Diplomityön pääasiallisena tarkoituksena oli selvittää Peikko Finland Oy:n asiakastyytyväisyyden nykytila sekä kehittää pitkäkestoinen malli asiakastyytyväisyyden säännölliselle mittaamiselle. Työn tarkoituksena ei ole tarjota valmiita ratkaisuja, vaan antaa yrityksen toiminnan ja kilpailukyvyn kehittämistä varten tarvittavaa tietoa asiakaslähtöisestä näkökulmasta. Asiakastyytyväisyystutkimus suoritettiin sähköisenä kyselynä suunnittelutoimistoille ja eri toimialojen asiakkaille. Lisäksi suoritettiin sisäinen kysely yrityksen johtoryhmän keskuudessa. Saatujen vastausten pohjalta saatiin luotua sekä yrityksen sisäinen että ulkopuolinen näkemys asiakastyytyväisyyden tilasta. Yleisesti ottaen asiakastyytyväisyyden tila oli kohtuullisen hyvällä tasolla. Asiakkaiden ja suunnittelutoimistojen kokema tyytyväisyystaso oli keskimäärin yrityksen sisällä oletettua tasoa parempi. Hyvin kriittisiä kehitystarpeita ilmeni suhteellisen vähän. Suurimmat kehitystarpeet liittyivät tuotteiden hinnoitteluun. Diplomityön osalta asiakastyytyväisyystutkimus suoritettiin Suomen asiakaskunnassa. Tulevaisuudessa kehitetyn kyselypohjan pohjalta asiakastyytyväisyysselvitykset on tarkoitus suorittaa koko konsernitasolla.

During the last few years, the discussion on the marginal social costs of transportation has been active. Applying the externalities as a tool to control transport would fulfil the polluter pays principle and simultaneously create a fair control method between the transport modes. This report presents the results of two calculation algorithms developed to estimate the marginal social costs based on the externalities of air pollution. The first algorithm calculates the future scenarios of sea transport traffic externalities until 2015 in the Gulf of Finland. The second algorithm calculates the externalities of Russian passenger car transit traffic via Finland by taking into account both sea and road transport. The algorithm estimates the ship-originated emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur oxides (SOx), particulates (PM) and the externalities for each year from 2007 to 2015. The total NOx emissions in the Gulf of Finland from the six ship types were almost 75.7 kilotons (Table 5.2) in 2007. The ship types are: passenger (including cruisers and ROPAX vessels), tanker, general cargo, Ro-Ro, container and bulk vessels. Due to the increase of traffic, the estimation for NOx emissions for 2015 is 112 kilotons. The NOx emission estimation for the whole Baltic Sea shipping is 370 kilotons in 2006 (Stipa & al, 2007). The total marginal social costs due to ship-originated CO2, NOx, SOx and PM emissions in the GOF were calculated to almost 175 million Euros in 2007. The costs will increase to nearly 214 million Euros in 2015 due to the traffic growth. The major part of the externalities is due to CO2 emissions. If we neglect the CO2 emissions by extracting the CO2 externalities from the results, we get the total externalities of 57 million Euros in 2007. After eight years (2015), the externalities would be 28 % lower, 41 million Euros (Table 8.1). This is the result of the sulphur emissions reducing regulation of marine fuels. The majority of the new car transit goes through Finland to Russia due to the lack of port capacity in Russia. The amount of cars was 339 620 vehicles (Statistics of Finnish Customs 2008) in 2005. The externalities are calculated for the transportation of passenger vehicles as follows: by ship to a Finnish port and, after that, by trucks to the Russian border checkpoint. The externalities are between 2 – 3 million Euros (year 2000 cost level) for each route. The ports included in the calculations are Hamina, Hanko, Kotka and Turku. With the Euro-3 standard trucks, the port of Hanko would be the best choice to transport the vehicles. This is because of lower emissions by new trucks and the saved transport distance of a ship. If the trucks are more polluting Euro 1 level trucks, the port of Kotka would be the best choice. This indicates that the truck emissions have a considerable effect on the externalities and that the transportation of light cargo, such as passenger cars by ship, produces considerably high emission externalities. The emission externalities approach offers a new insight for valuing the multiple traffic modes. However, the calculation of the marginal social costs based on the air emission externalities should not be regarded as a ready-made calculation system. The system is clearly in the need of some improvement but it can already be considered as a potential tool for political decision making.

Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli kehittää suorituskyvyn mittaamisjärjestelmä lämmitysjärjestelmiin keskittyneelle pkt-yritykselle. Lisäksi tutkimuksessa selvitettiin mitä kehitystarpeita on yrityksellä, missä ei ole käytössä suorituskyvyn mittaamisjärjestelmää ja kuinka yritys voi kehittää toimintaa suorituskyvyn mittaamisjärjestelmän suunnittelu- ja implementointiprosessin aikana. Tutkimuksen teoreettisessa osassa käsiteltiin suorituskykyä, sen mittaamista, eri suorituskyvyn mittausjärjestelmiä sekä niiden suunnitteluprosesseja ja käyttöä. Teoriaosuudessa on myös käsitelty suorituskyvyn mittaamisen hyötyjä ja suorituskyvyn mittaamista pk-yrityksissä sekä lämmitysjärjestelmiin keskittyneen yrityksen erityispiirteitä suorituskyvyn mittaamisen kannalta. Tutkimuksen empiirinen osa käsittää case yrityksen esittelyn, sekä yritykseen suunnitellun suorituskyvyn mittausjärjestelmän implementointiprosessin. Suorituskyvyn mittaamisjärjestelmän suunnittelu- ja käyttöönottoprosessi suunniteltiin lämmitysjärjestelmiin keskittyneen pkt-yrityksen erityispiirteet huomioiden. Tutkimuksen tuloksena syntyi suorituskyvyn mittausjärjestelmä joka ottaa huomioon lämmitysjärjestelmiin keskittyvän sekä nopeasti kasvavan pkt-yrityksen erityistarpeet. Tutkimuksessa havaittiin että suorituskyvyn mittaamisjärjestelmän suunnitteluprosessin aikana yrityksen johdon liiketoimintatiedon käyttäminen lisääntyi sekä liiketoimintatiedon hyödyntäminen helpottui valmiiden prosessien myötä.

Audiovahvistimet pohjautuvat yhä useammin D-luokan vahvistimiin niiden korkean hyötysuhteen takia. Tämä mahdollistaa pidemmän käyttöajan tai vastaavasti tehon lisäämisen kannettavissa audiolaitteissa. Kuitenkin, jotta akkukäyttöisestä audiolaitteesta saataisiin suurempaa tehoa, se vaatii yleensä korkeamman jännitteen kuin yksittäisen akun lähtöjännite on. Korkeampi jännite voidaan saavuttaa lisäämällä akkuja tai käyttämällä jännitettä nostavaa hakkuria. Hakkureissa syntyy kuitenkin kytkennästä johtuvaa värettä, mille D-luokan vahvistimet ovat alttiita. Tässä työssä tutkitaan boost- ja Čuk-hakkurin soveltuvuutta jännitteen nostoon akkukäyttöisessä audiolaitteessa. Käytännön sovelluksena toimii Porsas, josta halutaan saada 500 W teho. Työssä tutkitaan audiolaitteen asettamia ehtoja jännitelähteelle sekä hakkurien mitoittamista ehtojen mukaisesti. Työn tutkimustapana on kirjallisuustutkimus ja simulointi. Audiolaitteen jännitelähteeltä vaatima teho vaihtelee suuresti. Tämä tulee ottaa huomioon hakkurin komponenttien mitoituksessa. Lisäksi hakkurin lähtöjännitteen väre pyritään minimoimaan, koska sillä on suuri vaikutus vahvistimen toimintaan. Tulovirran väreen minimoinnilla on pidentävä vaikutus akun purkusykliin. Hakkurien laskennalliset komponenttien arvot sekä simuloinnit osoittavat, että hakkurit olisivat myös mahdollista tehdä käytännössä. Simulointien perusteella boost-hakkurin komponenttien arvot ovat pienempiä kuin Čuk-hakkurin. Boost-hakkurille löytyy myös valmiita ohjainpiirejä enemmän. Toisaalta Čuk-hakkurilla on mahdollista tehdä myös energiansäästötila. Hakkurien ohjaus ja jäähdytys vaatisivat jatkotutkimusta.

Työn tavoitteena on kehittää asiakkaiden käsinhitsausta kartoittamalla heidän hitsaavaa tuotantoa, sekä sen mahdollisia ongelmia. Järjestettävän hitsauskokeen avulla mitataan mekanisoidun hitsauksen tuottavuutta, laatua ja työergonomiaa. Työ sisältää teoreettisen ja käytännöllisen osuuden. Teoreettinen osuus pohjautuu kirjallisuuteen ja käytännöllinen osuus eri yrityksien kyselyihin ja haastatteluihin sekä hitsauskokeeseen. Teoreettinen osuus käsittelee käsinhitsausta ja siihen liittyviä mekanisointiratkaisuja. Käsinhitsauksessa käsitellään yleisimmät käsinhitsausprosessit, käsinhitsattava tuote ja tuotanto sekä sen tuottavuutta. Mekanisointiratkaisuissa käsitellään yleisimmät mekanisointiratkaisut ja laitteet sekä käytännön toteutusta. Käytännöllisessä osuudessa yritykset pitivät nykyisin hitsauksessa tärkeimpänä hitsaajien ammattitaitoa, tuottavuutta, työn mielekkyyttä, laatua sekä työturvallisuutta. Yrityksien tulisi tarkastella tuotannossaan hitsaussolujen sisältöä, sisäistä logistiikkaa ja kappaleiden kiinnitystä. Kappaleenkäsittelijään yrityksiltä tuli paljon kehitysideoita, kuten kiinnitykseen valmiita ratkaisuja sekä pöytälevyyn erilaisia vaihtoehtoja. Hitsauskokeen perusteella kappaleenkäsittelijällä työaika oli 29,4 % pienempi kuin työpöydällä. Laadullisesti koe antoi myös positiivisia tuloksia, käsittelypöydässä hitsattuja rakenteita ei tarvinnut korjata, mutta normaalissa työpöydässä piti, jotta C –luokan vaatimukset täyttyivät. Työturvallisuuden ja ergonomian kannalta suurimmat hyödyt olivat hyvä työasento, huurujen ja kurkottelun vähentyminen, mahdollisten palovammojen vähentyminen sekä vähemmän vaaraa osien putoamisesta.

The starting point of this study is to direct more attention to the teacher and those entrepreneurship education practices taking place in formal school to find out solutions for more effective promotion of entrepreneurship education. For this objective, the strategy-level aims of entrepreneurship education need to be operationalised into measurable and understandable teacher-level practices. Furthermore, to enable the effective development of entrepreneurship education in basic and upper secondary level education, more knowledge is needed of the state of affairs of entrepreneurship education in teaching. The purpose of the study is to increase the level of understanding of teachers’ entrepreneurship education practices, and through this to develop entrepreneurship education. This study builds on the literature on entrepreneurship education and especially those elements referring to the aims, resources, benefits, methods, and practises of entrepreneurship education. The study comprises five articles highlighting teachers’ role in entrepreneurship education. In the first article the concept of entrepreneurship and the teachers role in reflection upon his/hers approaches to entrepreneurship education are considered. The second article provides a detailed analysis of the process of developing a measurement tool to depict the teachers’ activities in entrepreneurship education. The next three articles highlight the teachers’ role in directing the entrepreneurship education in basic and upper secondary level education. Furthermore, they analyse the relationship between the entrepreneurship education practises and the teachers’ background characteristics. The results of the study suggest a wide range of conclusions and implications. First, in spite of many outspoken aims connected to entrepreneurship education, teachers have not set any aims for themselves. Additionally, aims and results seem to mix. However, it is possible to develop teachers’ target orientation by supporting their reflection skills, and through measurement and evaluation increase their understanding of their own practices. Second, applying a participatory action process it is possible to operationalise teachers’entrepreneurship education practices. It is central to include the practitioners’ perspective in the development of measures to make sure that the concepts and aims of entrepreneurship education are understood. Third, teachers’ demographic or tenure-related background characteristics do not affect their entrepreneurship education practices, but their training related to entrepreneurship education, participation in different school-level or regional planning, and their own capabilities support entrepreneurship education. Fourth, a large number of methods are applied to entrepreneurship education, and the most often used methods were different kinds of discussions, which seem to be an easy, low-threshold way for teachers to include entrepreneurship education regularly in their teaching. Field trips to business enterprises or inviting entrepreneurs to present their work in schools are used fairly seldom. Interestingly, visits outside the school are more common than visitors invited to the school. In line, most of the entrepreneurship education practices take place in a classroom. Therefore it seems to be useful to create and encourage teachers towards more in-depth cooperation with companies (e.g. via joint projects) and to network systematically. Finally, there are plenty of resources available for entrepreneurship education, such as ready-made materials, external stakeholders, support organisations, and learning games, but teachers have utilized them only marginally.

In the market where companies similar in size and resources are competing, it is challenging to have any advantage over others. In order to stay afloat company needs to have capability to perform with fewer resources and yet provide better service. Hence development of efficient processes which can cut costs and improve performance is crucial. As business expands, processes become complicated and large amount of data needs to be managed and available on request. Different tools are used in companies to store and manage data, which facilitates better production and transactions. In the modern business world the most utilized tool for that purpose is ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning system. The focus of this research is to study how competitive advantage can be achieved by implementing proprietary ERP system in the company; ERP system that is in-house created, tailor made to match and align business needs and processes. Market is full of ERP software, but choosing the right one is a big challenge. Identifying the key features that need improvement in processes and data management, choosing the right ERP, implementing it and the follow-up is a long and expensive journey companies undergo. Some companies prefer to invest in a ready-made package bought from vendor and adjust it according to own business needs, while others focus on creating own system with in-house IT capabilities. In this research a case company is used and author tries to identify and analyze why organization in question decided to pursue the development of proprietary ERP system, how it has been implemented and whether it has been successful. Main conclusion and recommendation of this research is for companies to know core capabilities and constraints before choosing and implementing ERP system. Knowledge of factors that affect system change outcome is important, to make the right decisions on strategic level and implement on operational level. Duration of the project in the case company has lasted longer than anticipated. It has been reported that in cases of buying ready product from vendor, projects are delayed and completed over budget as well. In general, in case company implementation of proprietary ERP has been successful both from business performance figures and usability of system by employees. In terms of future research, conducting a study to calculate statistically ROI of both approaches; of buying ready product and creating own ERP will be beneficial.

Perehdyttäminen ja osaamisen kehittäminen ovat koko ajan entistä keskeisempiä tekijöitä yritysten menestymisessä entistä nopeammin muuttuvassa maailmassa. Tässä Pro gradu-tutkielmassa tutkitaan uusien esimiesten perehdyttämistä. Tavoitteena on selvittää esimiesten perehdyttämisen toteuttaminen, keskeiset kehittämiskohteet sekä henkilöstöhallinnossa kartoitettujen esimiestyön osaamisvaatimusten näkyminen kohdeorganisaation perehdytysprosessissa. Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan perehdyttämisen ja osaamisen kehittämisen tieteellistä viitekehystä. Tutkimuksessa on yhdistetty laadullisen ja määrällisen tutkimuksen menetelmiä. Tutkimus on toteutettu sähköisenä lomakekyselynä. Uusien esimiesten perehdyttämisen toteuttamisessa oli havaittavissa eroja kohdeorganisaation uusien esimiesten välillä. Pääasiallisena perehdyttäjänä oli toiminut oma esimies. Suuri osa esimiehistä oli melko tyytyväisiä omaan perehdyttämiseensä ja heillä oli positiivisia kehittymisnäkymiä osaamisensa kasvamisesta seuraavan vuoden aikana. Keskeisinä kehittämiskohteina esille nousivat epäyhteneväisyydet perehdyttämisessä, joidenkin uusien esimiesten yksin jääminen sekä perehdyttämisen tukimateriaalien tarve. Esimiestyön osaamisvaatimuksia ei ollut tuotu aktiivisesti esiin prosessin aikana.

The objective of this study was to develop laboratory test methods for characterizing the effects of changed moisture content on paperboard trays produced by press-forming process. Influence of moisture on the properties of unconverted paperboard such as bending stiffness, bursting strength, and curling was studied. Paperboard and tray samples were tested after storing in different relative humidity conditions (35, 50, 65, 80 and 95% RH). The effect of PE and PET extrusion coatings on these properties was also studied. It was found that increase in moisture content of paperboard decreases bending and bursting strength, dimensional stability and stiffness of paperboard trays. Such physical and mechanical properties as bending stiffness and curling of paperboard seem to define the stiffness of ready-made trays and their dimensional stability. Paperboards and trays with extruded PE and PET one sided coatings demonstrated higher strength properties but at the same time had lower dimensional stability comparing to uncoated paperboards. Samples with smaller polymer coat weight had better dimensional stability than respective samples with higher coat weight. It was also found that preconditioning of paperboard in lower humidity environment before press-forming could improve dimensional stability and stiffness of ready-made tray.

The subject of the study is a performance measurement system design of a profit center guided expert organization. Successful performance measurement system allows management to focus on the most important issues and guide the opera-tion of activities towards the objectives. The aim of this study is to examine the profit center organization´s performance measurement, what are the challenges associated with the scorecard, which issues the planning process should take into account, in the case of an expert organization. The study was conducted as a qualitative case study, for a one case study organ-ization. The study was made by interviewing personnel from top management to experts in the case organization. Balanced Scorecard as well as ready-made in-strument implementation models, that are presented in the theoretical part of the study, are being used as the design of the indicators. The target company's performance has been measured so far mainly on financial measures and there have also occasionally been measured employee satisfaction and customer satisfaction. The design of the indicators focused on non-economic, and mainly in the organization´s internal performance measurement. Learning and growth, client and processes were elected as the specific perspectives. The or-ganization's vision and strategy were the basis of the perspectives and the suc-cess factors. The thesis ends on selected indicator proposals derived from the success factors and on proposal for further actions for the case organization. Goal-setting, communication and staff commitment rose as matters should be taken into account in the design process. The results of the empirical study are consistent with the theory.

L’effondrement des repères artistiques (que plusieurs associent aux premiers ready-made de Marcel Duchamp) dévoile les symptômes d’une crise de l’art. Comme l’histoire de l’art est en quelque sorte la représentation de ce que nous sommes, on peut raisonnablement penser que la crise s’étend bien au-delà de l’art. Toutefois, l’art possède un éclairage puissant, car il illustre, littéralement, plusieurs problèmes notamment au niveau du jugement et de la raison. Faute de repères, le monde contemporain manquerait-il de discernement ? Cette question est tout à fait légitime dans le contexte actuel où tout et n’importe quoi semblent pouvoir être élevés au rang de l’Art. Le culte que l’on voue à l’individu paraît être l’une des causes du problème. On observe qu’en régime de singularité (pour reprendre l’expression de la sociologue de l’art, Nathalie Heinich) les relations du monde de l’art sont de plus en plus conflictuelles : lorsqu’on demande à un artiste de justifier son propre travail, la rationalité devient nécessairement instrumentale ; on rend également caduc le rôle du critique et des institutions. Ce mémoire s’intéresse à analyser, dans une perspective philosophique, les différentes manifestations de la crise de l’art et ses enjeux dans le monde actuel.

The theory of reciprocity is predicated on the assumption that people are willing to reward nice or kind acts and to punish unkind ones. This assumption raises the question as to how to define kindness. In this paper we offer a new definition of kindness that we call “blame-freeness.” Put most simply, blame-freeness states that in judging whether player i has been kind or unkind to player j in a social situation, player j would have to put himself in the strategic position of player i, while retaining his preferences, and ask if he would have acted in a manner that was worse than i did under identical circumstances. If j would have acted in a more unkind manner than i acted, then we say that j does not blame i for his behavior. If, however, j would have been nicer than i was, then we say that “j blames i” for his actions (i’s actions were blameworthy). We consider this notion a natural, intuitive and empirically relevant way to explain the motives of people engaged in reciprocal behavior. After developing the conceptual framework, we then test this concept in a laboratory experiment involving tournaments and find significant support for the theory.

The MATLAB model is contained within the compressed folders (versions are available as .zip and .tgz). This model uses MERRA reanalysis data (>34 years available) to estimate the hourly aggregated wind power generation for a predefined (fixed) distribution of wind farms. A ready made example is included for the wind farm distribution of Great Britain, April 2014 ("CF.dat"). This consists of an hourly time series of GB-total capacity factor spanning the period 1980-2013 inclusive. Given the global nature of reanalysis data, the model can be applied to any specified distribution of wind farms in any region of the world. Users are, however, strongly advised to bear in mind the limitations of reanalysis data when using this model/data. This is discussed in our paper: Cannon, Brayshaw, Methven, Coker, Lenaghan. O trabalho buscou identificar e avaliar a escolha do Imip à luz da teoria neoinstitucional, mediante os mecanismos isomórficos que caracterizam o campo das organizações de saúde. Trata-se de um estudo de caso, tendo o Imip como objeto de análise, voltado especificamente para dois modelos de informatização da operação e da gestão, a fim de verificar qual o mais adequado para as especificidades da instituição, incluindo o aspecto financeiro, custo/benefício. O primeiro modelo se refere a um sistema próprio de informatização; o segundo a um modelo de sistema de gestão já existente, comercializado por empresa especializada nesta tecnologia. A metodologia abrangeu pesquisas bibliográficas, documentais e de campo. O referencial teórico foi a teoria neoinstitucional e o trabalho de campo constou de uma pesquisa incluindo observação simples, visando compor variáveis dos dois modelos avaliados, e coleta de dados realizada por meio da aplicação de dois questionários: um questionário aberto, com os dirigentes do Imip, e um questionário misto, com cem colaboradores, utilizadores do sistema, escolhidos aleatoriamente, por sorteio. Entre os achados se identificou claras referências ao isomorfismo, principalmente o mimético, nas percepções dos indivíduos respondentes. Ao final da pesquisa, foi possível concluir que a contratação de um sistema de gestão hospitalar, já existente no mercado, concebido e comercializado por empresa de tecnologia especializada no segmento da saúde, justificou-se como a melhor escolha para a organização, pois, as semelhanças existentes entre os processos do Instituto e aqueles contidos no sistema eram muito mais relevantes que suas particularidades. Outro fator relevante levou em consideração os elevados custos para uma única instituição desenvolver e manter sozinha um sistema atualizado segundo as exigências normativas e técnicas necessárias às organizações de saúde e os padrões de qualidade da informação estabelecidos pelo SUS.
