The generator differential protection is one of the most important electrical protections of synchronous generator stator windings. Its operation principle is based on the comparison of the input current and output current at each phase winding. Unwanted trip commands are usually caused by CT saturation, wrong CT selection, or the fact that they may come from different manufacturers. In generators grounded through high impedance, only phase-to-phase or three-phase faults can be detected by the differential protection. This kind of fault causes differential current to flow in, at least, two phases of the winding. Several cases of unwanted trip commands caused by the appearance of differential current in only one phase of the generator have been reported. In this paper multi-phase criterion is proposed for generator differential protection algorithm when applied to high impedance grounded generators.

Os sistemas elétricos de potência modernos apresentam inúmeros desafios em sua operação. Nos sistemas de distribuição de energia elétrica, devido à grande ramificação, presença de extensos ramais monofásicos, à dinâmica das cargas e demais particularidades inerentes, a localização de faltas representa um dos maiores desafios. Das barreiras encontradas, a influência da impedância de falta é uma das maiores, afetando significativamente a aplicação dos métodos tradicionais na localização, visto que a magnitude das correntes de falta é similar à da corrente de carga. Neste sentido, esta tese objetivou desenvolver um sistema inteligente para localização de faltas de alta impedância, o qual foi embasado na aplicação da técnica de decomposição por componentes ortogonais no pré-processamento das variáveis e inferência fuzzy para interpretar as não-linearidades do Sistemas de Distribuição com presença de Geração Distribuída. Os dados para treinamento do sistema inteligente foram obtidos a partir de simulações computacionais de um alimentador real, considerando uma modelagem não-linear da falta de alta impedância. O sistema fuzzy resultante foi capaz de estimar as distâncias de falta com um erro absoluto médio inferior a 500 m e um erro absoluto máximo da ordem de 1,5 km, em um alimentador com cerca de 18 km de extensão. Tais resultados equivalem a um grau de exatidão, para a maior parte das ocorrências, dentro do intervalo de ±10%.

This work describes the assessment of the acoustic properties of sputtered tantalum oxide films intended for use as high-impedance films of acoustic reflectors for solidly mounted resonators operating in the gigahertz frequency range. The films are grown by sputtering a metallic tantalum target under different oxygen and argon gas mixtures, total pressures, pulsed dc powers, and substrate biases. The structural properties of the films are assessed through infrared absorption spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction measurements. Their acoustic impedance is assessed by deriving the mass density from X-ray reflectometry measurements and the acoustic velocity from picosecond acoustic spectroscopy and the analysis of the frequency response of the test resonators.

Locating stator-winding ground faults accurately is a very difficult task. In this paper the grounding circuit measurements are evaluated in order to obtain information about the stator ground-fault location in synchronous generators. In power generators grounded through a high impedance, the relation between the neutral voltage and the phase voltage provide a first estimation of the fault location. The location error by using this ratio depends on the fault resistance and the value of the capacitance to ground of the stator winding. However, the error added by ignoring the value of the fault resistance is the most relevant term. This location estimation and the location error have been evaluated through the data of a real synchronous machine.

This study presents the first attempt to constrain the evolution of the North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ) by age dating and isotope tracing of clay minerals formed during near-surface faulting. Extensive illitic clay mineralisation occurred along the NAFZ related to hydrothermal alteration of the fault gouges and pseudotachylytes. Samples representing the pre-fault protoliths outside the fault zone do not contain authigenic illitic clay minerals indicating that hydrothermal processes were confined to the areas within the fault zone. K-Ar age data indicate that the hydrothermal system and the associated illite authigenesis initiated at similar to 57 Ma. This process is interpreted to reflect the onset of significant strike-slip or transtensional faulting immediately after the continental collision related to the closure of the Neotethys Ocean. Following the initiation of the fault movements in the latest Paleocene-Early Eocene, displacements along the NAFZ have continued, with probably intensified fault activities at similar to 26 Ma and later than similar to 8 Ma. Oxygen isotope compositions of the illitic clays from different locations along the NAFZ are similar, with narrow ranges in delta O-18 values indicating clay precipitation from fluids with similar oxygen isotope compositions and crystallisation temperatures. The delta O-18 and delta D values of the calculated fluid isotopic composition (delta O-18=5.9 parts per thousand to 11.2 parts per thousand, delta D=-59 parts per thousand to -73 parts per thousand) are consistent with metamorphic and magmatic origin of fluids mobilised during active tectonism. The interpretation of the fluid flow history of the NAFZ is in agreement with that reported previously for some well-known large-scale high-angle fault zones, which similarly developed along collisional-type orogenic belts and are commonly associated with significant mesothermal ore mineralisation. Ti-6Al-4V alloy has been widely used in restorative surgery due to its high corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. Nevertheless, some studies showed that V and Al release in the organism might induce cytotoxic effects and neurological disorders, which led to the development of V-free alloys and both V- and Al-free alloys containing Nb, Zr, Ta, or Mo. Among these alloys, Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloy is promising due to its better biomechanical compatibility than Ti-6Al-4V. In this work, the corrosion behavior of Ti, Ti-6Al-4V, and Ti-xNb-13Zr alloys (x=5, 13, and 20) was evaluated in Ringer`s solution (pH 7.5) at 37 degrees C through open-circuit potential measurements, potentiodynamic polarization, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Spontaneous passivity was observed for all materials in this medium. Low corrosion current densities (in the order of 10(-7) A/cm(2)) and high impedance values (in the order of 10(5) Omega cm(2) at low frequencies) indicated their high corrosion resistance. EIS results showed that the passivating films were constituted of an outer porous layer (very low resistance) and an inner compact layer (high resistance), the latter providing the corrosion resistance of the materials. There was evidence that the Ti-xNb-13Zr alloys were more corrosion resistant than both Ti and Ti-6Al-4V in Ringer`s solution.

This paper proposes a wireless EEG acquisition platform based on Open Multimedia Architecture Platform (OMAP) embedded system. A high-impedance active dry electrode was tested for improving the scalp- electrode interface. It was used the sigma-delta ADS1298 analog-to-digital converter, and developed a “kernelspace” character driver to manage the communications between the converter unit and the OMAP’s ARM core. The acquired EEG signal data is processed by a “userspace” application, which accesses the driver’s memory, saves the data to a SD-card and transmits them through a wireless TCP/IP-socket to a PC. The electrodes were tested through the alpha wave replacement phenomenon. The experimental results presented the expected alpha rhythm (8-13 Hz) reactiveness to the eyes opening task. The driver spends about 725 μs to acquire and store the data samples. The application takes about 244 μs to get the data from the driver and 1.4 ms to save it in the SD-card. A WiFi throughput of 12.8Mbps was measured which results in a transmission time of 5 ms for 512 kb of data. The embedded system consumes about 200 mAh when wireless off and 400 mAh when it is on. The system exhibits a reliable performance to record EEG signals and transmit them wirelessly. Besides the microcontroller-based architectures, the proposed platform demonstrates that powerful ARM processors running embedded operating systems can be programmed with real-time constrains at the kernel level in order to control hardware, while maintaining their parallel processing abilities in high level software applications.

En aquest projecte s'analitzen les limitacions de la implementació de ressonadors sèrie en derivació en tecnologia microstrip mitjançant un stub en derivació de salt d'impedància (SISS). L'esmentada estructura està composada per una línea d'alta impedància carregada amb una línea de baixa impedància acabada en circuit obert. El seu comportament en freqüència és equivalent al d'un ressonador sèrie en derivació sempre i quan les longituds de les seves línies siguin elèctricament petites. Sota aquestes condicions, bàsicament, la línia d'alta impedància sintetitza una inductància, mentre que la línia de baixa impedància una capacitat. La limitació en els valors mínim i màxim de la impedància característica que es poden implementar implica una limitació sobre la inductància i la capacitat que es poden sintetitzar mitjançant el SISS.

The metamorphism of the carbonate rocks of the SE Zanskar Tibetan zone has been studied by `'illite crystallinity'' and calcite-dolomite thermometry. The epizonal Zangla unit overlies the anchizonal Chumik unit. This discontinuous inverse zonation demonstrates a late to post-metamorphic thrust of the first unit over the second. The studied area underwent a complex tectonic history: - The tectonic units were stacked from the NE to the SW, generating recumbent folds, NE dipping thrusts and the regional metamorphism. The compressive movements were active under lower temperature conditions, resulting in late thrusts that disturbed the metamorphic zonation. The discontinuous inverse metamorphic zonation dates from this phase. - A NE vergent backfolding phase occurred at lower temperature conditions. It caused the uplift of more metamorphic levels. - A late extensional phase is revealed by the presence of NE dipping low angle normal faults, and a major high angle fault, the Sarchu fault. The low angle normal faults locally run along earlier thrusts (composite tectonic contacts). Their throw has been sufficient to reset a normal stratigraphic superposition (young layers overlying old ones), but insufficient to erase the inverse metamorphic relationship. However, the combined action of backfolding and normal faulting can locally lessen, or even cancel, the inverse metamorphic superposition. After deduction of the normal fault translation, the vertical component of the original thrust displacement through stratigraphy is 400 m, which is a value far too low to explain the temperature difference between the two units. The horizontal component of displacement is therefore far more important than the vertical one. The regional distribution of metamorphism within the Zangla unit points out to an anchizonal front and an epizonal inner part. This fact is in agreement with nappe tectonics.

Sähkömarkkinalakimuutokset ovat ohjanneet useita verkkoyhtiötä muuttamaan investoin-tistrategioitaan. Kiristyneet toimitusvarmuusvaatimukset edellyttävät useilta verkkoyh-tiöiltä aiempaa suurempaa panostusta jakeluverkon kehittämiseksi. Toimitusvarmuusvaa-timusten täyttäminen edellyttää myös merkittäviä muutoksia verkkoyhtiöiden käyttämiin verkostotekniikoihin. Suurhäiriöille alttiita ilmajohtoja muutetaan verkkoyhtiöissä totuttua nopeammalla aikataululla maakaapeleiksi tiukentuneiden toimitusvarmuusvaatimusten täyttämiseksi. PKS Sähkönsiirto Oy:n 20 kV sähköverkko on ollut suurimmalta osalta avojohtoverkkoa jossa toimitusvarmuus ei ole nykyisellään muuttuneen sähkömarkkinalain asettamalla ta-solla. Tämä on johtanut verkostostrategian luomiseen, jossa yhtenä toimena toimitusvar-muuden lisäämiseksi vaaditulle tasolle on avojohtolinjojen korvaaminen maakaapeleilla. Maakaapelointien nopea rakennusaikataulu tuo monia haasteita verkkoyhtiöille. Maakaa-pelointien korkea maasulkuvirran ja loistehon tuotto verrattuna avojohtoverkkoon tulee huomioida yhtiössä verkkoa rakennettaessa. Tässä diplomityössä selvitetään PKS Sähkönsiirto Oy:n verkostostrategian mukaisten maakaapelointien vaikutuksia sähköverkolle. Työssä on arvioitu tavoiteverkon mukaisten maakaapeleiden aiheuttamaa maasulkuvirran ja loistehon tuoton tasoa. Tulosten perusteel-la on tehty johtopäätökset mihin verkkoyhtiön on kiinnitettävä huomioita kaapelointeja suunnitellessa ja toteuttaessa.

Due to the high-impedance property of the metamalerials. the thickness of the RAM is about several tenths of the center wavelength of the absorption band, which is considerably thinner than conventional absorbers.
