Työssä kehitettiin kohtuuhintainen ja suorituskyvyltään riittävä autosimulaattoripelikäyttöön soveltuva liikealusta. Työssä tutustuttiin aluksi markkinoilla oleviin liikealustaratkaisuihin. Työssä selvitettiin myös liikealustaa koskevia turvallisuusmääräyksiä. Kehittäminen alkoi liikealustan vaatimusten määrittelyllä ja kuormituksien simuloinnilla. Runkorakenteet mitoitettiin kestämään simuloituja rasituksia. Liikealustan toimilaitteet valittiin simulointitulosten perusteella. Työssä suunniteltiin myös liikealustan ohjausjärjestelmä. Mekaanisien osien ja voimansiirron mitoittamisen jälkeen suoritettiin osien yksityiskohtainen suunnittelu. Alihankkijat valmistivat osat ja ne koottiin Älykkäiden koneiden laboratoriossa. Järjestelmän kokoamisen jälkeen viritettiin säätäjät ja testattiin liikealustan toimivuutta. Kehitettyä liikealustaa on käytetty muutamissa tapahtumissa. Asetetut tavoitteet saavutettiin ja liikealusta soveltuu kokemuksien perusteella hyvin rata-autosimulaattoripelien kanssa käytettäväksi.

In this thesis an electric propulsion system is designed on a device level using Cadence ORCAD. The vehicle belongs to the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sci-ences and it is to compete in the Automotive X-Prize competition held in the USA. In this thesis the electric propulsion system and related electric safety measures are designed. Also electro-magnetic compatibility and interferences present in the system are examined by examining the birth mechanisms and transmission paths of interference. Per device effects of interference and solutions to minimize them were examined and proposed. Suitability of permanent magnet synchronous machines for passenger vehicle use was examined by examining the torque production capability of the motor and the torque requirements of the vehicle. Also a short overview of history of electric vehicles is given.

The amount of installed wind power has been growing exponentially during the past ten years. As wind turbines have become a significant source of electrical energy, the interactions between the turbines and the electric power network need to be studied more thoroughly than before. Especially, the behavior of the turbines in fault situations is of prime importance; simply disconnecting all wind turbines from the network during a voltage drop is no longer acceptable, since this would contribute to a total network collapse. These requirements have been a contributor to the increased role of simulations in the study and design of the electric drive train of a wind turbine. When planning a wind power investment, the selection of the site and the turbine are crucial for the economic feasibility of the installation. Economic feasibility, on the other hand, is the factor that determines whether or not investment in wind power will continue, contributing to green electricity production and reduction of emissions. In the selection of the installation site and the turbine (siting and site matching), the properties of the electric drive train of the planned turbine have so far been generally not been taken into account. Additionally, although the loss minimization of some of the individual components of the drive train has been studied, the drive train as a whole has received less attention. Furthermore, as a wind turbine will typically operate at a power level lower than the nominal most of the time, efficiency analysis in the nominal operating point is not sufficient. This doctoral dissertation attempts to combine the two aforementioned areas of interest by studying the applicability of time domain simulations in the analysis of the economicfeasibility of a wind turbine. The utilization of a general-purpose time domain simulator, otherwise applied to the study of network interactions and control systems, in the economic analysis of the wind energy conversion system is studied. The main benefits of the simulation-based method over traditional methods based on analytic calculation of losses include the ability to reuse and recombine existing models, the ability to analyze interactions between the components and subsystems in the electric drive train (something which is impossible when considering different subsystems as independent blocks, as is commonly done in theanalytical calculation of efficiencies), the ability to analyze in a rather straightforward manner the effect of selections other than physical components, for example control algorithms, and the ability to verify assumptions of the effects of a particular design change on the efficiency of the whole system. Based on the work, it can be concluded that differences between two configurations can be seen in the economic performance with only minor modifications to the simulation models used in the network interaction and control method study. This eliminates the need ofdeveloping analytic expressions for losses and enables the study of the system as a whole instead of modeling it as series connection of independent blocks with no lossinterdependencies. Three example cases (site matching, component selection, control principle selection) are provided to illustrate the usage of the approach and analyze its performance.

O objetivo desta pesquisa foi identificar o efeito de diferentes níveis de estresse hídrico no crescimento das cultivares RB92579, RB855453, RB867515 e RB928064, utilizando um sistema automático de controle dos eventos de fertirrigação, durante o período de formação da cana-de- -açúcar. No período experimental, as plantas foram submetidas a períodos alternados de estresse e de reposição hídrica, por meio de fertirrigações periódicas, cujos limites do potencial matricial de água (Y) foram aqui denominados, para propósitos comparativos, como ausência de estresse, estresse leve, moderado e severo, respectivamente, para os valores críticos de Y de −10, −60, −90 e −120 kPa. Para avaliação do efeito do estresse hídrico no crescimento da cana-de-açúcar, foi utilizado o modelo sigmoidal com três parâmetros, tendo graus-dia acumulados como variável independente, o qual demonstrou excelente ajuste aos dados de estatura dos colmos (R2aj > 0,95). Na ausência de estresse hídrico, os valores máximos da taxa de elongação dos colmos (TEC) estiveram compreendidos entre 0,23 e 0,26 cm°Cd-1, independentemente da cultivar. Por outro lado, sob estresse severo, os valores máximos da TEC estiveram entre 0,07 e 0,09 cm°Cd-1, também independentemente da cultivar avaliada.

Kandidaatintyössä käsitellään ajoneuvosimulaattoreita pelien ja tuotekehityksen maailmasta. Tarkoituksena on selvittää lähinnä kirjallisuuskatsauksena, minkälaisia fysiikkamalleja simulaatiopeleissä käytetään ja miten ne eroavat tuotekehityksessä käytettävistä ajoneuvosimulaatiomalleista. Pelisimulaattorin tärkein tavoite on realistinen tuntuma. Lisäksi etuja ovat pelaajaa koukuttava haaste ja viihde. Tuotekehityssimulaattorissa tärkein tavoite taas on hyödyntämiskelpoinen tulos. Näkyvin ero on visualisoinnissa, mutta mallinnettavat ilmiöt sekä tapa mallintaa niitä eroavat myös monilta osin.

The design process of direct-driven permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) for a full electric 4 ´ 4 sports car is presented. The rotor structure of the machine consists of two permanent magnet layers embedded inside the rotor laminations thus resulting in some inverse saliency, where the q-axis inductance is larger than the d-axis one. An integer slot stator winding was selected to fully take advantage of the additional reluctance torque. The performance characteristics of the designed PMSMs were calculated by applying a twodimensional finite element method. Cross-saturation between the d- and q-axes was taken into account in the calculation of the synchronous inductances. The calculation results are validated by measurements.

SStrong evidence suggests that the climate is changing and that these changes are largely caused by human activities. A consensus exists among researchers that human activity is causing global warming and that actions to mitigate global warming need to be taken swiftly. The transportation sector, which relies heavily on fossil fuel burning and primarily oil, is one of the big contributors to air pollution problems at local, regional and global levels. It is the fastest growing source of greenhouse gas emissions and is estimated to be responsible for nearly a quarter of global energyrelated carbon dioxide emissions. Car sharing is a mobility solution encouraging its users to decrease private car usage in favour of communal transit and environmental goals. The idea of car sharing originates from the aspiration to decrease personal car ownership and to reduce vehicle distance travelled. This thesis seeks to complement the understanding of Finnish car sharing users and their usage through better categorization. Through better categorization and segmentation of Finnish car sharing users the thesis seeks to provide information for improved marketing insight. Research is done on the demographic and behavioural characteristics of Finnish car sharing users and they are compared with international findings about the characteristics of International car sharing users. The main research problem is Are Finnish car sharing users similar to international ones? A theoretical research framework on the determinants of individual car sharing usage is built based on international research about demographic and behaviouristic characteristics. After this a quantitative survey is performed to the customers of a Finnish car sharing organization. The data analysed in the thesis consist out of 532 answers received from the car sharing organizations customers. The data is analysed with descriptive and other exploratory methods, which create an understanding of Finnish car sharing users. At the end of the analysis the demographic and behavioural characteristics of Finnish car sharing users are compared with international ones. The research findings of the thesis indicate that the demographic and behavioural characteristics of Finnish car sharing usage largely follow those of their international counterparts. Thanks to the thesis results the car sharing organization is able to better target their customers through improved marketing insight.

Farinha de cará (Dioscorea alata) foi processada em extrusor mono-rosca, para a manufatura de "snacks". Foi empregada a Metodologia de Superfície de Resposta para avaliar os efeitos da umidade (16, 20 e 24%), temperatura (120, 150 e 180ºC) e diâmetro da matriz (3, 4 e 5mm) nas características dos extrusados. A temperatura foi a variável mais importante, influenciando todas as propriedades estudadas. O volume específico e o comprimento específico aumentaram quando a temperatura aumentou e a umidade e o diâmetro da matriz diminuíram, enquanto, ao mesmo tempo, fraturabilidade e dureza diminuíram. A expansão diminuiu, quando a temperatura aumentou de 120 para 180ºC. Foram selecionadas duas condições experimentais que possibilitavam obter "snacks" com propriedades desejáveis (alto volume específico e baixa dureza e fraturabilidade) e os produtos foram avaliados por equipes sensoriais não treinadas. Estas apontaram que o melhor produto foi aquele extrusado com um teor de umidade de 17%, a 170ºC, com uma matriz de 4mm de abertura. Este produto obteve um índice de aceitabilidade de 80%, quando avaliado por 140 consumidores.
