A Learning Assistant program that recruits strong STEM undergraduates to become mathematics teachers was explored through a qualitative study. Three program participants were purposely selected and interviewed. The program reaffirmed one participant’s choice to become a teacher and clarified for one that it might be a career for him.

Formal education programs in prisons have had success in reducing recidivism, but the introduction of informal learning can have additional benefits and longer lasting effects. This paper addresses recidivism and its effects on inmates and society at large and how prison educators can facilitate self-directed learning in prisons through Garrison’s model.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of a computer-based Integrated Learning Systems (ILS) model used with adult high school students engaging mathematics activities. This study examined achievement, attitudinal and behavior differences between students completing ILS activities in a traditional, individualized format compared to cooperative learning groups.

Holistic learning theory (Yang, 2003) identified explicit, implicit, and emancipatory knowledge facets in learning. A phenomenological study of how participants’ experienced interactions between knowledge facets showed the facets expressed, informed, changed, and guided one another. The complexity of learning and the role of spirituality in learning were explored.

Twelve exemplary service providers from the most highly-acclaimed resorts discussed and demonstrated how they deliver award-winning service. Three emergent themes offer insights to improve service quality: emotional generosity, exemplary communication, and effective interactions of culture, tradition and control. These themes support current literature on human resource development and service quality.

Adult educators are only beginning to understand the interaction between learning and emotion (Dirkx, 2006; O’Regan, 2003). Understanding these concepts and their interaction through the constructivist perspective presents a unique opportunity to appreciate the learner’s perspective and the construction of knowledge through experience.

Older adults can bring decades of knowledge and expertise to the mentoring table. We explore where older adults serve as mentors and the educational benefits they derive from mentoring, in light of prejudices ascribed through ageism. As mentors, older adults can remain engaged and continue to find meaning beyond retirement.

Adults participate in communities of practice (COP) in diverse environments. As the number of US citizens 55 years or older increases, so might the number residing in adult living environments. COP research would be valuable in such settings.
