El trabajo se centra en el análisis de los pecados relacionados con el dinero en el Inferno de Dante y en la primera traducción castellana de la primera cantiga de la Commedia, obra del arcediano de Burgos Pedro Fernández de Villegas. La traducción, compuesta en coplas de arte mayor y acompañada de un enciclopédico comentario, se publicó en 1515. Particular atención se dedica a la reflexión sobre el problema del mal uso del dinero que Villegas desarrolla en la glosa de los cantos en que con más vigor se levanta la voz de Dante para denunciar la gravedad del pecado de la sed de riquezas. Se analiza la postura del traductor español ante el tema comparándola no sólo con la de Dante sino también con la de Cristoforo Landino, autor del Comento sopra la Comedia, obra exégetica que se publicó por primera vez en Florencia en 1481 y que representó el punto de referencia privilegiado de Villegas.

Many 16th century Spanish chroniclers and missionaries, arriving at what they interpreted as a New World, saw the Devil as a “hermeneutic wildcard” that allowed them to comprehend indigenous religions. Pedro Cieza de León, a soldier in the conquest of Peru, is a case in point. Cieza considers the Devil responsible for the most aberrant religious practices and customs of the Indians, although he views the natives in a positive light, as men susceptible to divine salvation. From a providentialist perspective of the history of the conquest, Cieza interprets that the evangelization and conversion of the Indians and the implantation of Christian civilization by the Spanish Crown, were able to defeat the Devil.

El presente trabajo tiene por objeto presentar la primera aproximación a las relaciones interétnicas en el escenario del Fuerte San José y el Puesto de la Fuente, desde una perspectiva histórica y arqueológica. En particular, presentaremos los primeros resultados de las investigaciones históricas respecto de la problemática mencionada, sobre la base de información inédita analizada hasta el momento. Para ello nos centraremos en los primeros diez años de vida en el Fuerte (1779-1789) y estableceremos una comparación con los otros dos asentamientos que formaron parte del plan de poblamiento español de las costa patagónica (siglo XVIII): el Fuerte Nuestra Señora del Carmen y la Nueva Colonia de Floridablanca, a los efectos de destacar la particularidad del Fuerte San José en el marco de la variabilidad de la estructuración de las relaciones interétnicas en las colonias patagónicas.

En esta Tesis Doctoral se estudian la pasificación de las uvas Pedro Ximénez y Tempranillo, y la obtención de vinos dulces de uvas Tempranillo pasificadas. Durante la pasificación aumentan los azúcares, el pH, la acidez titulable y la acidez volátil. Los compuestos con aroma herbáceo disminuyen y los de aroma a fruta madura aumentan. En Tempranillo también aumentan los aromas especiados y a hierba seca. La nariz electrónica se revela como herramienta de análisis rápida y sencilla para decidir el punto óptimo de pasificación en función de la composición volátil. Parece existir un óptimo de pasificación sobre el 25% de deshidratación. La composición fenólica y la actividad antioxidante de mostos aumentan con la pasificación, mientras que disminuyen en los hollejos. Los valores de ambas variables son superiores en Tempranillo. En Pedro Ximénez la fracción más influyente varía durante la pasificación, siendo al final de la misma la correspondiente a las procianidinas poliméricas. En Tempranillo son los antocianos los que más contribuyen a la actividad antioxidante. Los ensayos in vitro con Pedro Ximénez demuestran que tanto los mostos como sus extractos fenólicos protegen al ADN, a lípidos, azúcares y proteínas de la oxidación provocada por distintos radicales libres. Los ensayos in vivo manifiestan que la incubación de las levadura con los mostos de uvas Pedro Ximénez y Tempranillo pasificadas, les confiere un claro efecto protector frente al estrés oxidativo. Efecto que aumenta con el grado de pasificación. Los hollejos de la variedad Tempranillo se han mostrado más efectivos que los mostos en esta protección. El contenido en compuestos volátiles es mayor en los vinos dulces de uvas Tempranillo pasificadas obtenidos por fermentación parcial que en los elaborados por el método tradicional, siendo también los mejor valorados organolépticamente.

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo en 105 pacientes ingresados con diagnóstico de cáncer de próstata, en el serivicio de urología del H. José Carrasco Arteaga en los años 2003-2007. Se utilizó para la recolección de datos el cuestionario. Se encontró que la edad de la mayoría de los pacientes, oscila entre 70 a 79 años: 35.2promedio de 73 años y desvio estándar de 11,12, la raza mestiza predomina con un 99y el nivel de instrucción primaria es de 66.7. Pocos de ellos tienen antecedentes familiares de cáncer de próstata, tan solo un 4.8, tampoco se han expuesto a químicos 80, aunque cierto número ha estado en contacto con pesticidas 13.3, pinturas 4.8y lubricantes 1.9, la mayoría no realiza ejercicio físico 99, y el 97.1consumen una dieta hidrocarbonada

Con el objeto de probar el efecto de la analgesia preventiva, un concepto que viene siendo difundido en los últimos años para tratar el dolor agudo postoperatorio, se realizó un estudio clínico controlado aleatorizado a simple ciego de 92 pacientes ASA I-II sometidos a colecistectomía laparoscópica bajo anestesia general balanceada. Se asignaron 2 grupos de 46 pacientes cada uno, ambos recibieron una asociación de tramadol 1 mg.kg -1+Ketoprofeno 1 mg.kg -1. El gruo PRE 30 minutos antes de la incisión guirúrgica y el grupo POS al finalizar la intervención. Se midio el efecto del tratamiento según los requerimientos de analgesia suplementaria en 48 horas de postoperatorio. Los grupos fueron comparables en sus variables demográficas y en las variables hemodinámicas de la pre y posanestesia. La diferencia en los requerimientos analgésicos por número y promedio de dosis de ketoprofeno administrado en el período de control [PRE 263.04 más menos 82.62 mg vs POS 258.7 más menos 77.68 mg] no fue estadísticamente significativa [P mayor 0.05]. La incidencia de náusea y vómito postoperatorio fue mayor para el grupo POS=0.016]

O Museu do Território, descentralizado e polinucleado, sediado no Museu Maria da Fontinha, compreende 50 núcleos, de diversificados patrimónios: geológico (Geoparque de Arouca), arqueológico (castros, dólmens ou orcas) religioso (mosteiros, igrejas e ermidas), histórico, gastronómico, paisagístico, artístico, musical e do "saber fazer". Pretende-se a preservação de identidades, memórias, patrimónios, tangíveis e intangíveis, garantindo a auto-estima das populações abrangidas, buscando sempre um desenvolvimento, um ambiente e um turismo sustentáveis, para acréscimo da melhoria económica e social. Respeitar-se-ão sempre os princípios da museologia. O presente trabalho/dissertação descreve com algum pormenor a transformação da Casa-Museu Maria da Fontinha, com 26 anos de existência, em Museu Maria da Fontinha. O Museu abrange territórios de 28 freguesias dos Municípios de Arouca, Castro Daire, São Pedro do Sul e Vila Nova de Paiva. ABSTRACT: The Museum of the Territory, decentralized and polynucleated, based in the Museum of Maria da Fontinha, includes 50 centres of diverse heritages: geological (Geoparque of Arouca), archaeological (castors, dolmens or orcas), religious (monasteries, churches and hermitages), history, food, landscape, artistic, musical and know-how. It wishes the protection of identities, memories and tangible and intangible heritages, and thus ensuring the self-esteem of the populations concerned, proceeding with the development, the environment and the sustainable tourism, to achieve better economic and social improvement, always respecting the museology principles. The principales of museology will always be respected. The present work thesis describes in detail the transformation of Casa­Museu Maria da Fontinha, with its 26 years of existence, into Museu Maria da Fontinha. The Museum covers areas of 28 parishes of the Arouca, Castro Daire, São Pedro do Sul and Vila Nova de Paiva Municipalities.

Los nuevos datos de sísmica de reflexión multicanal 2D adquiridos en la Cuenca de San Pedro (margen sudeste de la República Dominicana), junto con antiguos perfiles sísmicos reprocesados, han permitido llevar a cabo un detallado análisis y revisión de la estratigrafía sísmica. Los nuevos datos sísmicos aportan nuevas precisiones sobre la evolución de la cuenca sugiriendo un origen de al menos Eoceno Superior, en lugar de Mioceno. La nueva interpretación se basa en la correlación onshore-offshore de un nivel guía de abanicos bien desarrollado, con los eventos tectónicos constreñidos tierra y asociados a la colisión con los Bancos de las Bahamas con el arco isla el Eoceno Medio.

Por meio da composição do novo romance Galantes memórias e admiráveis aventuras do virtuoso conselheiro Gomes, o Chalaça (1994), de José Roberto Torero, apresenta-se a vida de Francisco Gomes da Silva que, enquanto narrador de sua própria história, expõe sua participação em grandes momentos da história do Brasil. Esta retomada do passado dá-se sob a visão de quem exercia o posto de secretário pessoal de D. Pedro I. Subordinado a este ponto de vista interno aos eventos históricos, a imagem deste que se tornaria Imperador do Brasil é configurada por meio da utilização dos recursos bakhtinianos da paródia e da carnavalização. A visão intradiegética é possível devido à proximidade entre Francisco Gomes e o príncipe. Tal empresa é romanescamente motivada pelo anseio de desconstruir as imagens cristalizadas e tradicionalmente conhecidas da realeza e de eventos como, por exemplo, a proclamação da independência (1822); é a releitura crítica da história que o novo romance histórico propõe, e que no romance de Torero se mescla às premissas da picaresca espanhola, sendo Francisco Gomes da Silva o exemplo de pícaro que anseia pela ascensão social e cuja vida e história sempre ficam a margem. O Chalaça é uma personagem que realmente existiu, mas que a história oficial não fez questão de lembrar, já que ele não conduzia o imperador às ditas ações edificantes, mas sim, à picardias e aventuras extra-conjugais. Assim, objetivamos analisar a construção discursiva de D. Pedro I sob um novo foco, que aponta para a Literatura como leitora privilegiada dos signos da história.

What is the secret mesmerism that death possesses and under the operation of which a modern architect – strident, confident, resolute – becomes rueful, pessimistic, or melancholic?1 Five years before Le Corbusier’s death at sea in 1965, the architect reluctantly agreed to adopt the project for L’Église Saint-Pierre de Firminy in Firminy-Vert (1960–2006), following the death of its original architect, André Sive, from leukemia in 1958.2 Le Corbusier had already developed, in 1956, the plan for an enclave in the new “green” Firminy town, which included his youth and culture center and a stadium and swimming pool; the church and a “boîte à miracles” near the youth center were inserted into the plan in the ’60s. (Le Corbusier was also invited, in 1962, to produce another plan for three Unités d’Habitation outside Firminy-Vert.) The Saint-Pierre church should have been the zenith of the quartet (the largest urban concentration of works by Le Corbusier in Europe, and what the architect Henri Ciriani termed Le Corbusier’s “acropolis”3) but in the early course of the project, Le Corbusier would suffer the diocese’s serial objections to his vision for the church – not unlike the difficulties he experienced with Notre Dame du Haut at Ronchamp (1950–1954) and the resistance to his proposed monastery of Sainte-Marie de la Tourette (1957–1960). In 1964, the bishop of Saint-Étienne requested that Le Corbusier relocate the church to a new site, but Le Corbusier refused and the diocese subsequently withdrew from the project. (With neither the approval, funds, nor the participation of the bishop, by then the cardinal archbishop of Lyon, the first stone of the church was finally laid on the site in 1970.) Le Corbusier’s ambivalence toward the project, even prior to his quarrels with the bishop, reveals...

In 2011 Queensland suffered both floods and cyclones, leaving residents without homes and their communities in ruins (2011). This paper presents how researchers from QUT, who are also members of the Oral History Association of Australia (OHAA) Queensland’s chapter, are using oral history, photographs, videography and digital storytelling to help heal and empower rural communities around the state and how evaluation has become a key element of our research. QUT researchers ran storytelling workshops in the capital city of Brisbane i early 2011, after the city suffered sever flooding. Cyclone Yasi then struck the town of Cardwell (in February 2011) destroying their historical museum and recording equipment. We delivered an 'emergency workshop', offering participants hands on use of the equipment, ethical and interviewing theory, so that the community could start to build a new collection. We included oral history workshops as well as sessions on how best to use a video camera, digital camera and creative writing sessions, so the community would also know how to make 'products' or exhibition pieces out of the interviews they were recording. We returned six months later to conduct follow-up workshops and the material produced by and with the community had been amazing. More funding has now been secured to replicate audio/visual/writing workshops in other remote rural Queensland communities including Townsville, Mackay and Cunnamulla and Toowoomba in 2012, highlighting the need for a multi media approach, to leverage the most out of OH interviews as a mechanism to restore and promote community resilience and pride.

This work examines the urban modernization of San José, Costa Rica, between 1880 and 1930, using a cultural approach to trace the emergence of the bourgeois city in a small Central American capital, within the context of order and progress. As proposed by Henri Lefebvre, Manuel Castells and Edward Soja, space is given its rightful place as protagonist. The city, subject of this study, is explored as a seat of social power and as the embodiment of a cultural transformation that took shape in that space, a transformation spearheaded by the dominant social group, the Liberal elite. An analysis of the product built environment allows us to understand why the city grew in a determined manner: how the urban space became organized and how its infrastructure and services distributed. Although the emphasis is on the Liberal heyday from 1880-1930, this study also examines the history of the city since its origins in the late colonial period through its consolidation as a capital during the independent era, in order to characterize the nineteenth century colonial city that prevailed up to 1890 s. A diverse array of primary sources including official acts, memoirs, newspaper sources, maps and plans, photographs, and travelogues are used to study the initial phase of San Jose s urban growth. The investigation places the first period of modern urban growth at the turn of the nineteenth century within the prevailing ideological and political context of Positivism and Liberalism. The ideas of the city s elite regarding progress were translated into and reflected in the physical transformation of the city and in the social construction of space. Not only the transformations but also the limits and contradictions of the process of urban change are examined. At the same time, the reorganization of the city s physical space and the beginnings of the ensanche are studied. Hygiene as an engine of urban renovation is explored by studying the period s new public infrastructure (including pipelines, sewer systems, and the use of asphalt pavement) as part of the Saneamiento of San José. The modernization of public space is analyzed through a study of the first parks, boulevards and monuments and the emergence of a new urban culture prominently displayed in these green spaces. Parks and boulevards were new public and secular places of power within the modern city, used by the elite to display and educate the urban population into the new civic and secular traditions. The study goes on to explore the idealized image of the modern city through an analysis of European and North American travelogues and photography. The new esthetic of theatrical-spectacular representation of the modern city constructed a visual guide of how to understand and come to know the city. A partial and selective image of generalized urban change presented only the bourgeois facade and excluded everything that challenged the idea of progress. The enduring patterns of spatial and symbolic exclusion built into Costa Rica s capital city at the dawn of the twentieth century shed important light on the long-term political social and cultural processes that have created the troubled urban landscapes of contemporary Latin America.
