This paper presents the control and synchronization of chaos by designing linear feedback controllers. The linear feedback control problem for nonlinear systems has been formulated under optimal control theory viewpoint. Asymptotic stability of the closed-loop nonlinear system is guaranteed by means of a Lyapunov function which can clearly be seen to be the solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation thus guaranteeing both stability and optimality. The formulated theorem expresses explicitly the form of minimized functional and gives the sufficient conditions that allow using the linear feedback control for nonlinear system. The numerical simulations were provided in order to show the effectiveness of this method for the control of the chaotic Rossler system and synchronization of the hyperchaotic Rossler system. This paper addresses the H ∞ state-feedback control design problem of discretetime Markov jump linear systems. First, under the assumption that the Markov parameter is measured, the main contribution is on the LMI characterization of all linear feedback controllers such that the closed loop output remains bounded by a given norm level. This results allows the robust controller design to deal with convex bounded parameter uncertainty, probability uncertainty and cluster availability of the Markov mode. For partly unknown transition probabilities, the proposed design problem is proved to be less conservative than one available in the current literature. An example is solved for illustration and comparisons. © 2011 IFAC.

This paper aims with the use of linear matrix inequalities approach (LMIs) for application in active vibration control problems in smart strutures. A robust controller for active damping in a panel was designed with piezoelectrical actuators in optimal locations for illustration of the main proposal. It was considered, in the simulations of the closed-loop, a model identified by eigensystem realization algorithm (ERA) and reduced by modal decomposition. We tested two differents techniques to solve the problem. The first one uses LMI approach by state-feedback based in an observer design, considering several simultaneous constraints as: a decay rate, limited input on the actuators, bounded output peak (output energy) and robustness to parametic uncertainties. The results demonstrated the vibration attenuation in the structure by controlling only the first modes and the increased damping in the bandwidth of interest. However, it is possible to occur spillover effects, because the design has not been done considering the dynamic uncertainties related with high frequencies modes. In this sense, the second technique uses the classical H. output feedback control, also solved by LMI approach, considering robustness to residual dynamic to overcome the problem found in the first test. The results are compared and discussed. The responses shown the robust performance of the system and the good reduction of the vibration level, without increase mass.

In this work, the linear and nonlinear feedback control techniques for chaotic systems were been considered. The optimal nonlinear control design problem has been resolved by using Dynamic Programming that reduced this problem to a solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation. In present work the linear feedback control problem has been reformulated under optimal control theory viewpoint. The formulated Theorem expresses explicitly the form of minimized functional and gives the sufficient conditions that allow using the linear feedback control for nonlinear system. The numerical simulations for the Rössler system and the Duffing oscillator are provided to show the effectiveness of this method. Copyright © 2005 by ASME.

In this paper we study the behavior of a semi-active suspension witch external vibrations. The mathematical model is proposed coupled to a magneto rheological (MR) damper. The goal of this work is stabilize of the external vibration that affect the comfort and durability an vehicle, to control these vibrations we propose the combination of two control strategies, the optimal linear control and the magneto rheological (MR) damper. The optimal linear control is a linear feedback control problem for nonlinear systems, under the optimal control theory viewpoint We also developed the optimal linear control design with the scope in to reducing the external vibrating of the nonlinear systems in a stable point. Here, we discuss the conditions that allow us to the linear optimal control for this kind of non-linear system.

We proposed a simple feedback control method to suppress chaotic behavior in oscillators with limited power supply. The small-amplitude controlling signal is applied directly to the power supply system, so as to alter the characteristic curve of the driving motor. Numerical results are presented showing the method efficiency for a wide range of control parameters. Moreover, we have found that, for some parameters, this kind of control may introduce coexisting periodic attractors with complex basins of attraction and, therefore, serious problems with predictability of the final state the system will asymptote to. In this work, we deal with a micro electromechanical system (MEMS), represented by a micro-accelerometer. Through numerical simulations, it was found that for certain parameters, the system has a chaotic behavior. The chaotic behaviors in a fractional order are also studied numerically, by historical time and phase portraits, and the results are validated by the existence of positive maximal Lyapunov exponent. Three control strategies are used for controlling the trajectory of the system: State Dependent Riccati Equation (SDRE) Control, Optimal Linear Feedback Control, and Fuzzy Sliding Mode Control. The controls proved effective in controlling the trajectory of the system studied and robust in the presence of parametric errors.

The aim of this paper is to apply methods from optimal control theory, and from the theory of dynamic systems to the mathematical modeling of biological pest control. The linear feedback control problem for nonlinear systems has been formulated in order to obtain the optimal pest control strategy only through the introduction of natural enemies. Asymptotic stability of the closed-loop nonlinear Kolmogorov system is guaranteed by means of a Lyapunov function which can clearly be seen to be the solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation, thus guaranteeing both stability and optimality. Numerical simulations for three possible scenarios of biological pest control based on the Lotka-Volterra models are provided to show the effectiveness of this method. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. In this work the chaotic behavior of a micro-mechanical resonator with electrostatic forces on both sides is suppressed. The aim is to control the system in an orbit of the analytical solution obtained by the Method of Multiple Scales. Two control strategies are used for controlling the trajectory of the system, namely: State Dependent Riccati Equation (SDRE) Control and Optimal Linear Feedback Control (OLFC). The controls proved effectiveness in controlling the trajectory of the system. Additionally, the robustness of each strategy is tested considering the presence of parametric errors and measurement noise in control. © 2012 American Institute of Physics.

The performance of the optimal linear feedback control and of the state-dependent Riccati equation control techniques applied to control and to suppress the chaotic motion in the atomic force microscope are analyzed. In addition, the sensitivity of each control technique regarding to parametric uncertainties are considered. Simulation results show the advantages and disadvantages of each technique. © 2013 Brazilian Society for Automatics - SBA.
