This study aims at discussing aspects related to learner corpora and linguistic features found in texts written by English learners based on the use of collocations in text production. For this research, we analyzed collocations with the verb to have and with the nouns prejudice and regret.

In the area of Phonetics, current studies are mainly geared toward acoustic analysis of the speech. The technology of personal computers and available software made these analyses easier to be carried out. The following work used the software called PRAAT. Besides showing how it helps the researcher, the aim of this work is to bring new data for future consultation in this field, allowing comparisons and discussions about this subject. At FONAC, a place where a Project of Departmental Traineeship is run, coordinated by Prof. Dr. Luiz Carlos Cagliari and aimed at training on Acoustic Phonetics for undergraduates and graduates, there is a good quality recording, in which a speaker of the paulista dialect reads an excerpt of Michael Ende and Annegert Fuchshubers book named The Dream-eater twice. The data obtained through it were analyzed directly or by statistic procedures. Tables and charts, created from these data, helped to visualize the similarities and differences between the vowels allowing an easier comprehension of the articulatory phenomenon. With the formants, specifically, prototypical values for the vowels of Portuguese and the dialect in study were obtained

This paper aims at discussing the relevance of student-teachers motivational variants in an English as a Foreign Language Teacher Education course whose syllabus proposes, since the beginning of the program, the development of students proficiency in the target language aligned to EFL teacher education theories. In addition, this study also intends to comprehend how this course structure has been developed, verifying how prospective teachers react towards its proposal. Results indicated relevant aspects related to motivation, since from all participants, many declared their interest in following the teaching career while others revealed interest in developing their English language skills, which indicates that both needs and expectations of these groups seemed to be attained, favoring their motivation to language learning and teaching.

This research aims at studying the use of greeting cards, here understood as a literacy practice widely used in American society of the United States. In American culture, these cards become sources of information and memory about peoples cycles of life, their experiences and their bonds of sociability enabled by means of the senses that the image and the word comprise. The main purpose of this work is to describe how this literacy practice occurs in American society. Theoretically, this research is based on studies of literacy (BARTON, HAMILTON, 1998; BAYHAM, 1995; HAMILTON, 2000; STREET, 1981, 1984, 1985, 1993, 2003), the contributions of social semiotics, associated with systemic-functional grammar (HALLIDAY; HASAN 1978, 1985, HALLIDAY, 1994, HALLIDAY; MATTHIESSEN, 2004), and the grammar of visual design (KRESS; LEITE-GARCIA, VAN LEEUWEN, 1997, 2004, 2006; KRESS; MATTHIESSEN, 2004). Methodologically, it is a study that falls within the qualitative paradigm of interpretative character, which adopts ethnographic tools in data generation. From this perspective, it makes use of looking and asking techniques (ERICKSON, 1986, p. 119), complemented by the technique of "registering", proposed by Paz (2008). The corpus comprises 104 printed cards, provided by users of this cultural artifact, from which we selected 24, and 11 e-cards, extracted from the internet, as well as verbalizations obtained by applying a questionnaire prepared with open questions asked in order to gather information about the perceptions and actions of these cards users with respect to this literacy practice. Data analysis reveals cultural, economic and social aspects of this practice and the belief that literacy practice of using printed greeting cards, despite the existence of virtual alternatives, is still very fruitful in American society. The study also allows users to comprehend that the cardholders position themselves and construct identities that are expressed in verbal and visual interaction in order to achieve the desired effect. As a result, it is understood that greeting cards are not unintentional, but loaded with ideology and power relations, among other aspects that are constitutive of them.

As tecnologias da informao e comunicao desempenham um papel cada vez mais importante na vida em sociedade, no sentido em que todas as reas e profisses fazem uso de recursos digitais. A escola no pode ficar arredada desta realidade, por ter como objetivo criar sujeitos plenos e integrados na sociedade atual. Os softwares educativos podem ser utilizados desde muito cedo na educao das crianas, mas devem s-lo criteriosamente e com monitorizao. O presente artigo pretende dar a conhecer os resultados da utilizao de softwares educativos em contexto de sensibilizao língua inglesa com crianas da Educao Pr-Escolar, no jardim-de-infncia Centro Padres Redentoristas O Raposinho, em Castelo Branco, num grupo de 21 crianas com 5 anos. A sensibilizao precoce para língua estrangeira, como o ingls pode ser comeada com recursos digitais multimdia e softwares diversos, disponveis no mercado. No entanto, o pequeno estudo de caso descrito revela algumas resistncias de pais e educadoras, na preparao destes para escolher e monitorizar a utilizao das TIC pelas crianas, para alm de evidenciar tambm o prprio interesse das crianas envolvidas e a sua aprendizagem de algumas palavras em língua inglesa em contextos diferenciados dos trabalhados diariamente. O estudo abre perspetivas sobre as necessidades de monitorizao atenta de utilizaes semelhantes e de formao das educadoras na rea da utilizao de recursos para sensibilizao multilingue na Educao Pr-Escolar.

Neste artigo avaliado e comparado o desempenho de fundos de aces pertencentes ao mercado Português, que investem quer no mercado local quer no mercado Europeu, utilizando modelos de avaliao do desempenho condicionais e no condicionais. Em vez das habituais variveis locais, este estudo utiliza variveis de informao pblica europeias e analisa detalhadamente o impacto nas estimativas do desempenho da utilizao de variveis condicionais sujeitas a um processo estocstico de remoo da tendncia (detrended), de modo a evitar os efeitos decorrentes de potenciais regresses esprias. Os resultados sugerem que os gestores dos fundos no so capazes de bater o mercado, apresentando desempenhos negativos ou neutros. Para alm disso, possvel observar um efeito distncia, na medida em que os gestores que investem no mercado local apresentam um desempenho superior ao dos que investem no mercado Europeu. A introduo da condicionalidade melhora quer as estimativas de desempenho quer o poder explicativo dos modelos, com evidncia de betas (mas no de alfas) variveis ao longo do tempo. No entanto, a utilizao de variveis detrended permite concluir que a significncia estatstica das variveis de informao se deve existncia de regresses esprias.
