This study describes the professional experience of military police officers from the Portuguese Republican National Guard (N = 95). We focused on the main sources and consequences of stress and the coping strategies used to deal with stress. The evaluation protocol included one closed-ended question and four open-ended questions. Data analysis of meaningful text segments was conceptually based and data categorization followed deductive content analysis. Results allowed the identification of 483 meaning units. Factors intrinsic to the job and the relationships at work were the main stressors referred by participants. The consequences of stressors were evident at an individual level, affecting family, psychological, and physical/health domains. The coping strategies used to deal with the main source of stress in the professional career were focused on problem solving (e.g., active confrontation) and emotional regulation (e.g., situation acceptance). Practical implications and future avenues of research with these professionals are discussed.

Dinoflagellates of the genus Ceratium are chiefly marine but there are rare occurrences in freshwater. In this study we analyze the invasion and progressive establishment of Ceratium furcoides, an exotic species, in the Furnas Reservoir. Samples were taken at 36 points in the reservoir, during the months of March, June, September and December, 2007. Measurements of some physical and chemical variables were simultaneously performed at each site. The occurrence of C. furcoides was registered at 20 sites, with densities varying between 0.57 and 28,564,913.0 ind.m-3. Blooms of this species were recorded in points which were classified as mesotrophic, coinciding with the places receiving high amounts of untreated domestic sewage. C. furcoides density was correlated with temperature, nutrients (nitrate and nitrite) and water electric conductivity. The highest density was recorded in June when temperature was low. The presence of Ceratium furcoides in the reservoir apparently has not yet affected the reservoir water quality or other plankton communities. However, if it becomes fully established it could perhaps become a problem in the reservoir or even to spread out to other reservoirs in Rio Grande basin.

ABSTRACT. This project concerns the design and analysis, with its different stages, of various configurations of LED luminaries prototypes focused on domestic and industrial environments. Mounts on different materials will be made to evaluate the results and decide which material is most appropriate for each circumstance. Initially we will expose the current state of this technology and characterize, in a preliminary way, the devices that we will use to produce the prototypes which subsequently will analyze. Later we detail the process of construction of each prototype, especially indicating the differences and similarities between them. In the following sections, we will analyze these characteristics. We will work with two power ranges for luminaries. The first one focuses on maximum light output, with values between 40W and 50W, thinking about industrial use, street lighting, etc. The second power range will focus on the domestic environment, adjusting the color temperature in this environment to combine power, between 9W and 12W, with warm lighting. Finally the prototypes will submit a series of analyzes and, with the results obtained, we conclude if will be suitable for the intended use and those that should be modified. In laboratory environment, where thermal, electrical and lighting analyzes were carried out, we will use specialized instruments for each type of analysis as well as the corresponding software. Except for measurements related to the spectrum of light radiation, the rest of information will be obtained by LabVIEW®, complete graphical development software for virtual instrumentation. As a final section, we will present an evaluation of compliance with the project objectives, possible future work, or improvements, and conclusions.

Enrique García Álvarez (Madrid, 1883-1931) belonged to the group of writers who stood out in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth in what was known as “género chico”, label used to oppose this kind of theater to the dramaturgy considered serious. It was composed of brief and comic works whose intention was to generate a fun time for the spectators. Our author was one of the leading representatives and his numerous creations appeared profusely in the posters of the theaters per hour. In the twentieth century, he adapted to the new forms imposed on the scene. Despite his enormous fame at the time, nowadays Enrique García Álvarez remains completely unknown, not only in the eyes of the general public but also to the more knowledgeable circles of our literature. Studies of his dramatic work are almost nonexistent and basically limited to their collaborations with other authors who had more luck as Arniches or Muñoz Seca. The purpose of this thesis is, therefore, to complete a thorough study of the figure and production of Enrique García Álvarez, as well as its impact on the literature. The opening chapter is a reconstruction of the life and work of the author. In the following chapters, we proceeded to the analysis of structural features such as theme, time, space, and characters of his dramatic world. At the end of these pages, we have included a photographic appendix that illustrates some moments of his personal and professional career. We have also developed appendices to classify his librettos chronologically, by collaborator and by genre...
