Extracting and aggregating the relevant event records relating to an identified security incident from the multitude of heterogeneous logs in an enterprise network is a difficult challenge. Presenting the information in a meaningful way is an additional challenge. This paper looks at solutions to this problem by first identifying three main transforms; log collection, correlation, and visual transformation. Having identified that the CEE project will address the first transform, this paper focuses on the second, while the third is left for future work. To aggregate by correlating event records we demonstrate the use of two correlation methods, simple and composite. These make use of a defined mapping schema and confidence values to dynamically query the normalised dataset and to constrain result events to within a time window. Doing so improves the quality of results, required for the iterative re-querying process being undertaken. Final results of the process are output as nodes and edges suitable for presentation as a network graph.

Arid systems are markedly different from non-arid systems. This distinctiveness extends to arid-social networks, by which we mean social networks which are influenced by the suite of factors driving arid and semi-arid regions. Neither the process of how aridity interacts with social structure, nor what happens as a result of this interaction, is adequately understood. This paper postulates three relative characteristics which make arid-social networks distinct: that they are tightly bound, are hierarchical in structure and, hence, prone to power abuses, and contain a relatively higher proportion of weak links, making them reactive to crisis. These ideas were modified from workshop discussions during 2006. Although they are neither tested nor presented as strong beliefs, they are based on the anecdotal observations of arid-system scientists with many years of experience. This paper does not test the ideas, but rather examines them in the context of five arid-social network case studies with the aim of hypotheses building. Our cases are networks related to pastoralism, Aboriginal outstations, the ‘Far West Coast Aboriginal Enterprise Network’ and natural resources in both the Lake-Eyre basin and the Murray–Darling catchment. Our cases highlight that (1) social networks do not have clear boundaries, and that how participants perceive their network boundaries may differ from what network data imply, (2) although network structures are important determinants of system behaviour, the role of participants as individuals is still pivotal, (3) and while in certain arid cases weak links are engaged in crisis, the exact structure of all weak links in terms of how they place participants in relation to other communities is what matters.

This chapter looks into the importance of having a clear identity of a boundary spanner in determining the role of the partners in a university-industry knowledge transfer programme. It highlights issues around the relationship between the business and the graduate as the boundary spanner, where the university's level of control differs between two programmes: Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) and Knowledge Exchange and Enterprise Network (KEEN) programme. The four case studies illustrate interesting points since the university is the employer for the KTPs associate and the business is the employer for the KEEN associate, whilst successful KTP and KEEN projects rely on a full understanding of the role of the graduate within the business.

El presente trabajo busca establecer y cuantificar el impacto del proceso de asociatividad en la red empresarial CBGROUP, perteneciente al sector de cosméticos. Las actividades de asociatividad buscan beneficios para las empresas que de otra manera seria muy difícil lograrlo, por lo que la mayoría de los beneficios se traducen en mejoras en la competitividad de las empresas obteniendo como resultado procesos innovadores. Para lo cual se realizo un trabajo de campo que permitió la obtención de datos para su posterior análisis, trabajo que consistió en la realización de cuestionarios y entrevistas a las empresas pertenecientes a la red, por lo que se comienza con un revisión teórica de los conceptos, para seguir con el caso de estudio, Resultados y análisis.

El concepto de coopetencia surgen los planteamientos relacionados con los clústers y las redes empresariales, en donde empresas con características similares fortalecen sus relaciones para desarrollar mayores niveles de eficiencia o alcanzar objetivos que individualmente serian difíciles de lograr, especialmente en el caso de las pymes. Es fundamental que el estado desarrolle las relaciones y la conformación de iniciativas de asociatividad que permitan que la fluidez y los vínculos entre empresas, instituciones gubernamentales, financieras, universidades, centros de investigación, entre otros; para promover la integración de esfuerzos, la fluidez de información y el acceso a tecnologías, mejores posiciones competitivas. En Colombia desde hace aproximadamente 20 años, dentro de la política de competitividad del gobierno nacional (a partir del informe monitor), se ha identificado la importancia de las relaciones entre empresas e instituciones conexas para mejorar los estándares y la eficiencia que se pueda lograr para mantener una posición competitiva en los mercados internacionales.

El entorno empresarial actual ha llevado a las empresas a adoptar nuevas estrategias para ingresar a nuevos mercados, logrando ser competitivos y productivos. Una de esas estrategias es la creación de las redes empresariales, que permite a las empresas apoyarse en otras con las que tienen un objetivo común. La asociatividad se ha consolidado como la forma más sencilla y practica de alcanzar mercados nuevos sin incurrir en muchos gastos o riesgos, sin que ello implique que los riesgos o gastos desaparezcan, si disminuyen de forma significativa. Por otro lado, las empresas también buscan ser saludables, esto a través de la implementación de programas y la adopción de nuevos criterios que les permita ser más competitivas y la vez poder aportar a sus empleados, sus proveedores y la comunidad. Buscan ser organizaciones que destaquen los aspectos positivos en sus organizaciones y mejorar las relaciones en todos los niveles.

El desarrollo de la presente investigación, centra su atención en las capacidades dinámicas que influyen en la operación de la Red de Turismo de La Candelaria de Bogotá. Para este fin, se realizó una encuesta a 100 directivos o dueños de las empresas que conforman dicha red, y que es una muestra significativa para los propósitos de la investigación, puesto que permite describir a nivel de la empresa y a nivel de la red, la influencia de las capacidades dinámicas de absorción, adaptación e innovación. Como resultados, se obtuvieron que al nivel de empresas las tres capacidades dinámicas influyen en la operación de la misma, encontrándose una mayor relación entre las capacidades de “Innovación – Adaptación"; a nivel de red empresarial ocurre lo contrario, puesto que la relación de las capacidades dinámicas de “Innovación – Adaptación” es nula, mientras que las relaciones entre “Absorción – Innovación” y “Absorción – Adaptación” poseen una alta relación para la operación de la red. Lo anterior, se deriva del análisis realizado de los datos tabulados de la encuesta aplicada a las empresas de la red de turismo, con los estudios empíricos hallados que proponen escalas de medición para las capacidades dinámicas de absorción, adaptación e innovación, y el marco teórico elaborado como soporte para la presente investigación.

A pressão por inovação em empresas de base tecnológica, em ciclos cada vez mais curtos e demandando competências complexas, tem levado as empresas à busca de uma estruturação sob a forma de redes de cooperação empresarial, a fim de mitigar riscos e reduzir custos enquanto acelera o time to market. Entretanto, apesar de todas as vantagens e oportunidades reais, há grandes barreiras a serem transpostas. O objetivo dessa pesquisa é compreender o processo de estruturação de uma rede de cooperação no contexto de empresas de base tecnológica. A abordagem metodológica utilizada foi a pesquisa-ação desenvolvida em 30 empresas do setor eletroeletrônico. Os resultados apontam o temor ao comportamento oportunista como o item mais crítico à formação da rede de cooperação empresarial.

A key problem with IEEE 802.11 technology is adaptation of the transmission rates to the changing channel conditions, which is more challenging in vehicular networks. Although rate adaptation problem has been extensively studied for static residential and enterprise network scenarios, there is little work dedicated to the IEEE 802.11 rate adaptation in vehicular networks. Here, the authors are motivated to study the IEEE 802.11 rate adaptation problem in infrastructure-based vehicular networks. First of all, the performances of several existing rate adaptation algorithms under vehicle network scenarios, which have been widely used for static network scenarios, are evaluated. Then, a new rate adaptation algorithm is proposed to improve the network performance. In the new rate adaptation algorithm, the technique of sampling candidate transmission modes is used, and the effective throughput associated with a transmission mode is the metric used to choose among the possible transmission modes. The proposed algorithm is compared to several existing rate adaptation algorithms by simulations, which shows significant performance improvement under various system and channel configurations. An ideal signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)-based rate adaptation algorithm in which accurate channel SNR is assumed to be always available is also implemented for benchmark performance comparison.

Enterprise social networks are organizationally bounded online platforms for users to interact with another and maintain interpersonal relationships. The allure of these technologies is often seen in intra-organizational communication, collaboration and innovation. How these technologies actually support organizational innovation efforts remains unclear. A specific challenge is whether digital content on these platforms converts to actual innovation development efforts. In this study we set out to examine innovation-centric content flows on enterprise social networking platforms, and advance a conceptual model that seeks to explain which innovation conveyed in the digital content will traverse from the digital platform into regular processes. We describe important constructs of our model and offer strategies for the operationalization of the constructs. We conclude with an outlook to our ongoing empirical study that will explore and validate the key propositions of our model, and we sketch some potential implications for industry and academia.
