Song of the sea: proposta di sottotitolaggio e fansubbing a confronto

The aim of this thesis is to subtitle and analyze the subtitles of the animation movie directed by the Tomm Moore, Song of the Sea. It deals with the adventures of Saoirse, the last of the selkies, the mythological women who turned into seals, and his brother Ben to save the fairies and send them home. Although Italy is a “dubbing country”, I decided to subtitle the film not to affect the original audio track, as the Irish accent and Celtic melodies are a fundamental element in Song of the Sea. I chose this movie because it is a quality product (nominated in 2015 for "The Best Animation Movie”) which deserves to be commercialized outside film festivals. In a second phase, I analyzed my subtitles and compared them to amateur subtitles, created by the SRT Project group, to understand the strategies adopted and the basic differences between the two types of subtitling. My dissertation consists of three chapters. The first provides a general overview of audiovisual translation and language transfer methods, focusing on subtitling. The second chapter introduces the movie in an Irish context, and then analyzes the subtitling process, from the software used, to the translation strategies adopted. Finally, the third chapter describes the phenomenon of amateur subtitling, and the most important Italian communities of the current years. Moreover, I analyzed SRT Project fan translation, and asked them a set of questions about amateur subtitling and the translation of Song of the Sea, in order to understand this world and the fansubbing process. The Appendix includes my subtitles, as well as the questionnaire.

La traduzione audiovisiva per Concorto Film Festival: proposta di sottotitolaggio di due cortometraggi

The idea behind this thesis stems from the internship in translation and subtitling performed from April to August 2021 for the international short film festival Concorto Film Festival. This internship program provides selected students with the opportunity to put the translation skills acquired in their bachelor’s degree to the test, by adapting them to the needs of audiovisual translation. Film directors provide files with English subtitles, which interns turn into new, bilingual (ita-eng) subtitle files with the software Subtitle Workshop. The new bilingual files are eventually used for the screening of the films and need therefore to comply with the guidelines established by Concorto Film Festival. Using as a case study the subtitles created for the two German short films “Der natürliche Tod der Maus” (“The Natural Death of a Mouse”) (2020) by Katharina Huber and “Wenn ich tanze, wackelt die Welt” (“When I Dance, the Earth Trembles”) (2020) by Otto Lazić-Reuschel, this thesis examines subtitling as an application of the practice of translation. The first chapter introduces Concorto Film Festival, the two selected short films and their directors. The second chapter briefly introduces audiovisual translation and describes the needs and features of subtitling. The third chapter analyses the strategies that have been adopted to solve the technical problems mentioned in the second chapter and the translative problems posed by linguistic and cultural elements. Finally, the file attached to this thesis includes the Italian and English subtitles of the two short films and the transcript of the original German audio.

Proposta di sottotitolazione della serie spagnola "El tiempo entre costuras": tra romanzo e televisione.

Questo elaborato si specializza nell'ambito della traduzione multimediale, un campo che a mio parere, risalta lo sviluppo tecnologico e sociale del nostro tempo. Nello specifico, ho focalizzato la mia attenzione sul sottotitolaggio di un frammento della seconda puntata di una serie televisiva spagnola dal titolo "El tiempo entre costuras". Tale serie è tratta da un romanzo spagnolo di successo dallo stesso titolo, dell'autrice María Dueñas. Il mio elaborato perciò, tratterà delineare un confronto di tipo linguistico e traduttivo fra la versione letteraria del romanzo e il sottotitolaggio correlato della serie. L'elaborato si suddivide in tre capitoli che trattano in maniera sistematica il processo lavorativo che ho deciso di seguire. Il primo capitolo riguarda la descrizione della serie televisiva trattata e allo stesso tempo una presentazione del romanzo cui si ispira. In altre parole, una panoramica del contesto storico, culturale, sociale e linguistico di queste due opere e dei loro risvolti traduttivi. Il secondo capitolo affronta in maniera generale il tema della traduzione audiovisiva, la sua evoluzione nel tempo, l'importanza di questa nella società odierna, in modo particolare del sottotitolaggio in Italia. Inoltre, si vuole anche trattare il tema della traduzione intersemiotica, cioè l’azione di trasportare un romanzo a livello multimediale e il relativo regolamento del processo traduttivo.Infine, il terzo capitolo è dedicato al confronto delle due realtà di traduzione, quella letterale e quella multimediale e soprattutto alle differenze che esistono tra i due processi linguistici e alle particolarità culturali della lingua spagnola con rispetto a quella italiana.

Proposta di traduzione del fumetto “>>” di Oleg Tiščenkov

L'elaborato consiste in una proposta di traduzione del libro “>>”. Si tratta di una raccolta di vignette di Oleg Tiščenkov, disegnatore e fumettista ormai affermato in Russia. La traduzione è introdotta da una breve panoramica sulla storia del fumetto in questo Paese e da una presentazione dell’autore e della sua opera. Segue un commento nel quale si dà una definizione di fumetto come testo multimediale e si affrontano sinteticamente le principali difficoltà che presenta tale genere testuale a livello traduttivo. A partire dagli aspetti generali della questione, si passa poi a una riflessione più dettagliata sulle problematiche del testo scelto.

Proposta di traduzione in francese di parte del sito web "www.Turismo.Ra.It"

Questo elaborato finale analizza la mia proposta di traduzione di parte del sito internet www.turismo.ra.it. Ho intrapreso la traduzione delle pagine di questo sito nel quadro di una collaborazione volontaria con il Comune di Ravenna; anche il mio tirocinio curricolare si è concentrato sulla traduzione del sito. Ho deciso dunque di articolare la tesi come segue: il primo capitolo, si concentra sulla teoria dei siti internet e sulla loro organizzazione, focalizzando l’interesse sulle modalità di scrittura sul web, mentre il secondo capitolo tratta l’analisi del sito, ponendo particolare attenzione alla sua struttura. La mia proposta di traduzione segue poi nel terzo capitolo, mentre nel quarto offro una possibile analisi dei testi tradotti, con commenti relativi agli aspetti linguistici e alle difficoltà riscontrate, e analizzando la memoria di traduzione da me creata nel corso della mia attività. L’elaborato si conclude con alcune mie considerazioni finali circa l’attività svolta, e la bibliografia, con annessa sitografia, da me consultate per lo svolgimento del mio lavoro di ricerca.

Graphic news: La nuova frontiera del fumetto, proposta di traduzione

Il presente elaborato si prefigge lo scopo di proporre una traduzione in francese di cinque fumetti di giornalismo a fumetti da pubblicare su un’ipotetica versione localizzata del sito http://graphic-news.com/. Si tratta di un sito di informazione a fumetti, che combina due grandi rivoluzione del fumetto: il fumetto digitale e il graphic journalism. Si cercherà di definire il fumetto in quanto linguaggio formato dall’interazione fra codice visivo e codice verbale, se ne traccerà la storia dalle sue origini fino agli sviluppi più recenti per individuare l’evoluzione che ha portato alla nascita del fumetto digitale, di cui saranno analizzate le principali caratteristiche insieme a una panoramica sul graphic journalism, un genere che ha permesso al fumetto di emanciparsi dalla sua nomea di letteratura per l’infanzia. In seguito, ci si concentrerà sull'ambiente digitale che accoglierà le traduzioni dei fumetti: si fornirà perciò una descrizione dell’organizzazione del sito e una sua analisi semiotica. Infine, si passeranno in rassegna le caratteristiche generali della traduzione dei fumetti con le sue specificità e si proporrà la traduzione dei cinque fumetti con relativo commento delle maggiori difficoltà incontrate nel processo di traduzione con un’attenzione particolare per i principali aspetti problematici legati all'interazione fra testo e immagini.

L'elaborato contiene l'analisi di un video promozionale turistico in portoghese, intitolato "Portugal, um país sem fim", e la relativa proposta di sottotitolaggio in italiano. Esso è strutturato in diversi capitoli che contengono cenni alla situazione turistica in Portogallo, la storia della traduzione audiovisiva e le sue caratteristiche, l'analisi del video dal punto di vista del contenuto e della forma, una spiegazione della metodologia utilizzata e la proposta di sottotitolaggio con relativo commento.

Proposta di sottotitolaggio di un episodio della serie televisiva "Peaky Blinders"

Con questo elaborato si è voluto analizzare un episodio della serie televisiva britannica Peaky Blinders e farne una proposta di traduzione in forma di sottotitolaggio. L’elaborato è stato diviso in tre macro-capitoli. Nel primo macro-capitolo vengono analizzati la traduzione audiovisiva e il sottotitolaggio, nel secondo viene contestualizzata la serie televisiva, riassunto l’episodio che è stato sottotitolato ed esposto l’accento “Brummie”. L’ultimo macro-capitolo è dedicato al commento alla traduzione, in cui vengono discusse le difficoltà riscontrate nella realizzazione dei sottotitoli e le soluzioni che sono state adottate.

What's so funny? An evaluation of the relations among humour use, mirth, and depressive symptomatology

Humour production and showing mirth (i.e., smiling and laughing) confer prosocial advantages. However, there is a paucity of literature evaluating how humour manifests in psychopathology. Humour and mirth may be especially relevant in depression, wherein profound impairments are evident in emotional and social functioning. Chapters 2 and 3 present correlational and predictive relations of depressive, social anxiety, and social anhedonia symptoms with humour styles, and consider the role of motivational systems and expressivity of positive affect as they relate to humour. As expected, symptoms and avoidance-based motivation were positively related to maladaptive humour styles and negatively related to adaptive humour styles. Interestingly, the pattern of relations shifted when considered among individuals in a depressive episode; acutely depressed individuals generally shy away from any humour style rather than gravitating toward specific styles. In a mediation model, the inverse relation between depressive symptoms and affiliative humour was fully mediated by approach-based motivation and expressivity of positive emotions. Chapters 4 and 5 examined subjective and observed mirth responses (facial affect and laughter) demonstrated by depressed and healthy comparison groups. Relative to non-depressed individuals, depressed persons reported less enjoyment, lower ratings of funniness, and fewer instances and shorter durations of positive facial affect and laughter when viewing humourous videos. There was no significant change in retrospective ratings of enjoyment and funniness at a one-week follow-up. The pattern of responsivity by depressed persons shifted when they viewed humourous videos while hearing others laughing. Both groups demonstrated more mirth when hearing others laugh; there were no differences between groups on mirthful behaviours. The one exception was that the total duration of laugher produced by depressed individuals was shorter than that produced by individuals in the healthy comparison group. This research project demonstrates that facets of depressive symptomatology are differentially associated with humour use and depressed individuals show blunted emotional responsivity to humourous stimuli. However, the pattern of reduced affective responsivity is context specific in that it fluctuates in response to hearing others’ laughter. These findings have important implications for the conceptualization of depression and the subsequent avenues for the treatment of individuals with depression.

Agora Nós: a audiência e os programas televisivos do canal público

A televisão do século xx e da primeira década do século XXI não foi uma televisão do espectador. A neotelevisão veio acabar com a ligação unidireccional que a paleotelevisão mantinha com o telespectador, criando uma maior proximidade devido às semelhanças com o quotidiano do individuo. O talk-show, o género televisivo mais popular na América nos anos 90, é frequentemente a principal companhia e fonte de informação para milhares de espectadores. O talk-show alia informação ao entretenimento através do talk, com entrevistas entre convidado e apresentador intercaladas por momentos de humor e música, o show. O sucesso de um talk-show é observável pela audiência registada, uma vez que as emissões são feitas de acordo com o perfil do público que assiste televisão nesse determinado período. Em Portugal, o entretenimento representado pela ficção e pelos programas recreativos, ocupa uma grande parte da grelha de programação da televisão generalista. Na RTP, vários foram os talk-shows que serviram de modelo para outros programas pela forma peculiar e inovadora com que se apresentaram, como é o caso do Praça da Alegria. Em 2014, a renovação das manhãs da RTP foi assinalada pela estreia do Agora Nós, um talk-show com incidência nas histórias de vida do cidadão comum. Estas histórias tornam-se exemplos de vida para os espectadores, aproximando-os e identificando-os com o programa. O Agora Nós está inserido num canal de serviço público e, portanto, deve assegurar conteúdos variados, de referência e qualidade, com valorização cultural, económica e educacional que corresponda às necessidades e interesses do público.

Breaking the Cycle

A radio program requires several creation and work stages before it can be aired on a radio station. It is very important to begin with a defined concept that can be presented to media. Breaking the Cycle will be a radio talk show designed to feature lifestyle subjects. This document will expose all the production phases of the program, including the complete presentation of the edition on obesity, which is the pilot program. Together with detailed format information, the reader will find all the elements necessary in order to produce this radio product, such as work team, budget, technical completion and more. The information gathered in this document can work as a program proposal, in order to sell the show to any radio media organization suitable for the format. In addition to this written presentation, this project includes a recorded audio pilot that features the final product of Breaking the Cycle¿s concept.
