Nykypäivänä energiansäästötavoitteet ovat haasteena yhä useammalle energiankuluttajalle. Tavoitteisiin päästäkseen yritykset ja kunnalliset energiankuluttajat kaipaavat usein apua kannattavien energiansäätökeinojen löytämiseksi. Erilaiset energiakatselmukset vastaavat tähän tarpeeseen ja ovat esimerkki tuloksellisesta energiansäästöstä. Lappeenrannan teknillinen yliopisto on tutkinut energiatehokkuutta pitkään erilaisissa projekteissa teollisuuden kanssa yhteistyössä. Osa LUT:n energiatehokkuustutkimusta ovat energia-auditoinnit yrityksille ja kunnille, joita LUT Energian projektin puitteissa alettiin kehittää vuoden 2008 syksyllä. Energia-auditointien fokuksena on pyritty pitämään pumppausprosessien energiatehokkuuden optimointia, sillä aihetta on tutkittu yliopistolla laajasti. Pumppausprosesseissa on todettu olevan merkittävä energiansäästöpotentiaali: pumppauksen kuluttamasta energiasta voi olla mahdollista säästää jopa 50 % erilaisilla laite- ja säästötaparatkaisuilla. Pumppausprosessien energia-auditointeja on tehty teollisuuden pumppauskohteisiin kuin myös kunnallisiin vesi-huoltolaitoksiin. Lisäksi energia-auditointien puitteissa on tutkittu energiansäästömahdollisuuksia rakennuksissa. Energiansäästökohteita etsitään sekä lämpö- että sähköenergian osalta. Energia-auditoinneissa pumppausten osalta energiansäästöpotentiaalia on todettu olevan etenkin suuren kokoluokan pumpuissa, joilla on pitkä vuosittainen käyttöaika. Myös pumppujen säätötavalla on suuri merkitys energiankulutukseen. Rakennusten osalta on pyritty selvittämään, kuinka energiankulutus jakautuu eri kulutusryhmien kesken. Säästökohteita on löydetty muun muassa rakennusten tiiviydestä, ilmanvaihdosta kuin valaistuksestakin. Monia auditointien asiakkaita on kiinnostanut etenkin led-teknologian hyödyntäminen yleisvalaistuksessa sekä muut keinot säästää valaistuksen energiankulutuksessa. Pyrkimyksenä on kehittää energia-auditointeja projektin aikana saavutettujen kokemusten avulla sekä myös liiketaloudellisessa mielessä opinnäytetutkielmien avulla. Menestyksekäs palveluliiketoiminta edellyttää määriteltyjä toimintatapoja, riittävän tarkkaa palvelujen rajausta ja koko energia-auditointiprosessin kehittämistä aina asiakassuhteen luomisesta sen jatko-hoitoon saakka.

The main objective of this study is to examine the relationships between resources, competitive advantage and firm success. The study focuses, on one hand, on the financial performance of service-intensive manufac-turing firms against competitors with a lower service intensity and, on the other hand, on the resources as drivers for competitive advantage and success. The purpose of the theoretical part is to link the study in the field of the strategy research. The empirical part of the study is based on the quantitative analyses of the survey data collected from 50 major suppliers of industrial machinery and transportation equipment in Europe and North America. Results indicate that service-intensive manufacturing firms have performed better and their performance has been more stable vis-à-vis their peers. The main resources that differentiate service-intensive manufacturing firms from their non-service intensive competitors are service strategy and service-oriented top management. The analyses on the VRIO resources produced only a limited amount of information and solely service-centred culture appeared to be a rent generating resource.

Liiketoiminnot käyttävät useita erillisiä tietojärjestelmiä. Toimintaprosessit sisältävät useiden eri liiketoimintojen suorittamia tehtäviä. Tehtävien tarvitsemien ja tuottamien tietojen sujuvan virtauksen toteutuminen vaatii tietojen ja tietojärjestelmien integraatiota, jota on toteutettu perinteisesti järjestelmien välisillä suorilla yhteyksillä. Tästä seuraa IT-arkkitehtuurin joustamattomuutta. Palvelulähtöisellä arkkitehtuurilla (Service Oriented Architecture, SOA) luvataan IT-arkkitehtuurille parempaa joustavuutta ja toisaalta kustannussäästöjä. Työssä selvitettiin palveluarkkitehtuurin teoreettinen tausta sekä palvelulähtöisen prosessikuvauskielen BPMN ideaa. Empiirisessä osuudessa haettiin teemahaastattelujen avulla kohdeyrityksen ja sen käyttämien järjestelmätoimittajien näkemyksiä palveluarkkitehtuurista ja siihen vaikuttavista tekijöistä. Lisäksi työssä selvitettiin palveluarkkitehtuurista saatavia vastauksia kohdeyrityksen IT-strategiassa esitettyihin tavoitteisiin. Työn tuloksena analysoitiin palvelupohjaista mallinnusmenetelmää noudattaen prosessi- ja palvelukuvaus sekä tunnistettiin niitä tukevat SOA-palvelut. Menetelmän lopputuloksia hyödyntäen työssä esitettiin implementointiratkaisu palveluväylän avulla toteutettuna. Lisäksi luonnosteltiin ehdotusta siitä, miten kohdeyritys voisi lähteä liikkeelle palveluarkkitehtuurin soveltamisessa.

This thesis comprises seven peer-reviewed articles and examines systems and applications suitable for increasing Future Force Warrior performance, minimizing collateral damage, improving situational awareness and Common Operational Picture. Based on a literature study, missing functionalities of Future Force Warrior were identified and new ideas, concepts and solutions were created as part of early stages of Systems of Systems creation. These introduced ideas have not yet been implemented or tested in combat and for this reason benefit analyses are excluded. The main results of this thesis include the following: A new networking concept, Wireless Polling Sensor Network, which is a swarm of a few Unmanned Aerial Vehicles forming an ad-hoc network and polling a large number of fixed sensor nodes. The system is more robust in a military environment than traditional Wireless Sensor Networks. A Business Process approach to Service Oriented Architecture in a tactical setting is a concept for scheduling and sharing limited resources. New components to military Service Oriented Architecture have been introduced in the thesis. Other results of the thesis include an investigation of the use of Free Space Optics in tactical communications, a proposal for tracking neutral forces, a system for upgrading simple collaboration tools for command, control and collaboration purposes, a three-level hierarchy of Future Force Warrior, and methods for reducing incidents of fratricide.

In this paper a computer program to model and support product design is presented. The product is represented through a hierarchical structure that allows the user to navigate across the product’s components, and it aims at facilitating each step of the detail design process. A graphical interface was also developed, which shows visually to the user the contents of the product structure. Features are used as building blocks for the parts that compose the product, and object-oriented methodology was used as a means to implement the product structure. Finally, an expert system was also implemented, whose knowledge base rules help the user design a product that meets design and manufacturing requirements.

Video transcoding refers to the process of converting a digital video from one format into another format. It is a compute-intensive operation. Therefore, transcoding of a large number of simultaneous video streams requires a large amount of computing resources. Moreover, to handle di erent load conditions in a cost-e cient manner, the video transcoding service should be dynamically scalable. Infrastructure as a Service Clouds currently offer computing resources, such as virtual machines, under the pay-per-use business model. Thus the IaaS Clouds can be leveraged to provide a coste cient, dynamically scalable video transcoding service. To use computing resources e ciently in a cloud computing environment, cost-e cient virtual machine provisioning is required to avoid overutilization and under-utilization of virtual machines. This thesis presents proactive virtual machine resource allocation and de-allocation algorithms for video transcoding in cloud computing. Since users' requests for videos may change at di erent times, a check is required to see if the current computing resources are adequate for the video requests. Therefore, the work on admission control is also provided. In addition to admission control, temporal resolution reduction is used to avoid jitters in a video. Furthermore, in a cloud computing environment such as Amazon EC2, the computing resources are more expensive as compared with the storage resources. Therefore, to avoid repetition of transcoding operations, a transcoded video needs to be stored for a certain time. To store all videos for the same amount of time is also not cost-e cient because popular transcoded videos have high access rate while unpopular transcoded videos are rarely accessed. This thesis provides a cost-e cient computation and storage trade-o strategy, which stores videos in the video repository as long as it is cost-e cient to store them. This thesis also proposes video segmentation strategies for bit rate reduction and spatial resolution reduction video transcoding. The evaluation of proposed strategies is performed using a message passing interface based video transcoder, which uses a coarse-grain parallel processing approach where video is segmented at group of pictures level.

Cloud computing, despite its success and promises, presents issues for businesses mi­grating their legacy applications to cloud. In this research legacy-to-cloud migration issues are reviewed based on literature findings and an experience report. Solutions are applied to Tieto Open Application Suite (TOAS) software development platform running on cloud infrastructure. It is observed that the migration strategy heavily affects the migration approach. For TOAS a strategy of redesigning the applications for cloud is suggested. Common migration-driven application level modifications in­clude adaptation to service-oriented architecture, load balancing, and runtime and technology changes. A cloud platform such as TOAS might introduce additional needs. Decision making on migration strategy is found to be an issue to be solved case by case. Use of assistive decision making tools is suggested.

Context: Web services have been gaining popularity due to the success of service oriented architecture and cloud computing. Web services offer tremendous opportunity for service developers to publish their services and applications over the boundaries of the organization or company. However, to fully exploit these opportunities it is necessary to find efficient discovery mechanism thus, Web services discovering mechanism has attracted a considerable attention in Semantic Web research, however, there have been no literature surveys that systematically map the present research result thus overall impact of these research efforts and level of maturity of their results are still unclear. This thesis aims at providing an overview of the current state of research into Web services discovering mechanism using systematic mapping. The work is based on the papers published 2004 to 2013, and attempts to elaborate various aspects of the analyzed literature including classifying them in terms of the architecture, frameworks and methods used for web services discovery mechanism. Objective: The objective if this work is to summarize the current knowledge that is available as regards to Web service discovery mechanisms as well as to systematically identify and analyze the current published research works in order to identify different approaches presented. Method: A systematic mapping study has been employed to assess the various Web Services discovery approaches presented in the literature. Systematic mapping studies are useful for categorizing and summarizing the level of maturity research area. Results: The result indicates that there are numerous approaches that are consistently being researched and published in this field. In terms of where these researches are published, conferences are major contributing publishing arena as 48% of the selected papers were conference published papers illustrating the level of maturity of the research topic. Additionally selected 52 papers are categorized into two broad segments namely functional and non-functional based approaches taking into consideration architectural aspects and information retrieval approaches, semantic matching, syntactic matching, behavior based matching as well as QOS and other constraints.

Digitalization has been predicted to change the future as a growing range of non-routine tasks will be automated, offering new kinds of business models for enterprises. Serviceoriented architecture (SOA) provides a basis for designing and implementing welldefined problems as reusable services, allowing computers to execute them. Serviceoriented design has potential to act as a mediator between IT and human resources, but enterprises struggle with their SOA adoption and lack a linkage between the benefits and costs of services. This thesis studies the phenomenon of service reuse in enterprises, proposing an ontology to link different kinds of services with their role conceptually as a part of the business model. The proposed ontology has been created on the basis of qualitative research conducted in three large enterprises. Service reuse has two roles in enterprises: it enables automated data sharing among human and IT resources, and it may provide cost savings in service development and operations. From a technical viewpoint, the ability to define a business problem as a service is one of the key enablers for achieving service reuse. The research proposes two service identification methods, first to identify prospective services in the existing documentation of the enterprise and secondly to model the services from a functional viewpoint, supporting service identification sessions with business stakeholders.

Die Bedeutung des Dienstgüte-Managements (SLM) im Bereich von Unternehmensanwendungen steigt mit der zunehmenden Kritikalität von IT-gestützten Prozessen für den Erfolg einzelner Unternehmen. Traditionell werden zur Implementierung eines wirksamen SLMs Monitoringprozesse in hierarchischen Managementumgebungen etabliert, die einen Administrator bei der notwendigen Rekonfiguration von Systemen unterstützen. Auf aktuelle, hochdynamische Softwarearchitekturen sind diese hierarchischen Ansätze jedoch nur sehr eingeschränkt anwendbar. Ein Beispiel dafür sind dienstorientierte Architekturen (SOA), bei denen die Geschäftsfunktionalität durch das Zusammenspiel einzelner, voneinander unabhängiger Dienste auf Basis deskriptiver Workflow-Beschreibungen modelliert wird. Dadurch ergibt sich eine hohe Laufzeitdynamik der gesamten Architektur. Für das SLM ist insbesondere die dezentrale Struktur einer SOA mit unterschiedlichen administrativen Zuständigkeiten für einzelne Teilsysteme problematisch, da regelnde Eingriffe zum einen durch die Kapselung der Implementierung einzelner Dienste und zum anderen durch das Fehlen einer zentralen Kontrollinstanz nur sehr eingeschränkt möglich sind. Die vorliegende Arbeit definiert die Architektur eines SLM-Systems für SOA-Umgebungen, in dem autonome Management-Komponenten kooperieren, um übergeordnete Dienstgüteziele zu erfüllen: Mithilfe von Selbst-Management-Technologien wird zunächst eine Automatisierung des Dienstgüte-Managements auf Ebene einzelner Dienste erreicht. Die autonomen Management-Komponenten dieser Dienste können dann mithilfe von Selbstorganisationsmechanismen übergreifende Ziele zur Optimierung von Dienstgüteverhalten und Ressourcennutzung verfolgen. Für das SLM auf Ebene von SOA Workflows müssen temporär dienstübergreifende Kooperationen zur Erfüllung von Dienstgüteanforderungen etabliert werden, die sich damit auch über mehrere administrative Domänen erstrecken können. Eine solche zeitlich begrenzte Kooperation autonomer Teilsysteme kann sinnvoll nur dezentral erfolgen, da die jeweiligen Kooperationspartner im Vorfeld nicht bekannt sind und – je nach Lebensdauer einzelner Workflows – zur Laufzeit beteiligte Komponenten ausgetauscht werden können. In der Arbeit wird ein Verfahren zur Koordination autonomer Management-Komponenten mit dem Ziel der Optimierung von Antwortzeiten auf Workflow-Ebene entwickelt: Management-Komponenten können durch Übertragung von Antwortzeitanteilen untereinander ihre individuellen Ziele straffen oder lockern, ohne dass das Gesamtantwortzeitziel dadurch verändert wird. Die Übertragung von Antwortzeitanteilen wird mithilfe eines Auktionsverfahrens realisiert. Technische Grundlage der Kooperation bildet ein Gruppenkommunikationsmechanismus. Weiterhin werden in Bezug auf die Nutzung geteilter, virtualisierter Ressourcen konkurrierende Dienste entsprechend geschäftlicher Ziele priorisiert. Im Rahmen der praktischen Umsetzung wird die Realisierung zentraler Architekturelemente und der entwickelten Verfahren zur Selbstorganisation beispielhaft für das SLM konkreter Komponenten vorgestellt. Zur Untersuchung der Management-Kooperation in größeren Szenarien wird ein hybrider Simulationsansatz verwendet. Im Rahmen der Evaluation werden Untersuchungen zur Skalierbarkeit des Ansatzes durchgeführt. Schwerpunkt ist hierbei die Betrachtung eines Systems aus kooperierenden Management-Komponenten, insbesondere im Hinblick auf den Kommunikationsaufwand. Die Evaluation zeigt, dass ein dienstübergreifendes, autonomes Performance-Management in SOA-Umgebungen möglich ist. Die Ergebnisse legen nahe, dass der entwickelte Ansatz auch in großen Umgebungen erfolgreich angewendet werden kann.

Modeling and simulation permeate all areas of business, science and engineering. With the increase in the scale and complexity of simulations, large amounts of computational resources are required, and collaborative model development is needed, as multiple parties could be involved in the development process. The Grid provides a platform for coordinated resource sharing and application development and execution. In this paper, we survey existing technologies in modeling and simulation, and we focus on interoperability and composability of simulation components for both simulation development and execution. We also present our recent work on an HLA-based simulation framework on the Grid, and discuss the issues to achieve composability.

As ubiquitous systems have moved out of the lab and into the world the need to think more systematically about how there are realised has grown. This talk will present intradisciplinary work I have been engaged in with other computing colleagues on how we might develop more formal models and understanding of ubiquitous computing systems. The formal modelling of computing systems has proved valuable in areas as diverse as reliability, security and robustness. However, the emergence of ubiquitous computing raises new challenges for formal modelling due to their contextual nature and dependence on unreliable sensing systems. In this work we undertook an exploration of modelling an example ubiquitous system called the Savannah game using the approach of bigraphical rewriting systems. This required an unusual intra-disciplinary dialogue between formal computing and human- computer interaction researchers to model systematically four perspectives on Savannah: computational, physical, human and technical. Each perspective in turn drew upon a range of different modelling traditions. For example, the human perspective built upon previous work on proxemics, which uses physical distance as a means to understand interaction. In this talk I hope to show how our model explains observed inconsistencies in Savannah and ex- tend it to resolve these. I will then reflect on the need for intradisciplinary work of this form and the importance of the bigraph diagrammatic form to support this form of engagement. Speaker Biography Tom Rodden Tom Rodden (rodden.info) is a Professor of Interactive Computing at the University of Nottingham. His research brings together a range of human and technical disciplines, technologies and techniques to tackle the human, social, ethical and technical challenges involved in ubiquitous computing and the increasing used of personal data. He leads the Mixed Reality Laboratory (www.mrl.nott.ac.uk) an interdisciplinary research facility that is home of a team of over 40 researchers. He founded and currently co-directs the Horizon Digital Economy Research Institute (www.horizon.ac.uk), a university wide interdisciplinary research centre focusing on ethical use of our growing digital footprint. He has previously directed the EPSRC Equator IRC (www.equator.ac.uk) a national interdisciplinary research collaboration exploring the place of digital interaction in our everyday world. He is a fellow of the British Computer Society and the ACM and was elected to the ACM SIGCHI Academy in 2009 (http://www.sigchi.org/about/awards/).

Las herramientas ETL (Extract, Transform, Load – extraer, transformar, cargar) permiten modelizar flujos de datos, facilitando la ejecución automática de procesos repetitivos. El intercambio de información entre dos modelos de datos heterogéneos es un claro ejemplo del tipo de tareas que pueden abordarse con software ETL. El proyecto Kettle es una herramienta ETL con licencia LGPL (Library General Public License) que utiliza técnicas de computación grid (ejecución paralela y distribuida) para poder procesar grandes cantidades de datos en un tiempo reducido. Kettle combina una potente ejecución en modo servidor con una intuitiva herramienta de escritorio para modelar los procesos y configurar los parámetros de ejecución. GeoKettle es una extensión de Kettle, que añade la posibilidad de tratar datos con componente geográfica, si bien está limitado a datos vectoriales y a ciertas operaciones espaciales muy concreta. El Centro Temático Europeo de Usos del Suelo e Información Espacial (ETC-LUSI) está impulsando un proyecto complementario, llamado BeETLe, que pretende ampliar drásticamente las capacidades de análisis y transformación espacial de GeoKettle. Para ello se ha elegido el proyecto Sextante, una librería de análisis espacial que incluye más de doscientos algoritmos ráster y vectoriales. La intención del proyecto BeETLe es integrar el conjunto de algoritmos de Sextante en GeoKettle, de forma que estén disponibles como transformaciones de GeoKettle. Las principales características de la herramienta BeETLe incluyen: automatización de procesos de análisis espacial o de transformaciones repetitivas de datos espaciales, ejecución paralela y distribuida (grid computing), capacidad para procesar grandes cantidades de datos sin limitaciones de memoria, y soporte de datos ráster y vectorial. Los usuarios actuales de Sextante descubrirán que BeETLe les propone una forma de trabajo sencilla e intuitiva, que añade a Sextante toda la potencia que ofrecen las herramientas ETL para procesar y transformar información en bases de datos
