The goal of the power monitoring in electrical power systems is to promote the reliablility as well as the quality of electrical power.Therefore, this dissertation proposes a new theory of power based on wavelet transform for real-time estimation of RMS voltages and currents, and some power amounts, such as active power, reactive power, apparent power, and power factor. The appropriate estimation the of RMS and power values is important for many applications, such as: design and analysis of power systems, compensation devices for improving power quality, and instruments for energy measuring. Simulation and experimental results obtained through the proposed MaximalOverlap Discrete Wavelet Transform-based method were compared with the IEEE Standard 1459-2010 and the commercial oscilloscope, respectively, presenting equivalent results. The proposed method presented good performance for compact mother wavelet, which is in accordance with real-time applications.

Introdução: Nos últimos anos, a estética tem vindo a desempenhar um papel cada vez mais importante na Medicina Dentária. Um sorriso considerado agradável é uma parte indispensável relativamente à harmonia facial e consequentemente à autoestima das pessoas. Quando durante o sorriso há exposição de mais de 3mm de gengiva, este é designado por “sorriso gengival”. Considerado como um sorriso inestético, representa uma queixa muito comum por parte dos pacientes e à qual se tem vindo a dar cada vez mais importância. De entre as várias causas, no âmbito deste trabalho, destaca-se a Erupção Passiva Alterada (EPA). Com uma prevalência de 12% na população geral, a EPA é uma condição de difícil diagnóstico devido aos seus sinais pouco específicos e, por isso, muitas vezes ignorada ao longo dos últimos anos. É um fenómeno que não é previsível e a sua etiologia ainda não é muito clara, mas parece tratar-se de um anormal desenvolvimento a nível dentário, em que uma grande porção da coroa dentária fica coberta por gengiva, dando a aparência de coroas clínicas curtas. Apesar de estar hoje em dia propriamente classificada, não dispensa um cuidadoso diagnóstico para que venha a ser tratada adequadamente. O objetivo deste trabalho é efetuar uma revisão bibliográfica dos principais conceitos relativos à etiologia deste fenómeno e à sua classificação, assim como fazer uma abordagem ao seu diagnóstico e tratamento. Materiais e métodos: Foi realizada uma pesquisa na base de dados da PubMed e Research Gate, utilizando como palavras/expressões-chave: “altered passive eruption” e “delayed passive eruption”. A pesquisa resultou num total de 23 artigos, tendo sido complementada com duas obras literárias de interesse. Resultados/conclusões: Foi possível verificar que, apesar de não haver muitos estudos relativos à EPA, é cada vez mais importante realizar um diagnóstico correto para que o tratamento seja o adequado e irmos de encontro às expectativas do paciente, já que muitas vezes este é um fenómeno não identificado devido às suas características inespecíficas. O tratamento da EPA é feito de acordo com a sua classificação e os seus resultados melhoram bastante a estética do sorriso.

Os microRNAs (miRNAs) são curtas cadeias de RNA não codificante, com cerca de 18 a 25 nucleotídeos, que regulam os níveis de mRNAs que são produzidos a partir de genes codificantes de proteínas. A descoberta dos miRNAs e a sua subsequente caracterização estrutural e funcional revelou a existência de um novo processo de regulação pós-transcricional da expressão génica em células eucarióticas que afeta uma grande variedade de funções celulares. A senescência acompanha o processo de evelhecimento dos organismos e é manifestada pela perda da capacidade proliferativa das células em resposta a diversos fatores de stress que desencadeiam alterações moleculares específicas. Na última década foram identificados e caracterizados vários miRNAs que participam na regulação do fenótipo da senescência celular, quer através da modulação de vias de sinalização endógenas que controlam a progressão do ciclo celular, quer através da secreção de factores de sinalização. Vários estudos têm também revelado a enorme potencialidade dos miRNAs como biomarcadores e alvos moleculares de novas abordagens terapêuticas. No futuro, é expectável que os avanços científicos possam ser transferidos para a prática clínica com vista a uma efetiva prevenção, vigilância e tratamento do envelhecimento prematuro e de doenças associadas ao envelhecimento.

The large number of opinions generated by online users made the former “word of mouth” find its way to virtual world. In addition to be numerous, many of the useful reviews are mixed with a large number of fraudulent, incomplete or duplicate reviews. However, how to find the features that influence on the number of votes received by an opinion and find useful reviews? The literature on opinion mining has several studies and techniques that are able to analyze of properties found in the text of reviews. This paper presents the application of a methodology for evaluation of usefulness of opinions with the aim of identifying which characteristics have more influence on the amount of votes: basic utility (e.g. ratings about the product and/or service, date of publication), textual (e.g.size of words, paragraphs) and semantics (e.g., the meaning of the words of the text). The evaluation was performed in a database extracted from TripAdvisor with opinionsabout hotels written in Portuguese. Results show that users give more attention to recent opinions with higher scores for value and location of the hotel and with lowest scores for sleep quality and service and cleanliness. Texts with positive opinions, small words, few adjectives and adverbs increase the chances of receiving more votes.

To design strategies for the conservation and use of genetic resources of tree species such as jaboticaba tree, it is essential to make the characterization. In southwestern Paraná region, there are several forest fragments containing native jaboticaba tree (Plinia cauliflora), whose materials have broad potential for commercial orchards or breeding programs. As is the potential genetic diversity of a population to produce different genotypes, it would be able to start in such a characterization one of these fragments. The aim was to characterize fruits of jaboticaba tree (P. caulifora) of forest fragment kept in Clevelândia - PR for the presence of phenotypic variability, seeking to identify those superiors named for future selection as farming or male parent, as well as estimate genetic divergence between them, as a complementary tool for this purpose. Also, verify the regeneration and spatial distribution of the species. For the study was defined portion of a hectare (10.000 m²), with all individuals identified, mapped, with local coordinate system, and measured height and diameter. Fruits were characterized by sensory and biochemical characteristics in two years, 70 genotypes at 2013 and 56 at 2014, and of these 33 genotypes in both years. As a pre-selection criteria was adopted the choice of 20% of the genotypes that showed the highest frequency of superiority in the evaluated characteristics of the fruit. Genetic divergence among 33 genotypes per year was analyzed. The distribution pattern and spatial association was evaluated by Ripley's K function. It was classified for the first time the following ontogenetic stages of jaboticaba tree, by plant height, seedling (from 0.01 to 0.99 m), juvenile (1.0 to 4.99 m), immature (> 5.0 m, non-reproductive), adult (reproductive). It was also have been describe for the first time the naturally occurring juxtaposed seedlings, indicating polyembryony. The number of regenerating identified in the population (seedlings: n = 2163; juveniles: n = 330; immature: n = 59) was much larger than the number of adults (n = 132). The species showed reverse J-shaped size structure standard, with high concentration of regenerating. The regeneration distribution occurs in aggregate pattern and there is seedling-adult dependence, due seed dispersal and seedling emergence closest to mothers. The jaboticaba tree regeneration is sufficient to maintain the species for long term in this population, which should serve as reference to regeneration success for other studies of this important fruiting species from Ombrofile Mixed Forests. Has been pre-selected the jaboticaba trees 7, 42, 43, 47, 54, 91, 97, 104, 105, 118, 134, 153, 154, 157, 163, 169, 177, 186, 212, J7-01 and J7- 02, and 16 and 194 the ones that can now be selected by the superior characteristics of both cycles. It was recommended to carry out hybridization between genotypes 79 and 119, and 96 to 148. The quality of fruit analyzed showed potential for use as a dual purpose serving both in natura market or processing.

As unidades estratigráficas que resultaram da evolução do rio Tejo em Portugal, aqui analisadas em pormenor entre Vila Velha de Ródão e Chamusca, possuem distintas características sedimentares e indústrias líticas: uma unidade culminante do enchimento sedimentar (o ancestral Tejo, antes do início da etapa de incisão fluvial) - SLD13 (+142 a 262 m acima do leito actual; com provável idade 3,6 a 1,8 Ma), sem indústrias identificadas; terraço T1 (+76 a 180 m; ca. 1000? a 900 ka), sem indústrias; terraço T2 (+57 a 150 m; idade estimada em ca. 600 ka), sem indústrias; terraço T3 (+36 a 113 m; ca. 460 a 360? ka), sem indústrias; terraço T4 (+26 a 55 m; ca. 335 a 155 ka), Paleolítico Inferior (Acheulense) em níveis da base e intermédios mas Paleolítico Médio inicial em níveis do topo; terraço T5 (+5 a 34 m; 135 a 73 ka), Paleolítico Médio (com talhe Mustierense, Levallois); terraço T6 (+3 a 14 m; 62 a 32 ka), Paleolítico Médio final (Mustierense final); Areias da Carregueira (areias eólicas) e coluviões (+3 a ca. 100 m; 32 a 12 ka), Paleolítico Superior a Epipaleolítico; enchimento da planície aluvial (+0 a 8 m; ca. 12 ka a actual), Mesolítico e indústrias mais recentes. As diferenças na elevação (a.r.b.) das escadarias de terraços resultam de soerguimento diferencial, devido a falhas ativas. Numa dada escadaria datada, a projeção da elevação da superfície de cada terraço (a.r.b.) versus a sua idade permitiu estimar a idade do topo do terraço T2 (ca. 600 ka) e a provável idade do início da etapa de incisão (ca. 1,8 Ma). Obteve-se a duração da fase de agradação dos terraços baixos e médios: T6 – 30 ka; T5 – 62 ka; T4 – ca. 180 ka; T3 – ca. 100? ka. Conclui-se que durante o Plistocénico médio e final, as fases de incisão e alargamento do vale foram curtas (ca. 11-25 ka) e ocorreram durante períodos de nível do mar muito baixo, alternando com mais longas fases de inundação e agradação do vale durante níveis do mar mais altos. Estas oscilações eustáticas de causa climática estão sobrepostas a um contexto de soerguimento de longo termo, controlando o desenvolvimento das escadarias. Calculou-se que para os últimos ca. 155 ka as taxas de incisão de curto-termo apresentam valores (0,09 a 0,41 m/ka), aproximadamente, duplos dos calculados para o intervalo ca. 155 a 900 ka (0,04 a 0,28 m/ka). Este aumento na taxa de incisão deve estar relacionado com um aumento na taxa de soerguimento por intensificação da compressão devido à convergência entre as placas Africana e Eurasiática. Abstract: The terrace staircases of the Lower Tagus River (Ródão to Chamusca) – characterization and interpretation of the sedimentary, tectonic, climatic and Palaeolithic data The stratigraphic units that record the evolution of the Tagus River in Portugal (study area between Vila Velha de Ródão and Chamusca villages) have different sedimentary characteristics and lithic industries: a culminant sedimentary unit (the ancestral Tagus, before the drainage network entrenchment) – SLD13 (+142 to 262 m above river bed – a.r.b.; with probable age 3.6 to 1.8 Ma), without artefacts; T1 terrace (+76 to 180 m; ca. 1000? to 900 ka), without artefacts; T2 terrace (+57 to 150 m; top deposits with a probable age ca. 600 ka), without artefacts; T3 terrace (+36 to 113 m; ca. 460 to 360? ka), without artefacts; T4 terrace (+26 to 55 m; ca. 335 a 155 ka), Lower Paleolithic (Acheulian) at basal and middle levels but early Middle Paleolithic at top levels; T5 terrace (+5 to 34 m; 135 to 73 ka), Middle Paleolithic (Mousterian; Levallois technique); T6 terrace (+3 to 14 m; 62 to 32 ka), late Middle Paleolithic (late Mousterian); Carregueira Sands (aeolian sands) and colluvium (+3 a ca. 100 m; 32 to 12 ka), Upper Paleolithic to Epipaleolithic; alluvial plain (+0 to 8 m; ca. 12 ka to present), Mesolithic and more recent industries. The differences in elevation (a.r.b.) of the several terrace staircases results from differential uplift due to active faults. The age interval for each aggradation phase of T3 to T6 terraces was obtained: T3 – ca. 100? ka; T4 – ca. 180 ka; T5 – 62 ka; T6 – 30 ka. The intervals of river down-cutting and widening of the valley floor were short (ca. 11-25 ka) and coincided with periods of very low sea-level. The plotting of the elevation (a.r.b.) versus the age of each terrace surface allows to estimate the age of the T2 terrace (ca. 600 ka) and the probable age of the beginning of the incision stage (ca. 1.8 Ma). So, the high amplitude sea-level changes that characterized the Middle and Late Pleistocene strongly determined the episodic down-cutting phases of the river during the low stands sea levels that alternated with the flooding and aggradation phases of the incised valley during highstand sea levels. These climate related eustatic oscillations are superimposed onto a long term uplift pattern, controlling the river terrace staircase development. During the last ca. 155 ka, the short-term incision rates (0.09 a 0.41 m/ka) were twice the values determined for the interval 155 to 900 ka (0.04 to 0.28 m/ka). This increase in incision rate should be related with an increase in uplift rate resulting from an intensification of compression due to the convergence between African - Eurasian plates.

The gradual replacement of conventional materials by the ones called composite materials is becoming a concern about the response of these composites against adverse environmental conditions, such as ultraviolet radiation, high temperature and moist. Also the search for new composite using natural fibers or a blend of it with synthetic fibers as reinforcement has been studied. In this sense, this research begins with a thorough study of microstructural characterization of licuri fiber, as a proposal of alternative reinforcement to polymeric composites. Thus, a study about the development of two composite laminates was done. The first one, involving only the fiber of licuri and the second comprising a hybrid composite based of fiber glass E and the fiber of licuri, in order to know the performance of the fiber when of fiber across the hybridization process. The laminates were made in the form of plates using the tereftálica ortho-polyester resin as matrix. The composite laminate made only by licuri fiber had two reinforcing fabric layers of unidirectional licuri and the hybrid composite had two reinforcing layers of unidirectional licuri fabric and three layers of fiber short glass-E mat. Finally, both laminates was exposed to aging acceleration in order to study the influence of environmental degradation involving the mechanical properties and fracture characteristics thereof. Regarding the mechanical properties of composites, these were determined through uniaxial tensile tests, uniaxial compression and three bending points for both laminates in original state, and uniaxial tensile tests and three bending points after accelerated aging. As regards the study of structural degradation due to aging of the laminates, it was carried out based on microscopic analysis and microstructure, as well as measuring weight loss. The characteristics of the fracture was performed by macroscopic and microscopic (optical and SEM) analysis. In general, the laminated composites based on fiber licuri showed some advantages in their responses to environmental aging. These advantages are observed in the behavior related to stiffness as well as the microstructural degradation and photo-oxidation processes. However, the structural integrity of this laminate was more affected in case the action of uniaxial tensile loads, where it was noted a lower rate of withholding his last resistance property

Oil recovery using waterflooding has been until now the worldwide most applied method, specially for light oil recovery, its success is mainly because of the low costs involved and the facilities of the injection process. The Toe- To-Heel Waterflooding TTHWTM method uses a well pattern of vertical injector wells completed at the bottom of the reservoir and horizontal producer wells completed at the top of it. The main producing mechanism is gravitational segregation in short distance. This method has been studied since the early 90´s and it had been applied in Canada with positive results for light heavy oils, nevertheless it hasn´t been used in Brazil yet. In order to verify the applicability of the process in Brazil, a simulation study for light oil was performed using Brazilian northwest reservoirs characteristics. The simulations were fulfilled using the STARS module of the Computer Modelling Group Software, used to perform improved oil recovery studies. The results obtained in this research showed that the TTHWTM well pattern presented a light improvement in terms of recovery factor when compared to the conventional 5- Spot pattern, however, it showed lower results in the economic evaluation

Neste trabalho pretendemos analisar a evolução do ensino superior brasileiro e sua relação com o estabelecimento dos modelos de formação do professor de Geografia, buscando demonstrar que o estabelecimento desses modelos não resulta apenas de políticas educacionais no campo curricular, mas de uma combinação dessas políticas e das características assumidas pelo ensino superior brasileiro em seu processo de expansão e consolidação. Tomamos como marco histórico os anos 1930 quando a formação de professores foi elevada a nível superior com a criação das faculdades de filosofia. É nos anos 1950 que a formação do professor de Geografia separa-se do curso de História que até então formava conjuntamente esses profissionais. Em 1960 ocorre outra mudança com a criação das licenciaturas curtas em Estudos Sociais capitaneada pela forte expansão e mercantilização da educação superior brasileira. Nos anos de 1990 um novo modelo de formação do professor de Geografia se estabelece em consonância com a reforma do ensino superior no país.
