The treatment of domestic and industrial effluents through Wastewater Treatment Plants (WTPs) generates a residue termed sewage sludge, rich in organic matter, high-volume, occasionally containing pathogens and heavy metals. The sludge generation can minimize the benefits brought by the treatment of sewage, because this residue does not always receive appropriate treatment before final disposal. The disposal is another problem related to sludge. Landfills generally does not have physical space and alternatives such as the use in agriculture requires an intense treatment that could be in many cases operational or economic unfeasible. The objective of this work is the theoretical research about the processes of stabilization of the sludge by anaerobic digestion and the methanogenic activity during the process. Through analysis of each step and contemplating each relevant factor in anaerobic digestion process in order to optimize them, we proposed a theoretical model of reactors capable of stabilize the sludge, reduce its volume and eliminate pathogens. The obtained configuration consists of two anaerobic reactors connected in series. The first one operates in the range mesophilic temperature (35 ° C) and has higher hydraulic retention time (25 days) working primarily in the stabilization of organic matter present in the sludge and producing biogas, whereas the second one operates in the thermophilic range (55 ° C) in order to eliminate pathogens, and to reduce the volume. The hydraulic retention time in the second reactor is lower (10 days). Both mesophilic and thermophilic processes were efficient in what was proposed, promoting the stabilization of organic matter present in the sludge and significant reduction of pathogens. Introduction: It has been suggested that bone grafts combined with platelet rich plasma (PRP) present greater density than bone grafts without PRP after healing process. However, this result may depend on proportion PRP/autogenous bone (AB) graft used. Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze radiographically the influence of the proportion PRP/particulate autogenous bone (AB) graft on bone healing in surgically created criticalsize defects (CSD) in rat calvaria. Material and method: 50 rats were divided into 5 groups: C, AB, AB/PRP-50, AB/PRP-100 and AB/PRP-150. A 5 mm diameter CSD was created in the calvarium of each animal. In Group C the defect was filled by blood clot only. In Group AB the defect was filled with 0.01 mL of AB graft. In groups AB/ RP-50, AB/PRP-100 and AB/PRP-150 the defects were filled with 0.01 mL of AB graft combined with 50, 100 and 150 µL of PRP, respectively. All animals were euthanized at 30 days post-operative. Standardized radiographic images of the rat calvaria were obtained using Digora System (Soredex, Finland). The images were evaluated by three examiners using scores that indicated the percentage of radiopacity of the defect. The obtained data were subjected to statistical analysis (Kruskal-Wallis test, p < 0.05). Result: Group C presented radiopacity significantly lower than groups AB, AB/PRP-50, AB/PRP-100 and AB/PRP-150. Group AB/PRP-50 showed radiopacity significantly greater than groups AB/PRP-100 and AB. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the proportion PRP/AB graft influences bone healing in CSD in rat calvaria.

Diversos estudios consideran que las claves para el desarrollo técnico, social y económico de los países en desarrollo, y en especial en África, son la educación, la investigación y la innovación. No obstante, en el ámbito sanitario en particular, la formación e investigación en África sigue siendo escasa por diversos motivos. Por un lado, los investigadores africanos encuentran dificultades añadidas para obtener financiación frente a investigadores en países de desarrollo. Y, por otro lado, los investigadores no disponen de las herramientas y tecnologías adecuadas para acceder a información relevante para su trabajo. En este contexto, el proyecto AFRICA BUILD tiene como principal objetivo mejorar y fomentar la investigación y educación sanitaria en África a través de las nuevas tecnologías. Uno de los resultados principales de este proyecto es el AFRICA BUILD Portal (ABP), que pretende ser un punto de encuentro para los investigadores africanos, donde podrán encontrar un amplio abanico de herramientas que les permita no sólo mejorar su educación, sino compartir conocimientos con otros investigadores. Este portal, que está actualmente en desarrollo, pretende fomentar la comunicación entre instituciones africanas y les proveerá herramientas biomédicas avanzadas. En este Trabajo de Fin de Grado se han marcado como principal objetivo la mejora del sistema de e-learning que existía en el ABP. El nuevo sistema será: (i) más potente, óptimo y rico en funcionalidades, (ii) tendrá una importante base social permitiendo a los usuarios aportar información y compartir conocimiento, y (iii) será distribuido y escalable, capaz de integrar distintos gestores de contenidos didácticos como fuentes de información. Los resultados obtenidos son positivos y el nuevo sistema de aprendizaje ha mejorado la usabilidad, funcionalidad y apariencia del anterior. Para concluir, la herramienta posee aún un gran margen de mejora, pero gracias al trabajo realizado el sistema de e-learning es ahora más social, distribuido, escalable e innovador. ---ABSTRACT---Several studies find that the keys to the technical, social and economic development of developing countries, especially in Africa, are education, research and innovation. However, in the health sector in particular, training and research in Africa remains low for various reasons. On the one hand, African researchers experience additional difficulties for funding against researchers in developing countries. And on the other hand, researchers do not have the right tools and technologies to access information relevant to their work. In this context, the AFRICA BUILD project's main objective is to improve and enhance research and health education in Africa through new technologies. One of the main results of this project is the AFRICA BUILD Portal (ABP), which aims to be a meeting point for African researchers, where they can find a wide range of tools that allows them to not only improve their education but to share knowledge with other researchers. This portal, which is currently under development, aims to promote communication between African institutions and will provide advanced biomedical tools. The main objective of this Final Year Project is the improvement of the former elearning system that already existed in the ABP. The new system will be: (i) more powerful, richer in features, (ii) will have an important social base allowing users to contribute information and knowledge sharing; and (iii) will be distributed and scalable, capable of integrating different learning management systems as sources of information. The final results obtained are fairly positive and the new e-learning system has improved its usability, functionality and appearance of the former. To conclude, the tool still has much room for improvement, but thanks to the new features of the improved elearning system has become more social, distributed, scalable and innovative.

The use of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Learning Environment allows achieving the maximum interaction between Teachers and Students.The Virtual Learning Environments are computer programs that benefit the learning facilitating the communication between users. Open Source software allow to create the own online modular learning environment with a fast placed in service. In the present paper the use of a Learning Management Systems (LMS) as continuous education tool is proposed.

A otimização de sistemas do tipo Ti-Si-X requer que os sistemas binários estejam constantemente atualizados. O sistema Ti-Si foi investigado experimentalmente desde a década de 50 e poucos estudos usaram os dados experimentais para calcular o diagrama de fases Ti-Si usando modelamento termodinâmico. A otimização mais recente do sistema Ti-Si foi realizada em 1998, descrevendo a fase Ti5Si3 como um intermetálico não estequiométrico contendo três sub-redes e mostrando a presença da fase intermetálica estequiométrica Ti3Si. Dada a recente disputa sobre a cinética de precipitação e a estabilidade das fases Ti3Si e Ti5Si3 nos sistemas Ti-Si e Ti-Si-X, o canto rico em titânio do sistema Ti-Si (estável e metaestável) foi otimizado no presente trabalho. Os limites de estabilidade de fases, os valores dos erros pelo método dos mínimos quadrados do procedimento de otimização e os desvios padrões relativos das variáveis calculadas foram discutidos para inspirar a realização de mais trabalhos experimentais para investigar as reações eutetóides estáveis e/ou metaestáveis, ?->? + Ti3Si e ?->? + + Ti5Si3; e para melhorar cada vez mais as otimizações termodinâmicas do diagrama de fases do sistema Ti-Si.

RESUMEN: La presente tesis se enmarca en el campo del razonamiento proporcional, e indaga por el lugar de las razones, proporciones y proporcionalidad (RPP) en las pr?cticas matem?ticas institucionalizadas en dos grupos de estudiantes de la Educaci?n B?sica primaria (a saber, estudiantes de los grados 3o y 4o de una instituci?n educativa de la ciudad de Cali), por el estatus epistemol?gico de los objetos de conocimiento RPP, y por el sistema de pr?cticas que permiten su constituci?n como objetos de conocimiento, para lo cual se plantearon dos prop?sitos: (1) caracterizar los sistemas de pr?cticas matem?ticas de dos grupos de estudiantes de los grados 3o y 4o de la Educaci?n B?sica primaria, con respecto a los objetos de conocimiento matem?tico raz?n, proporci?n y proporcionalidad; (ii) indagar por las configuraciones epist?micas para dichos sistemas de pr?cticas matem?ticas. Para desarrollar lograr lo anterior, la tesis se soport? sobre elementos de la teor?a de la actividad y de la filosof?a de la pr?ctica, estudiando los procesos de constituci?n del conocimiento matem?tico en el marco de una dial?ctica entre lo individual y lo social, dial?ctica mediada por tales sistemas de pr?cticas. Adem?s, desde el punto de vista metodol?gico, la investigaci?n se organiz? en dos etapas: (i) un proceso de participaci?n en las clases de matem?ticas de estudiantes de tercero y cuarto de primaria de una instituci?n educativa de la ciudad de Cali; (ii) un estudio hist?rico-epistemol?gico de pr?cticas matem?ticas en ?pocas y lugares diferentes. Los principales hallazgos de la tesis se pueden resumir en los siguientes t?rminos: I. El lugar central de las magnitudes y la medici?n de cantidades de magnitud en los procesos de estudio de razones, proporciones y proporcionalidad, y de la noci?n de raz?n como uno de los fundamentos en las conceptualizaciones relativas a lo multiplicativo y los n?meros racionales. II. Una reconceptualizaci?n de las nociones de raz?n, proporci?n y proporcionalidad a partir de principios presentes en los procesos de constituci?n hist?rico-epistemol?gica de dichos objetos, recuperando el car?cter geom?trico de la raz?n y su funci?n epist?mica con respecto a las cantidades que pone en relaci?n: a. La raz?n como medida relativa, si se define entre dos cantidades homog?neas, o como relativizaci?n a la unidad, si se define entre dos cantidades heterog?neas. b. La raz?n como relator o como operador (cuando la raz?n se define entre cantidades homog?neas) o la raz?n como correlator o transformador (cuando se establece entre familias de cantidades, no necesariamente homog?neas).

In this paper, a vector autorregresive model (VAR) is applied to examine the interrelationship among foreign direct investment, exports, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), unemployment rate and labor force participation rate in Puerto Rico, taking into account a time period that includes the fiscal years from 1980 to 2010 -- Four cointegrating vectors were found in the system which indicates that there is a long run relationship between the variables -- The findings suggest that consecutive increases in foreign direct investment inflows could significantly reduce the unemployment rate and increase interest in joining the labor force in Puerto Rico -- The same result also applies to increases in export levels -- The variations in Gross Domestic Product are mainly explained in the long run by the unemployment rate

El problema del narcotráfico generó cambios estructurales en diversos ámbitos de la sociedad colombiana, alterando la escena política, las dinámicas económicas y marcando a la población del país por medio de sus actos terroristas. Además, esta problemática se convirtió en un tema principal en la agenda de la política exterior colombiana, exponiendo al país como una amenaza a la estabilidad regional. Por lo anterior, este trabajo tiene el objetivo de identificar, desde las teorías del Realismo Subalterno y la Interdependencia Compleja, cómo la evolución del narcotráfico modificó el proceso de inserción de Colombia en el sistema internacional durante los años 1994 -2002.
