Induction and quantification of secondary metabolites in mycorrhized root cultures

 The research has made significant addition to the knowledge of the role of mycorrhizas as an elicitor for the production of secondary metabolites in three plant species along with extraction techniques that have paved the way for a feasible method of continuous supply of secondary metabolites while maintaining viability.

Quantitative secondary electron imaging for work function extraction at atomic level and layer identification of graphene

Two-dimensional (2D) materials usually have a layer-dependent work function, which require fast and accurate detection for the evaluation of their device performance. A detection technique with high throughput and high spatial resolution has not yet been explored. Using a scanning electron microscope, we have developed and implemented a quantitative analytical technique which allows effective extraction of the work function of graphene. This technique uses the secondary electron contrast and has nanometre-resolved layer information. The measurement of few-layer graphene flakes shows the variation of work function between graphene layers with a precision of less than 10 meV. It is expected that this technique will prove extremely useful for researchers in a broad range of fields due to its revolutionary throughput and accuracy.

Microstructure development and solute behaviour in Fe-C and Fe-C-V alloys during strip casting and secondary processing

 Strip casting is a rapid, environment friendly technology for manufacturing thin sheets of steel directly from molten metal. Research presented in this thesis examines the effect of atomic location, cluster size and composition on internal microstructure development during strip casting. Current research potentially leads to green manufacturing of steel.

Teachers' aides training and professional learning in mainstream secondary schools

 Dianne Gibson investigated the training and professional learning needs of teachers’ aides supporting students with disabilities in mainstream secondary schools in Victoria, Australia. Using survey and focus group methods, analysis showed that teachers’ aides perceived they had participated in training and professional learning to effectively perform work-related items and student-related tasks.
