This paper is a Bachelor's degree thesis considering the network model of internationalization. The paper is presented in the program of Industrial Management and International Marketing at Lappeenranta University of Technology. Globalization has increased the importance of internationalization process in which firms create business in networks. The internationalization of firms and establishment of business networks are known to be interconnected. For example, networks may help a firm to penetrate into new markets. The objective in this thesis is to make a literature study to clarify what is meant by the network model of internationalization in academic discussion. How business networks are related to firm's internationalization, what are the reasons why the model was born and how the network theory differs from the earlier theory? Furthermore, we would like to know what are the possible advantages and disadvantages of internationalizing via networks for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Muotikaupan kansainvälistymisen motiivien vaikutusta operaatiomuodon valintaan on aikaisemmin tutkittu niukasti. Tutkijoiden painopiste on ollut lähinnä kansainvälistymisen motiivien selvittämisessä ja eri operaatiomuotojen soveltuvuuden analysoimisessa. Pro gradu -tutkielman tavoitteena on esittää, miten muotikaupan kansainvälistymisen motiivit vaikuttavat operaatiomuodon valintaan suomalaisen yrityksen näkökulmasta. Teorialähtöisen kvalitatiivisen case-tutkimuksen primääriaineisto kerättiin teemahaastatteluin Venäjälle kansainvälistymistä pohtivasta yrityksestä. Tutkimustulokset todistavat muotikaupan kansainvälistymisen motiivien vaikuttavan merkittävästi operaatiomuodon valintaan, mutta motiivien ohella vaikuttavat myös muut tekijät, tärkeimpinä kontrollin tarve ja kohdemaan markkinaolosuhteet. Lisäksi keskeisenä vaikuttavana tekijänä on huomioitava valikoiman sopeutustarve kohdemarkkinoilla. Tulokset osoittavat motiivien sekä muiden tekijöiden ja operaatiomuodon valinnan välisen, kontekstisidonnaisen, kausaalisuhteen lisäksi karkealla tasolla vaikuttavien tekijöiden keskinäistä tärkeysjärjestystä ja vaikutusastetta operaatiomuodon valintaan.

At the end, we ponder upon how the concepts of innovativity can be used to inspect teachers’ activities. The studied business innovations were chosen on after considering expert statements. The key personnel in the innovation process were interviewed. The concept of innovation is inspected especially with the aid of concept analysis. The pedagogical innovativity study based on the view of education specialists in quantitative and the data was collected with a questionnaire created on the basis of previous research and literature. Different research methods were used in the studies, thus mixed methods were used for the whole of the doctoral thesis. The starting point for the whole, grounded theory, has to be understood here as a research strategy as well as a research method and data analysis method. The results show that innovativity is creativity that demands versatile learning and has positive eff ects on the process or event in practice. The results also show that in successful innovation businesses cooperative learning is something that has been found instead of searched. Cooperative learning can be seen as characteristic for innovation businesses. The five stage division of cooperative learning creates a useful method of analysing learning in innovation businesses. Innovativity connected to cooperative learning seems to make the creation of innovations possible. In addition to this, the results also show that a teacher’s innovativity is connected to reforms and an attitude that embraces them. Versatile learning in the individual and community is a prerequisite for innovativity. It is important that the teacher has a continuous will to renew teaching methods and combine work and teaching methods. The basic requirements are pedagogical vocational profi ciency and resourcefulness in everyday work.

The objective of this master’s thesis was to examine the role of preannouncing in innovation launch strategy. Preannouncing was studied from three different angles that were preannouncement usage, preannouncement timing and preannouncement goals and from two different perspectives that were the firm’s internal strategy and the external circumstances. The firm’s internal strategy encompassed the product strategy the firm had chosen. The external circumstances consisted of the industry, the nature of competition and the nature of market. Additionally, the product’s performance in the short term was studied in order to be able to speak out whether it is advantageous to preannounce. The empirical study was conducted as a partial replication study. The data for the empirical part was collected with a wide mailing and Internet enquiry in October 2008 – June 2009. Sample (N = 713) consisted of Finnish firms representing different industries and innovation activities. The data collection produced 272 answers and thus, the final response rate of the study was 38.15 %. The data was analyzed by using Microsoft Excel and statistical analysis program SAS Enterprise Guide. As a conclusion, the major results indicate that even if the firms use preannouncing quite often (54.8 % of the respondents), preannouncing behavior cannot be explained by industry. However, out of other external circumstances, the customer related turbulence affects on preannouncing usage. It was also revealed that the product type has an effect on preannouncing behavior. Additionally, preannouncement timing was noticed to differ according to audiences (distributors and end users).

The Fed model is a widely used market valuation model. It is often used only on market analysis of the S&P 500 index as a shorthand measure for the attractiveness of equity, and as a timing device for allocating funds between equity and bonds. The Fed model assumes a fixed relationship between bond yield and earnings yield. This relationship is often assumed to be true in market valuation. In this paper we test the Fed model from historical perspective on the European markets. The markets of the United States are also includedfor comparison. The purpose of the tests is to determine if the Fed model and the underlying assumptions come true on different markets. The various tests are made on time-series data ranging from the year 1973 to the end of the year 2008. The statistical methods used are regressions analysis, cointegration analysis and Granger causality. The empirical results do not give strong support for the Fed model. The underlying relationships assumed by the Fed model are statistically not valid in most of the markets examined and therefore the model is not valid in valuation purposes generally. The results vary between the different markets which gives reason to suspect the general use of the Fed model in different market conditions and in different markets.

The purpose of this thesis was to determine, what kind of service offering the case company should provide to its customers in the Australian market. For this, a model for analysing the competitive environment was developed. In the model, three players were considered: customers, competitors and the case company. Benchmarking was used in identifying competitors’ offerings currently available in the market. Experts inside the case company were consulted for determining the customer need. The competitors’ offerings were analysed on the basis of Pekkarinen et al.’s (2009) framework, dividing the offerings to services supporting the supplier’s product (SSP), supporting the client (SSC), supporting the client’s network (SSN), supporting mutual actions (SSM) and benefit and risk sharing elements. After this, they were compared to the competitive environment in order to identify areas where the case company can differentiate itself from its competitors in the Australian market. On the basis of the company’s key success factors, and the Finnish service concept currently in use, some additional offerings were suggested for the case company in order to further outperform its competitors in the market. Finally, on the basis of the suggested offerings and competitors’ offerings, a service concept was suggested for the case company to introduce in the Australian market.
