Toimittajavalinta strategiselle komponentille akselistotehtaassa

Diplomityön tavoitteena oli löytää uusi kaarevahampaisten kartiopyörien toimittaja tulevaisuuden tuoteperheelle Sisu Akselit Oy:ssä. Kirjallisuustutkimuksen osuudessa perehdyttiin toimittajanvalintaprosessin eri osa-alueisiin. Käsiteltäviä alueita olivat mm. markkinatekijät, toimittajasuhteen ominaisuudet ja valintaprosessin työvaiheet sekä muutamat prosessin työkalut. Soveltavan osan alussa muodostettiin malli valintaprosessin läpiviemiseksi. Malli koostuu viidestä vaiheesta, joista ensimmäiset neljä toteutettiin diplomityön puitteista. Ensimmäinen vaihe sisältää yrityksen sisäisen analyysin, toinen toimittajamarkkinoiden tutkimuksen yrityksen ulkopuolella, kolmas hankinnan strategiavaihtoehtojen määrittämisen ja neljäs valintojen tekemisen. Viidennessä vaiheessa sovitaan toimituksen yksityiskohdista ja aloitetaan toimitukset. Työn tuloksena saatiin määritettyä toimittajasuhdestrategia Sisu Akselit Oy:n kaarevahampaisten kartiopyörien hankinnalle uudella tuoteperheellä. Valittuun suhdestrategiaan rajattiin suuresta joukosta kolme parhaiten sopivaa potentiaalista toimittajaa. Markkinoilla olevien valmistajien toiminnan tehokkuudessa havaittiin suuria eroja. Näin valintojen tuloksena arvioidaan saavutettavan kustannussäästöjä nykytilaan verrattuna. Työn sivutuotteena syntyi strategisen komponentin toimittajavalintamalli, jota voitaneen yrityksessä soveltaa jatkossakin.

Singular Reference Without Singular Thought

Abstract In this paper I challenge the widespread assumption that the conditions for singular reference are more or less the same as the conditions for singular thought. I claim that we refer singularly to things without thinking singularly about them more often than it is usually believed. I first argue that we should take the idea that singular thought is non-descriptive thought very seriously. If we do that, it seems that we cannot be so liberal about what counts as acquaintance; only perception (and memory) will do. I also briefly discuss and reject semantic instrumentalism. Finally, I argue that while singular reference is cheap, singular thought comes only at a price.

Energiatehokkuuden parantaminen Lappeenrannan seudun opiskelija-asuntosäätiön rakennuksissa

Jatkuvasti nouseva energian hinta ja kiristyneet energiatehokkuusmääräykset asettavat opiskelijoille vuokra-asuntoja tuottaville palveluntarjoajille uusia haasteita. Opiskelijoiden tulotaso ei seuraa energian nopeaa hinnannousua ja jotta pystytään säilyttämään opiskelija-asuntojen hinta riittävän alhaisena, on kiinnitettävä enemmän huomiota energiankulutukseen. Tämä diplomityö antaa vahvan alkusysäyksen Lappeenrannan seudun opiskelija-asuntosäätiön (LOAS) energiate-hokkuustyölle ja tavoitteena on tehdä tehokkaasta energiankäytöstä jatkuvaa joka-päiväistä toimintaa. Energiatehokkuustyöhön ryhdyttiin tutustumalla valittujen vertailuyhteisöjen energiatehokkuustoimintaan ja energiatehokkuuteen Suomen rakennuskannassa. Tilastollisesta tarkastelusta siirryttiin tutkimaan LOAS:n kiinteistökannan nykytilaa asuinrakennuksille suunnitellun energiakatselmusmallin avulla. Tehtyjen ha-vaintojen pohjalta toteutettiin erilaisten energiansäästötoimenpiteiden vaikutta-vuuskokeiluja yksittäisissä asuntokohteissa. Saatujen tulosten pohjalta määriteltiin toimenpiteet energiatehokkuustoiminnan jatkamiselle ja parhaiden toimenpiteiden laajentamisesta koskemaan koko LOAS:n rakennuskantaa. Työssä luotiin suositukset myös LOAS:n tuleville laajemmille asuntokohteiden perusparannuksille, joilla energiatehokkuuden tasoa saadaan taloudellisesti kannattavalla tavalla merkittävästi parannettua. Työn kuluessa saatiin aikaiseksi energiatehokkuuden parantamisen kannalta merkittäviä tuloksia. Tehtyjen toimenpiteiden kokonaisvaltaisen käyttöönoton jälkeen LOAS:n energiatehokkuus on valtakunnallista huipputasoa opiskelija-asumista tarjoavien yhteisöjen vuosittaisessa vertailussa.

Maakaasun paineenvähennysaseman paineenvähennyslaitteen mitoitus

Diplomityö tehtiin maakaasun paineenvähennysaseman paineenvähennyslaitteen mitoituksesta. Työn kuluessa suunniteltiin ja toteutettiin mitoitusohjelma maakaasun paineenvähennyslaitteen mitoitukseen. Työssä tutustutaan maakaasun putkivirtaukseen ja paineenvähennysaseman paineenvähennyslaitteeseen. Työssä selvitetään paineenvähennyslaitteen eri osien toiminta ja tarve, sekä kuinka niiden mitoitus ja valinta tapahtuu. Lopputuloksena työstä saatiin suunniteltua ja toteutettua mitoitusohjelma paineenvähennyslaitteelle. Mitoitusohjelman avulla saadaan helposti ja nopeasti selville sopivat osat paineenvähennyslaitteeseen halutulla painetasolla ja ainemäärällä. Ohjelman on tarkoitus helpottaa ja nopeuttaa paineenvähennyslaitteen mitoitusta ja suunnittelua.

NEW BUSINESS MODELS – Sustainability as a main focus

A business model is a structure frame of an organization that can bring significant benefits and competitive advantage when structured properly. The aim of this paper was to observe and describe development of business models’ and identify factors and elements of a business model that are in a key role from the perspective of an organizational sustainability. One is striving to bring out in this thesis how should truly sustainable business model look like and what are main characteristics of it. Additionally, some recommendations that could be helpful in order to build sustainable and balanced business model in a company are presented in this work. The meaning was to make theoretical and in some extent practical acquaintance with such new business models as open business model and sustainable business model. Long-term sustainability achievement in a company was in a centric role and used as a main criteria when constructing sustainable business model structure. The main research question in this study aims to answer: What a firm should consider in order to develop profitable and sustainable business model? This study is qualitative in nature and it was conducted using content analyze as a main method of this research. The perspective of the target data in this study is an outlook of its producers of how sustainability is reached in an organization throw business model and which practices are important and has to be taken into account. The material was gathered mainly from secondary sources and the theoretical framework was outright built based on secondary data. The secondary data that have been mostly dissertations, academic writings, cases, academic journals and academic books have been analyzed from the point of view of sustainability perspective. As a result it became evident that a structure of a business model and its implementation along with a strategy is often what leads companies to success. However, for the most part, overall business environment decides and delimits how the most optimal business model should be constructed in order to be effective and sustainable. The evaluation of key factors and elements in business model leading organization to sustainability should be examined throw triple bottom line perspective, where key dimensions are environmental, social and economic. It was concluded that dimensions should be evaluated as equal in order to attain total long lasting sustainability, contradicting traditional perspective in business where profit production is seen as only main goal of a business.

Paradigms and prisons: a narrative of translation and transformation : my hero's journey from "at-risk" youth to teacher/learner in a jail setting /

All life is suffering. Life is the pursuit ofhappiness. These are two foundational Buddhist dictums that, in their simplicity, I have entirely misunderstood regarding their depth, misreading them as contradictory. Indeed, my superficial interpretations led me to Thoreau's life ofquiet desperation and deep depression. We come to know and bring understanding to our lives by storying them. My own Hero's Journey, the path from my egoic selftoward the universal Self, can be understood as the resultant translations and transformations. Inevitably each of us is involved in such a story, though most are unaware of the stages along our own Hero's journey. ' Narrative honours writing as a means of knowing. The contemplative reflection allows insight into our imprisoning paradigms, beliefs, behaviours, and blind spots. My research revisits and explores nodal experiences along my Hero's Journey through 4 categories: self, society, soil, and Self. While the value of this process of narrative inquiry lay in its ability to come to know and understand one's self, perhaps its greater value is of a more universal nature. My inquiry, while adding to the body of academic educational narrative literature, may also illuminate a path to educators, students, and all interested, encouraging a response to the call of their own Hero's journey. I am a teacher/learner in a jail setting, working with youth between the ages of 12 and 18 who have committed crimes such as armed robbery, assault, rape, and murder. As this thesis follows my continual development from egoic self/teacher/learner to universal Self/Teacher/Learner, it also enables me to both consciously and unconsciously open the ways in which I expand my care, compassion, and love to work with at-risk youth.

Charles Larned letter, April 3, 1813.

Charles Larned (1791-1834) was a lawyer and American military officer who served during the War of 1812. He was the son of Simon Larned (1753-1817), who served as a captain in the Revolutionary War and was a member of the United States Congress from Massachusetts from 1804-1805. Charles studied law in the office of Henry Clay in Kentucky, and was dining with a group of prominent citizens when word was received that General William Henry Harrison could soon be overpowered by General Henry Proctor. Colonel Owen, a member of the group, organized a regiment to reinforce Harrison’s troops. Larned became a member and subsequently survived the River Raisin Massacre and was later present at the Battle of the Thames. He was also part of a group of men who learned of General William Hull’s plan to surrender Detroit to the British and planned to overtake him should this occur. However, the plan failed, Hull did surrender and the men became prisoners of the British. After the war, Larned became a lawyer, and served as Attorney General of Michigan Territory during the Black Hawk War. During the cholera epidemic of 1834, he worked tirelessly to assist others, but was stricken with the disease and died. Our dear Father we hope & trust is now in Green Bush, where he will probably remain a month perhaps & from thence he expects to go to Sacket’s harbor—at which place you know our troops are fast collecting-- We shall hope to see him either here or there before he goes. William Hamilton Merritt Welland Canal circular, July 12, 1823

William Hamilton Merritt (1793-1862) was a soldier, merchant, and politician who was instrumental in the promotion and development of the Welland Canal. After serving with the Lincoln militia during the War of 1812, Merritt became a merchant in St. Catharines, and purchased some land on Twelve Mile Creek on which he ran a sawmill and constructed a grist mill. He initially envisioned a canal between the Welland River and Twelve Mile Creek, which evolved into a plan to link Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. This would enable goods from western Canada to be conveniently shipped to Montreal and Great Britain through the St. Lawrence, while bypassing the Niagara portage. His plan met with opposition for financial and political reasons, as well as from those along the Niagara portage whose businesses would suffer if the canal were built. Despite this opposition, the Welland Canal Company was chartered by the Upper Canadian assembly in January, 1824. Construction on the canal began later that year, and was completed in 1829.

La citoyenneté chez les musulmans du Québec : analyse qualitative d'entrevues avec des personnes influentes

Ce mémoire de maîtrise s’intéresse au sujet de la citoyenneté telle que vue par treize personnalités musulmanes influentes du Québec. Ces personnes sont largement impliquées dans différentes sphères des affaires publiques, telles que religieuse, politique, communautaire, académique et économique. L’objectif de l’étude qualitative de ces entrevues de type ouvert est de comprendre comment ces personnes perçoivent leur citoyenneté et les expériences personnelles sociales qui influencent leurs visions respectives à partir de la sémantique de leur articulation de la relation de la foi musulmane avec la notion de citoyenneté. Le contenu de ces entrevues a été soumis à une analyse de discours et nous en avons ressorti « une théorie de la citoyenneté chez les musulmans du Québec » basée sur des définitions différentes de la citoyenneté : une citoyenneté qui est « à part entière » en contradiction avec une autre de « seconde zone » ou de « seconde classe », toutes les deux définies par un ensemble de droits et de devoirs. Cette logique de définition de la citoyenneté se justifie par un cumul d’identités durant la trajectoire personnelle de chacun en faisant intervenir ses priorités et ses préoccupations courantes tout en trouvant sa source d’inspiration dans l’islam. La nationalité canadienne/québécoise se complète par l’islam comme mode de vie au sein de cette définition de la citoyenneté, selon cette même logique, à l’intérieur d’une idéologie nationaliste canadienne.
