Where are women doing research in the field of ICTs?

A great body of literature evidencesthe low representation of women intechnology-related fields. However, fewresearch lines have analyzed the roleplayed by women in the field of researchon ICTs. The main aim of this paper isto explore the participation and position of women in a group of public andprivate institutions doing research in thefield of ICTs in Spain. After mappingall the private and public institutions doingresearch in field ofICTs in Spain,we carried out an analysis of the presence and position of women in the field ofICTs research in those institutions.Our findings show, on the one hand, ascarce representation of women in the researchareas specialized in the field ofICTs. On the other hand, we have alsoobserved that few women hold posts ofresponsibility in the research area of ICTs and have the required qualificationsto promote professionally in those research areas. We discuss all our findingsand the possible implications of our study.
