Zaira de Bittencourt Martins: pioneira da psicanálise de crianças no Rio Grande do Sul

The objective of the present article is to introduce Zaira de Bittencourt Martins’s contributions to psychoanalysis in Rio Grande do Sul, identifying her as pioneer in child psychoanalysis in this State. Starting from a historic research based on interviews with psychoanalysts, bibliographical sources and contacts with relatives, the author composed a biographical outline of the psychoanalyst above mentioned. Zaira Martins, together with her husband, the psychiatrist and psychoanalyst Mario Martins, immigrated to Argentina in 1944, and in 1947 was recognized as an analyst by the Argentinian Psychoanalytic Association. On her return to Brazil she became the first non physician woman to make part of the Psychoanalytic Society of Porto Alegre, collaborating with her foundation, in 1963. She played the pioneer role as child psychoanalyst and contributed in the dissemination of Kleinian ideas in her State. She also contributed in the formation of young analysts who were beginners in the child analyst field, through courses and supervisions.

Book review: "Ideologies of Breast Cancer : Feminist Perspectives" Edited by Laura K. Potts. New York: St. Martin’s Press

Laura K. Potts’s edited collection of research on the meanings of breast cancer includes authors from the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada whose perspectives draw on literary criticism, sociology, psychology, and cultural studies among others. The research employs various methodological approaches—for example, media analysis (Saywell et al.), autobiographical narratives (Potts), and analysis of social activism (Fishman)—to elucidate the multiple dimensions and diversity of breast cancer experiences. The first of two parts, “Meanings of Breast Cancer,” presents the problematical relationship between biomedicine and women’s constructions of breast cancer knowledge, the sexualized and maternalized breast in the print media about breast cancer, environmental risks to women’s health in the Bay Area of San Francisco, and women’s narratives of breast cancer and situating the self. Para uma leitura não biográfica da obra de Mário de Sá Carneiro (e uma apreciação de o modernismo em Mário de Sá-Carneiro de Fernando Cabral Martins)

Este artigo pretende sublinhar a importância de entender a obra de Mário de Sá- Carneiro através de uma leitura atenta da sua produção literária que não procura provas da “veracidade” dessa leitura na biografia do poeta do Orpheu. Partindo de uma análise do trabalho crítico de Fernando Cabral Martins, levanta-se a problemática de deturpar uma análise de crítica literária com abordagens influenciadas por normas de história da literatura que inserem a obra no seu contexto histórico, o que tem sido o caso na recepção da obra de Sá-Carneiro, onde o mito do autor tende a ofuscar o seu legado literário. Assim, este artigo questiona se em O Modernismo em Mário de Sá-Carneiro, Fernando Cabral Martins consegue libertar a obra sá-carneiriana da sombra do poeta biográfico, e oferece uma avaliação panorâmica da tradição crítica dedicada ao autor, apontando para casos de interpretações que se prenderam com questões que ficam para fora do texto, como tem sido o caso com a natureza homossexual da obra e do homem.

Cost-to-serve customers’ optimization: Macro project Unilever – Jerónimo Martins

The objective of this work project is to analyse and discuss the importance of the “Cost to Serve” as a differentiation key factor, by accessing cost to serve customers of a Portuguese subsidiary of a multinational company, which is operating in the sector of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) – Unilever – Jerónimo Martins (UJM). I will also suggest and quantify key proposals to decrease costs and increase customers’ value. Hence, the scope of this work project is focused on logistics and distribution processes of the company supply chain.

Jeronimo Martins in 2030 succession and strategy planning

The case outlines the history of Jerónimo Martins and the Dos Santos family in the context of a dialogue between the pater familias Alexandre and his successor Pedro. The case idea analyses the problems associated with next generation entrance in the family business and the outcomes on the different stakeholders and environment, with a particular focus on the evolution of the relationship between family, family holding and the JM group. The case is designed to assess the sustainability of a traditional succession strategy in the context of the challenges of globalization and growth of the company and family, analysing the reciprocal influence in a long-term strategy.

Intraseasonal variation in immune defence, body mass and hematocrit in adult house martins Delichon urbica

The intensity of parasite infections often increases during the reproductive season of the host as a result of parasite reproduction, increased parasite transmission and increased host susceptibility. We report within-individual variation in immune parameters, hematocrit and body mass in adult house martins Delichon urbica rearing nestlings in nests experimentally infested with house martin bugs Oeciacus hirundinis and birds rearing nestlings in initially parasite-free nests. From first to second broods body mass and hematocrit of breeding adult house martins decreased. In contrast leucocytes and immunoglobulins became more abundant. When their nests were infested with ectoparasites adults lost more weight compared with birds raising nestlings in nests treated with pyrethrin, whereas the decrease in hematocrit was more pronounced during infection with blood parasites. Neither experimental infestation with house martin bugs nor blood parasites had a significant effect on the amount of immune defences.
