Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää ITIL-implementoinnin ulottumista käytännön tasolle teleoperaattorin verkonvalvonnassa. Perusperiaatteena on selvittää verkonvalvonnassa työskentelevien mielipiteitä ITIL-implementoinnista. ITIL:n mukaisten prosessien käyttöönoton on havaittu aiemmissa tutkimuksissa yleisesti tehostavan yritysten toimintaa. Prosessien implementointivaiheessa on otettava huomioon erilaisia asioita, jotta prosessit saadaan tehokkaasti käyttöön. Tärkeitä asioita ovat muun muassa henkilöstön tiedottaminen ja kouluttaminen, yrityksen sisäisen kommunikoinnin parantaminen sekä prosessien mukaan työskenteleminen. Tutkimuksen analyysi on toteutettu määrällisten ja laadullisten menetelmien avulla. Mielipiteitä mitattiin viisiportaisen Likert-asteikon mukaan. Kysely sisälsi myös avoimia kysymyksiä, joita on analysoitu niin määrällisesti kuin laadullisen sisällönanalyysinkin avulla. Tutkimuksen aineisto on kerätty kyselytutkimuksella, johon vastasi 30 teleoperaattorin verkonvalvonnan työntekijää. Tutkimuksessa havaittiin, että pääpiirteittäin ITIL-implementointi on ulottunut käytännön tasolle asti tutkittavan teleoperaattorin verkonvalvonnassa. Työntekijöiden kokema osaamistaso sekä työskentelytavat ovat jo verrattain hyvällä tasolla. Tutkimuksessa nousi esiin myös kohteita, jotka kaipaavat hiomista, kuten esimerkiksi tiedottamisen, koulutuksen ja työskentelyohjeiden parantaminen.

Foot health is a part of overall health in every age group and its importance increases during ageing. Health care professionals are in a vital position for preventing foot health problems, and identifying and caring them in older people. Despite the rather high number of studies conducted in the field of foot health in older people, reliable and valid nurse-administered foot health assessment instruments seem to be lacking. By identifying foot health in older people, it is possible to develop nursing interventions to enhance safe, independent living at home. The purpose of this three-phase study was to develop an instrument to assess the level of foot health in older people and evaluate foot care practices from the perspective of older people themselves and nurses in home care. The ultimate goal is to prevent foot health problems by increasing the attention paid to older people’s feet and recognizing those foot health problems which need further care; thus not focus on different foot health problems. The study was conducted in different phases and contexts. In phase 1, a descriptive design with a literature review from the Medline (R) and CINAHL databases to explore foot health in older people and nurses’ role in foot health care and pre-post design intervention study in nursing home with nursing staff (n=16) and older residents (n=43) were conducted. In phase 2, a descriptive and explorative study design was employed to develop an instrument for assessing foot health in older people (N=651, n=309, response rate 47%) and explore the psychometrics of the instrument. The data were collected from sheltered housing and home care settings. Finally, in phase 3, descriptive and explorative as well as cross-sectional correlational survey designs were used to assess foot health and evaluate the foot self-care activities of older people (N=651, n=309, response rate 47%) and to describe foot care knowledge and caring activities of nurses (N=651, n=322, response rate 50%) in home care in Finland. To achieve this, the Foot Health Assessment Instrument (FHAI) developed in phase 2 was used; at the same time, this large sample also was used for the psychometric evaluation of the FHAI. The data analysis methods used in this study were content analysis, descriptive and inferential statistics including factor and multivariate analysis. Many long-term diseases can manifest in feet. Therefore, the FHAI, developed in this study consisted of items relating to skin and nail health, foot structure and foot pain. The FHAI demonstrated acceptable preliminary psychometric properties. A great deal of different foot health problems in older people were found of which edema, dry skin, thickened and discoloured toenails and hallux valgus were the most prevalent foot health problems. Moreover, many older people had difficulties in performing foot self-care. Nurses’ knowledge of foot care was insufficient and revealed a need for more information and continuing education in matters relating to foot care in older people. Instead, nurses’ foot care activities were mainly adequate, though the findings indicate the need for updating foot care activities to correspond with the evidence found in the field of foot care. Practical implications are presented for nursing practice, education and administration. In future, research should focus on developing interventions for older people and nurses to promote foot health in older people and to prevent foot health problems, as well as for further development of the FHAI.

Acid mine drainage (AMD) presents a serious problem for the environment for the massive formation of acidic leachates containing heavy metals. The present work deals with the AMD treatment using neutralizing limestone side-products. The conventional methods for prevention, mitigating and control of AMD formation are described. The experimental testing of Nordkalk Oy calcite-containing side-stones for acid neutralizing and removal of nickel from solutions presents the research objective. The batch experiments in acid neutralizing with subsequent metal content analysis were carried out. The results showed the dependence of pH on the dose of neutralizing material and the exposure time. The nickel removal, unlike iron, within the pH range from 1.2 to 6.0 appeared to be inadequate. The further research on nickel co-precipitation with iron and aluminium may appear to be necessary together with testing of alkalinity strengthening materials.

The birth of Internet technologies, the developments of fast fashion and multiple retailing channels have created a need for a new, more integrated way for doing retailing. Agility in fast fashion retailing could be seen as a significant way of responding to these changes and furthermore, as a way to respond to consumers’ altering demands. The purpose of this study was to explore the ways in which agile supply chains and integrated multichannel retailing influence the international fast fashion retailing. A framework for agility in retail was developed based on available theoretical considerations in distribution and communication channels. Qualitative research methods and qualitative content analysis were used. Four expert interviews were carried out to gain new perspectives to the objectives. The rest of the data was collected from an industry specific document, expert video and two expert lectures. Following the data collection, the research material was analyzed with qualitative content analysis. The empirical findings on agility in retail were presented based on a coding frame. It was found that agility in retail has multiple parts, which are overlapping and affecting one another. Furthermore, instead of viewing the agile supply chain and integrated multichannel retailing separately of each other as usual, it was found that they should be integrated, and the term “agility” was proposed to denote this approach. Also, it was found that the most common drivers and constrains of integrated multichannel retailing were the new Internet technologies and customer demand. Brick-and-mortar store, online store, mobile devices and social media were found to be the most common retailing channels. Furthermore, in-store technology, click-and-collect approach, NFC-buying, RFID-technology as well as 3D- digital simulations on fabrics and patterns will enhance agility even more in the future. In addition, environmental issues, customer experiences and communication will be important factors. This study has provided new practical insights for the future retailing. Furthermore, it has contributed to the academic research by discussing the traditional approaches of agility in fast fashion retail and bringing in new insights.

This study focuses on the relationship between organizational network competence and the internationalization process of small- and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Over recent decades, the global business environment has become increasingly conducive to internationalization of small firms. A central facilitating factor in the process has been the emergence of networked business relationships between internationalizing firms. Research on SME internationalization has found that certain types of structures and dynamics of business networks allow SMEs access to the resources they need to enter foreign markets. This consequently means that their internationalization often becomes to depend on the networks they are embedded in. However, research so far has mostly ignored the possibility that the organizational ability to develop and manage business network relationships, network competence, may be a major underlying factor in determining how well SMEs can leverage their network relationships to enter foreign markets and consequently may determine in large part how successful their internationalization process turns out to be. This study aims to respond to those gaps, by empirically examining how the development of network competence in internationalizing SMEs influences the internationalization outcomes that they can expect, and how such network competence is conceptualized and developed. Using a mixed methods approach, survey data collected from 298 Finnish SMEs across five industry sectors is first used to examine how levels of network competence are related to internationalization propensity of SMEs and their subsequent international performance, growth and profitability as internationally operating firms. In order to illustrate in more detail the ways in which network competence is conceptualized and how it develops during the internationalization process of an SME, qualitative data from internationally operating Finnish SMEs are used. Longitudinal interview data of an internationalizing Finnish SME is accompanied by data gathered through a series of semistructured interviews of Finnish and Russian managers involved in mutual business relationship dyads. Structurally, this thesis examines the research issue as an article-based dissertation, consisting of five journal and conference publications. Three of these publications are based on the quantitative data, and the remaining two apply the qualitative interview data. The results find several aspects where network competence has a positive influence on the success of internationalizing SMEs, how it develops and what it entails conceptually in this context. Quantitatively, the level of network competence is found to have a positive relationship to various internationalization outcomes, including the propensity of SMEs to enter foreign markets and on their subsequent international performance, their growth and their profitability. Additionally, the positive relationship is divided between the relationship-specific and cross-relational dimension of network competence, in that the influence of the former is relevant for the propensity to internationalize, while the latter is for the growth and profitability of the already internationalized SMEs. Qualitatively, the results suggest, firstly, that the development process of network competence does not necessarily precede the start of the internationalization process, but may occur through a gradual learning process alongside it. And secondly, the results also imply that the conceptualization of network competence by Finnish managers of internationally operating Finnish SMEs is structurally distinct from that of their culturally distinct partner managers in Russia. This study contributes to the literature on SME internationalization in several ways. Firstly, it introduces operationalized organizational competencies to the literature on internationalization of SMEs, which has so far mainly examined the influence of business networking on the internationalization process without having such an organizational viewpoint. Furthermore, this study provides a multi-level analysis of the determinants of successful SME internationalization, by examining various strategic and performance outcomes across the process. These results also contribute to the literature on organizational strategy of internationalizing SMEs, by clarifying how different dimensions of business networking may be optimal in different phases of the internationalization process. Conceptually, the results of this study contribute to the literature on competence development and SME internationalization, by illustrating how the development process of network competence may occur during internationalization process. Thus, they also contribute to the discussion on how SMEs are able to influence the dynamics and structures of their business networks over time. Finally, this study contributes to the literature on the role of culture in the internationalization process, by implying that the cultural background of the manager of the SME may determine whether business networking and network competence is seen as an organizational-level or an individual level capability. The study also includes some additional contributions to the literature on dynamic capabilities in strategic management, and on that of strategic business networks. These include further clarifying the exact nature and tangibility of dynamic capabilities, and being one of the first studies to introduce constructs from both dynamic capabilities and business network literature to the field of international entrepreneurship. And finally, the study also has some contribution on the two streams of literature, in illustrating how both dyadic and network-level capabilities may be relevant, depending on the current strategic goals and market position of the firm. This study is based on the notion that all students are likely to have a computer of some kind as their primary tool at school within a few years. The overall aim is to contribute to the knowledge of what this development of computer-assisted multimodal text production and communication on and over the net may entail in a school context. The study has an abductive approach drawing on theory from Media and Communication studies and from Pedagogy - particularly on media peda-gogy, multimodality, storytelling, conversation research and deliberative democracy – and is based on a DBR project in three schools. The empirical data are retrieved from four school classes, school years 4 and 5, with good access to computers and digital cameras. The classes have used the class blogs to tell the blog visitors about their school work and Skype to communicate with other classes in Sweden and Tanzania. A variety of research methods was employed: content analysis of texts, observations with field notes and camera documentation, interviews with individual students, group interviews with teachers and students, and a small survey. The study is essentially qualitative, focusing on students’ different perceptions. A small quantitative study was conducted to determine if any factors and variables could be linked to each other and to enable comparisons of the surveyed group with other research results. The results suggest that more computers at school offer more opportunities for real-life assignments and the chance to secure an authentic audience to the students’ production; primarily the students’ parents and relatives, students in the same class and at other schools. A theoretical analysis model to determine the degree of reality and authenticity in various school assignments was developed. The results also indicate that having access to cameras for documenting various events in the classes and to an authentic audience can create new opportunities for storytelling that have not been practiced previously at school. The documentary photo invites a viewer into the present tense of the image and the location where the picture was taken, whoever took the picture. It is used by the students and here too, a model has been developed to describe this relationship. The study also focuses on the freedom of expression and democracy. One of the more unexpected findings is that the students in the study did not see that they can influence other people’s perceptions or change various power structures through communication on the web, neither in nor outside of school.

Social media has become a part of many people’s everyday lives. In the library field the adoption of social media has been widespread and discussions of the development of “Library 2.0” began at an early stage. The aim with this thesis is to study the interface between public libraries, social media, and users, focusing on information activities. The main research question is: How is the interface between public libraries and social media perceived and acted upon by its main stakeholders (library professionals and users)? The background of Library 2.0 is strongly associated with the development of the Web and social media, as well as with the public libraries and their user-centered and information technological development. The theoretical framework builds on the research within the area of Library and Information Science concerning information behavior, information practice, and information activities. Earlier research on social media and public libraries is also highlighted in this thesis. The methods survey and content analysis were applied to map the interface between social media and public libraries. A questionnaire was handed out to the users and another questionnaire was sent out to the library professionals. The results were statistically analyzed. In the content analysis public library Facebook pages were studied. All the empirical investigations were conducted in the area of Finland Proper. An integrated analysis of the results deepens the understanding of the key elements of the social media and public library context. These elements are interactivity, information activities, perceptions, and stakeholders. In this context seven information activities were distinguished: reading, seeking, creating, communicating, informing, mediating, and contributing. This thesis contributes to develop the research concerning information activities and draws a realistic picture of the challenges and opportunities in the social media and public library context. It also contributes with knowledge on library professionals and library users, and the existing differences in their perceptions of the interface between libraries and social media.

Pro gradu –tutkielman ensisijaisena tavoitteena on tutkia sähköisen ta-loushallinnon kehitystä ja miten se on näkynyt alan suomalaisessa ja kansainvälisessä ammattilehtikirjoittelussa vuosina 1997 – 2013. Tarkoi-tuksena on löytää kirjoittelun perusteella sähköisen taloushallinnon kehi-tyksen edistäviä ja hidastavia tekijöitä sekä minkälaisia tulevaisuuden näkymiä artikkelit luovat sähköiselle taloushallinnolle. Lisäksi tavoitteena on löytää yhtäläisyyksiä ja eroja kansallisen ja kansainvälisen kirjoittelun välillä. Tutkielma on laadullinen tutkimus ja tutkimusmenetelminä käytetään si-sällönanalyysia, sisällönerittelyä, teemoittelua ja vertailevaa tutkimusta. Tutkielman empiirinen aineisto koostuu Tilisanomien, Balanssi–lehden ja Accountancy–lehden sähköistä taloushallintoa koskevista artikkeleista aikavälillä 1997 – 2013. Tutkimustulosten perusteella sähköisen taloushallinnon kehityskulku näkyy myös ammattilehtikirjoittelussa. Tietojärjestelmät ja niiden käytön mahdollistava lainsäädäntö ovat sähköisen taloushallinnon perusedelly-tykset. Suurimpia kehityksen edistäjiä ovat julkinen valta, verkkolaskut ja standardointi. Kehityksen hidastajina nähdään yhtenäisten standardien puute ja asenteet. Sähköisen taloushallinnon tulevaisuuden näkymiä ovat standardoidut prosessit ja käsitteet koko taloushallinnon alueella sekä viranomaisraportointi XBRL-kielen avulla. Suurimmat erot kansalli-sessa ja kansainvälisessä kehityksessä on havaittavissa verkkolaskuissa ja XBRL-raportoinnissa. Johtopäätöksenä todetaan että kirjoittelun perusteella voidaan löytää sähköisen taloushallinnon kehitystä hidastavia ja edistäviä tekijöitä ja se luo viitteitä tulevaisuuden kehitykselle. Sähköinen taloushallinto kehittyy kunkin maan valtiovallan tahtotilan ja lainsäädännön mukaan. Jatkotut-kimuskohteena tutkielmaa voisi laajentaa kansainvälisemmäksi ottamalla mukaan tarkasteluun useampia kansainvälisiä lehtiä ja kansainvälistä lainsäädäntöä.

Objective of the study The aim of this study is to understand the institutional implications in Abenomics in a spatial context, the contemporary economic reform taking place in Japan, which is to finally end over two decades of economic malaise. For theoretical perspective of choice, this study explores a synthesis of institutionalism as the main approach, complemented by economies of agglomeration in spatial economics, or New Economic Geography (NEG). The outcomes include a narrative with implications for future research, as well as possible future implications for the economy of Japan, itself. The narrative seeks to depict the dialogue between public discourse and governmental communication in order to create a picture of how this phenomenon is being socially constructed. This is done by studying the official communications by the Cabinet along with public media commentary on respective topics. The reform is studied with reference to historical socio-cultural, economic evolution of Japan, which in turn, is explored through a literature review. This is to assess the unique institutional characteristics of Japan pertinent to reform. Research method This is a social and exploratory qualitative study – an institutional narrative case study. The methodological approach was kept practical: in addition to literature review, a narrative, thematic content analysis with structural emphasis was used to construct the contemporary narrative based on the Cabinet communication. This was combined with practical analytic tools borrowed from critical discourse analysis, which were utilized to assess the implicit intertextual agenda within sources. Findings What appears to characterize the discourse is status quo bias that comes in multiple forms. The bias is also coded in the institutions surrounding the reform, wherein stakeholders have vested interests in protecting the current state of affairs. This correlates with uncertainty avoidance characteristic to Japan. Japan heeds the international criticism to deregulate on a rhetorical level, but consistent with history, the Cabinet solutions appear increasingly bureaucratic. Hence, the imposed western information-age paradigm of liberal cluster agglomeration seems ill-suited to Japan which lacks risk takers and a felicitous entrepreneur culture. The Japanese, however, possess vast innovative potential ascribed to some institutional practices and traits, but restrained by others. The derived conclusion is to study the successful intrapreneur cases in Japanese institutional setting as a potential benchmark for Japan specific cluster agglomeration, and a solution to its structural problems impeding growth.

The first objective of the thesis is to find out which factors impact on customer profitability has been studied in scientific articles. The second objective is to find out the main authors and publishers from the subject area. Expectations were to find factors from marketing and management accounting literature, but this study did not succeed to gather management accounting perspective on the subject area. This study used bibliometric methods. The data for this study was collected manually from Scopus and Web of Science databases. Search words resulted 770 articles and from those 82 were included to further analyze. Descriptive analysis, citation analysis and content analysis were made. Bibexcel and Pajek software were used in this study. Publication activity was concentrated on years 2004-2013. The most productive author around the subject area is Kumar Vipin from Georgia State University (USA). A multiple customer profitability factors were identified. A lot of research was made for example about satisfaction, relationship duration, loyalty, marketing actions and customer equity drivers. The research is concentrated on service sector. The results are suggesting that there are research gaps in business-to-business and manufacturing sector.

Tässä väitöskirjassa tarkastellaan suomalaisen puoluejohtajuuden ja suuren puolueen johtajaksi nousun murroskautta 1980-luvun lopulta 2010-luvulle median ja politiikan vuorovaikutuksen näkökulmasta. Puolueiden johtaminen on myös Suomessa ollut miesten työtä, ja perinteisesti tehtävään on ollut yksi väylä: asettuminen ehdolle puheenjohtajavaalissa ja valituksi tulo puoluekokouksessa. Tarkastelujakson alkupuolella naisia oli Suomessa ensimmäistä kertaa ehdolla suurten puolueiden puheenjohtajavaaleissa. Kauden loppupuolella heitä myös valittiin tuohon tehtävään ja ensimmäiset naiset nousivat pääministeriksi. Tämä historiallinen murros päätti liki satavuotisen perinteen, jossa miehet ovat olleet Suomessa sekä suurten puolueiden että hallitustyön johtajia. Julkisessa keskustelussa kysymys tasa-arvosta jäi toissijaiseksi: naisia alettiin valita puoluejohtajiksi tilanteissa, joissa heidän valintansa nähtiin puolueille edulliseksi. Naisen valinta tulkittiin miehen valintaa merkittävämmäksi symboliseksi viestiksi, johon liitettiin ajatuksia uudistumisesta ja puolueen julkisuuskuvan parantamisesta. Merkille pantavaa on, että naisten ensimmäiset valinnat suurten puolueiden johtajiksi tapahtuivat vaiheessa, jossa puoluejohtajien valta-asema on vahvin kautta suomalaisen poliittisen historian. Tässä valossa näyttää siltä, että valta ei aina pakenekaan naisilta. Vaikka suomalainen yhteiskunta ja suomalaiset naiset ovat monessa mielessä olleet edelläkävijöitä tasa-arvon suhteen, politiikan johtopaikkoja tavoitelleet naiset ovat meilläkin kohdanneet kansainvälisessä tutkimuksessa naisten haasteeksi osoitettuja lasikattoja, pyöröovia ja liukkaita jyrkänteitä. Tutkittavan ajanjakson aikana konkretisoitui myös toinen mahdollinen, joskin poikkeuksellinen reitti suuren puolueen johtajaksi: pienen puolueen nouseminen suurten joukkoon eduskuntavaaleissa. Tämä vaihtoehto toteutui vuonna 2011 perussuomalaisten eduskuntavaalivoiton myötä. Perussuomalaisten nousu eduskunnan pienimmästä puolueesta kolmanneksi suurimmaksi mursi perinteisen kolmen suuren puolueen asetelman. Puolueen menestyksen seuraukset ovat olleet kauaskantoisemmat kuin ehkä ensin ajateltiin: perussuomalaisten vaalivoiton sosiaalidemokraateille, keskustalle, ja kokoomukselle aiheuttama järkytys heijastui myöhemmin myös niiden johtajavaihdoksiin ja -valintoihin. Sekä naisten läpimurrossa että populismin voittokulussa median rooli oli monisyisempi kuin siihen perinteisesti liitetty tiedon välittäjän ja valtaa pitävien toimia kriittisesti seuraavan neljännen valtiomahdin tehtävänkuva. Tutkittavalla jaksolla tiedotusvälineet tekivät onnistuneen intervention politiikan osapuoleksi. Toimittajat ottivat kantaa valintoihin ja ohjeistivat puolueita, ja puolueet taas mukauttivat näkyvyyden maksimoidakseen käytäntöjään median tarpeisiin. 1980-luvun lopulta 2010-luvulle ulottuvalla jaksolla suuren puolueen puoluejohtajaksi valikoitumisen kriteerit muuttuivat, samalla kun median merkitys johtajavalinnoissa ja myös puoluejohtajan käytännön työssä kasvoi. Mediasta tuli aiempaa konkreettisemmin johtajavalintojen ja valtakamppailun areena, ja siihen liittyvät näkökohdat nousivat myös keskeisiksi johtajan taitoja arvioitaessa. Kuka ehdokkaista toisi näkyvyyttä, ”pärjäisi” median paineissa ja vakuuttaisi äänestäjät? Vielä 1980- ja 1990-lukujen taitteessa johtajavalinnat olivat pitkälti puolueorganisaatioiden hallinnoimia prosesseja, joista lehdistö raportoi askeleen jäljessä kulkien. Viimeistään 2000-luvun ensimmäisellä vuosikymmenellä puolueet omaksuivat ajatuksen median hyödyllisyydestä. Tämän strategisen muutoksen myötä puolueet tulivat samalla luovuttaneeksi määriteltyvaltaa oman organisaationsa ulkopuolelle. Kokoomuksen vuoden 2014 johtajavaalissa silmiinpistävää oli pyrkimys sekä hyötyä julkisuudesta että palauttaa valtaa takaisin puolueelle. Politiikan mediajulkisuuden alttius tarttua myyviin poliitikkopersooniin, ilmiöihin, ristiriitoihin ja draamaan sekä vastaavasti populistijohtaja Timo Soinin ja perussuomalaisten kyky tarjota kaikkia näitä auttoivat puolueen suurvoittoon vuoden 2011 eduskuntavaaleissa. Organisaatioltaan pieni ja johtajaansa henkilöityvä puolue sai selvästi poliittista painoarvoaan suuremman julkisuuden, koska kiinnostavuus määritti näkyvyyden ja puolueen nousevasta kannatuksesta tuli yksi vaalien pääaiheista. Median ja politiikan suhteessa tapahtuneet muutokset olivat vauhdittamassa niin naisten nousua suurten puolueiden johtajiksi kuin populistisen johtajuuden läpimurtoa ja perussuomalaisten menestystä. The main purpose of the present doctoral thesis is to investigate subjective experiences and cognitive processes in four different types of altered states of consciousness: naturally occurring dreaming, cognitively induced hypnosis, pharmacologically induced sedation, and pathological psychosis. Both empirical and theoretical research is carried out, resulting in four empirical and four theoretical studies. The thesis begins with a review of the main concepts used in consciousness research, the most influential philosophical and neurobiological theories of subjective experience, the classification of altered states of consciousness, and the main empirical methods used to study consciousness alterations. Next, findings of the original studies are discussed, as follows. Phenomenal consciousness is found to be dissociable from responsiveness, as subjective experiences do occur in unresponsive states, including anaesthetic-induced sedation and natural sleep, as demonstrated by post-awakening subjective reports. Two new tools for the content analysis of subjective experiences and dreams are presented, focusing on the diversity, complexity and dynamics of phenomenal consciousness. In addition, a new experimental paradigm of serial awakenings from non-rapid eye movement sleep is introduced, which enables more rapid sampling of dream reports than has been available in previous studies. It is also suggested that lucid dreaming can be studied using transcranial brain stimulation techniques and systematic analysis of pre-lucid dreaming. For blind judges, dreams of psychotic patients appear to be indistinguishable from waking mentation reports collected from the same patients, which indicates a close resemblance of these states of mind. However, despite phenomenological similarities, dreaming should not be treated as a uniform research model of psychotic or intact consciousness. Contrary to this, there seems to be a multiplicity of routes of how different states of consciousness can be associated. For instance, seemingly identical time perception distortions in different alterations of consciousness may have diverse underlying causes for these distortions. It is also shown that altered states do not necessarily exhibit impaired cognitive processing compared to a baseline waking state of consciousness: a case study of time perception in a hypnotic virtuoso indicates a more consistent perceptual timing under hypnosis than in a waking state. The thesis ends with a brief discussion of the most promising new perspectives for the study of alterations of consciousness.

Työssä selvitetään projektimarkkinoinnissa esiintyviä haasteita projektiyrityksen näkökulmasta ja esitellään kokonaisvaltainen projektimarkkinointistrategia Caverion Industrialle. Työ toteutettiin laadullisia tutkimusmenetelmiä käyttäen, ja osana tutkimusta suoritettiin haastattelututkimus sekä sisäisesti että asiakasyrityksille. Sisäisiin haastatteluihin osallistui Caverion Industrialta 5 henkilöä, ja asiakashaastattelu suoritettiin 6:lle Caverion Industrian tärkeimmistä asiakkaista. Haastattelun tuloksia käytettiin ensisijaisena aineistona selvittämään projektimarkkinoinnin haasteita, mutta tuloksia verrattiin sisällönanalyysiä käyttäen projektimarkkinoinnista kirjoitettuun tutkimuskirjallisuuteen. Aineistojen vertailun tuloksena tutkimuksessa luotiin uusi kokonaisvaltainen projektimarkkinointistrategiamalli. Yleisesti ottaen projektiyrityksissä projektien myynnin ratkaisevana tekijänä on pidetty hintaa, eli asiakas valitsee useimmiten halvimman toimittajan. Projektimarkkinoinnissa on kuitenkin useita muita tekijöitä, joilla pystytään vaikuttamaan asiakkaan valintaprosessiin. Tutkimuksen perusteella systemaattisemmalla ja laaja-alaisemmalla projektimarkkinointistrategialla voidaan lisätä myyntiä projektitoimittajayrityksessä, mikäli strategia otetaan osaksi projektiyrityksen jokapäiväistä toimintaa.

The aim of this three phase study was to develop quality of radiotherapy care by the e-Feedback knowledge of radiotherapy -intervention (e-Re-Know). In Phase I, the purpose was to describe the quality of radiotherapy care and its deficits experienced by cancer patients. Based on the deficits in patient education in Phase II, the purpose was to describe cancer patients’ e-knowledge expectations in radiotherapy. In Phase III, the purpose was to develop and evaluate the outcomes of the e-Re-Know among breast cancer patients. The ultimate aim was to develop radiotherapy care to support patients’ empowerment with patient e-education. In Phase I (2004-2005), the descriptive design was used, and 134 radiotherapy patients evaluated their experiences by Good Nursing Care Scale for Patients (GNCS-P) in the middle of RT period. In Phase II (2006-2008), the descriptive longitudinal design was used and 100 radiotherapy patients’ e-knowledge expectations of RT were evaluated using open-ended questionnaire developed for this study before commencing first RT, in the middle of the treatment, and concluding RT period. In Phase III, firstly (2009-2010), the e-Re-Know intervention, i.e. knowledge test and feedback, was developed in terms of empowering knowledge and implemented with e-feedback approach based on literature and expert reviews. Secondly (2011-2014), the randomized controlled study was used to evaluate the e-Re-Know. Breast cancer patients randomized to either the intervention group (n=65) receiving the e-Re-Know by e-mail before commencing first RT and standard education or the control group (n=63) receiving standard education. The data were collected before commencing first RT, concluding last RT and 3 months after last RT using RT Knowledge Test, Spielberger’s State Trait Inventory (STAI) and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy - Breast (FACT-B) –instruments. Data were analyzed using statistical methods and content analysis. The study showed radiotherapy patients experienced quality of care high. However, there were deficits in patient education. Furthermore, radiotherapy patients’ multidimensional e-knowledge expectations through Internet covered mainly bio-physiological and functional knowledge. Thus, the e-Re-Know was developed and evaluated. The study showed when breast cancer patients’ carried out the e-Re-Know their knowledge of side effects self-care was significantly increased and quality of life (QOL) significantly improved in line with decrease in anxiety from time before radiotherapy period to three months after. In addition, the e-Re-Know has potential to have positive effects on anxiety and QOL, regardless of patient characteristics or knowledge level. The results support the theory of empowering patient education suggesting that empowerment can be supported by confirming patients’ understanding of own knowledge level. In summary, the e-Feedback knowledge of radiotherapy (e-Re-Know) intervention can be recommended in development of quality of radiotherapy care experienced by breast cancer patients. Further research is needed to assess and develop patient-centred quality of care by patient education among cancer patients.

Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tunnistaa organisaation sisäisiin tietäysverkostoihin ja työntekijöiden verkostorooleihin vaikuttavia tekijöitä. Tutkimusongelmaa tarkasteltiin tietojohtamisen tietoperustaisen näkemyksen, sosiaalisen pääoman ja verkostotutkimuksen teoreettisesta viitekehyksestä. Tutkimus toteutettiin tapaustutkimuksena suomalaisessa teollisuusorganisaatiossa. Tutkimuksen empiirisessä osassa käytettiin sekä kvantitatiivista että kvalitatiivista tutkimusmenetelmää. Kvantitatiivinen tutkimusaineisto kerättiin strukturoidulla kyselylomakkeella ja analysoitiin sosiaalisella verkostoanalyysillä. Kvalitatiivinen tutkimusaineisto kerättiin haastatteluilla ja analysoitiin abduktiivisesti sisällönanalyysimenetelmällä. Tutkimuksen tulosten mukaan tietämysverkostoihin ja verkostorooleihin vaikuttavat sekä ulkoiset että sisäiset tekijät. Ulkoisia tekijöitä ovat ympäristöön ja olosuhteisiin vaikuttavat tekijät. Sisäisiä tekijöitä ovat puolestaan henkilön luonteenpiirteet, osaaminen, motivaatio sekä tietämys. Tämän tutkimuksen tulosten mukaan sisäiset tekijät selittävät työntekijöiden välisiä eroja. Työntekijöiden käyttäytymiseen, motivaatioon, asenteisiin ja osaamiseen voidaan vaikuttaa henkilöstöjohtamisen menetelmillä. Ihmisen persoonallisuus sen sijaan pysyy suhteellisen muuttumattomana. Tietojohtamisen, tietämysverkostojen ja verkostoroolien aikaisemmissa tutkimuksissa ei ole kuitenkaan tarkasteltu persoonallisuuden piirteiden vaikutusta tietämyksen siirtämiseen.
