The entropy conjecture for partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with 1-D center

We prove that if f is a partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism on the compact manifold M with one dimensional center bundle, then the logarithm of the spectral radius of the map induced by f on the real homology groups of M is smaller or equal to the topological entropy of f. This is a particular case of the Shub's entropy conjecture, which claims that the same conclusion should be true for any C1 map on any compact manifold.

Mixing invariants of hyperbolic 3-manifolds

Let M be a compact hyperbolic 3-manifold with incompressible boundary. Consider a complete hyperbolic metric on int(M). To each geometrically finite end of int(M) are traditionnaly associated 3 different invariants : the hyperbolic metric associated to the conformal structure at infinity, the hyperbolic metric on the boundary of the convex core and the bending measured lamination of the convex core. In this note we show how invariants of different types can be realised in the different ends.

On the asymptotic expansion of the colored Jones polynomial for torus knots

In the asymptotic expansion of the hyperbolic specification of the colored Jones polynomial of torus knots, we identify different geometric contributions, in particular Chern-Simons invariant and Reidemeister torsion.

Epireflections and supercompact cardinals

We prove that, under suitable assumptions on a category C, the existence of supercompact cardinals implies that every absolute epireflective class of objects of C is a small-orthogonality class. More precisely, if L is a localization functor on an accessible category C such that the unit morphism X→LX is an extremal epimorphism for all X, and the class of L-local objects is defined by an absolute formula with parameters, then the existence of a supercompact cardinal above the cardinalities of the parameters implies that L is a localization with respect to some set of morphisms.

Semipurity of tempered Deligne cohomology

In this paper we define the formal and tempered Deligne cohomology groups, that are obtained by applying the Deligne complex functor to the complexes of formal differential forms and tempered currents respectively. We then prove the existence of a duality between them, a vanishing theorem for the former and a semipurity property for the latter. The motivation of this results comes from the study of covariant arithmetic Chow groups. The semi-purity property of tempered Deligne cohomology implies, in particular, that several definitions of covariant arithmetic Chow groups agree for projective arithmetic varieties.

Twisted Reidemeister torsion for twist knots

The aim of this paper is to give an explicit formula for the SL2(C)-twisted Reidemeister torsion as defined in [6] in the case of twist knots. For hyperbolic twist knots, we also prove that the twisted Reidemeister torsion at the holonomy representation can be expressed as a rational function evaluated at the cusp shape of the knot. Tables given approximations of the twisted Reidemeister torsion for twist knots on some concrete examples are also enclosed.

Pure motives, mixed motives and extensions of motives associated to singular surfaces

We first recall the construction of the Chow motive modelling intersection cohomology of a proper surface X and study its fundamental properties. Using Voevodsky's category of effective geometrical motives, we then study the motive of the exceptional divisor D in a non-singular blow-up of X. If all geometric irreducible components of D are of genus zero, then Voevodsky's formalism allows us to construct certain one-extensions of Chow motives, as canonical subquotients of the motive with compact support of the smooth part of X. Specializing to Hilbert-Blumenthal surfaces, we recover a motivic interpretation of a recent construction of A. Caspar.

Euclidean geometric invariant of framed knots in manifolds

We present an invariant of a three dimensional manifold with a framed knot in it based on the Reidemeister torsion of an acyclic complex of Euclidean geometric origin. To show its nontriviality, we calculate the invariant for some framed (un)knots in lens spaces. An important feature of our work is that we are not using any nontrivial representation of the manifold fundamental group or knot group.

Note on homology of expanding foliations

This note contains some remarks about the homologies that can be associated to a foliation which is invariant and uniformly expanded by a diffeomorphism. We construct a family of 'dynamical' closed currents supported on the foliation which help us relate the geometric volume growth of the leaves under the diffeomorphism with the map induced on homology in the case when these currents have nonzero homology.

Homotopy exponents for large H-Spaces

We show that H-spaces with finitely generated cohomology, as an algebra or as an algebra over the Steenrod algebra, have homotopy exponents at all primes. This provides a positive answer to a question of Stanley.

Localization of algebras over coloured operads

We give sufficient conditions for homotopical localization functors to preserve algebras over coloured operads in monoidal model categories. Our approach encompasses a number of previous results about preservation of structures under localizations, such as loop spaces or infinite loop spaces, and provides new results of the same kind. For instance, under suitable assumptions, homotopical localizations preserve ring spectra (in the strict sense, not only up to homotopy), modules over ring spectra, and algebras over commutative ring spectra, as well as ring maps, module maps, and algebra maps. It is principally the treatment of module spectra and their maps that led us to the use of coloured operads (also called enriched multicategories) in this context.
