This study aime to estimate the properties of the Escala de percepção de professores dos comportamentos agressivos de crianças na escola. The research was conducted in a socio-educational institution in two phases. In the first one different educators completed the scale concerning the children and teenagers who attended the institution (N = 100). In the second, the children and teenagers with the highest or the lowest scores on the scale above (n = 60) responded to the Children’s Action Tendency Scale, which investigates strategies of conflict resolution. The results demonstrated adequate reliability of the scale of perception. However, they indicated that the educators’ evaluation did not correspond to how children and teenagers judged the hypothetical conflicts since the boys were rated as more aggressive than girls on the perception scale.

Regardless of their age, hospitalized children suffer from being separated from their mothers or their attachment figures. Hospitalization is a process that is difficult for children to cope with due to their separation from families, everyday environments and embedded disease scenarios. Most of the interviewed children did not like the hospital environment and reported to miss their homes. From their statements, they showed their dissatisfaction in relation to pain and their submission to invasive procedures, which were the main complaints during the interviews. Our results agree with those found in the literature in relation to the hospital environment when the children reported the fact that they missed their homes as a difficulty to adapt. The analysis of results in this study and in previous ones led to the reflection on the importance of the presence of a relative during children’s hospitalization and the adaptation process. Despite their dissatisfaction in relation to invasive procedures, none of the children tried to stop the performance of tests and understood their importance. This is a characteristic of the operational phase, which comprises the development of perception of a whole situation and is when... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

The use of computers in childhood education makes it possible for them to acquire knowledge in a fun way through games. This paper describes the experience of implementing the course “Computers for Children”, which is part of a University Extension Program at the School of Dentistry at UNESP - Araraquara. This course is offered to children aged 5-7 years old and it aims, not only, to offer children, via computer, a direct contact with new teaching technologies, but also, to help them develop both their motor and logical thinking abilities through educational games. The children that participated in this course are from the Children’s Center “Casinha de Abelha” at the UNESP -Araraquara and also from the Municipal Recreation and Educational Centers also in Araraquara, SP, Brazil. The software resources used in this course to teach computer skills are the educational games “Coelho Sabido Maternal”, “A Estrela Cintilante” and “Festa dos Dentinhos”. The children’s learning and the level of difficulty in using the computer as a tool were evaluated. It was possible to conclude that the course has been contributing to the digital inclusion of children aged 5-7 years old, in addition to training their visual and audio perception, their motor coordination and memorization, hence developing skills that are essential to the children’s literacy process.

The lead contamination in children has been the subject of research in the field of public health. This study evaluated the academic performance of 102 children from first to fourth grade. The subjects were divided into two groups. The first group was composed of 34 children without lead poisoning or with poison at levels lower than 5 µg/dl. The second group was composed of 68 children with blood lead levels between 10 and 40 µg/ dl. The instruments used to evaluate the academic performance were anamnesis and a scholarly performance test called Teste de Desempenho Escolar, TDE. The results indicated better academic performances from the second group with significant differences in arithmetic, reading and general scores. In a comparison between genders, the girls had better performances than the boys. These results were consistent with the parents’ perception in anamnesis. Although other variables were present, the data showed great academic damage for children with higher leadpoison. These outcomes require political policies to control contamination and intervention in this population.

This paper aims to make a survey about the inclusion of children in need of special care in all schools and day nurseries (publics and privates) in ?Dois Córregos? city, in São Paulo. We interviewed 144 teachers and 14 school principals in 14 educational establishments ? 5 private schools, 5 state-owned schools, 2 municipal schools, 1 municipal nursery and 1 philanthropic nursery. The research aimed to investigate possible prejudices against the children in need of special care; verify if the schools have adequate infrastructure to receive the students in need of special care; and verify if the professionals who work in the schools are receiving (or received) specific training to work on this inclusion process. The results indicated that teachers who don?t work with children in need of special care are very insecure in receiving them. It?s evident that there are a lot of doubts and uncertainties about the inclusion system. In general, schools don?t have adequate infrastructure and most of the time the included students are those who have internal deficits, which are not evident.
