In AlGaAs/InGaAs/GaAs PM-HEMT structures, the characterization of deep centers, the degradation in electrical and optical properties and their effects on electrical performance of the PM-HEMTs have been investigated by DLTS, SIMS, PL and conventional van der Pauw techniques. The experimental results confirm that the deep level centers correlate strongly with the oxygen content in the AlGaAs layer, the PL response of PM-HEMTs, and the electrical performance of the PM-HEMTs. Hydrogen plasma treatment was used to passivate/annihilate these centers, and the effects of hydrogenation were examined.

In this study, conventional TiO2 powder was heated in hydrogen (H-2) gas at a high temperature as pretreatment. The photoactivity of the treated TiO2 samples was evaluated in the photodegradation of sulfosalicylic acid (SSA) in aqueous suspension. The experimental results demonstrated that the photodegradation rates of SSA were significantly enhanced by using the H-2-treated TiO2 catalysts and an optimum temperature for the H-2 treatment was found to be of 500-600 degreesC. The in situ electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) signal intensity of oxygen vacancies (OV) and trivalent titanium (Ti3+) associated with the photocatalytic activity was studied. The results proved the presence of OV and Ti3+ in the lattice of the H2-treated TiO2 and indicated that both were contributed to the enhancement of photocatalytic activity. Moreover, the experimental results presented that the EPR signal intensity of OV and Ti3+ in the H-2-treated TiO2 samples after 10 months storage was still significant higher than that in the untreated TiO2 catalyst. The experiment also demonstrated that the significant enhancement occurred in the photodegradation of phenol using the H-2-treated TiO2. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Up to now, in most of the research work done on the effect of hydrogen on a Schottky barrier, the hydrogen was introduced into the semiconductor before metal deposition. This letter reports that hydrogen can be effectively introduced into the Schottky barriers (SBs) of Au/n-GaAs and Ti/n-GaAs by plasma hydrogen treatment (PHT) after metal deposition on [100] oriented n-GaAs substrates. The Schottky barrier height (SBH) of a SB containing hydrogen shows the zero/reverse bias annealing (ZBA/RBA) effect. ZBA makes the SBH decrease and RBA makes it increase. The variations in the SBHs are reversible. In order to obtain obvious ZBA/RBA effects, selection of the temperature for plasma hydrogen treatment is important, and it is indicated that 100-degrees-C for Au/n-GaAs and 150-degrees-C for Ti/n-GaAs are suitable temperatures. It is concluded from the analysis of experimental results that only the hydrogen located at or near the metal-semiconductor interface, rather than the hydrogen in the bulk of either the semiconductor or the metal, is responsible for the ZBA/RBA effect on SBH.

A novel method of purification for single-walled carbon nanotubes, prepared by an arc-discharge method, is described. The method involves a combination of acid washing followed by high temperature hydrogen treatment to remove the metal nanoparticles and amorphous carbon present in the as-synthesized single-walled carbon nanotubes. The purified single-walled carbon nanotubes have been characterised by low-angle X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, thermo-gravimetric analysis and Raman spectroscopy.

Correlations between Si nanocrystal (nc-Si) related photoluminescence (PL), Er3+ emission and nonradiative defects in the Er-doped SiO2 films containing nc-Si (SRSO) are studied. Upon 514.5 nm laser excitation the erbium-doped SRSO samples exhibit PL peaks at around 0.8 and 1.54 mum, which can be assigned to the electron-hole recombination in nc-Si and the intra-4f transition in Er3+, respectively. With increasing Er3+ content in the films, Er3+ emission becomes intense while the PL at 0.8 mum decreases, suggesting a strong coupling of nc-Si and Er 31 ions. Hydrogen plasma treatment for the samples improve the PL intensities of the 0.8 and 1.54 mum bands, indicating H passivation for the nonradiative defects existing in the samples. Further-more, from the effect of hydrogen treatment for the samples, we observe variation of the number of nonradiative defects with annealing temperatures. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. Con-elation between nc-Si, Er3+ and nonradiative defects in Er-doped nc-Si/SiO2 films is studied. Upon the 514.5 run laser excitation, the samples exhibit a nanocrystal-related spectrum centered at around 750 nm and an Er3+ luminescence line at 1.54mum. With increasing Er3+ content in the films, the Er3+ emission becomes intense while the photoluminescence at 750 nm decreases. Hydrogen passivation of the samples is shown to result in increases of the two luminescence peaks. However, the effect of hydrogen treatment is different for the samples annealed at different temperatures. The experimental results show that the coupling between Er3+, nc-Si and noradiative centers has a great influence on photoluminescence from nc-Si/SiO2 < Er > films.

We present a novel method for preparing an ultra-uniform Raney-Ni catalyst, which includes melt-quenching, hydrogen treatment and leaching in an alkali solution. The resultant catalyst shows superior activity in the reaction of cyclohexanone hydrogenation. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and XPS have been employed to characterize the catalysts. As demonstrated, the pretreatment with hydrogen caused a distinct phase transfer of the Ni-Al alloys, forming more of the Ni2Al3 component. In the subsequent leaching process, the Ni2Al3 component shows high activity and the resultant catalyst exhibits high surface areas and small pores. Moreover, metallic Al in the hydrogen-pretreated alloy appeared to be leached more easily and thus the aluminium species remaining on the catalyst surface is aluminium oxide predominantly, which serves as a matrix to stabilize active Ni species on the surface. The effects of oxygen-hydrogen pretreatments of nanosilver catalysts in cycle mode on the structure and particle size of silver particles, and subsequently the activity of the catalyst toward CO oxidation (or CO selective oxidation in the presence of H-2) are reported in this paper. Ag/SiO2 catalyst with silver particle sizes of ca. 6 similar to 8 nm shows relatively high activity in the present reaction system. The adopting of a cycle of oxidation/reduction pretreatment has a marked influence on the activity of the catalyst. Oxygen pretreatment at 500 degrees C results in the formation of subsurface oxygen and activates the catalyst. As evidenced by in-situ XRD and TEM, the following H-2 treatment at low temperatures (100 similar to 300 degrees C) causes surface faceting and redispersing of the silver particles without destroying the subsurface oxygen species. The subsequent in-situ FTIR and catalytic reaction results show that CO oxidation occurs at -75 degrees C and complete CO conversion can be obtained at 40 degrees C over such a nanosilver catalyst pretreated with oxygen at 500 degrees C followed by H-2 at 100 degrees C. However, prolonged hydrogen treatment at high temperatures (> 300 degrees C) after oxygen pretreatment at 500 degrees C induces the aggregation of silver particles and also depletes so much subsurface oxygen species that the pathway of CO oxidation by the subsurface oxygen species is inhibited. Meanwhile, the ability of the catalyst to adsorb reactants is greatly depressed, resulting in a 20 similar to 30% decrease in the activity toward CO oxidation. However, the activity of the catalyst pretreated with oxygen at 500 degrees C followed by hydrogen treatment at high temperatures (> 300 degrees C) is still higher than that directly pretreated with H,. This kind of catalytic behavior of silver catalyst is associated with physical changes in the silver crystallites because of surface restructuring and crystallite redispersion during the course of oxygen-hydrogen pretreatment steps.

The perturbation treatment previously given is extended to explain the process of hydrogen abstraction from the various hydrogen donor molecules by the triplet nπ* state of ketones or the ground state of the alkyl or alkoxy radical. The results suggest that, as the ionization energy of the donor bonds is decreased, the reaction is accelerated and it is not influenced by the bond strength of the donor bonds. The activation barrier in such reactions arises from a weakening of the charge resonance term as the ionization energy of the donor bond increases.

The change in energy during hydrogen abstraction by ketones is estimated for different electronic states as a function of the intermolecular orbital overlap employing perturbation theory. The results suggest that ketones preferentially undergo the in-plane reaction and abstract a hydrogen atom in their triplet nπ* state. For ketones where the triplet ππ* state lies below the triplet nπ* state, hydrogen abstraction can take place in the ππ* state owing to the crossing of the zero order reaction surfaces of the nπ* and ππ* states.

During a two years research hydrogen peroxide efficacy evaluated for Persian sturgeon, Chinese carps and common carp eggs. These series of the experiments conducted in various conditions different concentration of hydrogen peroxide include 250, 500, 750, 1,000 1,500 2,000 3,000 and 9,000 PPM used as ten and fifteen minutes baths, compared with Malachite green and natural control . In the next phase effect of Levaemisole hydrochloride as an immunostimulator which applied as 5 mg/I in twenty minutes baths from day sixth after hatch evaluated by daily mortality rate and leukocytes counts. The results shown that according fertilization percent and temperature condition hydrogen peroxide at 1,000 and 1,500 PPM concentrations is a effective antifungal agent during incubation periods of Persian sturgeon and even sometimes increasing hatching rates significantly comparing with natural controls and Malachite green. In Chinese carps although hydrogen peroxide controls water molds but it is not recommended in high temperatures because it make shortened incubation time and mold infections will decrease. Also the results shown 750 PPM concentration of hydrogen peroxide in common carp eggs controls water moulds infections and increase hatching rate significantly comparing with Malachite green and natural control. Daily mortality rates accessing of Persian sturgeon fries show that 20 minutes baths of 5mg/1 levamisole hydrochloride decreases daily mortality rate during yolk sac absorption. Nitrogenous compounds: nitrate and ammonium differ significantly between treated tanks with control. Blood leucocytes concentrations as an immune index was different significantly in treated fishes by levamisole hydrochloride comparing with controls. In Chinese carps because yolks sac absorption time is short there is not necessary to use the levamisole hydrochloride. Although treated larvae were more active than controls. As a result our suggestions is to use hydrogen peroxide in Persian sturgeon and common carp artificial propagation and also suggest the use levamisole hydrochloride for Persian sturgeon beside management method in stress and pollution condition

Ozone due to having low half-life and devoid of environmental harmful effects is recognized as one of the most effective disinfectant and fungicide in aquaculture. The objective of this study is to consider the effects of periodicay ozonation, hydrogen peroxide treatment, and physical treatment capability in hatching rate enhancement. Three concentrations of 0.05, 0.1 and 0.15 ppm ozone (10 min) and peroxide hydrogen with dose of 500 and 1000 ppm in two procedures accompanied with physical treatment and without physical treatment were examined on hatching rate. In the first year, Egg ozonation (0.1 ppm) with physical treatment have been resulted the greatest hatching rate (81.4%). In the second year, egg treatment with 1000 ppm hydrogen peroxide with physical treatment have been showed the greatest hatching rate (78%). Average hatching rate for the blank control treatment (without disinfectin and physical treatment) was 32.7%. From the economic viewpoint, 0.05 ppm ozone with physical treatment, due to considerable minimizing at consumption energy and ozonation system retention costs, indicated as the best treatment than other ozone treatments for fungal control. Very low correlation (r=-0.14) have been observed between hatchery water temperature and fungal infection percentage in control treatment.
