Microwave packaging for 10 Gb/s EML modulators - art. no. 60201O

A novel microwave packaging technique for 10Gb/s electro-absorption modulator integrated with distributed feedback laser (EML) is presented. The packaging parasitics and intrinsic parasitics are both well considered, and the packaging circuit was synthetically designed to compensate for the intrinsic parasitic of the chip. A butterfly-packaged EMI module has been successfully developed to prove that. The small-signal modulation bandwidth of the butterfly-packaged module is about 10 GHz. Optical fiber transmission experiments have shown that the module can be used for 10Gb/s optical transmission system. After transmission through 40km,. the power penalty is less than 1 dBm at a bit-error-rate of 10-12.

A 10 Gb/s Directly-Modulated 1.3 mu m InAs/GaAs Quantum-Dot Laser

We demonstrate 10 Gb/s directly-modulated 1.3 mu m InAs quantum-dot (QD) lasers grown on GaAs substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. The active region of the QD lasers consists of five-stacked InAs QD layers. Ridge-waveguide lasers with a ridge width of 4 mu m and a cavity length of 600 mu m are fabricated with standard lithography and wet etching techniques. It is found that the lasers emit at 1293 nm with a very low threshold current of 5 mA at room temperature. Furthermore, clear eye-opening patterns under 10 Gb/s modulation rate at temperatures of up to 50 degrees C are achieved by the QD lasers. The results presented here have important implications for realizing low-cost, low-power-consumption, and high-speed light sources for next-generation communication systems.

1-Gb/s zero-pole cancellation CMOS transimpedance amplifier for Gigabit Ethernet applications

A zero-pole cancellation transimpedance amplifier (TIA) has been realized in 0.35 μm RF CMOS tech nology for Gigabit Ethernet applications. The TIA exploits a zero-pole cancellation configuration to isolate the input parasitic capacitance including photodiode capacitance from bandwidth deterioration. Simulation results show that the proposed TIA has a bandwidth of 1.9 GHz and a transimpedance gain of 65 dB·Ω for 1.5 pF photodiode capaci tance, with a gain-bandwidth product of 3.4 THz·Ω. Even with 2 pF photodiode capacitance, the bandwidth exhibits a decline of only 300 MHz, confirming the mechanism of the zero-pole cancellation configuration. The input resis tance is 50 Ω, and the average input noise current spectral density is 9.7 pA/(Hz)~(1/2). Testing results shows that the eye diagram at 1 Gb/s is wide open. The chip dissipates 17 mW under a single 3.3 V supply.

1.3-μm uncooled 10 Gb/s directly modulated MQW AlGaInAs/InP laser diodes

In this paper, we report a novel 1.3-μm uncooled AlGaInAs/InP multiple quantum well (MQW) ridge waveguide laser diodes. By optimizing the design of MQW structure and facet coatings, together with the application of reversed-mesa ridge waveguide (RM-RWG) structure, polyimide planarization, and lift-off processes technology, an uncooled 1.3-μm, 10-Gb/s directly modulated MQW ridge waveguide laser diode was successfully fabricated. The threshold current and the slope efficiency were 7 mA and 0.48 mW/mA, respectively. The directly modulated bandwidths of 11 and 9.2 GHz were achieved at room temperature and 80 Celsius degrees, respectively.

10 Gb／s电吸收调制器的微波封装设计

在高速光电子器件的微波封装过程中，需要综合考虑封装寄生参数和芯片寄生参数对器件高频性能的影响。利用封装寄生参数对芯片寄生参数的补偿作用，成功实现了10Gb／s电吸收调制激光器（EML）的高频封装。通过封装前后芯片和器件的小信号频率响应测试结果对比，器件的反射参数和传输参数有所改善，3dB带宽达到10GHz；并进行了10Gb／s速率的光纤传输实验，经过40km光纤传输后通道代价不到1dBm（误码率为10^-12），满足10Gb／s长距离光纤传输系统的要求。

All-Optical Clock Recovery for 20 Gb/s Using an Amplified Feedback DFB Laser

We report all optical clock recovery based on a monolithic integrated four-section amplified feedback semiconductor laser (AFL), with the different sections integrated based on the quantum well intermixing (QWI) technique. The beat frequency of an AFL is continuously tunable in the range of 19.8-26.3 GHz with an extinction ratio above 8 dB, and the 3-dB linewidth is close to 3 MHz. All-optical clock recovery for 20 Gb/s was demonstrated experimentally using the AFL, with a time jitter of 123.9 fs. Degraded signal clock recovery was also successfully demonstrated using both the dispersion and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) degraded signals separately.

鸭瘟病毒gB蛋白N端抗原域的高效表达及其免疫特性

在分析鸭瘟病毒(Duck plague virus,DPV)gB蛋白抗原性的基础上,设计1对引物克隆gB蛋白N端抗原性较好的抗原域编码基因,克隆到表达载体pET32a中,构建了原核表达质粒pET-gB1。将pET-gB1转化到感受态大肠杆菌(Escherichia coli)BL21(DE3)中,经IPTG诱导和SDS-PAGE分析,可见约42.4kD的目的蛋白以包涵体形式表达。Western blot分析发现,表达产物与抗鸭瘟的鼠阳性血清发生特异性反应。将包涵体溶解于8mol/L的尿素中,利用His·Bind试剂盒获得纯化的蛋白,将纯化的蛋白皮下注射免疫小鼠,间接ELISA法测得抗体的效价,MTT法检测免疫小鼠的T淋巴细胞增殖反应能力。结果说明,该融合蛋白能够诱导机体产生较强的体液免疫和细胞免疫。

新版国标GB/T 6425—2008《热分析术语》的要点与主要创新点

经过两年时间的多次修改,新版国标GB/T6425—2008《热分析术语》已于2008年8月由中国标准出版社正式出版。现将该项标准的要点与主要创新点概述如下。新版国标主要变化和尚需说明之处(要点):1.热分析总定义新版国标将热分析定义为“在程序控温(和一定气氛)下,测量物质的某种物理性质与温度或时间关系的一类技术。”与原国标GB/T6425—1986的定义“在程序温度下,测量物质的物理性质与温度的关系的一类技术”相比,增添了“气氛”和“时间”因素。

Structure Sharing and Parallelization in a GB Parser

By utilizing structure sharing among its parse trees, a GB parser can increase its efficiency dramatically. Using a GB parser which has as its phrase structure recovery component an implementation of Tomita's algorithm (as described in [Tom86]), we investigate how a GB parser can preserve the structure sharing output by Tomita's algorithm. In this report, we discuss the implications of using Tomita's algorithm in GB parsing, and we give some details of the structuresharing parser currently under construction. We also discuss a method of parallelizing a GB parser, and relate it to the existing literature on parallel GB parsing. Our approach to preserving sharing within a shared-packed forest is applicable not only to GB parsing, but anytime we want to preserve structure sharing in a parse forest in the presence of features.

A Minimal GB Parser

We describe a GB parser implemented along the lines of those written by Fong [4] and Dorr [2]. The phrase structure recovery component is an implementation of Tomita's generalized LR parsing algorithm (described in [10]), with recursive control flow (similar to Fong's implementation). The major principles implemented are government, binding, bounding, trace theory, case theory, θ-theory, and barriers. The particular version of GB theory we use is that described by Haegeman [5]. The parser is minimal in the sense that it implements the major principles needed in a GB parser, and has fairly good coverage of linguistically interesting portions of the English language.

GB Non-native Species Information Portal: documenting the arrival of non-native species in Britain

Information on non-native species (NNS) is often scattered among a multitude of sources, such as regional and national databases, peer-reviewed and grey literature, unpublished research projects, institutional datasets and with taxonomic experts. Here we report on the development of a database designed for the collation of information in Britain. The project involved working with volunteer experts to populate a database of NNS (hereafter called “the species register”). Each species occupies a row within the database with information on aspects of the species’ biology such as environment (marine, freshwater, terrestrial etc.), functional type (predator, parasite etc.), habitats occupied in the invaded range (using EUNIS classification), invasion pathways, establishment status in Britain and impacts. The information is delivered through the Great Britain Non-Native Species Information Portal hosted by the Non-Native Species Secretariat. By the end of 2011 there were 1958 established NNS in Britain. There has been a dramatic increase over time in the rate of NNS arriving in Britain and those becoming established. The majority of established NNS are higher plants (1,376 species). Insects are the next most numerous group (344 species) followed by non-insect invertebrates (158 species), vertebrates (50 species), algae (24 species) and lower plants (6 species). Inventories of NNS are seen as an essential tool in the management of biological invasions. The use of such lists is diverse and far-reaching. However, the increasing number of new arrivals highlights both the dynamic nature of invasions and the importance of updating NNS inventories.

First GB records of the invasive Asian shore crab, Hemigrapsus sanguineus from Glamorgan, Wales and Kent, England.

The present contribution reports on the capture of two adult male specimens of the Asian/Japanese shore crab, Hemigrapsus sanguineus (de Haan, 1835) from Glamorgan, south Wales and Kent, southern England. These represent the first records of this species from mainland Great Britain.

'Team GB', 'Team England' or 'Team Scotland'? Media Representations of 'Britishness', 'Englishness' and 'Scottishness' in London 2012 and Glasgow 2014

Given the timing of the Scottish independence referendum in September 2014, the hosting of both the London 2012 Olympic Games and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games coincided with a period of considerable political turmoil and reflection within the United Kingdom. The extensive levels of public, political and media scrutiny of both of these major sporting events can therefore be framed within a wider consideration of the contemporary dynamics of the political union between the constituent nations of the UK, as well as the multifarious forms of national identities expressed within the various regions of the ‘nation-state’. Despite the growing influence of social media forms within contemporary society, politics and sport within the UK, the ‘traditional’ print media retain a central (although arguably diminishing) role in the dissemination of information relating to major societal, political and sporting issues to the British public. This paper will therefore critically reflect upon the nature of print media representations of ‘Britishness’, ‘Englishness’ and ‘Scottishness’ at London 2012 and Glasgow 2014 from both London-based and Scotland-based publications, drawing upon empirical data from completed and ongoing doctoral theses from the respective authors. In particular, the implications of the contrasting competitive structures of each event will be considered, given the symbolic differences between the unitary ‘Team GB’ at the London 2012 Olympics and the separated representative teams for Scotland and England at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
