The teaching-learning process is increasingly focused on the combination of the paradigms “learning by viewing” and “learning by doing.” In this context, educational resources, either expository or evaluative, play a pivotal role. Both types of resources are interdependent and their sequencing would create a richer educational experience to the end user. However, there is a lack of tools that support sequencing essentially due to the fact that existing specifications are complex. The Seqins is a sequencing tool of digital resources that has a fairly simple sequencing model. The tool communicates through the IMS LTI specification with a plethora of e-learning systems such as learning management systems, repositories, authoring and evaluation systems. In order to validate Seqins we integrate it in an e-learning Ensemble framework instance for the computer programming learning.

Video poker machines, a former symbol of fraud and gambling in Brazil, are now being converted into computer-based educational tools for Brazilian public primary schools and also for governmental and non-governmental institutions dealing with communities of poverty and social exclusion, in an attempt to reduce poverty risks (decrease money spent on gambling) and promote social inclusion (increase access and motivation to education). Thousands of illegal gambling machines are seized by federal authorities, in Brazil, every year, and usually destroyed at the end of the criminal apprehension process. This paper describes a project developed by the University of Southern Santa Catarina, Brazil, responsible for the conversion process of gambling machines, and the social inclusion opportunities derived from it. All project members worked on a volunteer basis, seeking to promote social inclusion of Brazilian young boys and girls, namely through digital inclusion. So far, the project has been able to convert over 200 gambling machines and install them in over 40 public primary schools, thus directly benefiting more than 12,000 schoolchildren. The initial motivation behind this project was technology based, however the different options arising from the conversion process of the gambling machines have also motivated a rather innovative and unique experience in allowing schoolchildren and young people with special (educational) needs to access to computer-based pedagogical applications. The availability of these converted machines also helps to place Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the very daily educational environment of these children and youngsters, thus serving social and cultural inclusion aspects, by establishing a dialogue with the community and their technological expectations, and also directly contributing to their digital literacy.

Existing adaptive educational hypermedia systems have been using learning resources sequencing approaches in order to enrich the learning experience. In this context, educational resources, either expository or evaluative, play a central role. This paper presents Seqins as a sequencing tool of digital educational resources. Seqins includes a simple and flexible sequencing model that will foster heterogeneous students to learn at different rhythms. The tool communicates through the IMS Learning Tools Interoperability specification with a plethora of e-learning systems such as learning management systems, repositories, authoring and automatic evaluation systems. In order to validate Seqins we integrate it in an e-learning Ensemble framework instance for the computer programming learning domain.

Vários estudos se têm realizado com a finalidade perceber a integração das TIC em contextos educativos e as respostas dos professores às novas tecnologias. Todavia, actualmente começa a haver necessidade de repensar as práticas pedagógicas que geram processos metodológicos de mudança ou se persistem práticas pedagógicas tradicionais e, ainda, quem as realiza, em que contextos e que preocupações têm estes professores. Este texto tem como propósito apresentar concepções dos professores sobre o que é uma boa prática e referir algumas experiências realizadas pelos professores em sala de aula.

The potentialities of ICT in education bring about changes in the teaching and learning methodologies, in the places where you learn and in the way you learn. This demands a reflection not only on the ways of learning, but also on the support resources, so that learning can take place and, of course, it is indispensable to understand the teachers’ answer to the digital challenges. Thus, the purpose of this analysis is to reflect about technological trends in an educational context and their underlying models by analyzing the role played by digital textbooks in Portugal in an innovating context. This way, we intend to contribute to an educational policy as we plan to relate the teachers’ training to the increasing development of the digital textbooks and we also intend to contribute to the understanding of a didactic resource which is closely related to the learning processes which resort to advanced technology.

Actualmente é indiscutível o papel das TIC como recurso pedagógico no processo de ensino-aprendizagem. Esta integração implica riscos, desafios, promessas e novas oportunidades que permitem a criação de um cenário educacional mais diversificado, mais aberto, mais comunicativo e mais abrangente. Esta comunicação apresenta dois casos de aplicação das TIC com recurso à plataforma Moodle: no 1º ciclo do Ensino Básico e no Ensino Superior. Esta mostrou ser uma plataforma flexível, pois adapta-se a destinatários com necessidades e objectivos diferentes, e que promove entusiasmo e motivação para a aprendizagem melhorando as práticas que se desenvolvem nas aulas.

The evolution of the electrical grid into a smart grid, allowing user production, storage and exchange of energy, remote control of appliances, and in general optimizations over how the energy is managed and consumed, is also an evolution into a complex Information and Communication Technology (ICT) system. With the goal of promoting an integrated and interoperable smart grid, a number of organizations all over the world started uncoordinated standardization activities, which caused the emergence of a large number of incompatible architectures and standards. There are now new standardization activities which have the goal of organizing existing standards and produce best practices to choose the right approach(es) to be employed in specific smart grid designs. This paper follows the lead of NIST and ETSI/CEN/CENELEC approaches in trying to provide taxonomy of existing solutions; our contribution reviews and relates current ICT state-of-the-art, with the objective of forecasting future trends based on the orientation of current efforts and on relationships between them. The resulting taxonomy provides guidelines for further studies of the architectures, and highlights how the standards in the last mile of the smart grid are converging to common solutions to improve ICT infrastructure interoperability.

O estudo que apresentamos tem como objetivos de investigação contribuir para o desenvolvimento global das crianças com Necessidades Educativas Especiais, nomeadamente, portadoras de Dislexia, designadamente em aulas onde são lecionados conteúdos de Ciências da Natureza e de Matemática, e conceber um recurso didático apoiado nas TIC que seja adequado à utilização em sala de aula por alunos com dislexia. Neste sentido, o estudo foi orientado pelas seguintes questões de investigação: A utilização do Scratch é adequada e exequível no trabalho quotidiano de alunos portadores de Dislexia? e Em que medida o Scratch pode contribuir para um melhor envolvimento dos alunos portadores de Dislexia na realização das tarefas propostas? O presente trabalho segue uma metodologia de carácter qualitativo, centrando-se no estudo de caso. Tentou-se dar uma resposta à reduzida utilização do software Scratch no ensino das Ciências da Natureza e Matemática como instrumentos viáveis para uma aprendizagem de sucesso em alunos portadores de Dislexia. Este estudo foi aplicado a três alunos do 4º ano, com este diagnóstico, de um agrupamento de escolas do concelho de Viseu. Para dar resposta às questões de investigação supracitadas foram implementadas e projetadas duas atividades no software Scratch para serem desenvolvidas em duas situações formativas contextualizadas. O subdomínio que se pretendeu trabalhar foi “A importância da água para os seres vivos” articulando com o conteúdo dos volumes. Os dados foram recolhidos através da análise dos Programas Educativos Individuais de cada um dos alunos participantes, das entrevistas às docentes de Educação Especial, de gravações áudio, fotografias, trabalhos dos alunos e os registos da professora investigadora. Os resultados obtidos permitiram caracterizar o modo como os alunos, portadores de dislexia, se envolveram com o Scratch na aquisição de conhecimento. Permitiram ainda demonstrar aos professores que é possível construir atividades nesta ferramenta envolvendo conteúdos curriculares interdisciplinares.

O diagnóstico da malária é realizado rotineiramente pelo exame da gota espessa, entretanto, esta técnica requer o treinamento de microscopistas e pode consumir muito tempo. Foi realizado um estudo de concordância de dois testes rápidos (Optimal-IT® e ICT P.f./P.v.®) com a gota espessa, na atenção básica de saúde, em Manaus.
