L'entorn de les WebQuest com a recurs motivador per a la millora del rendiment d'alumnes amb dificultats d'atenció i amb N.E.E.

A partir de la creació i aplicació didàctica d'una WebQuest en un curs de 4t de Primària s'analitza com i de uina manera pot influir positivament en el rendiment personal i acadèmic del grup d'alumnes, grup que presenta unes característiques acusades de dificultats d'atenció generalitzada, forts desnivells de coneixements, i en el qual es troben alumnes amb necessitats educatives especials (n.e.e.). Les webquest poden ser un bon recurs didàctic per a motivar el treball cooperatiu i la interacció entre alumnes, professors i les tecnologies de la informació i la comunicació.

La interferencia lingüística en los medios de comunicación escritos: La vanguardia y algunos catalanismos léxicos

El objetivo de este trabajo de investigación es profundizar en las interferencias léxicas en los medios de comunicación escritos en castellano editados en Cataluña durante los años 1998-2008. En concreto, se analizan seis casos de interferencia léxica (paleta, lampista, pescatero/a, pescatería, parada y paradoxal) en La Vanguardia. El trabajo pretende ampliar los estudios realizados en el ámbito de la escritura del español en Cataluña. Para ello, se utiliza una base de datos. Se evalúan las informaciones extraídas de la herramienta informática y se presentan las conclusiones, teniendo en cuenta posibles condicionantes (tanto lingüísticos como extralingüísticos) para justificar los resultados

Incidència de l’entorn educatiu, familiar i social en les actituds lingüístiques i identitàries dels joves d’origen xinès i llatinoamericà a Catalunya

From an interdisciplinary perspective, the present investigation undertaken by the GREILI-UPF research group has expanded a previous study aiming at explaining how young secondary school students of Latin American and Chinese origin in Catalonia construct their linguistic and cultural identity. Here we analyze the relationship between these youngsters and their social environment in order to determine how these relationships and the socialization process that derives from them influence language attitudes and practices. We focus on two spaces of socialization: (1) the school, where youngsters from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds coexist and interact, and (2) the neighborhood, a geographic and symbolic space where social identity is constructed and, consequently, where young newcomers construct their perceptions regarding the host society, including its linguistic reality. We have collected several sets of data in three public secondary schools and three neighborhoods from Barcelona’s metropolitan area with a high index of immigrant population: (1) interviews with secondary school students, (2) interviews with teachers, (3) social discourses in newspapers that consolidate the social image of the neighborhood, (4) narratives from immigrant families in relation to their neighborhood, (5) participant observation in schools, and (5) observation in the neighborhood. The results of the thematic and, when appropriate, discursive analysis of the data allow us to reach conclusions regarding: (a) the social image of the neighborhoods, (b) the socialization of young newcomers in the schools and the neighborhoods, (c) the identity games, and (d) the language and cultural practices and attitudes of young people, in relation to their countries and languages of origin as well as the school and the neighborhood investigated.

The growing multilingual trend in movie production comes with a challenge for dubbing translators since they are increasingly confronted with more than one source language. The main purpose of this master’s thesis is to provide a case study on how these third languages (see CORRIUS and ZABALBEASCOA 2011) are rendered. Another aim is to put a particular focus on their textual and narrative functions and detect possible shifts that might occur in translations. By applying a theoretical model for translation analysis (CORRIUS and ZABALBEASCOA 2011), this study describes how third languages are rendered in the German, Spanish, and Italian dubbed versions of the 2009 Tarantino movie Inglourious Basterds. A broad range of solution-types are thereby revealed and prevalent restrictions of the translation process identified. The target texts are brought in context with some sociohistorical aspects of dubbing in order to detect prevalent norms of the respective cultures andto discuss the acceptability of translations (TOURY 1995). The translatability potential of even highly complex multilingual audiovisual texts is demonstrated in this study. Moreover, proposals for further studies in multilingual audiovisual translation are outlined and the potential for future investigations in this field thereby emphasised.

Spotting Translationese in two Corpora of Original and Translated Catalan Texts: an Empirical Approach

This research investigates the phenomenon of translationese in two monolingual comparable corpora of original and translated Catalan texts. Translationese has been defined as the dialect, sub-language or code of translated language. This study aims at giving empirical evidence of translation universals regardless the source language.Traditionally, research conducted on translation strategies has been mainly intuition-based. Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing techniques provide reliable information of lexical frequencies, morphological and syntactical distribution in corpora. Therefore, they have been applied to observe which translation strategies occur in these corpora.Results seem to prove the simplification, interference and explicitation hypotheses, whereas no sign of normalization has been detected with the methodology used.The data collected and the resources created for identifying lexical, morphological and syntactic patterns of translations can be useful for Translation Studies teachers, scholars and students: teachers will have more tools to help students avoid the reproduction of translationese patterns. Resources developed will help in detecting non-genuine or inadequate structures in the target language. This fact may imply an improvement in stylistic quality in translations. Translation professionals can also take advantage of these resources to improve their translation quality.

La traducción en colaboración en la industria editorial española

El presente estudio explora la realidad de la traducción en colaboración dentro de la industria editorial en España; es decir, de aquellos libros que han sido traducidos por más de una persona (sea cual sea la forma de colaboración entre los participantes). La intención del trabajo es realizar un primer acercamiento a esta práctica habitual que suele gozar de poca visibilidad. Para ello se han utilizado tres fuentes: un cuestionario dirigido a traductores de libros en activo; entrevistas personales con traductores que han trabajado en colaboración y editores; y textos producidos por los propios traductores y en los que hablan de su experiencia colaborativa. El trabajo se centra en cuestiones como el alcance de esta práctica, el perfil y las condiciones laborales de estos traductores, el reconocimiento y el prestigio de este tipo de traducción o las posibles repercusiones para el colectivo profesional de traductores de libros.

Interpretarium: una propuesta de plataforma educativa Moodle para la enseñanza-aprendizaje en línea de la Interpretación

Dentro del Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior, las nuevas tecnologías se han convertido en la herramienta por excelencia del aprendizaje, como lo demuestra la multiplicación de los campus virtuales. Los programas informáticos para la formación en interpretación, si bien ofrecen recursos valiosos para la práctica, siguen siendo escasos y su acceso muy restringido. El propósito de nuestro proyecto es proponer un dispositivo que una todos los recursos necesarios para formarse en interpretación y saque mayor provecho del desarrollo reciente de plataformas educativas. Así, planteamos la creación de Interpretarium mediante la plataforma Moodle, cuyas funcionalidades permiten no sólo subsanar las carencias de los proyectos anteriores sino también potenciar una enseñanza-aprendizaje reflexiva y cooperativa en línea. El diseño de la versión test de Interpretarium constituye el primer paso de un proceso de innovación docente para el que la colaboración de sus usuarios (docentes, estudiantes y profesionales de la interpretación) es esencial.

Estudio descriptivo y comparativo de juegos de palabras en Alice in wonderland y sus traducciones al español y chino

En este trabajo analizamos los juegos de palabras en Alice´s Adventures in Wonderland y sus cuatro traducciones: dos al chino y dos al español. Averiguamos las diferencias lingüísticas y culturales, sobre todo el nivel de coincidencia de conocimiento entre el autor y distintos lectores. Elaboramos un catálogo de las traducciones al chino a fin de concretar la posición de la traducción de esta obra en chino. Contextualizamos las traducciones acerca de la situación de la lengua meta, la ideología social y la experiencia de los traductores. Después nos concentramos en analizar 22 fragmentos con juegos de palabras en el texto original y textos meta, categorizamos los juegos de palabras y las técnicas de traducción aplicadas y describimos el efecto de las traducciones de los juegos. En la conclusión relacionamos las técnicas traductoras, su efecto y el contexto socio-cultural con la intención de explicar las decisiones que toman los traductores.

An LFG approach to the syntax of quotation

This paper attempts to give an account of the syntax of quotation from an LFG perspective. I claim that quotes are inserted at N’ positions by making use of a special phrase structure rule that makes the quote’s f-structure the PRED value of the mother f-structure. However, in order to reach to this conclusion, the concept of quotation has to be restricted to only include metalinguistic and direct reported speech quotes, by making use of the property of grammatical opacity, i.e. only subsegments whose ungrammaticality does not affect the grammaticality of the whole sentence are quotes. The main advantage of this is this distinguishes the syntax of direct quotes from the one of other citational but not quotational structures like Davidson’s (1979) and Cappelen and Lepore’s (2007) mixed quotation.

My final project is to show the development of the language and the style of the double bass and its change of role through different influences. To accomplish this I decided to make an analytic overview of those double bass players that started to use a different and not traditional approach on the instrument. Later, I focused on the bassists and composers who influenced me the most in the latest period of my study career by partly analysing their playing and their composition. Another part of my work was concerned with creating a personal connection with those musicians, who I consider idols of mine. I did this through interviews, to try to understand their creative process on the instrument and in the composition and to deeply comprehend their personal point of view about the evolution of the double bass. At the same time my interest for the compositional aspect was growing together with the necessity to discover my own voice as a musician. Subsequently I made an analysis of my compositions to underline and to get conscious about my personal influences and evolution. Concluding from this, I have created a complete overview and deepened my understanding for the modern approach in Jazz double bass.

La metàfora en les teories de la imatge: l’«analogia universal» i el «correlat objectiu»

Aquest treball posa en funcionament una gran xarxa d’intertextualitat generada al voltant d’un fenomen molt complex, que és la metàfora. La metàfora és segurament el motiu pel qual avui ens expressem i pel qual avui escrivim textos. Ja no ho diem pel fet que la metàfora sigui una figura literària molt eficaç per crear bellesa estètica, sinó perquè està implicada en la formació del llenguatge i en l’estructuració de la ment per assimilar i per figurar el coneixement. Per aquest motiu, en el nostre treball, hem volgut donar un enfocament pluridisciplinar a l’estudi de la metàfora, perquè, creiem, que sense aquesta visió àmplia, no es pot arribar a copsar ni entendre aquesta figura retòrica, que és molt més que això.
