L’escriptor Armand Quintana i Panedas (Manlleu, 1921 – Vic, 2005) al llarg de la seva vida va desenvolupar una dilatada i extensa trajectòria cultural que fins ara ha estat poc estudiada. A partir de la transcripció fragmentària de l’arxiu sonor Autobiografia i missatge pòstum d’Armand Quintana i Panedas, conservat al fons Fonoteca Històrica Jaume Font de l’Arxiu Nacional de Catalunya, aquest treball analitza la trajectòria de l’autor i, entre d’altres coses, el presenta com a col·laborador actiu de la revista Inquietud (1955-1966), com a professor de català i agitador social i com a membre fundador del Cineclub de Vic, de la revista infantil i juvenil Cavall Fort i de la Delegació d’Òmnium Cultural a Osona.

On the physical realizability of highly focused electromagnetic field distributions

A method to evaluate the physical realizability of an arbitrary three-dimensional vectorial field distribution in the focal area is proposed. A parameter that measures the similarity between the designed (target) field and the physically achievable beam is provided. This analysis is carried out within the framework of the closest electromagnetic field to a given vectorial function, and the procedure is applied to two illustrative cases.

The internal wave field in Sau reservoir : Observation and modeling of a third vertical mode

Water withdrawal from Mediterranean reservoirs in summer is usually very high. Because of this, stratification is often continuous and far from the typical two-layered structure, favoring the excitation of higher vertical modes. The analysis of wind, temperature, and current data from Sau reservoir (Spain) shows that the third vertical mode of the internal seiche (baroclinic mode) dominated the internal wave field at the beginning of September 2003. We used a continuous stratification two-dimensional model to calculate the period and velocity distribution of the various modes of the internal seiche, and we calculated that the period of the third vertical mode is ;24 h, which coincides with the period of the dominating winds. As a result of the resonance between the third mode and the wind, the other oscillation modes were not excited during this period

The ESRg matrix for strong field d5 systems

This review has tried to collect and correlate all the various equations for the g matrix of strong field d5 systems obtained from different basis sets using full electron and hole formalism calculations. It has corrected mistakes found in the literature and shown how the failure to properly take in symmetry boundary conditions has produced a variety of apparently inconsistent equations in the literature. The review has reexamined the problem of spin-orbit interaction with excited t4e states and finds that the earlier reports that it is zero in octahedral symmetry is not correct. It has shown how redefining what x, y, and z are in the principal coordinate system simplifies, compared to previous methods, the analysis of experimental g values with the equations.

The performance and the characteristic field of a centrifugal compressor

Tässä työssä tarkastellaan radiaalikompressorin puristusprosessiin liittyvä peruslaskenta. Ilmankosteuden vaikutukset laskentaan huomioidaan ja kompressorin tunnuskenttä esitellään tässä työssä. Esimerkkinä lasketaan pisteitä kompressorin tunnuskentästä.

Kansallisten immateriaalioikeuksien vaikutus lääkekeksintöihin Suomessa ja Ruotsissa 1980-90-luvulla

Pro gradu- tutkielman tarkoituksena oli tutkia lääkkeiden immateriaalioikeudellisia suojamuotoja Suomen ja Ruotsin osalta. Tutkimuksessa pyrittiin selvittämään lääkkeiden kansallisen patenttisuojan, lisäsuojatodistuksen ja dokumentaatiosuojan vaikutusta lääkekeksintöihin 1980–90-luvun Suomessa ja Ruotsissa. Lääkkeiden lisäsuojatodistuksella tarkoitetaan ainoastaan lääkeaineille tarkoitettua erillistä immateriaalioikeudellista lisäsuojamuotoa, joka pidentää suoja-aikaa enimmillään viidellä vuodella. Dokumentaatiosuojalla tarkoitetaan suojamuotoa, joka suojaa lääkkeiden kehittämisessä aikaan saatuja tutkimus- ja turvallisuustuloksia rinnakkaisvalmistajilta tietyn määritellyn ajan. Suomen ja Ruotsin kansallisessa lainsäädännössä oli tarkasteluajanjaksolla olennaisia eroja. Rinnakkaisongelmana tutkittiin innovaatio- ja patenttipolitiikan merkitystä lääkekeksintöjen määrään ja laatuun. Tutkimuskysymyksiä lähestyttiin virallislähteiden ja kirjallisuuden lisäksi myös teemahaastatteluin. Haastateltavat olivat alan asiantuntijoita. Tutkimus oli haasteellinen. Oli palkitsevaa saada asiaa koskeva ”hiljainen tieto” kansiin. Suomen ja Ruotsin poliittinen ja lainsäädännöllinen ilmapiiri poikkesivat toisistaan. Suomessa vallitsi protektionistinen ilmapiiri ja se näkyi politiikassa ja vaikutti lainsäädäntöön. Menetelmäpatentista ei haluttu luopua. Menetelmäpatentti on patentti, joka käsittää ainoastaan lääkeaineen valmistusmenetelmän, eikä lopputuotetta. Suomessa sallittiin lääkeaineiden tuotepatentti vasta 1995. Toisin oli Ruotsissa; siellä poliittinen ilmapiiri ja valtion sekä lääketeollisuuden näkemykset johtivat kehitystä niin, että tuotepatenttikielto poistettiin huomattavasti aiemmin kuin Suomessa. Ruotsi oli kaukonäköisempi myös muiden suojamuotojen kohdalla. Lopputuloksena tästä seurasi se, että Ruotsin lääketeollisuus on menestynyt huomattavasti paremmin kuin Suomen. Lääkekeksintöjä tehtiin enemmän. Ruotsin lääkekeksinnöistä suuri osa oli uusia molekyylejä; Suomen vastaava osuus oli selvästi pienempi. Myös Ruotsin lääkevienti oli ja on huomattavasti suurempaa kuin Suomen.

Do Schools Discriminate Against Homosexual Parents? Evidence from an Internet Field Experiment

The recognition of homosexual rights is a controversial issue in many countries. Spain was the third country in the world (after Netherlands and Belgium) to introduce a law recognizing homosexual marriage and adoption of children. In this paper, we examine for the first time whether schools are more hesitant to give feedback to homosexual parents during children's pre-registration period in Spain. In order to do that, we designed an internet field experiment to be conducted in schools. We created three types of fictitious couples; one heterosexual, one male homosexual and one female homosexual, and send emails to schools making sexual orientation explicit. Our results show that men homosexual couples had a significant lower probability to receive and answer than heterosexual couples (22.5 percentage points less). No statistically significant differences in the response rate were found between female homosexual and heterosexual couples. This result suggests that male homosexual couples might be penalized because of the lack of a maternal figure. Keywords: Discrimination, field experiment, schools, homosexual rights. Mercado del libro y empresas editoriales entre el Centenario de Independencias y la Guerra Civil española: la editorial Sudamericana

[spa]Las estrategias comerciales de los libreros y editores españoles para desembarcar en los mercados americanos son analizadas en un contexto signado por las tendencias americanistas en el plano político y las iniciativas regeneracionistas en el económico durante el periodo que va del Centenario de las Independencias hasta la Guerra Civil española. Se abordan algunas de las políticas empresariales editoriales implementadas en Cataluña, el liderazgo ejercido por esta región como epicentro del proyecto hispano, y finalmente las condiciones que permitieron la creación de la editorial Sudamericana en Buenos Aires ante la inminencia del triunfo franquista. Los ejes de estudio son las estrategias editoriales y comerciales; el peso de las asociaciones y corporaciones patronales del libro; y los vínculos tejidos con el sector intelectual argentino en las primeras décadas del siglo XX a través de delegaciones consulares, instituciones culturales y cámaras españolas de comercio.

Regulatory framework of local citizen participation: Instruments of Direct and Participative Democracy in the Municipal Field

This article focuses on the analysis of the regulatory framework of citizen participation in the local government, which organises direct and participatory democracy at the local level, and identifies the laws and mechanisms through which the constitutional requirements for participation are accomplished. Mu nicipalities, the authority closest to citizens, are the best level of government since they directly involve civil society in the decision-making process experiencing the scope and appropriateness of the instruments by which it is channeled.

Electric field calibration method for scanning electron microscope

This paper proposes a calibration method which can be utilized for the analysis of SEM images. The field of application of the developed method is a calculation of surface potential distribution of biased silicon edgeless detector. The suggested processing of the data collected by SEM consists of several stages and takes into account different aspects affecting the SEM image. The calibration method doesn’t pretend to be precise but at the same time it gives the basics of potential distribution when the different biasing voltages applied to the detector.

Electric field distribution in silicon edgeless detector

This Master’s Thesis work reports about electric field distribution in recently developed silicon edgeless detector with a new current terminating structure. This structure enables the essential reduction of insensitive detector area as well as allows separation of the current flowing through the active area from the current flowing at the cut edge. The reliable operation of this detector is strongly needed due to the installation inside LHC. In accordance with formulated problems SEM was used as an investigation tool for collecting the data about electric field distribution.
