In this paper, we introduced the dressed exciton model of the semiconductor micro-cavity device. In the semiconductor micro cavity of vertical-cavity surface-emission device, the excitons first coupled with the cavity through an intra-electromagnetic field and formed the dressed excitons. Then these dressed excitons decayed into the vacuum cavity optical mode, as a multiparticle process. Through the quantum electrodynamics method, the dipole emission density and system energy decayed equation were obtained. And it was predicted that the excitons decay into a very narrow mode when the exciton-cavity coupling becomes strong enough.

By using three analytical phonon models in quantum wells-the slab model, the guided-mode model, and the improved version of the Huang-Zhu model [Phys. Rev. B 38, 13 377 (1998)], -and the phonon modes in bulk, the energy-loss rates of hot carriers due to the Frohlich potential scattering in GaAs/AlAs multiple quantum wells (MQW's) are calculated and compared to those obtained based on a microscopic dipole superlattice model. In the study, a special emphasis is put on the effects of the phonon models on the hot-carrier relaxation process when taking the hot-phonon effect into account. Our numerical results show that, the calculated energy-loss rates based on the slab model and on the improved Huang-Zhu model are almost the same when ignoring the hot-phonon effect; however, with the hot phonon effect considered, the calculated cooling rate as well as the hot phonon occupation number do depend upon the phonon models to be adopted. Out of the four analytical phonon models investigated, the improved Huang-Zhu model gives the results most close to the microscopic calculation, while the guided-mode model presents the poorest results. For hot electrons with a sheet density around 10(12)/cm(2), the slab model has been found to overestimate the hot-phonon effect by more than 40% compared to the Huang-Zhu model, and about 75% compared to the microscopic calculation in which the phonon dispersion is fully included. Our calculation also indicates that Nash's improved version [J. Lumin. 44, 315 (1989)] is necessary for evaluating the energy-loss rates in quantum wells of wider well width, because Huang-Zhu's original analytical formulas an only approximately orthogonal for optical phonons associated with small in-plane wave numbers. Within the one-dimensional tight-binding model;rnd chi-3 approximation, we have calculated four-wave-mixing (FWM) signals for a semiconductor superlattice in the presence of both static and high-frequency electric fields. When the exciton effect is negligible, the time-periodic field dynamically delocalizes the otherwise localized Wannier-Stark states, and accordingly quasienergy band structures are formed, and manifest in the FWM spectra as a series of equally separated continua. The width of each continuum is proportional to the joint width of the valence and conduction minibands and is independent of the Wannier-Stark index. The realistic homogeneous broadening blurs the continua into broad peaks, whose line shapes, far from the Lorentzian, vary with the delay time in the FWM spectra. The swinging range of the peaks is just the quasienergy bandwidth. The dynamical delocalization (DDL) also induces significant FWM signals well beyond the excitation energy window. When the Coulomb interaction is taken into account, the unequal spacing between the excitonic Wannier-Stark levels weakens the DDL effect, and the FWM spectrum is transformed into groups of discrete lines. Strikingly, the groups are evenly spaced by the ac field frequency, reflecting the characteristic of the quasienergy states. The homogeneous broadening again smears out the line structures, leading to the excitonic FWM spectra quite similar to those without the exciton effect. However, all these features predicted by the dynamical theory do not appear in a recent experiment [Phys. Rev. Lett. 79, 301 (1997)], in which, by using the static approximation the observed Wannier-Stark ladder with delay-time-dependent spacing in the FWM spectra is attributed to a temporally periodic dipole field, produced by the Bloch oscillation of electrons in real space. The contradiction between the dynamical theory and the experiments is discussed. In addition, our calculation indicates that the dynamical localization coherently enhances the time-integrated FWM signals. The feasibility of using such a technique to study the dynamical localization phenomena is shown. [S0163-1829(99)10607-6].

Low-temperature-grown GaAs (LT-GaAs) of 1-um thickness was grown at 250 degrees C on semi-insulating GaAs (001) substrate using EPI GEN-II solid-source MBE system. The sample was then in situ annealed for 10 min at 600 degrees C under As-rich condition. THz emitters were fabricated on this LTGaAs with three different photoconductive dipole antenna gaps of 1-mm, 3-mm, and 5-mm, respectively. The spectral bandwidth of 2.75 THz was obtaind with time domain spectroscopy. It is found that THz emission efficiency is increased with decreasing antenna gap. Two carrier lifetimes, 0.469 ps and 3.759 ps, were obtained with time-resolved transient reflection-type pump-probe spectroscopy.

This report presents the experiments to study the characteristics of the picosecond ultra-wideband pulses coherent radiation. The testing involves bow-tie horn antennas for both the transninting and receiving antenna. Sixteen channels of electrical pulses with 290 ps duration and jitter < 30 ps have been used. The antenna arrays with various frames of 4 x 1, 4 x 2, 4 x 3, 4 x 4 are employed to radiate the pulses. The receiving antenna measures the electrical field in different distance front the transmitting antennas arrant The results show that if the pulses are in coherent condition, the peak power pulse of output by antennas array with N elements are N-2 of that of the single element antenna. This article presents the results of near-resonant Raman scattering measurements on GaAs/AlAs superlattices at room temperature. A strong enhancement of GaAs LO phonon-even modes resulted owing to a dipole-allowed Frohlich interaction in superlattices. Similar to the previous results, the LO phonon-even modes in a polarized configuration are observed. In contrast to previous work, however, what we observed in depolarized configurations is the LO phonon-odd modes instead of even modes. It is confirmed that the selection rules for near-resonant Raman scattering from LO phonons in this kind of superlattices are the same as those for off-resonant scattering. From the second-order Raman scattering, it is confirmed that polarized second-order Raman scattering spectra consist of overtones and combinations of two even modes, and depolarized second-order Raman scattering spectra consist of combinations of an even mode and an odd mode. Our experimental results coincide with the predictions using the recently developed Huang-Zhu model. A brief discussion on interface modes and their combination with confined modes is also presented.

Absorption spectra of YAlO3:Nd for the three crystallographic axes are investigated at room temperature, The spectral strengths indicate that the absorption coefficient of YAlO3:Nd is anisotropic. The anisotropy of the local electric field acting on the rare-earth ion in a laser crystal is considered, An extended Judd-Ofelt theory is applied to calculate the absorption cross sections and oscillator strengths of the electric-dipole transitions in the different principal directions. Three groups of the phenomenological parameters are derived from a least-squares-fitting procedure. We also analyze theoretically the anisotropy of the optical absorption of YAlO3:Nd crystal in detail. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.

The open-short-load (OSL) method is very simple and widely used, for one-port test fixture calibration. In this paper, this method. is extended to the two-port calibration of test fixtures for the first time. The problem of phase uncertainty arising in this application has been solved. The comparison between our results and those obtained with the short-open-load-thru (SOLT) method shows that the method established is accurate enough for practical applications.

The problem of frequency limitation arising in calibration of the test fixtures is investigated in this paper. It is found that at some frequencies periodically, the accuracy of the methods becomes very low, and. the denominators of the expressions of the required S-parameters approach zero. This conclusion can be drawn whether-the test fixtures, are symmetric or not. A good agreement between theory and experiment is obtained.

For the reciprocal-test fixtures, there are six independent S-parameters to. be determined, and the thru-short-match (TSM) calibration can provide eight calibration equations. In this paper, the relation of calibration equations is investigated. It has been shown that the four equations obtained from the measurement with a transmission standard can be used simultaneously in the calibration. Experimental results show that the different choice of equations will lead to quite different solution, and the calibration accuracy can be improved by taking advantages of the established relation among the calibration equations and properly choosing calibration equations.

In this article we perform systematic calculations on low-lying states of 33 nuclei with A=202-212, using the nucleon pair approximation of the shell model. We use a phenomenological shell-model Hamiltonian that includes single-particle energies, monopole and quadrupole pairing interactions, and quadrupole-quadrupole interactions. The building blocks of our model space include one J=4 valence neutron pair, and one J=4,6,8 valence proton pair, in addition to the usual S and D pairs. We calculate binding energies, excitation energies, electric quadrupole and magnetic dipole moments of low-lying states, and E2 transition rates between low-lying states. Our calculated results are reasonably consistent with available experimental data. The calculated quadrupole moments and magnetic moments, many of which have not yet been measured for these nuclei, are useful for future experimental measurements.

High spin states of Dy-144 have been studied through in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopy by using the reaction Mo-92(Fe-56,2p2n). It has been found that the continuation of the ground-state band forks into three Delta I=2 bands above the 8(+) state. This forking has been attributed to the alignments of pi h(11/2)(2) or nu h(11/2)(-2) configurations with the help of the systematics in neighboring nuclei. Additionally a negative-parity sideband of Delta I=2 cascades has been observed to start from the 5((-)) state and continue to a dipole band above the (13(-)) state through another negative-parity sideband of Delta I=2 cascades in between. These structures have been discussed from the viewpoint of a competition between "Magnetic Rotation" and "Anti-magnetic Rotation" based on a classical particles-plus-rotor model.

The magnet design, fabrication, and measurement of HIRFL-CSR (Heavy Ion Research Facility in Lanzhou Cooling Storage Ring) are presented. All magnets will be laminated And welded with an armor-coated surface between two big endplates made of sticking glue 0.5 mm-thick sheets. The dipole of CSRm was chosen an H type with an air circle on the pole to improve the field uniformity. The dipole of CSRe was chosen the C type with an air circle and two air slots on the pole to improve the field homogeneity. Its reproducibility of magnet to magnet was adjusted with inserting small laminating pieces before demountable pole ends to reach less than +/- 2 x 10(-4) at optimized field level. CSRm quadrupoles diameter is 170 mm and has two different lengths, and its endplates were made with punching pieces after coating with epoxy glue, there is chamfered directly on the pole ends to reduce 12th-order contribution of field and without the demountable pole ends. CSRe main quadrupoles diameter is 240 mm and has two different lengths, and its endplates were also made with punching pieces coated with epoxy glue, there is also chamfered directly on the pole ends to reduce 12th-order contribution of field like CSRm.

The CR superconducting magnet is a dipole of the FAIR project of GSI in Germany. The quench of the strand is simulated using FEM software ANSYS. From the simulation, the quench propagation can be visualized. Programming with APDL, the value of propagation velocity of normal zone is calculated. Also the voltage increasing over time of the strand is computed and pictured. Furthermore, the Minimum Propagation Zone (MPZ) is studied. At last, the relation between the current and the propagation velocity of normal zone, and the influence of initial temperature on quench propagation are studied.
