O presente artigo trata da interdisciplinaridade, da psiquiatria e da atenção psicossocial. Ao longo do texto, faz-se um relato histórico a respeito da constituição e da crise do saber científico organizado em disciplinas, analisa-se a dificuldade teórica de se conceituar a interdisciplinaridade e, ao final, aborda-se a psiquiatria e sua relação com a interdisciplinaridade na realidade da atenção psicossocial. Os autores defendem que a psiquiatria, por sua história, guarda singularidades que a diferenciam de outras especialidades médicas e que - a um primeiro momento - poderiam fazê-la ir em direção contrária à interdisciplinaridade. Os autores concluem que os serviços de atenção psicossocial, pelas características que lhes são inerentes, são lugares privilegiados para a formação psiquiátrica com características interdisciplinares.

M. Manoel and I. Stewart 0101) classify Z(2) circle plus Z(2)-equivariant bifurcation problems up to codimension 3 and 1 modal parameter, using the classical techniques of singularity theory of Golubistky and Schaeffer [8]. In this paper we classify these same problems using an alternative form: the path formulation (Theorem 6.1). One of the advantages of this method is that the calculates to obtain the normal forms are easier. Furthermore, in our classification we observe the presence of only one modal parameter in the generic core. It differs from the classical classification where the core has 2 modal parameters. We finish this work comparing our classification to the one obtained in [10].

In this article we show that for corank 1, quasi-homogeneous and finitely determined map germs f : (C-n, 0)-> (C-3, 0), n >= 3 one can obtain formulae for the polar multiplicities defined on the following stable types of f, f(Delta(f) and f(Sigma(n-2,1)(f), in terms of the weights and degrees of f. As a consequence we show how to compute the Euler obstruction of such stable types, also in terms of the weights and degrees of f.

Two applications of the modified Chebyshev algorithm are considered. The first application deals with the generation of orthogonal polynomials associated with a weight function having singularities on or near the end points of the interval of orthogonality. The other application involves the generation of real Szego polynomials.

A study of the analytic behavior of different few-particle scattering amplitudes at low energies in two space dimensions is presented. Such a study is of use in modeling and understanding different few-particle processes at low energies. A detailed discussion of the energy and the momentum dependence of the partial-wave on-the-energy-shell and off-the-energy-shell two-particle t matrices is given. These t-matrix elements tend to zero as the energy and momentum variables tend to zero. The multiple-scattering series is used to show that the connected three-to-three amplitudes diverge in the low-energy-momentum limit. Unitarity relations are used to show that the connected two-to-three and one-to-three amplitudes have specific logarithmic singularities at the m-particle breakup threshold. The subenergy singularity in the two-to-three amplitudes is also studied, and comments are made on some applications of the present study in different problems of ph cal interest.

We compute the leading radiative correction to the Casimir force between two parallel plates in the lambdaPhi(4) theory. Dirichlet and periodic boundary conditions are considered. A heuristic approach, in which the Casimir energy is computed as the sum of one-loop corrected zero-point energies, is shown to yield incorrect results, but we show how to amend it. The technique is then used in the case of periodic boundary conditions to construct a perturbative expansion which is free of infrared singularities in the massless limit. In this case we also compute the next-to-leading order radiative correction, which turns out to be proportional to lambda(3/2).

Path formulation can be used to classify and structure efficiently multiparameter bifurcation problems around fundamental singularities: the cores. The non-degenerate umbilic singularities are the generic cores for four situations in corank 2: the general or gradient problems and the ℤ 2-equivariant (general or gradient) problems. Those categories determine an interesting 'Russian doll' type of structure in the universal unfoldings of the umbilic singularities. One advantage of our approach is that we can handle one, two or more parameters using the same framework (even considering some special parameter structure, for instance, some internal hierarchy). We classify the generic bifurcations that occur in those cases with one or two parameters.

Gauge fields in the light front are traditionally addressed via, the employment of an algebraic condition n·A = 0 in the Lagrangian density, where Aμ is the gauge field (Abelian or non-Abelian) and nμ is the external, light-like, constant vector which defines the gauge proper. However, this condition though necessary is not sufficient to fix the gauge completely; there still remains a residual gauge freedom that must be addressed appropriately. To do this, we need to define the condition (n·A) (∂·A) = 0 with n·A = 0 = ∂·A. The implementation of this condition in the theory gives rise to a gauge boson propagator (in momentum space) leading to conspicuous nonlocal singularities of the type (k·n)-α where α = 1, 2. These singularities must be conveniently treated, and by convenient we mean not only mathemathically well-defined but physically sound and meaningful as well. In calculating such a propagator for one and two noncovariant gauge bosons those singularities demand from the outset the use of a prescription such as the Mandelstam-Leibbrandt (ML) one. We show that the implementation of the ML prescription does not remove certain pathologies associated with zero modes. However we present a causal, singularity-softening prescription and show how to keep causality from being broken without the zero mode nuisance and letting only the propagation of physical degrees of freedom.

Since the very beginning of it, perhaps the subtlest of all gauges is the light-cone gauge, for its implementation leads to characteristic singularities that require some kind of special prescription to handle them in a. proper and consistent manner. The best known of these prescriptions is the Mandelstam-Leibbrandt one. In this work we revisit it showing that its status as a mere prescription is not appropriate but rather that its origin can be traced back to fundamental physical properties such as causality and covariantization methods. © World Scientific Publishing Company.

In this article we discuss some qualitative and geometric aspects of non-smooth dynamical systems theory. Our goal is to study the diagram bifurcation of typical singularities that occur generically in one parameter families of certain piecewise smooth vector fields named Refracted Systems. Such systems has a codimension-one submanifold as its discontinuity set. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd.
