organization. For production item data the English version of the bill of materials needs to be fully in English. In addition it needs to be ensured that bill of materials is updated and these changes implemented before the training in sending organization begins.

Tämän diplomityön tarkoituksena on selvittää, kuinka metsäkoneen harvesteripään karsintaterän luotettavuutta voidaan parantaa. Kuormitusten selvittämisen menetelmänä käytettiin venymäliuskamittausta. Analysoinnissa on käytetty nimellisen jännityksen- ja tehollisen lovijännityksen menetelmää. Em. menetelmän tulokset ovat laskettu FEM-laskennalla. Nykyiset terät on analysoitu em. menetelmien käytöstä saaduilla tuloksilla. Analysoinnin tuloksista voitiin tehdä johtopäätös, että terien lujuutta tulee lisätä luotettavuuden parantamiseksi. Saatuja mittaus- ja suunnittelutietoja voidaan tulevaisuudessa hyödyntää uusien terien suunnittelussa.

Internationalization and the following rapid growth have created the need to concentrate the IT systems of many small-to-medium-sized production companies. Enterprise Resource Planning systems are a common solution for such companies. Deployment of these ERP systems consists of many steps, one of which is the implementation of the same shared system at all international subsidiaries. This is also one of the most important steps in the internationalization strategy of the company from the IT point of view. The mechanical process of creating the required connections for the off-shore sites is the easiest and most well-documented step along the way, but the actual value of the system, once operational, is perceived in its operational reliability. The operational reliability of an ERP system is a combination of many factors. These factors vary from hardware- and connectivity-related issues to administrative tasks and communication between decentralized administrative units and sites. To accurately analyze the operational reliability of such system, one must take into consideration the full functionality of the system. This includes not only the mechanical and systematic processes but also the users and their administration. All operational reliability in an international environment relies heavily on hardware and telecommunication adequacy so it is imperative to have resources dimensioned with regard to planned usage. Still with poorly maintained communication/administration schemes no amount of bandwidth or memory will be enough to maintain a productive level of reliability. This thesis work analyzes the implementation of a shared ERP system to an international subsidiary of a Finnish production company. The system is Microsoft Dynamics Ax, currently being introduced to a Slovakian facility, a subsidiary of Peikko Finland Oy. The primary task is to create a feasible base of analysis against which the operational reliability of the system can be evaluated precisely. With a solid analysis the aim is to give recommendations on how future implementations are to be managed.

The present work is a part of the large project with purpose to qualify the Flash memory for automotive application using a standardized test and measurement flow. High memory reliability and data retention are the most critical parameters in this application. The current work covers the functional tests and data retention test. The purpose of the data retention test is to obtain the data retention parameters of the designed memory, i.e. the maximum time of information storage at specified conditions without critical charge leakage. For this purpose the charge leakage from the cells, which results in decrease of cells threshold voltage, was measured after a long-time hightemperature treatment at several temperatures. The amount of lost charge for each temperature was used to calculate the Arrhenius constant and activation energy for the discharge process. With this data, the discharge of the cells at different temperatures during long time can be predicted and the probability of data loss after years can be calculated. The memory chips, investigated in this work, were 0.035 μm CMOS Flash memory testchips, designed for further use in the Systems-on-Chips for automotive electronics.

The thesis examined service offering development of an air freight carrier from the customers' point of view. The study was limited to the biggest business clients of the carrier. Service offering development can be divided into service concept, process and system. The thesis was based on these three themes and quality. Compared to product development, systematic and well-structured service development has been studied little, especially in business market. However, service development is a current issue. Due to growing competition companies should carefully listen to their clients' needs and respond to them by offering right services. Methodology of the thesis is qualitative and representatives of three forwarding companies were interviewed. It was found out that the forwarding companies consider themselves as partners of the airline. In addition to general reliability, the customers value the most fluent terminal processes and electronic communication.

The work aims to analyze the possibilities of utilizing old crane driving AC induction motors in modern pulse-width-modulated variable frequency drives. Bearing currents and voltage stresses are the two main problems associated with modern IGBT inverters, and they may cause premature failure of an old induction motor. The origins of these two problems are studied. An analysis of the mechanism of bearing failure is proposed. Certain types of bearing currents are considered in detail. The most effective and economical means are chosen for bearing currents mitigation. Transient phenomena of cables and mechanism of over voltages occurring at motor terminals are studied in the work. The weakest places of the stator winding insulation system are shown and recommendations are given considering the mitigation of voltage stresses. Only the most appropriate and cost effective preventative methods are chosen for old motor drives. Rewinding of old motors is also considered.

The aim of this Thesis is to study how to manage the front-end of the offering planning process. This includes actual process development and methods to gather and analyze information to achieve the best outcome in customer oriented product offering. Study is carried out in two parts: theoretical part and company related part. Theoretical framework is created introducing different types of approaches to manage product planning processes. Products are seen as platforms and they are broken down to subsystems to show different parts of the development. With the help of the matrix-based approaches product platform related information is gathered and analyzed. In this kind of analysis business/market drivers and cus-tomer/competitor information are connected with product subsystems. This gives possibilities to study product gaps/needs and possible future ideas/scenarios in different customer segments. Company related part consists of offering planning process development in real company environment. Process formation includes documents and tools that guide planning from the information gathering to the prioritization and decision making.

The objective of this study was to find out how project success can be measured in a case where the output of a project is an intangible information product, what kind of framework can be used to evaluate the project success, and how the project assessment can be done in practice. As a case example, the success of a business blueprint project was assessed from the product point of view. A framework for assessing business blueprint project success was made based on a literature review. Furthermore, separate frameworks for measuring information product quality and project costs were developed. The theory of business blueprinting was discovered not to be firmly institutionalized and it is briefly covered in the thesis. The possible net benefits from the strategic business process harmonization were noted to be much more significant than the costs of the business blueprint project. The project was seen as a sufficient success from the viewpoint of the created output.

This thesis concentrates on studying the operational disturbance behavior of machine tools integrated into FMS. Operational disturbances are short term failures of machine tools which are especially disruptive to unattended or unmanned operation of FMS. The main objective was to examine the effect of operational disturbances on reliability and operation time distribution for machine tools. The theoretical part of the thesis covers the fimdamentals of FMS relating to the subject of this study. The concept of FMS, its benefits and operator's role in FMS operation are reviewed. The importance of reliability is presented. The terms describing the operation time of machine tools are formed by adopting standards and references. The concept of failure and indicators describing reliability and operational performance for machine tools in FMSs are presented. The empirical part of the thesis describes the research methodology which is a combination of automated (ADC) and manual data collection. By using this methodology it is possible to have a complete view of the operation time distribution for studied machine tools. Data collection was carried out in four FMSs consisting of a total of 17 machine tools. Each FMS's basic features and the signals of ADC are described. The indicators describing the reliability and operation time distribution of machine tools were calculated according to collected data. The results showed that operational disturbances have a significant influence on machine tool reliability and operational performance. On average, an operational disturbance occurs every 8,6 hours of operation time and has a down time of 0,53 hours. Operational disturbances cause a 9,4% loss in operation time which is twice the amount of losses caused by technical failures (4,3%). Operational disturbances have a decreasing influence on the utilization rate. A poor operational disturbance behavior decreases the utilization rate. It was found that the features of a part family to be machined and the method technology related to it are defining the operational disturbance behavior of the machine tool. Main causes for operational disturbances were related to material quality variations, tool maintenance, NC program errors, ATC and machine tool control. Operator's role was emphasized. It was found that failure recording activity of the operators correlates with the utilization rate. The more precisely the operators record the failure, the higher is the utilization rate. Also the FMS organizations which record failures more precisely have fewer operational disturbances.
