Esta dissertação é um estudo sobre a influência exercida por Mário de Andrade na formação humana e no processo criativo do poeta Carlos Drummond de Andrade, a partir do encontro do mineiro com o movimento modernista brasileiro. Utilizando como corpus a correspondência trocada entre os dois poetas, durante o período de 1924 até 1945, incluída integralmente na obra Carlos & Mário (2002), buscamos apontar o movimento de doação compartilhada que ocorreu entre eles, a atuação recíproca na construção da amizade, tomando por base a premissa de que cartas são veículos de subjetividade, instrumentos que desencadeiam trocas, adesões e sociabilidades, e, quando trocadas entre escritores, deixam de ser simples relatos biográficos e extrapolam seus limites, passando a ser um objeto de investigação literária. Por vivenciarem o contexto revolucionário do movimento modernista, os dois artistas encontraram na escrita epistolográfica um espaço estratégico para o debate e a formulação de seus pensamentos e ideais. Nesse sentido, procuramos esclarecer a importância da formação estética de Mário no combate à resistência passadista drummondiana; o esforço do escritor paulista em apresentar, com a paciência didática de um professor-amigo, as ideias modernistas presentes em sua plataforma teórica, fontes inovadoras de ensinamentos poéticos; e a gradativa incorporação, pelo poeta mineiro, das lições do amigo Mário de Andrade, a tal ponto que os dois correspondentes passam a dialogar não mais como mestre e discípulo, mas como intelectuais e artistas de igual porte e autonomia de pensamento

Diante dos avanços tecnológicos, pesquisadores têm intensificado a busca por métodos de remoção de metais, que tragam bons resultados de captação a partir de efluentes contaminados, aliados a um baixo custo. A utilização de materiais biológicos como algas marinhas, fungos e bactérias vem se destacando e se tornando uma solução atrativa quando comparados com os tratamentos químicos convencionais; essa técnica é denominada biossorção. A biossorção é um processo de captação de íons metálicos de uma solução, a partir de interações entre o metal e determinados sítios ativos presentes na parede celular da biomassa. Existe também um crescente interesse pelo estudo dos elementos de terras raras (TR) por possuirem alto valor agregado, acarretado por processos caros e de alta complexidade na sua separação e purificação. Desta forma, este trabalho teve como objetivo descrever o potencial de biossorção de lantânio - um representante dos TR - pela macroalga Sargassum sp., a partir de soluções aquosas. Para isso foram realizados estudos em batelada, aplicando modelos cinéticos e de equilíbrio, e estudos em regime contínuo de biossorção dos íons de lantânio (III), além de um sistema contínuo bimetálico, no qual houve a adição do metal cério, outro TR. As determinações analíticas foram realizadas por espectrometria de emissão ótica por plasma indutivamente acoplado. Os ensaios cinéticos foram realizados nas concentrações metálicas de 10 e 100 mg.L-1 e em duas concentrações distintas de biomassa 2 e 5 g.L-1 na temperatura de 301C. Dois modelos cinéticos foram testados, pseudo-primeira ordem e segunda ordem, tendo o modelo de segunda ordem apresentado melhor ajuste dos dados, com r2 igual a 0,9697. No ensaio de equilíbrio foi construída a isoterma que apresentou um perfil crescente na captação no entanto não alcançou a remoção máxima. Os modelos de Langmuir e Freundlich foram utilizados para ajustar os dados da isoterma, sendo verificado maior correlação dos dados com o modelo de Langmuir; resultando num valor de captação máxima calculado pelo modelo de 3,55 mmol.g-1. No ensaio dinâmico foram realizados dois experimentos, 1 e 2. O Experimento 1 foi realizado com três colunas interligadas e recheadas com 20g de biomassa cada, sendo bombeada uma solução aquosa de lantânio na concentração de 1,41mmol.L-1. O Experimento 2 foi constituido de uma solução contendo lantânio e cério ambos na mesma concentração anterior de 1,41 mmol.L-1, sendo bombeada somente para uma única coluna recheada com 20g de biomassa. Os resultados demonstraram que o ponto de saturação não foi atingido dentro das 8 horas em que se deu o processo, o que indica a alta afinidade da Sargassum sp. pelo lantânio e que a presença do cério associada a redução da vazão prejudicou a captação do lantânio

Neste trabalho, a partição iônica e o potencial de membrana em um eritrócito são analisados via equação de Poisson-Boltzmann modificada, considerando as interações não eletrostáticas presentes entre os íons e macromoléculas, assim como, o potencial β. Este potencial é atribuído à diferença de potencial químico de referência entre os meios intracelular e extracelular e ao transporte ativo de íons. O potencial de Gibbs-Donnan via equação de Poisson-Boltzmann na presença de carga fixa em um sistema contendo uma membrana semipermeável também é estudado. O método de aproximação paraboloide em elementos finitos em um sistema estacionário e unidimensionalé aplicado para resolver a equação de Poisson-Boltzmann em coordenadas cartesianas e esféricas. O parâmetro de dispersão relativo às interações não eletrostáticas écalculado via teoria de Lifshitz. Os resultados em relação ao potencial de Gibbs-Donnan mostram-se adequados, podendo ser calculado pela equação de Poisson-Boltzmann. No sistema contendo um eritrócito, quando o potencial β é considerado igual a zero, não se verifica a diferença iônica observada experimentalmente entre os meios intracelular e extracelular. Dessa forma, os potenciais não eletrostáticos calculados via teoria de Lifshitz têm apenas uma pequena influência no que se refere à alta concentração de íon K+ no meio intracelular em relação ao íon Na+

A necessidade de redução da emissão de poluentes, visando diminuir os sérios problemas de poluição atmosférica enfrentados atualmente, é hoje uma das principais preocupações mundiais, provocando o surgimento de leis mais rígidas, que restringem o teor de enxofre na gasolina e no diesel. Assim, o desenvolvimento de tecnologias mais eficazes na remoção de enxofre nestes combustíveis tem recebido atenção crescente. Estas tecnologias incluem a extração física com solvente, a adsorção seletiva, processos de redução/oxidação microbiológicos e a dessulfurização oxidativa (ODS). A dessulfurização oxidativa converte os compostos de enxofre em sulfonas que podem ser facilmente separadas por processos físicos. Portanto, a ODS apresenta grande potencial para tornar-se um processo complementar a processo de hidrodessulfurização tradicional na produção de combustíveis altamente dessulfurizados. Neste contexto, este trabalho visou o estudo do desempenho de catalisadores de V2O5 suportados em alumina, sílica e sílica-alumina frente à reação de ODS do dibenzotiofeno em presença do peróxido de hidrogênio, como oxidante, e da acetonitrila, como solvente polar aprótico. Os catalisadores foram preparados por impregnação ao ponto úmido e caracterizados por difração de raios-X (DRX), análise textural, redução à temperatura programada (TPR-H2), dessorção de amônia à temperatura programa (TPD-NH3) e espectroscopia Raman. O efeito de parâmetros reacionais como quantidade de solvente, relação O/S e concentração de catalisador foram investigados, utilizando a alumina como suporte, visando estabelecer as condições reacionais que levassem a maiores valores de conversão do dibenzotiofeno (DBT). Uma vez estabelecidas estas condições, foi analisado o efeito do teor de V2O5 presente no catalisador e, posteriormente, o efeito do suporte catalítico. Os resultados obtidos mostraram a 70 C razão molar H2O2/Sde 16,6, razão carga/solvente igual a 1:1 e 100 mg do catalisador 15 % V2O5/SiO2, a conversão obtida foi de 95%

Fisheries employ a number of people and fisheries industry is truly an amalgamation of various disparate sectors. Fisheries play an important role in Indian economy and it provides employment to a number of people. For planning of integrated development of fisheries industry and resource management, a considerable amount of information is required. In this paper a study of the disparate sectors with regards to the nature of work, number of workers, sex-wise participation, earning type and earning in Indian Rupees in the year 1991-92, 1992-93, 1993-94 and 1999-2000 has been done in a selected fishing village. The geographical locale where the study has been done is Versova fishing village which is a major fish landing centre in Mumbai. The study has revealed that there are a number of disparate sectors in fisheries and in this fishing village on an average, a boat owner provided employment to 30-60 people in the year 1994 and to 19-25 people in 1999. Though this number has shown a decreasing trend with the advancement of years, it is however, seen that a number of people are employed in various disparate sectors in fisheries. It is necessary to highlight this and in any developmental planning, all these sectors should be given equal importance.

Aircraft in high-lift configuration shed multiple vortices. These generally merge to form a downstream wake consisting of two counter-rotating vortices of equal strength. The understanding of the merger of two co-rotating trailing vortices is important in evaluating the separation criteria for different aircraft to prevent wake vortex hazards during landing and take-off. There is no existing theoretical method on the basis of which such norms can be set. The present study is aimed at gaining a better understanding of the behaviour of wake vortices behind the aircraft. Two dimensional studies are carried out using the vortex blob method and compared with Bertenyi's experiment. It is shown that inviscid two dimensional effects are insufficient to explain the observations. Three dimensional studies, using the vortex filament method, are applied to the same test case. Two Lamb-Oseen profile vortices of the same dimensions and initial separation as the experiment are allowed to evolve from a straight starting condition until a converged steady flow is achieved. The results obtained show good agreement with the experimental distance to merger. Core radius and separation behaviour is qualitatively similar to experiment, with the exception of rapid increases at first. This may be partially attributable to the choice of filament-element length, and recommended further work includes a convergence study for this parameter. Tiger prawn P.monodon) larvae utilize Brachionus a rotifer, as food in the Zoea 3 and mysis stages when they change from an herbivorous to an omnivorous diet. The present work aims to show the effects of furanace on the population growth of Brachionus. Cultures of Brachionus were obtained and fed with Chlorella at a density of 1-2x10 SUP-6 cells/ml. Five liters of the culture water were placed in each of 4 white, circular, 152x304 mm plastic basins. The mean initial densities of the rotifer ranged from 26 . 5 to 38 . 5 individuals/ml. The concentrations of furanace were 0, 1, 2 and 3 mg /l. The cultures were vigorously aerated. Population growth was observed after 3, 6, and 9 hours of exposure. The cultures were thoroughly mixed before samples were taken to ensure an almost equal distribution of the rotifers in the water. To facilitate the counting of the rotifer, one drop of Lugol's solution was added to each sample. This immobilizes the rotifer as well as stops further reproduction. Individuals with only the lorica left or with badly deformed lorica were considered dead. Population counts were done using a Sedgwick-Rafter counting chamber. Among the different durations of exposure, the percentage survival of the populations in the furanace baths were highest after 3 hr. There were slight increases in the control and 2 mg/l and slight decreases in 1 and 3 mg/l. The differences in the mean densities are statistically insignificant at . 01 significance level. After a 6-hr exposure, the control population reached its peak density with a survival of 89%. Populations in furanace baths decreased to 88 . 5% in both 2 and 3 mg /l followed closely by 87% in 1 mg/l. Again, no statistical differences exist among all the levels. The mean percentage survival in 1 and 2 mg/l increased (89% and 91%, respectively) after a 9-hr expsoure, while those in the control and 3 mg/l decreased to 86 . 5% and 88 . 25%, respectively. There were no marked differences in appearance noted among the individuals in furanace baths and those in the control.

Whether mice perceive the depth of space dependent on the visual size of object targets was explored when visual cues such as perspective and partial occlusion in space were excluded. A mouse was placed on a platform the height of which is adjustable. The platform located inside a box in which all other walls were dark exception its bottom through that light was projected as a sole visual cue. The visual object cue was composed of 4x4 grids to allow a mouse estimating the distance of the platform relative to the grids. Three sizes of grids reduced in a proportion of 2/3 and seven distances with an equal interval between the platform and the grids at the bottom were applied in the experiments. The duration of a mouse staying on the platform at each height was recorded when the different sizes of the grids were presented randomly to test whether the Judgment of the mouse for the depth of the platform from the bottom was affected by the size information of the visual target. The results from all conditions of three object sizes show that time of mice staying on the platform became longer with the increase in height. In distance of 20 similar to 30 cm, the mice did not use the size information of a target to judge the depth, while mainly used the information of binocular disparity. In distance less than 20 cm or more than 30 cm, however, especially in much higher distance 50 cm, 60 cm and 70 cm, the mice were able to use the size information to do so in order to compensate the lack of binocular disparity information from both eyes. Because the mice have only 1/3 of the visual field that is binocular. This behavioral paradigm established in the current study is a useful model and can be applied to the experiments using transgenic mouse as an animal model to investigate the relationships between behaviors and gene functions.

Many short-term studies have reported groups of black crested gibbons containing >= 2 adult females (Nomascus concolor). We report the stability of multifemale groups in this species over a period of 6 yr. Our focal group and 2 neighboring groups included 2 breeding females between March 2003 and June 2009. We also habituated 1 multifemale group to observers and present detailed information concerning their social relationships over a 9-mo observation period. We investigated interindividual distances and agonistic behavior among the 5 group members. The spatial relationship between the 3 adult members (1 male, 2 females) formed an equilateral triangle. A subadult male was peripheral to the focal group, while a juvenile male maintained a closer spatial relationship with the adult members. We observed little agonistic behavior among the adult members. The close spatial relationship and lack of high rates of agonistic behavior among females suggest that the benefits of living in a multifemale group were equal to or greater than the costs for both females, given their ecological and social circumstances. The focal group occupied a large home range that was likely to provide sufficient food sources for the 2 females and their offspring. Between March 2003 and June 2009, 1 adult female gave 2 births and the other one gave 1 birth. All individuals in the focal group survived to June 2009. A long-term comparative study focused on females living in multifemale groups and females living in pair-living groups would provide insight into understanding the evolutionary mechanisms of the social system in gibbons.

Chronic exposure to opiates impairs hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP) and spatial memory, but the underlying mechanisms remain to be elucidated. Given the well known effects of adenosine, an important neuromodulator, on hippocampal neuronal excitability and synaptic plasticity, we investigated the potential effect of changes in adenosine concentrations on chronic morphine treatment-induced impairment of hippocampal CA1 LTP and spatial memory. We found that chronic treatment in mice with either increasing doses (20-100 mg/kg) of morphine for 7 d or equal daily dose (20 mg/kg) of morphine for 12 d led to a significant increase of hippocampal extracellular adenosine concentrations. Importantly, we found that accumulated adenosine contributed to the inhibition of the hippocampal CA1 LTP and impairment of spatial memory retrieval measured in the Morris water maze. Adenosine A(1) receptor antagonist 8-cyclopentyl-1,3-dipropylxanthine significantly reversed chronic morphine-induced impairment of hippocampal CA1 LTP and spatial memory. Likewise, adenosine deaminase, which converts adenosine into the inactive metabolite inosine, restored impaired hippocampal CA1 LTP. We further found that adenosine accumulation was attributable to the alteration of adenosine uptake but not adenosine metabolisms. Bidirectional nucleoside transporters (ENT2) appeared to play a key role in the reduction of adenosine uptake. Changes in PKC-alpha/beta activity were correlated with the attenuation of the ENT2 function in the short-term (2 h) but not in the long-term (7 d) period after the termination of morphine treatment. This study reveals a potential mechanism by which chronic exposure to morphine leads to impairment of both hippocampal LTP and spatial memory.

Black-and-white snub-nosed monkeys (Rhinopithecus bieti) are endemic to the Trans-Himalayas in Northwest Yunnan and Southeast Tibet between the upper Yangtze and Mekong Rivers. Based on field surveys and previous reports, we identified the dark-coniferous forest, the mixed coniferous and broadleaf forest, and oak patches as suitable habitats (SH) for the monkeys. Summer grazing lands (SGL), which were made by local people cutting and burning the dark-coniferous forest at the high altitude belt, replaced SH. To have a general view of the status of the SH in Yunnan, we estimated the areas of SH and SGL from satellite images in 1997, and compared with areas estimated from aerial photo-based maps (ca. 1958). The work resulted in: 1) the area of SH was 4,169 km(2) in 1997; 2) SGL was 1,923 km(2); 3) during the past 40 years, the area of SH decreased by 31% (1,887 km(2)), and SGL increased by 204% (1,291 km(2)); and 4) the mean size of forest patches decreased from 15.6 to 5.4 km(2). In addition, the area of SGL is positively correlated to local human population (R-2 greater than or equal to0.53), implying that the reduction and fragmentation of habitat for Rhinopithecus bieti is a result of population growth of humans, who mostly employ traditional modes of production. Only 11 monkey groups remained in the changing habitat. Considering that forests at lower elevation were also encroached upon by farmlands in a similar way, the forest ecosystem is highly threatened. The destruction will continue unless there is a change in the mode of production in the region.

A hybrid method for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is presented. The method inherits the attractive stabilizing mechanism of upwinded discontinuous Galerkin methods when momentum advection becomes significant, equal-order interpolations can be used for the velocity and pressure fields, and mass can be conserved locally. Using continuous Lagrange multiplier spaces to enforce flux continuity across cell facets, the number of global degrees of freedom is the same as for a continuous Galerkin method on the same mesh. Different from our earlier investigations on the approach for the Navier-Stokes equations, the pressure field in this work is discontinuous across cell boundaries. It is shown that this leads to very good local mass conservation and, for an appropriate choice of finite element spaces, momentum conservation. Also, a new form of the momentum transport terms for the method is constructed such that global energy stability is guaranteed, even in the absence of a pointwise solenoidal velocity field. Mass conservation, momentum conservation, and global energy stability are proved for the time-continuous case and for a fully discrete scheme. The presented analysis results are supported by a range of numerical simulations. © 2012 Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

In order to guarantee a sustainable supply of future energy demand without compromising the environment, some actions for a substantial reduction of CO 2 emissions are nowadays deeply analysed. One of them is the improvement of the nuclear energy use. In this framework, innovative gas-cooled reactors (both thermal and fast) seem to be very attractive from the electricity production point of view and for the potential industrial use along the high temperature processes (e.g., H 2 production by steam reforming or I-S process). This work focuses on a preliminary (and conservative) evaluation of possible advantages that a symbiotic cycle (EPR-PBMR-GCFR) could entail, with special regard to the reduction of the HLW inventory and the optimization of the exploitation of the fuel resources. The comparison between the symbiotic cycle chosen and the reference one (once-through scenario, i.e., EPR-SNF directly disposed) shows a reduction of the time needed to reach a fixed reference level from ∼170000 years to ∼1550 years (comparable with typical human times and for this reason more acceptable by the public opinion). In addition, this cycle enables to have a more efficient use of resources involved: the total electric energy produced becomes equal to ∼630 TWh/year (instead of only ∼530 TWh/year using only EPR) without consuming additional raw materials. © 2009 Barbara Vezzoni et al.

Immunostimulants are the substances, which enhance the non-specific defence mechanism and provide resistance against the invading pathogenic micro-organism. In order to increase the immunity of shrimps against the WSSV, the methanolic extracts of five different herbal medicinal plants like Cyanodon dactylon, Aegle marmelos, Tinospora cordifolia, Picrorhiza kurooa and Eclipta alba were selected and mixed thoroughly in equal proportion. The mixed extract was supplemented with various concentrations viz. 100 (A), 200 (B), 400 (C), and 800 (D) mg kg(-1) through artificial diets individually. The prepared diets (A-D) were fed individually to WSSV free healthy shrimp Penaeus monodon with an average weight of 8.0 +/- 0.5 g for 25 days. Control diet (E), devoid of herbal extract was also fed to shrimps simultaneously. After 25 days of feeding experiment, the shrimps were challenged with WSSV, which were isolated and propagated from the infected crustaceans. The shrimps succumbed to death within 7 days when fed on no herbal immunostimulant diet (E). Among the different concentrations of herbal immunostimulant supplemented diets, the shrimps fed on diet D (800 mg kg(-1)) significantly (P < 0.0001) had more survival (74%) and reduction in the viral load. Also the better performance of haematological, biochemical and immunological parameters was found in the immunostimulant incorporated diets fed shrimps. The present work revealed that the application of herbal immunostimulants will be effective against shrimp viral pathogenesis and they can be recommended for shrimp culture. The objectives of this work were to study the effects of several feeding stimulants on gibel carp fed diets with or without replacement of fish meal by meat and bone meal (MBM). The feeding stimulants tested were betaine, glycine, L-lysine, L-methionine, L-phenylalanine, and a commercial squid extract. Three inclusion levels were tested for each stimulant (0.18, 0.5%, and 1% for betaine and 0.1, 0.25 and 0.5% for the other stimulants). Two basal diets (40% crude protein) were used. one with 26% fish meal (FM), and the other with 21% fish meal and 6% MBM, Betaine at 0.1% in the fish meal group and at 0.5% in the meat and bone meal group was used in all experiments for comparison among stimulants. In the experiment on each stimulant, six tanks of fish were equally divided into two groups, one fed the FM diet, and the other fed the MBM diet. After 7 days' adaptation to the basal diet, in which the fish were fed to satiation twice a day, the fish were fed for another 7 days an equal mixture of diets containing varying levels of stimulants. Each diet contained a unique rare earth oxide as inert marker (Y2O3, Yb2O3, La2O3, Sm2O3 or Nd2O3). During the last 3 days of the experiment, faeces from each tank were collected. Preference for each diet was estimated based on the relative concentration of each marker in the faeces. Gibel carp fed the FM diet had higher intake than those fed the MBM diet, but the difference was significant only in the experiments on betaine, glycine and L-methionine. None of the feeding stimulants tested showed feeding enhancing effects in FM diets. All feeding stimulants showed feeding enhancing effects in MBM diets. and the optimum inclusion level was 0.5% for betaine, 0.1% for glycine, 0.25% for L-lysine, 0.1% for L-methionine. 0.25% For L-phenylalanine. and 0.1% for squid extract.
