Nonuniqueness in vector-valued calculus of variations in l-infinity and some linear elliptic systems

We study an elliptic system of the form Lu = vertical bar v vertical bar(p-1) v and Lv = vertical bar u vertical bar(q-1) u in Omega with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition, where Lu := -Delta u in the case of a bounded domain and Lu := -Delta u + u in the cases of an exterior domain or the whole space R-N. We analyze the existence, uniqueness, sign and radial symmetry of ground state solutions and also look for sign changing solutions of the system. More general non-linearities are also considered.

We study the existence of solutions of quasilinear elliptic systems involving $N$ equations and a measure on the right hand side, with the form $$\left\{\begin{array}{ll} -\sum_{i=1}^n \frac{\partial}{\partial x_i}\left(\sum\limits_{\beta=1}^{N}\sum\limits_{j=1}^{n}% a_{i,j}^{\alpha,\beta}\left( x,u\right)\frac{\partial}{\partial x_j}u^\beta\right)=\mu^\alpha& \mbox{ in }\Omega ,\\ u=0 & \mbox{ on }\partial\Omega, \end{array}\right.$$ where $\alpha\in\{1,\dots,N\}$ is the equation index, $\Omega$ is an open bounded subset of $\mathbb{R}^{n}$, $u:\Omega\rightarrow\mathbb{R}^{N}$ and $\mu$ is a finite Randon measure on $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ with values into $\mathbb{R}^{N}$. Existence of a solution is proved for two different sets of assumptions on $A$. Examples are provided that satisfy our conditions, but do not satisfy conditions required on previous works on this matter.

We study the existence of positive solutions of Hamiltonian-type systems of second-order elliptic PDE in the whole space. The systems depend on a small parameter and involve a potential having a global well structure. We use dual variational methods, a mountain-pass type approach and Fourier analysis to prove positive solutions exist for sufficiently small values of the parameter.

This paper proves the existence of nontrivial solution for a class of quasilinear systems oil bounded domains in R(N), N >= 2, whose nonlinearity has a double criticality. The proof is based oil a linking theorem without the Palais-Smale condition.

We discuss the partial regularity of minimizers of energy functionals such as (1)/(p)integral(Omega)[sigma(u)dA(p) + (1)/(2)delu(2p)]dx, where u is a map from a domain Omega is an element of R-n into the m-dimensional unit sphere of Rm+1 and A is a differential one-form in Omega.

For the last decade, elliptic curve cryptography has gained increasing interest in industry and in the academic community. This is especially due to the high level of security it provides with relatively small keys and to its ability to create very efficient and multifunctional cryptographic schemes by means of bilinear pairings. Pairings require pairing-friendly elliptic curves and among the possible choices, Barreto-Naehrig (BN) curves arguably constitute one of the most versatile families. In this paper, we further expand the potential of the BN curve family. We describe BN curves that are not only computationally very simple to generate, but also specially suitable for efficient implementation on a very broad range of scenarios. We also present implementation results of the optimal ate pairing using such a curve defined over a 254-bit prime field. (C) 2001 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

In this article, we consider solutions starting close to some linearly stable invariant tori in an analytic Hamiltonian system and we prove results of stability for a super-exponentially long interval of time, under generic conditions. The proof combines classical Birkhoff normal forms and a new method to obtain generic Nekhoroshev estimates developed by the author and L. Niederman in another paper. We will mainly focus on the neighbourhood of elliptic fixed points, the other cases being completely similar.
