Nuclear magnetic relaxation for the spin-degenerate Anderson model

A renormalization-group calculation of the temperature-dependent nuclear spin relaxation rate for a magnetic impurity in a metallic host is reported. The calculation follows a simplified procedure, which produces accurate rates in the low-temperature Fermi-liquid regime, although yielding only qualitatively reliable results at higher temperatures. In all cases considered, as the temperature T diminishes, the rates peak before decaying linearly to zero in the Fermi-liquid range. For T → 0, the results agree very well with Shiba's expression relating the low-temperature coefficient of the relaxation rate to the squared zero-temperature susceptibility. In the Kondo limit, the enhanced susceptibility associated with the Kondo resonance produces a very sharp peak in the relaxation rate near the Kondo temperature. © 1991.

Influência do dimorfismo sexual sobre a morfologia da siringe de galinha d'angola (Numida meleagris)

Este estudo teve como objetivo realizar uma descrição morfológica e comparativa da siringe, órgão responsável pelo canto das aves, na espécie Numida meleagris. Para isso foram utilizados cinco machos e cinco fêmeas de galinha d'angola, a fim de verificar a sintopia (traquéia, músculos traqueais) e o dimorfismo sexual da siringe. Verificou-se que a siringe se localiza na bifurcação da traquéia e apresenta maior número de cartilagens nos machos. Nos machos, a inserção do músculo traqueal lateral bem como a origem do músculo esterno traqueal localizam-se mais caudalmente e são mais largos em relação às fêmeas. As diferenças existentes entre machos e fêmeas de galinha d'angola revelam a elevada capacidade das fêmeas em produzir sons semelhantes a tô fraco enquanto que os machos emitem arrulhos e cacarejos.

Influência da escala na análise morfométrica de microbacias hidrográficas

In order to verify the different scales in physical analysis of watersheds, the geomorphic quantitative analysis was done to distinguish homogeneous areas within this land unit. The variables studied were the dimensions, drainage pattern and relief characteristics. The study area is the watershed of the Corrego da Cachoeira, São Paulo State, Brazil. The cartographic scale 1: 50000 (IBGE) and 1: 10000 (IGC) were used to delineate the drainage network and study the morphometric characteristics. The watershed is characterized as an exoreic, fluvial drainage with consequent streams and drainage pattern. The values of the drainage density, frequency of rivers and the ratio of bifurcation are considered low, indicating the formation of the soil on permeable rock. The low values suggested a watershed with relatively mild relief. The detail of the cartography mapping analysed with field study data showed higher values of hydrological compartments and length of the drainage network, reflecting changes in the results obtained on the physical variables analysed.

Begomovírus infectando a cultura de pimentão no estado de São Paulo

Vírus do gênero Begomovirus são transmitidos por mosca-branca Bemisia tabaci G., e constituem um dos problemas fitossanitários sérios em diversas culturas. Plantas de pimentão coletadas em oito regiões do Estado de São Paulo, foram submetidas a extração de DNA total e PCR com primers universais e degenerados para begomovírus, que amplificam parte da região codificadora para a proteína capsicial. Os dados indicam a presença de begomovírus em pimentão nas cinco regiões coletadas. Análise das seqüências do DNA viral e análise filogenética revelaram identidade com dois begomovírus nativo da América. Tomato severe rugose virus - ToSRV (AY029750) e com Tomato yellow vein streak virus (ToYVSV, AY829113), espécies descritas infectando tomateiro no Brasil. A presença de begomovírus em pimentão foi verificada nas regiões de Alvinlândia, Ubirajara, Botucatu, Elias-Fausto, Paulínia, Mogi Guaçu, Paranapanema e Pirajú.

On the global dynamics of the Rabinovich system

In this paper by using the Poincare compactification in R(3) make a global analysis of the Rabinovich system(x) over dot = hy - v(1)x + yz, (y) over dot = hx - v(2)y - xz, (z) over dot = -v(3)z + xy,with (x, y, z) is an element of R(3) and ( h, v(1), v(2), v(3)) is an element of R(4). We give the complete description of its dynamics on the sphere at infinity. For ten sets of the parameter values the system has either first integrals or invariants. For these ten sets we provide the global phase portrait of the Rabinovich system in the Poincare ball (i.e. in the compactification of R(3) with the sphere S(2) of the infinity). We prove that for convenient values of the parameters the system has two families of singularly degenerate heteroclinic cycles. Then changing slightly the parameters we numerically found a four wings butterfly shaped strange attractor.
