Quinoxaline, its derivatives and applications: A state of the art review.

Quinoxaline derivatives are an important class of heterocycle compounds, where N replaces some carbon atoms in the ring of naphthalene. Its molecular formula is C8H6N2, formed by the fusion of two aromatic rings, benzene and pyrazine. It is rare in natural state, but their synthesis is easy to perform. In this review the State of the Art will be presented, which includes a summary of the progress made over the past years in the knowledge of the structure and mechanism of the quinoxaline and quinoxaline derivatives, associated medical and biomedical value as well as industrial value. Modifying quinoxaline structure it is possible to obtain a wide variety of biomedical applications, namely antimicrobial activities and chronic and metabolic diseases treatment.

Realidade Imersiva Aplicada a Espaços Culturais

Informação é o conceito genérico de tudo que possa representar, conhecimento ou comunicação. Trata-se de conhecimento registado de forma impressa ou digital, oral ou audiovisual, mas ainda pode ser registada em suporte físico. Desde o início da civilização que o Ser Humano tenta criar novas formas de transmitir informação, antes da invenção da forma escrita era utilizado o método do desenho para descrever a realidade, este método ao longo do tempo foi evoluindo, ganhando mais qualidade, pormenor e suportes mais evoluídos. Mas sempre com a mesma intenção, a de conseguir transmitir de forma mais direta e percetível informação a qualquer individuo. Dado isto, o Ser Humano sempre produziu arte e a foi preservando para mostrar aos vindouros. Neste processo, os museus em conjunto com espaços culturais e artísticos, foram assumindo um papel de relevo na sociedade. Mas inicialmente o objetivo principal dos museus era o de preservar e expor artefactos históricos e culturais. A grande evolução tecnológica dos últimos anos veio dotar o Ser Humano com formas de aceder à informação tão simples e diversificadas, que no passado eram completamente impensáveis e certamente que no futuro irão ser descobertas ainda mais formas de registar e propagar a informação. Assim o presente trabalho descreve a investigação realizada, através de uma recolha de bibliografia, levantamento do estado-da-arte, que pretende descobrir se a construção de visitas virtuais imersivas é uma boa forma para mostrar um espaço cultural ao público, que está cada vez mais exigente e disperso geograficamente. Além do levantamento são estudados alguns exemplos de visitas virtuais existentes, de modo a detetar boas praticas e formas mais usuais para a criação de uma visita. Finalmente foi descrito todo o processo desde a recolha de informação até à própria implementação, construção de um protótipo para apresentar ao utilizador o espaço de uma fundação, a do escultor José Rodrigues. Este protótipo tem por objetivo mostrar ao utilizador a fundação o mais aproximado do real possível.

RISK FACTORS OF HIV-1 VERTICAL TRANSMISSION (VT) AND THE INFLUENCE OF ANTIRETROVIRAL THERAPY (ART) IN PREGNANCY OUTCOME

In the absence of intervention, the rate of vertical transmission of HIV can range from 15-45%. With the inclusion of antiretroviral drugs during pregnancy and the choice of delivery route this amounts to less than 2%. However ARV use during pregnancy has generated several questions regarding the adverse effects of the gestational and neonatal outcome. This study aims to analyze the risk factors for vertical transmission of HIV-1 seropositive pregnant women living in Rio Grande and the influence of the use of ARVs in pregnancy outcome. Among the 262 pregnant women studied the rate of vertical transmission of HIV was found to be 3.8%. Regarding the VT, there was a lower risk of transmission when antiretroviral drugs were used and prenatal care was conducted at the referral service. However, the use of ART did not influence the outcome of pregnancy. However, initiation of prenatal care after the first trimester had an influence on low birth weight, as well as performance of less than six visits increased the risk of prematurity. Therefore, the risk factors analyzed in this study appear to be related to the realization of inadequate pre-natal and maternal behavior.

Neste artigo procuro delimitar o universo de potenciais lesados, titulares de um direito de acção directa contra o segurador num seguro de responsabilidade civil celebrado pe los administradores de sociedades anónimas em cumprimento do dever de prestar caução consagrado no art. 396.º CSC. Defendo a identidade entre esse universo e o dos benefi ciários de qualquer outro meio de satisfação deste dever de prestar caução. Delimito esse universo por referência às categorias de sujeitos tutelados no CSC. Por fi m, faço uso dos resultados da análise para sustentar que integra esse universo o próprio Estado, na sua qualidade de credor de indemnizações fundadas em responsabilidade tributária, mas já não os credores de indemnizações que baseiem as suas pretensões no novo regime de responsabilidade ambiental

The Portuguese contemporary art as an investment

In this paper we investigate what drives the prices of Portuguese contemporary art at auction and explore the potential of art as an asset. Based on a hedonic prices model we construct an Art Price Index as a proxy for the Portuguese contemporary art market over the period of 1994 to 2014. A performance analysis suggests that art underperforms the S&P500 but overperforms the Portuguese stock market and American Government bonds. However, It does it at the cost of higher risk. Results also show that art as low correlation with financial markets, evidencing some potential in risk mitigation when added to traditional equity portfolios.

Augmenting spaces and creating interactive experiences using video camera networks

This research addresses the problem of creating interactive experiences to encourage people to explore spaces. Besides the obvious spaces to visit, such as museums or art galleries, spaces that people visit can be, for example, a supermarket or a restaurant. As technology evolves, people become more demanding in the way they use it and expect better forms of interaction with the space that surrounds them. Interaction with the space allows information to be transmitted to the visitors in a friendly way, leading visitors to explore it and gain knowledge. Systems to provide better experiences while exploring spaces demand hardware and software that is not in the reach of every space owner either because of the cost or inconvenience of the installation, that can damage artefacts or the space environment. We propose a system adaptable to the spaces, that uses a video camera network and a wi-fi network present at the space (or that can be installed) to provide means to support interactive experiences using the visitor’s mobile device. The system is composed of an infrastructure (called vuSpot), a language grammar used to describe interactions at a space (called XploreDescription), a visual tool used to design interactive experiences (called XploreBuilder) and a tool used to create interactive experiences (called urSpace). By using XploreBuilder, a tool built of top of vuSpot, a user with little or no experience in programming can define a space and design interactive experiences. This tool generates a description of the space and of the interactions at that space (that complies with the XploreDescription grammar). These descriptions can be given to urSpace, another tool built of top of vuSpot, that creates the interactive experience application. With this system we explore new forms of interaction and use mobile devices and pico projectors to deliver additional information to the users leading to the creation of interactive experiences. The several components are presented as well as the results of the respective user tests, which were positive. The design and implementation becomes cheaper, faster, more flexible and, since it does not depend on the knowledge of a programming language, accessible for the general public.
