Durante los años 2008-2010 en la Universidad Cardenal Herrera-Ceu de Valencia, se desarrollo el Proyecto SML House para participar el Concurso Internacional Solar Decathlon, que junto 19 universidades de todo el mundo pretende fomentar el diseño y construcción de viviendas autosuficientes, que utilicen solo energía procedente del sol y que hagan un uso eficiente de los recursos naturales. Durante estos años, la Universidad formo un equipo multidisciplinar con alumnos y profesores de diferentes áreas de conocimiento, y definió diversas estrategias para involucrar a los alumnos ofertando formación tanto en las propias escuelas como con empresas externas a la Universidad

L’any 2011 s’ha graduat la primera promoció dels estudis d’Arquitectura de la UdG. Tot i la crisi que afecta la construcció, cada curs un bon nombre d’estudiants tria aquesta especialitat. Els responsables del grau, però, consideren que és un bon moment per donar un nou enfocament a la matèria

Over the academic year 2000-2001, the Societat Catalana d'Ordenació del Territori organised, together with other departments of Catalan public universities, a debate on the teaching of regional and urban planning within the following disciplines: environmental science, geography, architecture, engineering, economy, law and landscape management. Spatial thinking processes employed by primary school students engaged in mathematical problem solving

This thesis describes changes in the spatial thinking of Year 2 and Year 4 students who participated in a six-week long spatio-mathematical program. The main investigation, which contained quantitative and qualitative components, was designed to answer questions which were identified in a comprehensive review of pertinent literatures dealing with (a) young children's development of spatial concepts and skills, (b) how students solve problems and learn in different types of classrooms, and (c) the special roles of visual imagery, equipment, and classroom discourse in spatial problem solving. The quantitative investigation into the effects of a two-dimensional spatial program used a matched-group experimental design. Parallel forms of a specially developed spatio-mathematical group test were administered on three occasions—before, immediately after, and six to eight weeks after the spatial program. The test contained items requiring spatial thinking about two-dimensional space and other items requiring transfer to thinking about three-dimensional space. The results of the experimental group were compared with those of a ‘control’ group who were involved in number problem-solving activities. The investigation took into account gender and year at school. In addition, the effects of different classroom organisations on spatial thinking were investigated~one group worked mainly individually and the other group in small cooperative groups. The study found that improvements in scores on the delayed posttest of two-dimensional spatial thinking by students who were engaged in the spatial learning experiences were statistically significantly greater than those of the control group when pretest scores were used as covariates. Gender was the only variable to show an effect on the three-dimensional delayed posttest. The study also attempted to explain how improvements in, spatial thinking occurred. The qualitative component of the study involved students in different contexts. Students were video-taped as they worked, and much observational and interview data were obtained and analysed to develop categories which were described and inter-related in a model of children's responsiveness to spatial problem-solving experiences. The model and the details of children's thinking were related to literatures on visual imagery, selective attention, representation, and concept construction.

E-learning in the university : some constructionist perspectives

School-based materials for critical reading in English

This research aims to examine Thai students' critical thinking ability in reading English by using materials developed by a research team using a collaborative action research methodology. Initially, a survey of self-percpetions of Thai secondary students on their critical thinking ability was conducted. Then, two Thai teachers were interviewed about their materials and methodology in teaching students to read critically. Lastly, a literature of critical literacy was reviewed to introduce the notions to Thai teachers and Thai students.

Fostering meaningful learning by using word problems in post-secondary mathematics

This research is a case study of action research investigating the effects of using word problems with Chinese Malaysian post-secondary students studying mathematics as an enabling science. A variety of word problems, a discussion method, reflective and peer learning, specific values in mathematics, and relevant socio-cultural and language issues were explored.

From play to poetics

An expedient approach towards organizing ideas and drafting at the sentence-level, play with phrase structures in the Vygotskyan tradition demonstrates the often unexploited possibilities afforded to composition students through creative experiential learning; circumvents prescriptive pedagogies; and makes explicit a student's tacit awareness of standard grammars and more valued rhetorical conventions.

The role of practical activities in primary school science

The roles, patterns of use and emphases of practical activities depend fundamentally on teachers' backgrounds and beliefs. Students' intense engagement with real objects was found to encourage exploration and enjoyment, and support recall. The study also identified the variety and value of science conducted outside the normal classroom.

Secondary students

Results indicated: Literacy programs provided optimal learning environments for access, participation and outcomes, reconnecting marginalised students to education; students were able to determine their preferred reading methods and educational pathways; students could negotiate work requirements, learned to be optimistic through creative pedagogies and built solid relationships through improved social skills.

Optimal models for the provision of postgraduate programmes in TESOL for tertiary teachers of English in a developing country

Investigates the major theoretical and practical issues related to distance education and English language teacher retraining. Suggests a number of models for the provision of Australian postgraduate programmes in TESOL for the upgrading of the teaching qualifications of Vietnamese tertiary teachers of English.

Tertiary education for social justice in an age of uncertainty

This thesis is concerned with tertiary teachers in a range of disciplines who focus on social justice. It found that current conditions of tertiary education are challenging for teachers and suggested that a "capabilities" approach can provide the basis for attending to professional and ethical issues for tertiary teachers.

Discovering a history : the school of art at the University of Denver

Discovering a History: The School of Art at the University of Denver explores the early history of art education in Denver, and the significance of visual art education at the University of Denver within that history beginning in 1865, when the first classes in art were offered, and ending in 1929 when the University acquired the Chappell School of Art—an independent art school—and appointed Vance Kirkland as director. This paper also explores competing art institutions, which at times posed great hindrances to the University. Further, it illustrates how the artists who taught at the University of Denver School of Art, such as Ida De Steiguer, Preston Powers, Emma Richardson Cherry, and Henry Read, were amongst the great contributors to Denver’s burgeoning artistic culture.
