UPDATE NEEDS OF PROFESSIONAL LIBRARY: Diagnosis of teachers and graduate degree from the School of Library, Documentation and Information (EBDI), National University of Costa Rica

This project is a diagnosis of update needs and training for professionals in bibliotecology and its results will be used for the design of a Program of Permanent training in bibliotecology, which will be implemented in Bibliotecology School, Documentation and Information of the National University.The studied population is composed by all the teachers of Bibliotecology School, Documentation and Information of the National University, in October, 2007, and all the graduated students of licentiate of the EBDI from 2000 to 2007.The results of this investigation were obtained by means of a questionnaire that was filled by each one of the members of these two populations, who corresponded to 25 teachers of the EBDI and 18 graduates of licentiate. This one also presents the information that was obtained in interviews realized to the managers of the principal institutions who are professionals contracted in bibliotecology.The results obtained of this diagnosis will allow the elaboration of the Program of Permanent training in bibliotecology, considering the formative needs of the professionals in bibliotecology of the EBDI. This project includes the following products:a) Description of the social and demographic characteristics of teachers and of graduated of licentiate of the EBDI.b) Diagnosis of needs to update and training of bibliotecology professional teachers and of graduated of licentiate of the EBDI.c) Determination of the knowledge and skills that the needs to satisfy what big employers ask for.d) Recommendations for the program. Teaching Library and Documentation at the School of Librarianship, Documentation and Information of the National University

The key to graduate professionals with sufficient capacity to meet the research demands of users, should be the vision and the commissioning of schools and their academic library. All these efforts must be linked systematically to ensure the use of data recorded on their knowledge and information units.

Since the child starts in the teaching - learning is made aware that there is a division of natural resources: renewable and nonrenewable. The role of the school library: resource center in the current educational environment

Principle 7 of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child (UN General Assembly, 1959) states in part: "The child has the right to receive education which will be free and compulsory ... Proposal for linking the school library of the School Education Unit Four Queens in the nursery of J. Francisco Public Library Orlich Tibás Canton, Heredia, Costa Rica

Since classical antiquity, the public library has been the institution that helps people to know their history and face the changes that society increasingly demands. Similarly, school libraries are piloting the learning of children; in them, manage to have their first contact with books, his first great travel stories with dinosaurs, robots, fiction, among others through the stories, legends and knowledge games. School libraries contribute to strengthening reading habits from the earliest years of life.In conducting the research, developed an assessment of the current situation of the two libraries under study, based on the following variables: services, human resources, budget, infrastructure, children's collection, furniture, electronic equipment and audiovisual, recreational interests, needs of information, socio-cultural characteristics and availability. This was achieved through the collection of information externada by children of preschool and junior, mothers or guardians and teachers of the Education Unit of Four Queens and in charge of the School Library Education Unit Four Queens (BEUPCR) and J. Francisco Public Library Orlich (BPFJO).According to the diagnosis and analysis of information, it is shown that the aspects related to personnel, electronic equipment and resources are limited, in addition, there were deficiencies in infrastructure BEUPCR.

Proposal for the creation of a Center for Learning Resources (CRA) in the School of San Lorenzo de Tarrazu

Education is the basis for economic and social development, but there are great inequalities in education and access to documentary resources, audiovisual and technology, a situation that affects school performance. The Organization of the United Nations Educational and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) found a correlation between levels of inequality in a country and performance: the greater the inequality, the worse the performance. Investment in education affects human development and benefit is obtained for the individual and society, which is necessary to ensure social equity, so that there is quality education for all. One of the fundamental purposes of the educational process is to train Costa Rican human thinking, analytical and critical of their environment. The purpose of that is acquired through various methods of academic achievement, learning, participation and constant communication of knowledge between the administrative staff, faculty and students. It is appropriate for schools and colleges have a school library or Resource Center for Learning, it is the gathering, analysis and work of the educational community, working with the intellectual growth of students, faculty, staff and community through access to different services and learning resources provided by the library or CRA.

The Acknowledgment of the Education in the Construction of the School Project

This article collects the main ideas constructed during a research process that allowed an approach to the study of the construction of school identities. The approach undertaken starts off not only from an analysis of the way in which the identities that converge in the dynamics of an educational institution and their relationship with the national educational proposal are constructed and articulated, but also the identification, starting from that analysis, of some possible lines of action on the formation of education professionals.

School-time Extension: Are the School Structure’s Hard Components Modified? Literature Review on the Subject

For more than two decades we have witnessed in Latin America –in Argentina particularly– the development of policies to expand the school day. We understand that the implementation of such policies is an opportunity to observe the behavior of the school’s behavior faced with the attempt to modify one of its hardest components –school-time–; it becomes also a natural laboratory to analyze how much does the traditional organization of school-time can resist, how does it change and how do these changes (if implemented) impact the rest of the school components (spaces, groups, etc.). This paper shows the state of the art of the most significant studies in two research fields, in the context of primary education, on this matter: on the one hand, the studies related to organization and extension of school time and, on the other hand, research on the structural and structuring components of school-related aspects. The literature review indicates that studies on school-time and on the corresponding extension policies and programs do not report the difficulties found when trying to modify the hard components of the school system. Studies with the ‘school system’ as object of study have not approached the numerous school-time extension experiences, although time is one of the structural elements of the system.
