The legislative reforms in university matters driven in recent years, beyond the provoked controversies, offer to universities the possibility to develop a new model in line with the European environment, focusing on quality aims and adapting to the socioeconomic current challenges. A new educational model centered on the student, on the formation of specific and transverse competitions, on the improvement of the employability and the access to the labor market, on the attraction and fixation of talent, is an indispensable condition for the effective social mobility and for the homogeneous development of a more responsible and sustainable socioeconomic and productive model

Stock market volatility and learning

Introducing bounded rationality in a standard consumption-based asset pricing model with time separable preferences strongly improves empirical performance. Learning causes momentum and mean reversion of returns and thereby excess volatility, persistence of price-dividend ratios, long-horizon return predictability and a risk premium, as in the habit model of Campbell and Cochrane (1999), but for lower risk aversion. This is obtained, even though our learning scheme introduces just one free parameter and we only consider learning schemes that imply small deviations from full rationality. The findings are robust to the learning rule used and other model features. What is key is that agents forecast future stock prices using past information on prices.

The Role of model uncertainty and learning in the U.S. postwar policy response to oil prices

This paper studies optimal monetary policy in a framework that explicitly accounts for policymakers' uncertainty about the channels of transmission of oil prices into the economy. More specfically, I examine the robust response to the real price of oil that US monetary authorities would have been recommended to implement in the period 1970 2009; had they used the approach proposed by Cogley and Sargent (2005b) to incorporate model uncertainty and learning into policy decisions. In this context, I investigate the extent to which regulator' changing beliefs over different models of the economy play a role in the policy selection process. The main conclusion of this work is that, in the specific environment under analysis, one of the underlying models dominates the optimal interest rate response to oil prices. This result persists even when alternative assumptions on the model's priors change the pattern of the relative posterior probabilities, and can thus be attributed to the presence of model uncertainty itself.

The effects of teacher talk on students’ oral productions

The present study is a brief personal enquiry into the teaching and learning of EFL in the classroom with an orientation to action and personal professional development. It focuses on teacher talk, making special emphasis on questions, as well as on students’ resulting oral productions. The research contains samples of empirical data, which include their interpretations in the light of relevant research literature, and a more personal overall reflection of the teaching practice. Both the analysis and the reflections derive to a large extent from the self-observation paper 1 (SO1) and the Practicum portfolio (PP) developed within the TED Masters Degree practicum stages

Entorn web per a consultes on-line sobre bases de dades d'imatges

Creació d'un entorn web que consisteix en un sistema per fer consultes en línia a bases de dades d'imatges. Aquestes consultes es fan per contingut, a partir de mètodes creats pel grup de recerca CAT (Color and Texture) del CVC (Centre de Visió per Computador). L'aplicació web permet afegir nous mètodes que els membres del grup han programat amb Matlab.

Generació i automatització d'ajudes on-line

El projecte té la finalitat de crear una aplicació en la plataforma Java pel departament de Documentació de l’empresa UNIT4 Ibérica, per tal de poder crear i desenvolupar les ajudes on-line dels productes que tenen actualment en el mercat. S’ha desenvolupat a les oficines que té UNIT4 Ibérica a Barberà del Vallès.

Sky Net : sistema de sincronización y control de versiones de documentos on-line

La función de la aplicación Sky Net (un sistema de control de versiones y sincronización de documentos on-line) será la de ofrecer un conjunto de herramientas capaces de establecer una comunicación cliente-servidor de forma transparente utilizando carpetas del disco duro. De esta forma el usuario final podrá tener todos sus documentos guardados en un servidor, poderlos recuperar en el momento que se desee, y tener los mismos documentos en todas las estaciones de trabajo que estén conectadas a la aplicación. Además se le añade una función de control de versiones que permitirá guardar el contenido de una carpeta bajo un identificador (nombre o versión), y poderlo recuperar más adelante aunque ya hayamos hecho modificaciones en los documentos de dicha carpeta. El proyecto se compone de dos aplicaciones: Sky Catcher, la aplicación cliente, y Sky Node, la aplicación servidor.

Generación de metadatos semánticos mediante juegos on-line

Actualmente se pretende que los ordenadores puedan entender la semántica de la información que hay en la Web y que sea posible integrar diversas fuentes de información independientemente de la procedencia y formato de éstas, haciendo así una Web Semántica. Uno de los mayores problemas que tiene la Web Semántica es la falta de contenidos semánticos, principalmente debido a la falta de métodos de anotación automáticos existentes. Una forma de resolver este problema se basa en esconder tras aplicaciones que la gente usa diariamente, como los juegos on-line, estos procesos de generación de metadatos semánticos. El objetivo de este proyecto es estudiar diferentes iniciativas que tratan de enmascarar la generación de metadatos semánticos a través de los juegos on-line y el desarrollo de un prototipo de casual game para anotar semánticamente recursos. Se trata de un juego sencillo de pregunta-respuesta, donde dos usuarios concurrentes contestan a preguntas preestablecidas y definidas dentro de una ontología de dominio, obteniendo puntos en aquellas preguntas donde hayan dado la misma respuesta.

Aplicació e-comerç desenvolupada en especificació J2EE. Tenda on-line de llibres BookSector.

Tenda on-line de llibres nous i de segona mà. Aplicació web distribuïda client-servidor, basada en l'especificació J2EE de java, i desenvolupada amb els frameworks Struts2, Hibernate i JSP per a la part visual. Desenvolupada i provada sobre un servidor d'aplicacions Apache Tomcat 7.0 i un SGBD MySQL Server 5.1. Aplicació que permet la gestió d'una tenda on-line per part dels propietaris del negoci, i per part dels clients que hi accedeixen i es registrin, efectuar comandes de llibres mitjançant un carretó de compra, o fer donacions de llibres usats per tal d'obtenir punts que llavors podran utilitzar per a comprar altres llibres de segona mà.

Botiga on-line 2.0 : ad. web i comerç electrònic en entorns de programari lliure

El present projecte tracta de la realització d'una botiga on­line amb característiques Web 2.0 utilitzant en tot moment solucions de programari lliure. La solució triada per a la implementació del nostre projecte descarta el desenvolupament total i complet del projecte, és a dir la realització d'una web programada totalment a mida, i passa per l'adaptació d'un CMS (programa per a l'administració i gestió dels continguts d'una web) als requisits de la nostra botiga.

Open to the users' needs : combining user-centered design, standards and open source software

This case study introduces our continuous work to enhance the virtual classroom in order to provide faculty and students with an environment open to their needs, compliant with learning standards and, therefore compatible with other e-learning environments, and based on open source software. The result is a modulable, sustainable and interoperable learning environment that can be adapted to different teaching and learning situations by incorporating the LMS integrated tools as well as wikis, blogs, forums and Moodle activities among others.
