Anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) magnetic sensors are often chosen as the magnetic transducer for magnetic field sensing in applications with low to moderate magnetic field resolution because of the relative low mass of the sensor and their ease of use. They measure magnetic fields in the order of the Earth magnetic field (with typical sensitivities of 1‰/G or 10−2‰/μT), have typical minimum detectable fields in order of nT and even 0.1 nT but they are seriously limited by the thermal drifts due to the variation of the resistivity with temperature (∼2.5‰/°C) and the variation of the magnetoresistive effect with temperature (which affects both the sensitivity of the sensors: ∼2.7‰/°C, and the offset: ±0.5‰/°C). Therefore, for lower magnetic fields, fluxgate vector sensors are generally preferred. In the present work these limitations of AMR sensors are outlined and studied. Three methods based on lock-in amplifiers are proposed as low noise techniques. Their performance has been simulated, experimentally tested and comparatively discussed. The developed model has been also used to derive a technique for temperature compensation of AMR response. The final goal to implement these techniques in a space qualified applied specific integrated circuit (ASIC) for Mars in situ exploration with compact miniaturized magnetometers.

We present our fast ionisation routine used to study transient softX-raylasers with ARWEN, a two-dimensional hydrodynamic code incorporating adaptative mesh refinement (AMR) and radiative transport. We compute global rates between ion stages assuming an effective temperature between singly-excited levels of each ion. A two-step method is used to obtain in a straightforward manner the variation of ion populations over long hydrodynamic time steps. We compare our model with existing theoretical results both stationary and transient, finding that the discrepancies are moderate except for large densities. We simulate an existing Molybdenum Ni-like transient softX-raylaser with ARWEN. Use of the fast ionisation routine leads to a larger increase in temperature and a larger gain zone than when LTE datatables are used.

This article examines, from the energy viewpoint, a new lightweight, slim, high energy efficient, light-transmitting envelope system, providing for seamless, free-form designs for use in architectural projects. The research was based on envelope components already existing on the market, especially components implemented with granular silica gel insulation, as this is the most effective translucent thermal insulation there is today. The tests run on these materials revealed that there is not one that has all the features required of the new envelope model, although some do have properties that could be exploited to generate this envelope, namely, the vacuum chamber of vacuum insulated panels (VIP), the monolithic aerogel used as insulation in some prototypes, reinforced polyester barriers. By combining these three design components — the high-performance thermal insulation of the vacuum chamber combined with monolithic silica gel insulation, the free-form design potential provided by materials like reinforced polyester and epoxy resins—, we have been able to define and test a new, variable geometry, energy-saving envelope system.

Let S be a set of n + m sites, of which n are red and have weight wR, and m are blue and weigh wB. The objective of this paper is to calculate the minimum value of wR such that the union of the red Voronoi cells in the weighted Voronoi diagram of S is a connected set. The problem is solved for the multiplicatively-weighted Voronoi diagram in O((n+m)^2 log(nm)) time and for the additively-weighted Voronoi diagram in O(nmlog(nm)) time.

In the present paper the influence of the reference system with regard to the characterization of the surface finishing is analyzed. The effect of the reference system’s choice on the most representative surface finishing parameters (e.g. roughness average Ra and root mean square values Rq) is studied. The study can also be applied to their equivalent parameters in waviness and primary profiles. Based on ISO and ASME standards, three different types of regression lines (center, mean and orthogonal) are theoretically and experimentally analyzed, identifying the validity and applicability fields of each one depending on profile’s geometry.

Related with the detection of weak magnetic fields, the anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) effect is widely utilized in sensor applications. Exchange coupling between an antiferromagnet (AF) and the ferromagnet (FM) has been known as a significant parameter in the field sensitivity of magnetoresistance because of pinning effects on magnetic domain in FM layer by the bias field in AF. In this work we have studied the thermal evolution of the magnetization reversal processes in nanocrystalline exchange biased Ni80Fe20/Ni-O bilayers with large training effects and we report the anisotropic magnetoresistance ratio arising from field orientation in the bilayer.

ABSTRACT We present a solver for the Euler equations for multimaterial flows in eulerian mesh. This solver has been coupled in the 2D AMR radiation transport code developed at Instituto de Fusión Nuclear (UPM) under the direction of professor Pedro Velarde, ARWEN. The main goals of this thesis are: Development and implementation of an 2D unsplit high-order Godunov method for multimaterial flows in eulerian mesh for cartesian and axialsimetry geometry. We present an extension of the work of Miller and Puckett (36) to an unsplit formulation. Also, we have paid special attention to the coupling with radiation transport and heat conduction. The method has been tested in a wide variety of problems. Application of the multimaterial solver to the study of real experiments: • Simulation of a proposal of a laboratory experiment aimed to reproducing the stripping stage of the interaction between the gas ejected during a supernova explosion and the secondary star in the Single Degenerate scenario. • Experiments of plasma jets in the laboratory obtained by the collission of two hot plasmas.

The paper provides a method applicable for the determination of flight loads for maneuvering aircraft, in which aerodynamic loads are calculated based on doublet lattice method, which contains three primary steps. Firstly, non-dimensional stability and control derivative coefficients are obtained through solving unsteady aerodynamics in subsonic flow based on a doublet lattice technical. These stability and control derivative coefficients are used in second step. Secondly, the simulation of aircraft dynamic maneuvers is completed utilizing fourth order Runge-Kutta method to solve motion equations in different maneuvers to gain response parameters of aircraft due to the motion of control surfaces. Finally, the response results calculated in the second step are introduced to the calculation of aerodynamic loads. Thus, total loads and loads distribution on different components of aircraft are obtained. According to the above method, abrupt pitching maneuvers, rolling maneuvers and yawing maneuvers are investigated respectively.
