Multiple Desmoid Tumors In A Patient With Gardner's Syndrome - Report Of A Case.

Desmoid tumor (DT) is a common manifestation of Gardner's Syndrome (GS), although it is a rare condition in the general population. DT in patients with GS is usually located in the abdominal wall and/or intra-abdominal cavity. We report a case of a 32 years-old female patient with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), who was already submitted to total colectomy and developed multiple DT, located in the abdominal wall and in the left breast. The patient underwent several surgical procedures, with a multidisciplinary team of surgeons. Wide surgical resections of the left breast and the abdominal wall tumors were performed in separate steps. Polypropylene mesh reconstruction and muscle flaps were needed to cover the defects of the thoracic and abdominal walls. After partial necrosis of the adipose-cutaneous flap in the abdomen that required a new skin graft, she had a satisfactory outcome with complete healing of the surgical incisions. DT is frequent in GS, however, breast localization is very rare, with few cases reported in the literature. Recurrence of DT is not negligible, even after a wide surgical resection. GS patients must be followed up closely, and clinical examination, associated with imaging studies, should be performed to detect any signs of tumor. DT represents one of the most significant causes of the morbidity and mortality that affects FAP patients following colectomy. In general, the surgical procedures to excise DT are highly complex, requiring a multidisciplinary team.

Osteomas exofíticos múltiplos de ossos craniofaciais não associados à Síndrome de Gardner: relato de caso

Osteomas exofíticos são protuberâncias de osso maduro que necessitam ser cuidadosamente diferenciados de outras lesões. Os autores apresentam relato de paciente do sexo masculino, com 44 anos de idade, apresentando osteomas exofíticos múltiplos localizados na região vestíbulo-maxilar em ambos os lados, região de pré-molares e molares não associados à Síndrome de Gardner.

In vitro growth and leaf anatomy of Cattleya walkeriana (Gardner, 1839) grown in natural ventilation system

Natural ventilation system facilitates gaseous exchanges in in vitro plants promoting changes in the leaf tissue, which can be evaluated through the leaf anatomy, and it allows a cultivation closer to the photoautrophic micropropagation. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects on in vitro growth and on the leaf anatomy of Cattleya walkeriana grown in natural and conventional ventilation system with different concentrations of sucrose (0; 15; 30 and 45 L-1) combined with different cultivation systems (conventional micropropagation and natural ventilation system). The culture medium was composed of MS salts, solidified with 7 g L-1 of agar and pH adjusted to 5.8. Forty milliliters of culture medium were distributed in 250 mL flasks, autoclaved at 120 ºC for 20 minutes. The greater plant growth, as well as the greater thickness of the mesophyll was observed with the use of 20 g L-1 sucrose in natural ventilation system. Plants grown in natural ventilation system showed a thicker leaf mesophyll, which is directly related to photoautotrophic crops. The natural ventilation system induced more elliptical stomata and probably more functional formats.

Case Number 91-151 Craig Gardner, an inmate in the Iowa prison system, was the subject of a force move by correctional officers while incarcerated at the Iowa State Penitentiary (ISP). This action involved the use of a chemical agent. This investigation began as a review of the use of a chemical agent in a forced cell move on June 30, 1991.

Ultrastructural study of the pit connections of Gelidiocolax Gardner (parasitic Rhodophyta)

A report on the ultrastructural observations of the pit connections in three species of Gelidiocolax (G. margarifoides (Martin and Pocock) Fan and Papenfus, G. christianae Feldmann and G. deformans Seoane-Carnba) has been carried out. As has been described in other species, electrondense elements and myelinic figures, possibly formed by the endoplasmic reticulum, were condensed in a mass. This mass became a diabolos-shaped structure before the cytoplasm had finished its division and the septum had reached its complete development. Myelinic figures were usually found in the core of well formed pit plugs, but such figures were apparently substituted by granular material during the ontogeny. ¿Cómo desarrollar la memoria en personas mayores desde la Teoría de las Inteligencias Múltiples de H. Gardner?

La falta de memoria suele ser una de las principales quejas de nuestros mayores. Tradicionalmente se han venido desarrollando distintos programas para mejorarla o mantenerla. En este artículo les presentamos una forma de abordar ese problema. Nuestro deseo es compartir nuestra experiencia. Les presentamos una unidad de programación desarrollada en el marco del Taller: Apuesta por tu Memoria que organiza el Ayuntamiento de Lleida, para los mayores de diferentes casales de la ciudad. La fundamentación teórica en la que enmarcamos nuestra intervención parte de la teoría de las inteligencias múltiples de Howard Gardner y del enfoque de las teorías del procesamiento de la información.

Morfologia de frutos, sementes, plântulas e mudas de Senna multijuga var. lindleyana (Gardner) H. S. Irwin & Barneby - Leguminosae Caesalpinioideae

Os objetivos deste trabalho foram descrever e ilustrar os aspectos morfológicos externos e internos de frutos e sementes e os aspectos externos de plântulas e mudas de Senna multijuga. O trabalho foi realizado em laboratório e viveiro florestal. A espécie apresentou características importantes que podem auxiliar na sua identificação, tanto em laboratórios para análise da qualidade fisiológica e em viveiros de produção de mudas, quanto em estudos da ecologia da espécie, sob o aspecto da regeneração natural. Características dos frutos, principalmente a deiscência, forma, coloração e textura do pericarpo, comuns na subfamília; de sementes como presença de pleurograma fechado, aréola e endosperma; de plântulas e mudas como aspectos da superfície do caulículo, forma e persistência dos cotilédones, filotaxia, presença de pêlos e glândulas e forma dos protófilos constituíram-se nos principais elementos para identificação da espécie.

Developmental norms for the Gardner Steadiness Test and the Purdue Pegboard: a study with children of a metropolitan school in Brazil

Norms for the Gardner Steadiness Test and the Purdue Pegboard were developed for the neuropsychological assessment of children in the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro. A computer-generated unbiased sample of 346 children with a mean age of 9.4 years (SD = 2.76), who were attending a large normal public school in this urban area, was the subject of this study. Two boys were removed from the study, one for refusing to participate and the other due to severe strabismus. Therefore, the final sample contained 344 children (173 boys and 171 girls). Sex and age of the child and hand preferred for writing, but not ethnic membership or social class, had significant effects on performance in the Gardner Steadiness Test and the Purdue Pegboard. Girls outperformed boys. Older children performed better than younger children. However, the predictive relationship between age of the child and neuropsychological performance included linear and curvilinear components. Comparison of the present results to data gathered in the United States revealed that the performance of this group of Brazilian children is equivalent to that of US children after Bonferroni's correction of the alpha level of significance. It is concluded that sex and age of the child and hand preferred for writing should be taken into account when using the normative data for the two instruments evaluated in the present study. Furthermore, the relevance of neurobehavioral antidotes for the obliteration of some of the probable neuropsychological effects of cultural deprivation in Brazilian public school children is hypothesized.

Desarrollo de un programa de inteligencias múltiples propuestas por Howard Gardner en un grupo de 8 niños de transición del jardín infantil colorines

Cada vez son más los estudios a nivel educativo, que serealizan sobre las enseñanzas “uniformes” que prevalecen en las escuelascontemporáneas, donde existen currículos básicos que constituyen unconjunto de hechos que todos deben conocer pero muy pocas alternativaselectivas.

Inteligencias múltiples : Howard Gardner en el Colegio Montserrat.

En la actualidad la educación de la infancia trata de incorporar propuestas relacionadas con el desarrollo multidimensional. Una de estas propuestas es la relativa a las inteligencias múltiples, cuyo máximo introductor es Howard Gardner. Se expone la conferencia impartida por Gardner en un congreso para padres de familia y profesores, en el que se explica las bases de las inteligencias múltiples. La teoría se apoya en que cada persona tiene unas ocho inteligencias, pero cada individuo desarrolla un perfil de inteligencia diferente.
