The aim of this study is to investigate volatility spillover-effect and market integration between BRIC countries. Motivated by existing literature of market integration between developed and emerging markets, we will investigate market linkages using multivariate asymmetric GARCH BEKK model. The increasing globalization of the financial markets and consequent higher volatility transfer between markets makes it more important to understand market integration between BRIC countries. We investigate the stock market integration and volatility transfer between the BRIC countries form 1998 to 2007, using daily data. The empirical results show that there are international diversification benefits among Brazil, Russia, China and India. U.S. influence to these countries has been week, even though U.S. economy has been leading the global financial markets. From Finnish point of view, diversification benefits are robust but we find some correlation with Russia and China.

Objective: The psychometric properties of The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ-Fin), a Finnish version of a brief screening instrument were studied. Emotional and behavioural problems of 7- to 15-year-olds measured by the SDQ were reported, as well as the occurrence of self-reported eating disturbance symptoms and alcohol use among adolescents. Methods and samples: The cross-sectional school survey included 25 items of the SDQ-Fin, items about eating disturbance, alchol use and child psychiatric help-seeking. The study consists of three community samples: 1. The SDQ-Fin parent (n = 703) and teacher (n = 376) versions of 7 – 12 –year-olds, and self-report versions (n = 528) of 11 – 16 years-olds were obtained, and 2. the parent (n = 81) and self-report versions of 15-16 –year olds (n = 129) were obtained in Laitila and Pyhäranta. 3. The self-report versions of 13 – 16 – year-olds (n = 1458) in Salo and Rovaniemi were obtained. Results: The psychometric properties of the SDQ-Fin were for the most part comparable with the other European SDQ research results. The internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.71 in all informants’ reports) and inter-rater reliability (between the pairs of reports r = 0.38 - 0.44) were adequate. The concurrent validity (r = 0.75 between the SDQ and the CBCL total scores; r = 0.71 between the SDQ and the YSR total scores) was sufficient. Factor analysis of the SDQ self-report generally confirmed the postulated structure for girls and boys, except for the conduct problems scale of boys, which was fused with emotional symptoms and with hyperactivity. The response rates, means and cut-off points of the SDQ self-report scores were similar to those found, e.g. in Norway and in Britain. A high level of psychological problems, especially emotional and conduct problems and hyperactivity-inattention, were associated with high level of eating disturbance symptoms and alcohol use. Conclusion: The results showed that the psychometric properties of the SDQ-Fin are adequate and provide additional confirmation of the usefulness of the SDQ-Fin for, e.g. screening, epidemiological research and clinical purposes.

Guex, KJ, Lugrin, V, Borloz, S, and Millet, GP. Influence on strength and flexibility of a swing phase-specific hamstring eccentric program in sprinters' general preparation. J Strength Cond Res 30(2): 525-532, 2016-Hamstring injuries are common in sprinters and mainly occur during the terminal swing phase. Eccentric training has been shown to reduce hamstring injury rate by improving several risk factors. The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that an additional swing phase-specific hamstring eccentric training in well-trained sprinters performed at the commencement of the winter preparation is more efficient to improve strength, ratio, optimum angle, and flexibility than a similar program without hamstring eccentric exercises. Twenty sprinters were randomly allocated to an eccentric (n = 10) or a control group (n = 10). Both groups performed their usual track and field training throughout the study period. Sprinters in the eccentric group performed an additional 6-week hamstring eccentric program, which was specific to the swing phase of the running cycle (eccentric high-load open-chain kinetic movements covering the whole hamstring length-tension relationship preformed at slow to moderate velocity). Isokinetic and flexibility measurements were performed before and after the intervention. The eccentric group increased hamstring peak torques in concentric at 60 degrees .s by 16% (p < 0.001) and at 240 degrees .s by 10% (p < 0.01), in eccentric at 30 degrees .s by 20% (p < 0.001) and at 120 degrees .s by 22% (p < 0.001), conventional and functional ratios by 12% (p < 0.001), and flexibility by 4 degrees (p < 0.01), whereas the control group increased hamstring peak torques only in eccentric at 30 degrees .s by 6% (p </= 0.05) and at 120 degrees .s by 6% (p < 0.01). It was concluded that an additional swing phase-specific hamstring eccentric training in sprinters seems to be crucial to address different risk factors for hamstring strain injuries, such as eccentric and concentric strength, hamstring-to-quadriceps ratio ratio, and flexibility.

PURPOSE: Slight physiological differences between acute exposure in normobaric hypoxia (NH) and hypobaric hypoxia (HH) have been reported. Taken together, these differences suggest different physiological responses to hypoxic exposure to a simulated altitude (NH) versus a terrestrial altitude (HH). For this purpose, in the present study, we aimed to directly compare the time-trial performance after acute hypoxia exposure (26 h, 3450 min) by the same subjects under three different conditions: NH, HH, and normobaric normoxia (NN). Based on all of the preceding studies examining the differences among these hypoxic conditions, we hypothesized greater performance impairment in HH than in NH. METHODS: The experimental design consisted of three sessions: NN (Sion: FiO2, 20.93), NH (Sion, hypoxic room: FiO2, 13.6%; barometric pressure, 716 mm Hg), and HH (Jungfraujoch: FiO2, 20.93; barometric pressure, 481 mm Hg). The performance was evaluated at the end of each session with a cycle time trial of 250 kJ. RESULTS: The mean time trial duration in NN was significantly shorter than under the two hypoxic conditions (P < 0.001). In addition, the mean duration in NH was significantly shorter than that in HH (P < 0.01). The mean pulse oxygen saturation during the time trial was significantly lower for HH than for NH (P < 0.05), and it was significantly higher in NN than for the two other sessions (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: As previously suggested, HH seems to be a more stressful stimulus, and NH and HH should not be used interchangeability when endurance performance is the main objective. The principal factor in this performance difference between hypoxic conditions seemed to be the lower peripheral oxygen saturation in HH at rest, as well as during exercise.

This article introduces a simplified model for the theoretical study of the physical adsorption process of gaseous He on the planes (100) and (111) of the solid Xe matrix, whose crystalline structure is face centered cubic (fcc). The Ab initio calculations were carried out at the MP2 level of theory employing basis sets obtained through the Generator Coordinate Method, where the core electrons were represented by a pseudopotential. The calculated adsorption energies for the (100) and (111) faces are 5,39 and 4,18 kJ/mol, respectively. This simplified model is expected to be suitable for treating complex systems of applied interest.

The strength properties of paper coating layer are very important in converting and printing operations. Too great or low strength of the coating can affect several problems in printing. One of the problems caused by the strength of coating is the cracking at the fold. After printing the paper is folded to final form and the pages are stapled together. In folding the paper coating can crack causing aesthetic damage over printed image or in the worst case the centre sheet can fall off in stapling. When folding the paper other side undergoes tensile stresses and the other side compressive stresses. If the difference between these stresses is too high, the coating can crack on the folding. To better predict and prevent cracking at the fold it is good to know the strength properties of coating layer. It has measured earlier the tensile strength of coating layer but not the compressive strength. In this study it was tried to find some way to measure the compressive strength of the coating layer and investigate how different coatings behave in compression. It was used the short span crush test, which is used to measure the in-plane compressive strength of paperboards, to measure the compressive strength of the coating layer. In this method the free span of the specimen is very small which prevent buckling. It was measured the compressive strength of free coating films as well as coated paper. It was also measured the tensile strength and the Bendtsen air permeance of the coating film. The results showed that the shape of pigment has a great effect to the strength of coating. Platy pigment gave much better strength than round or needle-like pigment. On the other hand calcined kaolin, which is also platy but the particles are aggregated, decreased the strength substantially. The difference in the strength can be explained with packing of the particles which is affecting to the porosity and thus to the strength. The platy kaolin packs up much better than others and creates less porous structure. The results also showed that the binder properties have a great effect to the compressive strength of coating layer. The amount of latex and the glass transition temperature, Tg, affect to the strength. As the amount of latex is increasing, the strength of coating is increasing also. Larger amount of latex is binding the pigment particles better together and decreasing the porosity. Compressive strength was increasing when the Tg was increasing because the hard latex gives a stiffer and less elastic film than soft latex.

Porous silicon (PSi) is a promising material to be utilized in drug delivery formulations. The release rate of the drug compound can be controlled by changing the pore properties and surface chemistry of PSi. The loading of a poorly soluble drug into mesoporous silicon particles enhances its dissolution in the body. The drug loading is based on adsorption. The attainable maximum loaded amount depends on the properties of the drug compound and the PSi material, and on the process conditions. The loading solvent also essentially affects the adsorption process. The loading of indomethacin into PSi particles with varying surface modification was studied. Solvent mixtures were applied in the loading, and the loaded samples were analyzed with thermal analysis methods. The best degree of loading was obtained using a mixture of dichloromethane and methanol. The drug loads varied from 7.7 w-% to 26.8 w-%. A disturbing factor in the loading experiments was the tendency of indomethacin to form solvates with the solvents applied. In addition, the physical form and stability of indomethacin loaded in PSi and silica particles were studied using Raman spectroscopy. In the case of silica, the presence of crystalline drug as well as the polymorph form can be detected, but the method proved to be not applicable for PSi particles.

Inventory data management is defined as an accurate creation and maintenance of item master data, inventory location data and inventory balances per an inventory location. The accuracy of inventory data is dependent of many elements of the product data management like the management of changes during a component’s life-cycle and the accuracy of product configuration in enterprise resource planning systems. Cycle-counting is counting of inventory balances per an inventory location and comparing them to the system data on a daily basis. The Cycle-counting process is a way to measure the accuracy of the inventory data in a company. Through well managed cycle-counting process a company gets a lot of information of their inventory data accuracy. General inaccuracy of the inventory data can’t be fixed through only assigning resources to the cycle-counting but the change requires disciplined following of the defined processes from all parties involved in updating inventory data through a component’s life-cycle. The Processes affecting inventory data are mapped and the appropriate metrics are defined in order to achieve better manageability of the inventory data. The Life-cycles of a single component and of a product are used in evaluation of the processes.

The calorimetric experiments based on technique breaking ampoule were carried out by measuring of the heat of solution of alcohol in isotonic solution (NaCl 0.10 M) and alcohol in suspension of Sc at 298 K. From these data the enthalpy of interaction alcohol with suspension of Sc (DtrsH°) was calculate by Hess law. In this study, the results indicate that the enthalpy of interaction of aliphatic alcohol (C2-C8) with suspensions of Sc is a process exothermic and becomes more exothermic with increasing of -CH2 group of alcohol in range -1,14 to -4,0 kJ.mol-1. We concluded that enthalpy of interaction shows a linear relationship with increasing of alcohol's lipophilicity, in agreement with Traube's rule.

Diplomityö tehtiin Patria Land & Armament Oy:n toimeksiannosta. Patria Land & Armament Oy:n tuotteisiin kuuluvat vaativiin maasto-olosuhteisiin soveltuvat sotilasajoneuvot. Tuotesuunnittelussa otetaan huomioon ajoneuvon koko elinkaari, joten väsymismitoitus ja kestoikäanalyysit ovat suunnittelun tärkeitä osa-alueita. Kestoikäanalyysit ovat perinteisesti pohjautuneet mittausten avulla määritettyyn jännityshistoriaan. Työn tavoitteena oli tutkia tietokonesimuloinnin soveltuvuutta maastoajoneuvon jännityshistorian määrittämiseen. Selvityksen perusteella muodostettiin kohdeyrityksen tarpeisiin soveltuva ja kestoikäanalyysiä helpottava simulointiympäristö. Tietokonesimuloinnin tuloksien tarkkuutta tutkittiin mittaamalla todellisen ajoneuvon käyttäytymistä. Simulointiympäristö toteutettiin analysoimalla joustavia kappaleita ADAMS dynamiikkaohjelmistolla. Kappaleiden joustavuus mallinnettiin kelluvan koordinaatiston menetelmällä ja siihen käytettiin PATRAN/NASTRAN elementtimenetelmäohjelmistoa. Simulointiympäristön toimivuus testattiin case-esimerkin avulla. Esimerkissä tutkittiin AMV:n alatukivarren rasituksia. Tuloksista havaittiin, että simuloimalla on mahdollista tuottaa maastoajoneuvon rakenteiden jännityshistoria. Eri parametrien tutkiminen onnistuu vaivattomasti, mutta simuloimalla määritetyn kestoiän absoluuttisiin arvoihin tulee suhtautua varauksella.

By using DSC data, the enthaplies of sublimation for ethyleneurea and propyleneurea, are calculated as 84 and 89 kJ mol-1 respectively. Using the vaporization enthalpy values for dimethylethyleneurea and dimethylprophyleneurea, as obtained from literature, the empirical relation: Dcrg Hmo (1)/ Dcrg Hmo (2) = Dlg Hmo (1)/ Dlg Hmo(2) = constant, that relate sublimation or vaporization enthalpies of two different substances and of its methylated derivatives, is obtained. Correlations like that are found to another ureas and thioureas.
