Tämän kandityön tarkoituksena on selvittää ja kehittää Lappeenrannan teknillisen yliopiston sovelletun matematiikan laitoksella luotua virtuaalimateriaalin käyttöä eri kohderyhmille sopivaksi sekä käyttäjäystävällisemmäksi. Matematiikan virtuaalimateriaali on luotu tukemaan lähiopetusta matematiikan perusopetuksessa. Matematiikan virtuaalimateriaalin hallintaympäristöä on kehitetty vuodesta 2001. Järjestelmää sekä sen opiskelumateriaalia on kehitetty opettajien ja opiskelijoiden avulla. Järjestelmä kattaa teknillisen yliopiston eri osastojen matematiikan peruskurssien materiaalit. Sen käytöllä opettajat voivat hankkia itselleen lisää aikaa opetuksen suunnitteluun materiaalin luomisen nopeutuessa, koska opetusmateriaali voidaan nopeasti kasata valmiista tehtävistä ja teoriaosioista. Opiskelijoiden kannalta hyvätasoinen oppimateriaali on jatkuvasti saatavilla ja sen avulla on myös helppo opiskella hyvien hakutoimintojen ansiosta.

Understanding how wikis are used to support collaborative learning is an important concern for researchers and teachers. Adopting a discourse analytic approach, this paper attempts to understand the teaching processes when a wiki is embedded in a science project in primary education to foster collaborative learning. Through studying interaction between the teacher and students, our findings identify ways in which the teacher prompts collaborative learning but also shed light on the difficulties for the teacher in supporting student collective collaboration. It is argued that technological wiki features supporting collaborative learning can only be realized if teacher talk and pedagogy are aligned with the characteristics of wiki collaborative work: the freedom of students to organize and participate by themselves, creating dialogic space and promoting student participation. We argue that a dialogic approach for examining interaction can be used to help to design a more effective pedagogic approach in the use of wikis in education, to shift into Web 2.0 learning paradigm and to equip learners with the competences they need to participate in knowledge co-construction.

Abstract Purpose: Several well-known managerial accounting performance measurement models rely on causal assumptions. Whilst users of the models express satisfaction and link them with improved organizational performance, academic research, of the realworld applications, shows few reliable statistical associations. This paper provides a discussion on the"problematic" of causality in a performance measurement setting. Design/methodology/approach: This is a conceptual study based on an analysis and synthesis of the literature from managerial accounting, organizational theory, strategic management and social scientific causal modelling. Findings: The analysis indicates that dynamic, complex and uncertain environments may challenge any reliance upon valid causal models. Due to cognitive limitations and judgmental biases, managers may fail to trace correct cause-and-effect understanding of the value creation in their organizations. However, even lacking this validity, causal models can support strategic learning and perform as organizational guides if they are able to mobilize managerial action. Research limitations/implications: Future research should highlight the characteristics necessary for elaboration of convincing and appealing causal models and the social process of their construction. Practical implications: Managers of organizations using causal models should be clear on the purposes of their particular models and their limitations. In particular, difficulties are observed in specifying detailed cause and effect relations and their potential for communicating and directing attention. They should therefore construct their models to suit the particular purpose envisaged. Originality/value: This paper provides an interdisciplinary and holistic view on the issue of causality in managerial accounting models.

In the last decade, an important debate has arisen about the characteristics of today"s students due to their intensive experience as users of ICT. The main belief is that frequent use of technologies in everyday life implies that competent users are able to transfer their digital skills to learning activities. However, empirical studies developed in different countries reveal similar results suggesting that the"digital native" label does not provide evidence of a better use of technology to support learning. The debate has to go beyond the characteristics of the new generation and focus on the implications of being a learner in a digitalised world. This paper is based on the hypothesis that the use of technology to support learning is not related to whether a student belongs to the Net Generation, but that it is mainly influenced by the teaching model. The study compares behaviour and preferences towards ICT use in two groups of university students: face-to-face students and online students. A questionnaire was applied to a sample of students from five universities with different characteristics (one offers online education and four offer face-to-face education with LMS teaching support). Findings suggest that although access to and use of ICT is widespread, the influence of teaching methodology is very decisive. For academic purposes, students seem to respond to the requirements of their courses, programmes, and universities. There is a clear relationship between students" perception of usefulness regarding certain ICT resources and their teachers" suggested uses of technologies. The most highly rated technologies correspond with those proposed by teachers. The study shows that the educational model (face-to-face or online) has a stronger influence on students" perception of usefulness regarding ICT support for learning than the fact of being a digital native.

Yrittäjyyden Tuki - projekti toimi osana valtakunnallista WomEqual - kehittämiskumppanuushanketta vuosina 2005-2007 tavoitteenaan tukea naisyrittäjien toimintaedellytyksiä kehittäen heille vertaisryhmätoimintaan perustuvaa tukimallia. Tässä tutkimuksessa ensisijaisena tavoitteena on selvittää, miten kyseisen projektin vertaisryhmätoimintaan osallistuneet naisyrittäjät kokivat naisyrittäjien välisen vertaistuen toimintamuotona. Pyrkimyksenä on myös ymmärtää, mitkä seikat sitouttivat naisyrittäjiä vertaisryhmätoimintaan ja mitä he kokivat oppineensa vertaisryhmätoiminnan seurauksena. Lisäksi kiinnostuksen kohteena on tarkastella, kuinka vertaistukiryhmä toimii naisyrittäjien välisen verkostoitumisen välineenä. Tutkimus on laadullinen ja aineistolähtöinen. Tutkimuksen primääriaineisto on kerätty puolistrukturoiduin teemahaastatteluilla ja sekundaariaineisto kyselytutkimuksen avulla. Tutkimustulokset osoittavat, että naisyrittäjät kokevat henkisen ja sosiaalisen tuen tärkeäksi. Toiselta naisyrittäjältä, vertaiselta, saatu tuki koettiin vertaistukiryhmän vahvuudeksi. Vertaisryhmässä oppiminen tapahtui kokemusten jakamisen kautta. Uusien verkostojen luomisessa vertaistukiryhmä ei täysin vastannut odotuksia.

Digital learner portfolios are of growing importance in higher education as the sector seeks new teaching-learning-assessment methods which promote students" autonomy as managers of their own virtual learning environment. The purpose of this study was to analyse descriptively the undergraduate students" perceptions, attitudes and behaviour when using an eportfolio to support their learning and assessment in practice based courses at two traditional Spanish universities. The participants were 88 students, who were studying through a blended learning mode. Data were collected through questionnaires: a computer experience survey, another which examined the psychological, pedagogical and technological dimensions of eportfolios use. Further, an individual overall reflection was obtained from each student to help gain an understanding of their experiences of using the eportfolio. A mixed-method analysis was applied in order to study the impact of this technological innovation on students and their satisfaction. The results showed that the students had positive opinions and self-efficiency through the eportfolio as a tool to manage their learning and assessment during a semester, especially from the second month of use. However, the expected impact on their learning was not so significant. Nevertheless, the students emphasised that the eportfolio was valuable as a personal developmental learning tool.

Skenaarioita käytetään usein ylimmän johdon strategiasuunnitteluvälineinä. Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvittää vaikuttavatko skenaariot ja skenaariotyöskentely organisaation oppimiseen laajemminkin kuin yksilötasolla ja minkälaista oppimista tapahtuu sekä minkälaisia ominaisuuksia skenaariotyötä johtavalla olisi hyvä olla. Tutkimusaineisto on kerätty haastattelemalla skenaariotöitä johtanutta henkilöä sekä niihin osallistuneita henkilöitä. Tutkittavana oli kaksi skenaariotyötä, joista toisen tavoittena oli kuvata tulevaisuuden mobiileja liiketoimintamalleja ja toisen mallintaa verkko-operaattoriliiketoiminnan tulevaisuutta. Tutkimuksen aikana selvisi, että skenaarioilla ja skenaariotyöskentelyllä voi tukea organisaation oppimista niin yksilön, ryhmän/organisaation kuin organisaatioiden väliselläkin tasolla. Skenaariotyötä tekevällä ryhmällä ja sitä johtavalla henkilöllä on vaikutusta organisaation oppimiseen. Erityisen tärkeää organisaation oppimisen kannalta on, kuinka skenaariotyöskentely aloitetaan ja lopetetaan.

The purpose of the study was to describe the experiences of received support of aging employees and their work related self-image in changing working environments. Firstly, theaim was to discover how the support from organisations and leaders was verified. Secondly, the aim was to get answers how employees experienced themselves as workers and as learners in the current work context. Thirdly, the aim was to compare different knowledge information stages and company cultures and how they have influenced the experiences of professional competence development among aging employees. In addition the education- and career backgrounds were investigated to gain more understanding of their role in experiencing support and relation to the occupational self-image. The theoretical frame of reference of this researchis multidisciplinary. The theoretical part focuses on the meaning of work for human being from a sociological, late-modern perspective. On the other hand it examines the ageing process from a physiological and also from a perspective of age discrimination and life control. The occupational selfimage and the strength of motivation has an effect on learning in working life which is crucial and firmpart individual trajectories. According to the theoretical review company culture, leadership and especially the managers' role as a creator of a learning atmosphere are increasingly critical for aging adults' learning when the role of informal work-based learning is increasing. The empirical data was collected with aquestionnaire and interviews, which were carried out in May to October 2001. The data consists of 263 respondents of which further eight persons were interviewed. All respondents were over the age of 45 and represented all levels of their organisations in an IT-technology firm and a chemical industry plant. The central findings in this research show that the aging adults have experienced that theemployers do care about the development of their occupational skills. On the other hand there are fewer concrete activities to reveal this support. There is anobvious disproportion between the expressed aims and the realisation of the activities. Signs of age discrimination are few. The style of management has becomemore supporting for self directed activities which are seen to support adults learning. Higher education and individual activity to seek possibilities to learnwere encouraging the development of occupational skills. Age itself was not a crucial aspect when comparing the experiences among younger (45-54 years) and older (55-64 years) groups. Job satisfaction and professional self esteem seemed tobe considerably strong. The individual characteristics were more important elements in developing occupational skills than the age. The degree of anxiety at work was low. In addition among the older group the strong feeling of coherence and the occupational self image were significant for supporting the professional competence. The motivation to learn was also stable. Among the seniors there was some slight evidence of declining motivation. In the IT-firm the support was experienced stronger for aging employees than in the chemical industry plant. Thosewho had experienced support in the chemical industry plant had higher educational background than the others. In IT-firm they also experienced more support from the manager than in the chemical industry plant. The results show that it is more likely that the differences are caused mostly by the stage of information intensity and the character of company culture which is determined by the activities. IT-business demands constantly accommodation to changes and the chemical industry plant which is representing more traditional business field, where the atmosphere of learning is determined by the traditions of company culture, the changes are carried out slowly.

Työn tavoitteena on luoda poikkileikkaus ongelmalähtöiseen pedagogiikkaan ja erityisesti sen käyttömahdollisuuksiin Yrityspeli-kurssin opettamisessa oppimislähtöisen opetustavan tukena. Toisena tavoitteena on kurssin pelisovelluksen dokumentointi käyttökelpoiseksi viiteteokseksi. Lopuksi työssä tutkitaan sovelluksen keskeisten parametrien ja pelistrategioiden vaikutusta kysyntään. Ongelmalähtöistä oppimista on tutkittu lähinnä kirjallisuuteen perustuen ja täydennetty tietämystä haastattelututkimuksella. Sovelluksen rakenne on havainnoitu käyttämällä sovellusta. Sovelluksen kriittisiä ominaisuuksia on saatu selville ajamalla sovellusta tarkoitusta varten valikoidulla numeerisella aineistolla. Ongelmalähtöinen pedagogiikka osoittautui soveltuvin osin hyväksi opetusmenetelmäksi Yrityspeli-kurssilla mallintamisen ja käytännön ongelmanratkaisutaitojen kehittämisessä. Kurssin pelisovellus näyttäisi toimivan luotettavasti, tosin se ei ole rakenteeltaan erityisen joustava. Sovelluksen keskeisistä parametreista hinnan vaikutus kysyntään on huomattavasti markkinointipanosta suurempi. Testien mukaan pelissä on mahdollista pärjätä niin kustannusjohtajan kuin hintadifferoijankin strategialla.

Tämän pro gradu -tutkielman tavoitteena oli esitellä ja analysoida osaami-sen johtamista sekä tuottaa käytännön suosituksia Alko Oy:n myymälöiden lähiesimiehille heidän henkilökuntansa osaamisen kehittämiseksi. Tämän lisäksi tutkimuksessa pyrittiin kerätyn aineiston avulla luomaan ymmärrys siitä, miten osaamisen johtamiset keinot vaikuttavat asiakastyytyväisyyteen. Tutkimus toteutettiin vertailevana tapaustutkimuksena ja tutkimusaineistoa kerättiin sekä kvantitatiivisella että kvalitatiivisella tutkimusmenetelmällä. Kohdeyrityksen myyjille lähetettiin kyselylomake heidän esimiestensä osaamisen johtamisen toimista, ja kyselystä saadun tiedon syventämiseksi haastateltiin kahdeksaa myymäläpäällikköä osaamisen johtamisen teemoista. Tutkimuksen perusteella pystyttiin muodostaman käsitys siitä, mistä osaa-misen johtaminen koostuu ja miten paremman ja heikomman osaamisen omaavien myymälöiden esimiesten toimet eroavat toisistaan. Vastausten perusteella saatiin myös ymmärrys niistä osa-alueista, joita kohdeyrityksen esimiesten toiminnassa pitäisi pyrkiä kehittämään. Osaamisen kehittämisen perustan muodostavat esimiehen oma esimerkki ja oppimiseen kannustava ilmapiiri. Esimies, joka onnistuu suuntaamaan henkilökuntansa oppimisen tukemaan organisaation tavoitteita, osaa henkilökohtaistaa yhtiön strategian sopimaan jokaisen toimenkuvaan. Oppimisen tukemisessa vaaditaan esimieheltä vahvaa henkilökunnan tuntemusta, tavoitteiden asettamista ja niiden toteutumisen seurantaa. Tutkimus osoitti esimiesten olevan pääsääntöisesti innostuneita työstään ja onnistuvan osaamisen suuntaamisen toimissa hyvin. Esimiehet voisivat kehittää toimintaansa ottamalla oman henkilökuntansa mukaan toiminnan suunnitteluun ja vastuuttamalla heitä myymälän toiminnan ja oman ammattitaitonsa jatkuvaan kehittämiseen.

La personnalisation et l'adaptation d'environnement multimédia pédagogique a pour but de favoriser l'intégration d'application web de formation en fonction de la personnalité de l'apprenant, de sa progression, de ses préférences et de son contexte d'application. Le contrôle de certaines de ces options doit être donné à l'enseignant afin de pouvoir suivre la progression de ses étudiants, de prescrire des activités complémentaires en ce qui est fait en classe et de gérer ses groupes. Nous avons participé au développement et à l'évaluation d'une application pour appuyer le suivi des activités et donner du soutien aux apprenants dans un environnement pédagogique disponible gratuitement en ligne pour l'apprentissage des sciences nommé ScienceEnJeu. ScienceEnJeu est un environnement où l'apprenant peut explorer différents mondes d'apprendre le contenu, comme les mathématiques, l'écologie, la physique, la génomique, etc. Notre système utilise une base de données qui se construit en fonction de conditions comme les activités des utilisateurs dans le jeu et offre la possibilité de lier les activités du jeu à des structures de concepts issues du programme du Ministère de l'éducation de loisirs et du sport (MELS). Une interface permet aux parents ou à l'enseignant de visualiser la progression dans l'environnement d'un étudiant et / ou d'un groupe, voir le modèle de l'élève de superposition sur la structure des activités et des structures de concepts. L'enseignant peut chercher une activité liée à des concepts particuliers et la définir comme une tâche pour son groupe d'étudiants selon un calendrier. Un système de soutien personnalisé fondé sur des règles y est aussi intégré. Ces règles sont des stratégies de soutien construites en fonction de différents paramètres du contexte de l'activité, des préférences de style d'apprentissage de l'élève et de l'aide précédente. De par ces règles, différents avatars animés peuvent être affichés avec des messages qui sont écrits pour soutenir la motivation des élèves selon leur personnalité d'apprenant.

En este art??culo se presenta un sistema de di??logo hablado en desarrollo llamado TRIVIAL, cuya finalidad es favorecer el aprendizaje de contenidos docentes por parte de los alumnos de la Universidad de Granada. La interacci??n entre los usuarios y el sistema se lleva a cabo mediante di??logos en lenguaje natural realizados de forma oral, por lo que el sistema se diferencia claramente de otras herramientas de apoyo a la docencia basadas en Tecnolog??as de la Informaci??n y las Comunicaciones (TICs). Creemos que el sistema puede fomentar el desarrollo del espacio innovador promovido por el Espacio Europeo de Educaci??n Superior (EEES), pues permite dar una visi??n diferente de las asignaturas, en la que el alumno es el actor principal del proceso de aprendizaje.

New Zealand is a nation of Migrants. Immigrants have played a significant role in the country’s economic growth and cultural development. With a population of four million people, New Zealand’s population is becoming increasingly culturally diverse. Almost one in five New Zealanders were born overseas, rising to one in three in its largest city, Auckland. Asians are the fastest growing ethnic group, increasing by around 140% since 1996. Indians account for 1.2% of the population (Statistics New Zealand, 2002). The Goan community in New Zealand is relatively small and its size is not formally recorded, however, anecdotally it appears to have grown to over 200 families in the Auckland area, with most arriving after 1996. For women who migrate, loneliness and isolation have been identified as the most ‘glaring’ experience and this is intensified by the loss of extended family networks when they migrate to a country where nuclear families are the norm (Leckie, 1995). The creation of new networks and maintenance of prior networks in new ways is crucial to the successful settlement and integration into a new country. This paper reports on how Goan, Indian women in Auckland, New Zealand used specific strategies to manage the adjustment to living in a new country. The findings reveal that participants used a variety of skills to settle in New Zealand such as cultivating a “can do” attitude, obtaining support and learning. These skills enabled them to move beyond their own culture and begin to take active part in New Zealand culture. However, this process was not immediate and the participants passed through a number of stages along a continuum of settlement and integration. These stages will be discussed below and situated within a body of literature.
