El amor en Plutarco: la necesaria corrección platónica de Platón

Con ocasión del simposio internacional dedicado al amor en Plutarco, este trabajo fue presentado para mostrar hasta qué punto Plutarco, sobre todo en su Erótico y desde parámetros estrictamente platónicos, con la ayuda de una lógica elemental y a la vez rigurosa, se limita a corregir platónicamente a Platón a fin de que éros y philía puedan ser atribuidos también al amor conyugal.

Luis Cernuda: emotividad platónica versus mentalidad presocrático-aristotélica

El objetivo de este artículo es mostrar cómo, pese a declararse materialista o presocrático-aristotélico, la emotividad poética de Luis Cernuda es claramente platónica o idealista, de tal suerte que la tensión entre realidad y deseo que siempre ha definido su poesía se reafirma también gracias al análisis de su obra desde una óptica más filosófica que literaria.

En certes ocasions –‘La elegía eterna’- Heràclit és per a ell una mena de crossa amb l’ajut de la qual reïx a mostrar poèticament les seves angoixes i, en d’altres –‘La flor tronchada’- necessita realment Heràclit per a il•lustrar la seva visió de Déu i de la vida humana com una lluita o guerra permanent.

New York versus Tragedy and Oedipus. The Legacy of Sophocles and the Sophists in Woody Allen's "Crimes and Misdemeanors"

Beyond the explicit reference to the Greek tragedy and Oedipus, the aim of this article is to show the clear relationship, in the author's opinion, between what the protagonists of the film maintain and the theories of the Greek Sophists about God, the law, etc. An accurate analysis both of their texts and the screenplay of Crimes and Misdemeanors reveals different sophistic roots, which, in this case, cannot be attributed to the constant presence of the Jewish legacy in W. Allen's work.

John Addington Symonds. A Problem in Greek Ethics. Plutarch's Eroticus quoted only in some footnotes? Why?

It is certainly astonishing that an innovating study about the Greek pederasty in England like the one by John Addington Symonds does not quote Plutarch's Eroticus -in fact, it is only cited in some footnotes-, if one bears in mind that this dialogue is an accurate philosophical reflection on Greek eros, in which very often significant ethical themes are approached. The aim of this article is just to reveal the different reasons for such an omission.

El objetivo de este artículo es revelar justamente las razones de índole diversa para una tal omisión.

L'objectiu d'aquest article és revelar justament les raons d'índole diversa per a una tal omissió.

Más allá de la referencia explícita a la tragedia griega y Edipo, el objetivo de este artículo es presentar la estrecha relación, en opinión del autor, entre lo que mantienen los protagonistas en Crimes and Misdemeanors y las teorías de los sofistas griegos sobre Dios, la ley, etc. Una confrontación minuciosa de sus textos con el guión de la película revela claramente unas raíces sofísticas que no pueden ser atribuidas, en este caso, a la presencia constante del legado judío en la obra de W. Allen.

Més enllà de la referència explícita a la tragèdia grega i Èdip, l'objectiu d'aquest article és presentar l'estreta relació, en opinió del autor, entre allò que mantenen els protagonistes a Crimes and Misdemanors i les teories del sofistes grecs sobre Déu, la llei, etc. Una confrontació acurada dels seus textos amb el guió de la pel·lícula revela clarament unes arrels sofístiques que no poden ser atribuïdes, en aquest cas, a la constant presència del llegat jueu en l'obra de W. Allen.

Plutarch conceives Gaiywv as an active and changeable entity between God and rnatter; he must complete a catharsis that makes him better (more akin to God; Being in a higher degree). The task of Gaiyov is to take care of oracles and to guide human lives. If this task has been done correctly, Gaipov ascends to the sun; if not, he falls down to the earth.

El propósito de este trabajo es probar y analizar la influencia de la sabiduría de Heráclito en algunos poemas de Miguel de Unamuno tales como ‘La elegía eterna’ y ‘La flor tronchada’. En ocasiones –‘La elegía eterna’- Heráclito es para él una especie de muleta intelectual con cuya ayuda acierta a mostrar poéticamente sus angustias y, en otras, -‘La flor tronchada’- necesita realmente la filosofía de Heráclito para ilustrar su visión de Dios y de la vida humana como una lucha o guerra permanente.

Miguel de Unamuno and Heraclitus: from ‘The Eternal Elegy’ (‘La elegía eterna’) to ‘The Cut Flower’(‘La flor tronchada’)

The aim of this brief article is to demonstrate and analyze the influence of Heraclitus’s thought on some of the poems written by Miguel de Unamuno, in particular ‘La elegía eterna’ and ‘La flor tronchada’. At times –as in ‘La elegía eterna’– Heraclitus merely serves as a sort of a walking stick, an aid to his efforts to poetically reveal his anxieties. On other occasions –as in ‘La flor tronchada’– he genuinely needs Heraclitus’s philosophy to illustrate his view of human life and its relation to God as unending warfare.

El cos molest en l'obra d'Epictet

The work by Epictetus shows a remarkable amount of allusions to unpleasant aspects of the human body. It deals with expressions which sometimes could be almost considered aischrologia and, on other occasions, they really are. Our contribution approaches this subject and asks which might be the origin of this practice. We suggest the use of those expressions describes the body in terms fitting with Epictetus" stoic philosophy aimed to establish an inner separation between body and the right use of reason leading us into virtue. Furthermore his humble origin as a slave could help him in using unpleasant words without prejudices. Also Arrian could insist on that characteristic when transmitting Epictetus" teachings.

Classical references and their significance in The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann

Although Thomas Mann’s novel The Magic Mountain has been the object of innumerable studies, this paper suggests that so far none of these has given truly close attention to the significance of the classical references in this novel with regard to the search for a true humanism. This is probably owing to the generally held belief that the influence of the classical tradition is relatively inconsequential in relation to the ample conjunction of philosophical ideas on which the novel is based. This article takes a differing view and, through a close analysis and comment of the explicit and implicit classical notions in the text, concludes that these ideas are also a valuable key to a greater comprehension of the ideological design of the main character, Hans Castorp, and to a certain degree they also help to continue to reflect on the most enigmatic and controversial episode of the novel: the young protagonist’s descent to the plain from the magical mountain (Zauberberg) in order to take part in the great tragedy of World War I, alien as is any war to the prevalent but ultimately futile desire that love (Liebe) should in the end prevail in the life of humans.
