Multiwalled carbon nanotubes display dielectric properties similar to those of graphite, which can be calculated using the well known Drude-Lorentz model. However, most computational softwares lack the capacity to directly incorporate this model into the simulations. We present the finite element modeling of optical propagation through periodic arrays of multiwalled carbon nanotubes. The dielectric function of nanotubes was incorporated into the model by using polynomial curve fitting technique. The computational analysis revealed interesting metamaterial filtering effects displayed by the highly dense square lattice arrays of carbon nanotubes, having lattice constants of the order few hundred nanometers. The curve fitting results for the dielectric function can also be used for simulating other interesting optical applications based on nanotube arrays.

The ability of large-grain (RE)Ba2Cu3O7-δ ((RE)BCO; RE = rare earth) bulk superconductors to trap magnetic fields is determined by their critical current. With high trapped fields, however, bulk samples are subject to a relatively large Lorentz force, and their performance is limited primarily by their tensile strength. Consequently, sample reinforcement is the key to performance improvement in these technologically important materials. In this work, we report a trapped field of 17.6 T, the largest reported to date, in a stack of two silver-doped GdBCO superconducting bulk samples, each 25 mm in diameter, fabricated by top-seeded melt growth and reinforced with shrink-fit stainless steel. This sample preparation technique has the advantage of being relatively straightforward and inexpensive to implement, and offers the prospect of easy access to portable, high magnetic fields without any requirement for a sustaining current source. © 2014 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Suppression of the exciton recombination in GaAs0.7Sb0.3/GaAs/GaAs0.7P0.3 coupled quantum well (CQW) induced by an external magnetic field is investigated theoretically. Unlike the usual electro-Stark effect, the exciton energy dispersion of an exciton is modified by an external in-plane magnetic field, the ground state of the magnetoexciton shifts from a zero in-plane center of mass (CM) momentum to a finite CM momentum, and the Lorentz force induces the spatial separation of electron and hole. Consequently, this effect renders the ground state of magnetoexciton stable against radiative recombination due to momentum conservation. This effect depends sensitively on the thickness and height of GaAs0.7Sb0.3 layer, therefore it could provide us useful infometion about the band alignment of CQW. A Ge/Si(0 0 1) multilayer structure is investigated by cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy and double crystal X-lay diffraction. We find that the multilayer-structure-related satellite peaks in the rocking curve exhibit a similar nonuniform broadening and rye fit the zero-order peak with two Lorentz lineshapes. The ratio of the integrated intensity of two peaks is approximately equal with the anal ratio of the top Ge layer deposited between the areas that are and are not occupied by islands. It proves the existence of vertical-aligned island columns from the viewpoint of macroscopic dimension. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

By using V-prism refractometer, the refractive indices of a polyetherketone (PEK-c) guest-host polymer system were measured with the polymer in solutions. The Lorenz-Lorentz local field formalism was used in the calculation of the refractive indices of the polymers from the measured indices of the polymer solutions and the pure solvent by using V-prism refractometer. The refractive index dispersions of the polymers were obtained by fitting the measured indices of the polymers to Sellmeyer equation. The method allows for an accuracy in index of 0.7% in the determination of the polymer indices. In addition, a large difference between the indices of the polymer and the solvent, and a higher polymer volume fraction in the measured polymer solution are favorable for a high accuracy. The magnetotransport properties of a nominally undoped InGaN thin film grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition were investigated. Resistivity was measured under a magnetic field up to 5 T over the temperature range of 3 to 298 K. The film exhibits a negative magnetoresistance at low temperatures. Its magnitude decreases with increasing temperature, and turns to be positive for temperatures above 100 K. The negative component was described by a model proposed by Khosla and Fischer for spin scattering of carriers in an impurity band. The positive part was attributed to the effect of Lorentz force on the carrier motion. Agreement between the model and the data is presented.

The very long baseline interferometry result of a superluminal radio source PKS 0420-014 at 5 GHz with Shanghai (China), Urumqi (China), Note (Italy), and HartRAO (South Africa) telescopes is presented. Proper motions of the relativistic jet components in the source are calculated. Based on the Self-Compton emission in a uniform spherical model, the beaming parameters of the source are estimated. The results show that PKS 0420-014 has a high Doppler factor of 9.3, a Lorentz factor of 6.5, and a small angle of 5.5 degrees to the line of sight.

A Ge/Si(001) island multilayer structure is investigated by double crystal X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy,and atomic force microscopy. We fit the satellite peaks in the rocking curve by two Lorentz lineshapes, which originate from the wetting layer region and the island region. Then from the ratio of the thick- nesses of the Si and Ge (GeSi) layers as determined by TEM,tbe Ge compositions of the wetting layer and islands are estimated to be about 0. 51 and 0. 67, respectively,according to the positions of the fitted peaks. This proves to be a relatively simple way to investigate the Ge/Si (001) island multilayer structure.

系统研究了a-SiO_x的Raman散射谱及其退火行为,并通过退火技术使Si从SiO_x网络中分凝出来,形成纳米硅和SiO_2的镶嵌结构。并利用Raman散射技术研究了这种复合薄膜中纳米硅的声子态。发现在100~600cm~(-1)的波数范围内,纳米硅的Raman谱可用5条Lorentz线得到很好地拟合,并对这5条线的来源作了确认;观测到了在600~1 100cm~(-1)范围内纳米硅的双声子散射。研究结果表明,镶嵌在SiO_2介质中的纳米硅具有非晶硅相和纳米硅晶相共存的特点,两者均对Raman散射有贡献。不仅观测到了声子限制效应使一级光学声子频率随纳米硅晶粒尺寸减小而红移这一现象,而且还发现(与体硅相比)声子限制效应对二级Raman散射具有增强效应,并对二极散射模的频率也会产生影响。

A modelling study is performed to compare the plasma °ow and heat transfer char- acteristics of low-power arc-heated thrusters (arcjets) for three di®erent propellants: hydrogen, nitrogen and argon. The all-speed SIMPLE algorithm is employed to solve the governing equa- tions, which take into account the e®ects of compressibility, Lorentz force and Joule heating, as well as the temperature- and pressure-dependence of the gas properties. The temperature, veloc- ity and Mach number distributions calculated within the thruster nozzle obtained with di®erent propellant gases are compared for the same thruster structure, dimensions, inlet-gas stagnant pressure and arc currents. The temperature distributions in the solid region of the anode-nozzle wall are also given. It is found that the °ow and energy conversion processes in the thruster nozzle show many similar features for all three propellants. For example, the propellant is heated mainly in the near-cathode and constrictor region, with the highest plasma temperature appear- ing near the cathode tip; the °ow transition from the subsonic to supersonic regime occurs within the constrictor region; the highest axial velocity appears inside the nozzle; and most of the input propellant °ows towards the thruster exit through the cooler gas region near the anode-nozzle wall. However, since the properties of hydrogen, nitrogen and argon, especially their molecular weights, speci¯c enthalpies and thermal conductivities, are di®erent, there are appreciable di®er- ences in arcjet performance. For example, compared to the other two propellants, the hydrogen arcjet thruster shows a higher plasma temperature in the arc region, and higher axial velocity but lower temperature at the thruster exit. Correspondingly, the hydrogen arcjet thruster has the highest speci¯c impulse and arc voltage for the same inlet stagnant pressure and arc current. The predictions of the modelling are compared favourably with available experimental results.

A modeling study is conducted to investigate the plasma flow and heat transfer characteristics of low-power (kW class) arc-heated thrusters (arcjets) with 2:1 hydrogen/nitrogen to simulate decomposed hydrazine as the propellant. The all-speed SIMPLE algorithm is employed to solve the governing equations, which take into account the effects of compressibility, the Lorentz force and Joule heating, as well as the temperature- and pressure-dependence of the gas properties. Typical computed results about the temperature, velocity and Mach number distributions within arcjet thruster are presented for the case with arc current of 9 A and inlet stagnant pressure of 3.3×105 Pa to show the flow and heat transfer characteristics. It is found that the propellant is heated mainly in the near-cathode and constrictor region, with the highest plasma temperature appearing near the cathode tip, and the flow transition from the subsonic to supersonic regime occurs within the constrictor region. The effect of gas viscosity on the plasma flow within arcjet thruster is examined by an additional numerical test using artificially reduced values of gas viscosity. The test results show that the gas viscosity appreciably affects the plasma flow and the performance of the arcjet thruster for the cases with the hydrazine or hydrogen as the propellant. The integrated axial Lorentz force in the thruster nozzle is also calculated and compared with the thrust force of the arcjet thruster. It is found that the integrated axial Lorentz force is much smaller than the thrust force for the low-power arcjet thruster. Modeling results for the NASA 1-kW class arcjet thruster with simulated hydrazine as the propellant are found to be reasonably consistent with available experimental data.

We give a general SU(2)(L) x SU(2)(R) x U(1)(EM) sigma model with external sources, dynamical breaking and spontaneous vacuum symmetry breaking, and present the general formulation of the model. It is found that sigma and pi(0) without electric charges have electromagnetic interaction effects coming front the internal structures. A general Lorentz transformation relative to external sources J(gauge) - (J(A mu) J(A mu)(kappa)) derived, using the general Lorentz transformation and the four-dimensional current of nuclear matter of the ground si ate with J(gauge) = 0, we give the four-dimensional general relations between the different currents of nuclear matter systems with J(gauge) not equal 0 and those with J(gauge) = 0. The relation of the density's coupling with external magnetic field is derived, which conforms well to dense nuclear matter in a strong magnetic field. We show different condensed effects in strong interaction about fermions and antifermions, and give the concrete scalar and pseudoscalar condensed expressions of sigma(0) and pi(0) bosons. About different dynamical breaking and spontaneous vacuum symmetry breaking, the concrete expressions of different mass spectra are obtained in field theory. This paper acquires the running spontaneous vacuum breaking value sigma'(0), and obtains the spontaneous vacuum breaking in tenus of the running sigma'(0), which make nucleon, sigma, and pi particles gain effective masses. We achieve both the effect of external sources and nonvanishing value of the condensed scalar and pseudoscalar paticles. It is deduced that the masses of nucleons, sigma and pi generally depend on different external sources.

通过25MeV/u86Kr离子辐照叠层结晶聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯膜(PET),在不同的电子能损(3.407.25keV/nm)和离子注量(5×10113×1012ions/cm2)辐照条件下,对Kr离子在PET中引起的辐照损伤效应进行了研究。借助傅里叶变换红外光谱分析,通过对样品的红外吸收峰进行扣除基底后的Lorentz拟合,分析了与主要官能团对应的吸收峰强度的变化趋势,研究了化学结构与组分在重离子辐照下的变化规律;利用X射线衍射光谱仪测量,研究了Kr离子在PET潜径迹中引起的非晶化过程,并通过对吸光度和非晶化强度随离子注量的指数衰减规律的分析,获得了不同电子能损离子辐照PET时主要官能团的损伤截面和非晶化截面及对应的潜径迹半径。

The superconducting magnet of the LPT (Lanzhou Penning trap) consists of nine coaxial coils. The maximum magnetic field is 7 T and thus results in a large magnetic force. In order to assure the mechanical stability, it is necessary to do the stress analysis of the magnet system. The 3D Finite Element Analysis of thermal and mechanical behavior was presented in this paper. For the numerical simulation and analysis of the phenomena inside the structure, the ADINA and TOSCA code were chosen right from start. The ADINA code is commonly used for numerical simulations of the structure analysis [1] and the TOSCA code is professional software to calculate the magnetic field and Lorentz Forces. The results of the analysis were evaluated in terms of the stress and deformation.

极化效应对晶体的宏观性质影响很大,人们对它进行了大量的研究工作。利用Lorentz公式确定分子极化率的方法已较为成熟,但是该方法只能给出分子、元胞和键体积等单位体积的极化率,在这些单位体积中至少包括两种离子,所以它不能确定每个离子的极化行为。为了求得离子的电子极化率曾提出过许多近似方法,如假定阳离子极化小,它和自由状态差别不大,主要是阴离子极化,故用自由状态阳离子的极化率代替其在晶体中的极化率进而求
