An analysis methodology is presented as well as a comparison of results obtained from vortex-induced motion (VIM) model tests of the MonoGoM platform, a monocolumn floating unit designed for the Gulf of Mexico. The choice of scale between the model and the platform in which the tests took place was a very important issue that took into account the basin dimensions and mooring design. The tests were performed in three different basins: the IPT Towing Tank in Brazil (Sept. 2005), the NMRI Model Ship Experimental Towing Tank in Japan (Mar. 2007), and the NMRI Experimental Tank in Japan (Jun. 2008). The purpose is to discuss the most relevant issues regarding the concept, execution, and procedures to comparatively analyze the results obtained from VIM model tests, such as characteristic motion amplitudes, motion periods, and forces. The results pointed out the importance of considering the 2DOF in the model tests, i.e., the coexistence of the motions in both in-line and transverse directions. The approach employed in the tests was designed to build a reliable data set for comparison with theoretical and numerical models for VIM prediction, especially that of monocolumn platforms. This paper provides additional validation to the problem of estimating wave spectra based on the first-order motions of a moored vessel. Prior investigations conducted by the authors have attested that even a large-volume ship, such as an FPSO unit, could be adopted for on-board estimation of the wave field. The obvious limitation of the methodology concerns filtering of high-frequency wave components, for which the vessel has no significant response. As a result, the estimation range is directly dependent on the characteristics of the vessel response. In order to extend this analysis, further small-scale tests were performed with a model of a pipe-laying crane-barge. When compared to the FPSO case, the results attest that a broader range of typical sea states can be accurately estimated, including crossed-sea states with low peak periods. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. The study of biological invasions can be roughly divided into three parts: detection, monitoring, mitigation. Here, our objectives were to describe the marine fauna of the area of the port of São Sebastião (on the northern coast of the state of São Paulo, in the São Sebastião Channel, SSC) to detect introduced species. Descriptions of the faunal community of the SSC with respect to native and allochthonous (invasive or potentially so) diversity are lacking for all invertebrate groups. Sampling was carried out by specialists within each taxonomic group, in December 2009, following the protocol of the Rapid Assessment Survey (RAS) in three areas with artificial structures as substrates. A total of 142 species were identified (61 native, 15 introduced, 62 cryptogenic, 4 not classified), of which 17 were Polychaeta (12, 1, 1, 3), 24 Ascidiacea (3, 6, 15, 0), 36 Bryozoa (17, 0, 18, 1), 27 Cmdana (2, 1, 24, 0), 20 Crustacea (11, 4, 5, 0), 2 Entoprocta (native), 16 Mollusca (13, 3, 0, 0). Twelve species are new occurrences for the SSC. Among the introduced taxa, two are new for coastal Brazil. Estimates of introduced taxa are conservative as the results of molecular studies suggest that some species previously considered cryptogenic are indeed introduced. We emphasize that the large number of cryptogenic species illustrates the need for a long-term monitoring program, especially in areas most susceptible to bioinvasion. We conclude that rapid assessment studies, even in relatively well-known regions, can be very useful for the detection of introduced species and we recommend that they be carried out on a larger scale in all ports with heavy ship traffic.

Most of the works published on hydrodynamic parameter identification of open-frame underwater vehicles focus their attention almost exclusively on good coherence between simulated and measured responses, giving less importance to the determination of “actual values” for hydrodynamic parameters. To gain insight into hydrodynamic parameter experimental identification of open-frame underwater vehicles, an experimental identification procedure is proposed here to determine parameters of uncoupled and coupled models. The identification procedure includes: (i) a prior estimation of actual values of the forces/torques applied to the vehicle, (ii) identification of drag parameters from constant velocity tests and (iii) identification of inertia and coupling parameters from oscillatory tests; at this stage, the estimated values of drag parameter obtained in item (ii) are used. The procedure proposed here was used to identify the hydrodynamic parameters of LAURS—an unmanned underwater vehicle developed at the University of São Paulo. The thruster–thruster and thruster–hull interactions and the advance velocity of the vehicle are shown to have a strong impact on the efficiency of thrusters appended to open-frame underwater vehicles, especially for high advance velocities. Results of tests with excitation in 1-DOF and 3-DOF are reported and discussed, showing the feasibility of the developed procedure.

Ein eindimensionales numerisches Modell der maritimenGrenzschicht (MBL) wurde erweitert, um chemische Reaktionenin der Gasphase, von Aerosolpartikeln und Wolkentropfen zu beschreiben. Ein Schwerpunkt war dabei die Betrachtung derReaktionszyklen von Halogenen. Soweit Ergebnisse vonMesskampagnen zur Verfuegung standen, wurden diese zurValidierung des Modells benutzt. Die Ergebnisse von frueheren Boxmodellstudien konntenbestaetigt werden. Diese zeigten die saeurekatalysierteAktivierung von Brom aus Seesalzaerosolen, die Bedeutung vonHalogenradikalen fuer die Zerstoerung von O3, diepotentielle Rolle von BrO bei der Oxidation von DMS und dievon HOBr und HOCl in der Oxidation von S(IV). Es wurde gezeigt, dass die Beruecksichtigung derVertikalprofile von meteorologischen und chemischen Groessenvon grosser Bedeutung ist. Dies spiegelt sich darin wider,dass Maxima des Saeuregehaltes von Seesalzaerosolen und vonreaktiven Halogenen am Oberrand der MBL gefunden wurden.Darueber hinaus wurde die Bedeutung von Sulfataerosolen beidem aktiven Recyceln von weniger aktiven zu photolysierbarenBromspezies gezeigt. Wolken haben grosse Auswirkungen auf die Evolution und denTagesgang der Halogene. Dies ist nicht auf Wolkenschichtenbeschraenkt. Der Tagesgang der meisten Halogene ist aufgrundeiner erhoehten Aufnahme der chemischen Substanzen in die Fluessigphase veraendert. Diese Ergebnisse betonen dieWichtigkeit der genauen Dokumentation der meteorologischenBedingungen bei Messkampagnen (besonders Wolkenbedeckungsgrad und Fluessigwassergehalt), um dieErgebnisse richtig interpretieren und mit Modellresultatenvergleichen zu koennen. Dieses eindimensionale Modell wurde zusammen mit einemBoxmodell der MBL verwendet, um die Auswirkungen vonSchiffemissionen auf die MBL abzuschaetzen, wobei dieVerduennung der Abgasfahne parameterisiert wurde. DieAuswirkungen der Emissionen sind am staerksten, wenn sie insauberen Gebieten stattfinden, die Hoehe der MBL gering istund das Einmischen von Hintergrundluft schwach ist.Chemische Reaktionen auf Hintergrundaerosolen spielen nureine geringe Rolle. In Ozeangebieten mit schwachemSchiffsverkehr sind die Auswirkungen auf die Chemie der MBL beschraenkt. In staerker befahrenen Gebieten ueberlappensich die Abgasfahnen mehrerer Schiffe und sorgen fuerdeutliche Auswirkungen. Diese Abschaetzung wurde mitSimulationen verglichen, bei denen die Emissionen alskontinuierliche Quellen behandelt wurden, wie das inglobalen Chemiemodellen der Fall ist. Wenn die Entwicklungder Abgasfahne beruecksichtigt wird, sind die Auswirkungendeutlich geringer da die Lebenszeit der Abgase in der erstenPhase nach Emission deutlich reduziert ist.

Satellite remote sensing has proved to be an effective support in timely detection and monitoring of marine oil pollution, mainly due to illegal ship discharges. In this context, we have developed a new methodology and technique for optical oil spill detection, which make use of MODIS L2 and MERIS L1B satellite top of atmosphere (TOA) reflectance imagery, for the first time in a highly automated way. The main idea was combining wide swaths and short revisit times of optical sensors with SAR observations, generally used in oil spill monitoring. This arises from the necessity to overcome the SAR reduced coverage and long revisit time of the monitoring area. This can be done now, given the MODIS and MERIS higher spatial resolution with respect to older sensors (250-300 m vs. 1 km), which consents the identification of smaller spills deriving from illicit discharge at sea. The procedure to obtain identifiable spills in optical reflectance images involves removal of oceanic and atmospheric natural variability, in order to enhance oil-water contrast; image clustering, which purpose is to segment the oil spill eventually presents in the image; finally, the application of a set of criteria for the elimination of those features which look like spills (look-alikes). The final result is a classification of oil spill candidate regions by means of a score based on the above criteria.

Study of K isomerism in the transfermium region around the deformed shells at N=152, Z=102, and N=162, Z=108 provides important information on the structure of heavy nuclei. Recent calculations suggest that the K-isomerism can enhance the stability of such nuclei against alpha emission and spontaneous fission. Nuclei showing K isomerism have neutron and proton orbitals with large spin projections on the symmetry axis which is due to multi quasiparticle states with aligned spins K. Quasi-particle states are formed by breaking pairs of nucleons and raising one or two nucleons in orbitals near the Fermi surface above the gap, forming high K (multi)quasi-particle states mainly at low excitation energies. Experimental examples are the recently studied two quasi-particle K isomers in 250,256-Fm, 254-No, and 270-Ds. Nuclei in this region, are produced with cross sections ranging from several nb up to µb, which are high enough for a detailed decay study. In this work, K isomerism in Sg and No isotopes was studied at the velocity filter SHIP of GSI, Darmstadt. The data were obtained by using a new data acquisition system which was developed and installed during this work. 252,254-No and 260-Sg were produced in fusion evaporation reactions of 48-Ca and 54-Cr projectiles with 206,208-Pb targets at beam energies close to the Coulomb barrier. A new K isomer was discovered in 252-No at excitation energy of 1.25 MeV, which decays to the ground state rotational band via gamma emission. It has a half-life of about 100 ms. The population of the isomeric state was about 20% of the ground state population. Detailed investigations were performed on 254-No in which two isomeric states (275 ms and 198 µs) were already discovered by R.-D. Herzberg, but due to the higher number of observed gamma decays more detailed information about the decay path of the isomers was obtained in the present work. In 260-Sg, we observed no statistically significant component with a half life different from that of the ground state. A comparison between experimental results and theoretical calculations of the single particle energies shows a fair agreement. The structure of the here studied nuclei is in particular important as single particle levels are involved which are relevant for the next shell closure expected to form the region of the shell stabilized superheavy elements at proton numbers 114, 120, or 126 and neutron number 184. K isomers, in particular, could be an ideal tool for the synthesis and study of these isotopes due to enhanced spontaneous fission life times which could result in higher alpha to spontaneous fission branching ratios and longer half lifes.

In der Vergangenheit wurde die Wichtigkeit von Iodverbindungen im Bezug auf die Aerosolbildung in Küstennähe wiederholt bestätigt. Durch Photolyse von flüchtigen iodorganischen Verbindungen (VOIs) können in der Atmosphäre Iodatome gebildet werden. Diese hochreaktiven Radikale wiederum können mit Ozon und/oder OH-Radikalen reagieren. Es werden so unter anderem schwerflüchtige Iodoxide gebildet, die in die Partikelphase übergehen können. Um ein Verständnis für die Mechanismen und chemischen Reaktionen zu bekommen, die zur Bildung von iodhaltigen Aerosolpartikeln führen, müssen auch Vorläufersubstanzen qualitativ und quanitativ bestimmt werden. Ob diese Reaktionen und chemischen Verbindungen auch über dem offenen Ozean einen Beitrag zu Aerosolbildung und somit zur Beeinflussung des weltweitem Klimas leisten, soll in dem EU-Projekt MAP geklärt werden, diese Arbeit ist Teil dieses Projekts. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wurde eine Methode entwickelt, die es zum einen möglich macht, anorganisches Iod in Meerwasser zu bestimmen. Zum anderen sollte eine Methode entwickelt werden, um elementares Iod in der maritimen Atmosphäre zu bestimmen. Es wurde eine Derivatisierungsmethode entwickelt, die es möglich macht elementares Iod in Anwesenheit von Stärke, a-Cyclodextrin oder RAMEA zu derivatisieren. Die Derivatisierung erfolgt zu 4-Iodo-N,N-Dimethylanilin. Durch Extraktion wird der Analyt in die organische Phase überführt. Die Quantifizierung erfolgt anschließend über die Analyse mit GC/MS und externer Kalibrierung. Die absolute Nachweisgrenze für Iod in Wasser beträgt 0,57nmol, für Iodid 0,014nmol und für Iodat 0,115nmol. Die absoluten Nachweisgrenzen für Iod in Anwesenheit eines Absorptionsmittel betragen für Stärke 0,24nmol, für a-Cyclodextrin 0,9nmol und für RAMEA 0,35nmol. Die Analysenmethoden wurden zunächst im Labor entwickelt und anschließend zur Analyse von Realproben verwendet. An verschiedenen Orten wurden Meerwasserproben (auf der Celtic Explorer und in der Nähe der Mace Head Messstation) genommen und deren Iod-, Iodid- und Iodatgehalt bestimmt. Keine der Proben enthielt elementares Iod. Iodid konnte in allen Proben detektiert werden. In Proben, die auf dem offenen Ozean an Bord der Celtic Explorer genommen wurden variierte die Menge zwischen 12µg/L und 90µg/L. Auffällig war hierbei, dass die Proben, die in Küstennähe genommen wurden höhere Iodidkonzentrationen aufwiesen. Ein Einfluss der Küste und der dort vorhandenen Makroalgen ist sehr wahrscheinlich. Meerwasserproben, die in der Nähe der MHARS genommen wurden wiesen höhere Konzentrationen und einen größeren dynamischen Bereich der Iodidkonzentrationen auf. Die Konzentrationen variierten von 29µg/L bis 630 µg/L. Der Iodatgehalt der Meerwasserproben wurde ebenfalls bestimmt. 1µg/L bis 90µg/L Iodat konnte in den Proben vom offenen Ozean detektiert werden. Die Küstenproben wiesen mit 150µg/L bis 230µg/L deutlich höhere Iodatkonzentrationen auf. Es konnte kein Zusammenhang zwischen der Tageszeit und den Iodid- oder Iodatkonzentrationen gefunden werden. Es konnte ebenso kein Zusammenhang zwischen der Fluoreszenz des Meerwassers und den Iodid- oder Iodatkonzentrationen gefunden werden. Auf der Celtic Explorer, wie auch in Mace Head wurden außerdem beschichtete Denuder zur Anreicherung von elementarem Iod aus Luft eingesetzt. Die Denuder, die auf dem Schiff verwendet wurden waren mit Stärke bzw. mit a-CD beschichtet. Die mit Stärke beschichteten Denuder geben so einen Überblick über die Iodkonzentration in Luft über einen längeren Zeitraum (ca. 2-3h), während die mit Cyclodextrin beschichteten Denuder die Iodkonzentration in der letzten halben Stunde der Probennahme widerspiegeln. In fast allen Denudern, die mit Stärke beschichtet waren, konnte mehr Iod nachgewiesen werden, als in denen, die mit a-CD beschichtet waren. Im Allgemeinen konnten in den Proben höhere Iodkonzentrationen gefunden werden, die nachts genommen wurden. Der Grund hierfür liegt in der sehr hohen Photolyserate des elementaren Iods während des Tages. Ein Zusammenhang zwischen der Konzentration von VOIs und dem Iodgehalt konnte nicht gefunden werden. Anhand der genommen Denuderproben von Mace Head konnte festgestellt werden, dass die Iodkonzentration in Denudern, deren Probenahme während Ebbe beendet wurde hoch deutlich höher sind, als die in anderen Denudern. Das lässt sich dadurch erklären, dass Makroalgen während Ebbe in direktem Kontakt zur Luft sind und somit mehr Iod in der Luft zu finden ist. Eine wichtige Frage, die im Zusammenhang mit der Iodchemie in maritimer Umgebung steht konnte im Rahmen dieser Arbeit geklärt werden. In der maritimen Grenzschicht über dem Nordatlantik konnte elementares Iod detektiert werden, d.h. es deutet sich an, dass Iod auch auf dem offenen Ozean einen Beitrag zur Partikelbildung liefern kann und es sich nicht ausschließlich um einen Küsteneffekt handelt.

This work investigates the slamming phenomenon experienced during the water entry of deformable bodies. Wedges are chosen as reference geometry due to their similarity to a generic hull section. Hull slamming is a phenomenon occurring when a ship re-enters the water after having been partially or completely lifted out the water. While the analysis of rigid structures entering the water has been extensively studied in the past and there are analytical solutions capable of correctly predicting the hydrodynamic pressure distribution and the overall impact dynamics, the effect of the structural deformation on the structural force is still a challenging problem to be solved. In fact, in case of water impact of deformable bodies, the dynamic deflection could interact with the fluid flow, changing the hydrodynamic load. This work investigates the hull-slamming problem by experiments and numerical simulations of the water entry of elastic wedges impacting on an initially calm surface. The effect of asymmetry due to horizontal velocity component or initial tilt angle on the impact dynamics is also studied. The objective of this work is to determine an accurate model to predict the overall dynamics of the wedge and its deformations. More than 1200 experiments were conducted by varying wedge structural stiffness, deadrise angle, impact velocity and mass. On interest are the overall impact dynamics and the local structural deformation of the panels composing the wedge. Alongside with the experimental analysis, numerical simulations based on a coupled Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) and FEM method are developed. The experimental results provide evidence of the mutual interaction between hydrodynamic load and structural deformation. It is found a simple criterion for the onset of fluid structure interaction (FSI), giving reliable information on the cases where FSI should been taken into account.

Over the last three decades, international agricultural trade has grown significantly. Technological advances in transportation logistics and storage have created opportunities to ship anything almost anywhere. Bilateral and multilateral trade agreements have also opened new pathways to an increasingly global market place. Yet, international agricultural trade is often constrained by differences in regulatory regimes. The impact of “regulatory asymmetry” is particularly acute for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) that lack resources and expertise to successfully operate in markets that have substantially different regulatory structures. As governments seek to encourage the development of SMEs, policy makers often confront the critical question of what ultimately motivates SME export behavior. Specifically, there is considerable interest in understanding how SMEs confront the challenges of regulatory asymmetry. Neoclassical models of the firm generally emphasize expected profit maximization under uncertainty, however these approaches do not adequately explain the entrepreneurial decision under regulatory asymmetry. Behavioral theories of the firm offer a far richer understanding of decision making by taking into account aspirations and adaptive performance in risky environments. This paper develops an analytical framework for decision making of a single agent. Considering risk, uncertainty and opportunity cost, the analysis focuses on the export behavior response of an SME in a situation of regulatory asymmetry. Drawing on the experience of fruit processor in Muzaffarpur, India, who must consider different regulatory environments when shipping fruit treated with sulfur dioxide, the study dissects the firm-level decision using @Risk, a Monte Carlo computational tool.

Iodine chemistry plays an important role in the tropospheric ozone depletion and the new particle formation in the Marine Boundary Layer (MBL). The sources, reaction pathways, and the sinks of iodine are investigated using lab experiments and field observations. The aims of this work are, firstly, to develop analytical methods for iodine measurements of marine aerosol samples especially for iodine speciation in the soluble iodine; secondly, to apply the analytical methods in field collected aerosol samples, and to estimate the characteristics of aerosol iodine in the MBL. Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) was the technique used for iodine measurements. Offline methods using water extraction and Tetra-methyl-ammonium-hydroxide (TMAH) extraction were applied to measure total soluble iodine (TSI) and total insoluble iodine (TII) in the marine aerosol samples. External standard calibration and isotope dilution analysis (IDA) were both conducted for iodine quantification and the limits of detection (LODs) were both 0.1 μg L-1 for TSI and TII measurements. Online couplings of Ion Chromatography (IC)-ICP-MS and Gel electrophoresis (GE)-ICP-MS were both developed for soluble iodine speciation. Anion exchange columns were adopted for IC-ICP-MS systems. Iodide, iodate, and unknown signal(s) were observed in these methods. Iodide and iodate were separated successfully and the LODs were 0.1 and 0.5 μg L-1, respectively. Unknown signals were soluble organic iodine species (SOI) and quantified by the calibration curve of iodide, but not clearly identified and quantified yet. These analytical methods were all applied to the iodine measurements of marine aerosol samples from the worldwide filed campaigns. The TSI and TII concentrations (medians) in PM2.5 were found to be 240.87 pmol m-3 and 105.37 pmol m-3 at Mace Head, west coast of Ireland, as well as 119.10 pmol m-3 and 97.88 pmol m-3 in the cruise campaign over the North Atlantic Ocean, during June – July 2006. Inorganic iodine, namely iodide and iodate, was the minor iodine fraction in both campaigns, accounting for 7.3% (median) and 5.8% (median) in PM2.5 iodine at Mace Head and over the North Atlantic Ocean, respectively. Iodide concentrations were higher than iodate in most of the samples. In the contrast, more than 90% of TSI was SOI and the SOI concentration was correlated significantly with the iodide concentration. The correlation coefficients (R2) were both higher than 0.5 at Mace Head and in the first leg of the cruise. Size fractionated aerosol samples collected by 5 stage Berner impactor cascade sampler showed similar proportions of inorganic and organic iodine. Significant correlations were obtained in the particle size ranges of 0.25 – 0.71 μm and 0.71 – 2.0 μm between SOI and iodide, and better correlations were found in sunny days. TSI and iodide existed mainly in fine particle size range (< 2.0 μm) and iodate resided in coarse range (2.0 – 10 μm). Aerosol iodine was suggested to be related to the primary iodine release in the tidal zone. Natural meteorological conditions such as solar radiation, raining etc were observed to have influence on the aerosol iodine. During the ship campaign over the North Atlantic Ocean (January – February 2007), the TSI concentrations (medians) ranged 35.14 – 60.63 pmol m-3 among the 5 stages. Likewise, SOI was found to be the most abundant iodine fraction in TSI with a median of 98.6%. Significant correlation also presented between SOI and iodide in the size range of 2.0 – 5.9 μm. Higher iodate concentration was again found in the higher particle size range, similar to that at Mace Head. Airmass transport from the biogenic bloom region and the Antarctic ice front sector was observed to play an important role in aerosol iodine enhancement. The TSI concentrations observed along the 30,000 km long cruise round trip from East Asia to Antarctica during November 2005 – March 2006 were much lower than in the other campaigns, with a median of 6.51 pmol m-3. Approximately 70% of the TSI was SOI on average. The abundances of inorganic iodine including iodine and iodide were less than 30% of TSI. The median value of iodide was 1.49 pmol m-3, which was more than four fold higher than that of iodate (median, 0.28 pmol m-3). Spatial variation indicated highest aerosol iodine appearing in the tropical area. Iodine level was considerably lower in coastal Antarctica with the TSI median of 3.22 pmol m-3. However, airmass transport from the ice front sector was correlated with the enhance TSI level, suggesting the unrevealed source of iodine in the polar region. In addition, significant correlation between SOI and iodide was also shown in this campaign. A global distribution in aerosol was shown in the field campaigns in this work. SOI was verified globally ubiquitous due to the presence in the different sampling locations and its high proportion in TSI in the marine aerosols. The correlations between SOI and iodide were obtained not only in different locations but also in different seasons, implying the possible mechanism of iodide production through SOI decomposition. Nevertheless, future studies are needed for improving the current understanding of iodine chemistry in the MBL (e.g. SOI identification and quantification as well as the update modeling involving organic matters).

Das Penningfallen-Massenspektrometer SHIPTRAP wurde gebaut um HochprÄazi-rnsionsmassenmessungen an schweren Radionukliden durchzufÄuhren, die in Fusions-rnreaktionen produziert und vom Geschwindigkeitsfilter SHIP vom Primärstrahl sepa-rnriert werden. Es besteht aus einer Gaszelle zur Abbremsung der hochenergetis-rnchen Reaktionsprodukte, einem RFQ-Kühler und Buncher zur Kühlung und Akku-rnmulation der Ionen und einem Doppel-Penningfallen-System um Massenmessungenrndurchzuführen. Die Masse wird durch die Messungen der Zyklotronfrequenz desrnentsprechenden Ions in einem starken homogenen Magnetfeld bestimmt. Diese Fre-rnquenz wird mit der Frequenz eines wohlbekannten Referenzions verglichen. Mitrndieser Methode können relative Fehler in der Größenordnung von 10^-8 erreicht werden. Kürzlich konnten die Massen der Nobeliumisotope 252-254No (Z=102) und desrnLawrenciumisotops 255Lr (Z=103) erstmals erfolgreich gemessen werden. Dies warenrndie ersten direkten Massenmessungen an Transuranen. Die Produktionrate dieserrnAtome lag bei etwa eins pro Sekunde und weniger. Die Ergebnisse der Massenmes-rnsungen an Nobelium bestätigen die früheren Massenwerte, die aus Q_alpha-Messungenrnabgeleitet wurden. Im Fall von 255Lr wurde der Massenexzess, der bis dahin nur ausrnsystematischen Trends abgeschätzt wurde, zum ersten Mal direkt bestimmt. DiesernErgebnisse sind ein erster Schritt für die an SHIPTRAP geplante Erforschung derrnRegion der Transurane. Das Hauptziel ist hierbei die Bestimmung der Endpunkternder alpha-Zerfallsketten, die in superschweren Elementen in der Nähe der vorhergesagtenrnStabilitätsinsel ihren Ursprung nehmen.

Diese Arbeit präsentiert Forschungsergebnisse der beiden wissenschaftlichen Projekte POLYSOA und OOMPH. Für das POLYSOA-Projekt, welches sich mit der Oligomerbildung in sekundären organischen Aerosolen befasst, wurden zwei Dicarbonylverbindungen bezüglich ihres Oligomerisationsverhaltens untersucht. Hierfür wurden zunächst verschiedene Herstellungsmethoden für die reinen, wasserfreien Monomere Glyoxal (Ethandial) und Methylglyoxal (2-Oxopropanal) erprobt. Diese wurden mit Reinstwasser umgesetzt und die Reaktionsprodukte massenspektrometrisch mittels Direktinfusion in ein ESI-MS untersucht. Es wurde bei den wässrigen Lösungen von Glyoxal eine starke Tendenz zur Oligomerbildung beobachtet. Die Zusammensetzung dieser Acetal-Oligomere wurde durch MS2-Experimente analysiert. Methylglyoxal bildete bei den durchgeführten Experimenten ebenfalls bei der Reaktion mit Wasser Oligomere. Zum Ausschluss, dass es sich bei den mittels ESI-MS gemessenen Oligomer-Ionen nicht um Ionenquellenartefakte handelte, wurde eine HPLC-Trennung vorgenommen. Diese Experimente ergaben, dass es sich nicht um Artefakte handelt. Als Teil des OOMPH-Projekts wurden mit einem Aerodyne-HRToF-AMS Messungen an Bord des französischem Forschungsschiffes RV Marion Dufresne durchgeführt. Um detaillierte Informationen über die hierbei im organischen Aerosol enthaltenen Moleküle zu erhalten wurde eine neue Methode entwickelt. Es wurde eine Ionenliste erstellt, die mögliche Fragment-Ionen sowie deren exakte Masse enthält. Reihen von homologen Ionen wurden in Gruppen zusammengefasst. Ein selbstentwickelter Algorithmus berechnet die Signalanteile der einzelnen Ionen aus der Ionenliste am Gesamtsignal. Die erhaltenen einzelnen Signalanteile wurden entsprechend den Ionengruppen zusammengefasst. Hieraus können Informationen über die im Aerosol enthaltenen Molekülbausteine erhalten werden. Im OOMPH-Datensatz konnten so Aerosole verschiedener chemischer Zusammensetzung unterschieden werden. Ein Rückschluss auf einzelne Moleküle kann jedoch nicht gezogen werden.

In this thesis, a strategy to model the behavior of fluids and their interaction with deformable bodies is proposed. The fluid domain is modeled by using the lattice Boltzmann method, thus analyzing the fluid dynamics by a mesoscopic point of view. It has been proved that the solution provided by this method is equivalent to solve the Navier-Stokes equations for an incompressible flow with a second-order accuracy. Slender elastic structures idealized through beam finite elements are used. Large displacements are accounted for by using the corotational formulation. Structural dynamics is computed by using the Time Discontinuous Galerkin method. Therefore, two different solution procedures are used, one for the fluid domain and the other for the structural part, respectively. These two solvers need to communicate and to transfer each other several information, i.e. stresses, velocities, displacements. In order to guarantee a continuous, effective, and mutual exchange of information, a coupling strategy, consisting of three different algorithms, has been developed and numerically tested. In particular, the effectiveness of the three algorithms is shown in terms of interface energy artificially produced by the approximate fulfilling of compatibility and equilibrium conditions at the fluid-structure interface. The proposed coupled approach is used in order to solve different fluid-structure interaction problems, i.e. cantilever beams immersed in a viscous fluid, the impact of the hull of the ship on the marine free-surface, blood flow in a deformable vessels, and even flapping wings simulating the take-off of a butterfly. The good results achieved in each application highlight the effectiveness of the proposed methodology and of the C++ developed software to successfully approach several two-dimensional fluid-structure interaction problems.
