Objective: The aims of this study were to estimate the association between an atrisk drinking pattern and sociodemographic variables, and to compare the mean scores of the factors associated with the Burnout Syndrome, according to the alcohol consumption pattern in staff members from two Brazilian prisons. Methods: A crosssectional study was developed with 339 participants (response rate = 63.8%). The instruments used were a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), and the Maslach Burnout Inventory General Survey (MBIGS). Results: The participants average age was 40.2 (SD = 8.8) years, and 81.0% were male. Among 78.5% of participants (95%CI 74.1 82.8) reported consuming alcoholic beverages. The prevalence of atrisk drinking behavior in the sample was 22.4% (95%CI 18.0 26.9), and of the Burnout Syndrome was 14.6% (95%CI 10.8 18.4). We observed a significant association between atrisk drinking behavior with gender, higher risk for men (OR = 7.32, p < 0.001), smoking, increased risk for smokers (OR = 2.77, p < 0.001), and religious practice, showing lower risks for religion practitioners (OR = 0.364, p < 0.001). We noticed significantly higher mean scores (p < 0.001) of emotional exhaustion and cynicism, and lower scores of professional achievement among individuals who reported consuming alcoholic beverages. Conclusion: Men who smoke were more likely to develop an atrisk drinking pattern, while religion is presented as a protective factor. Individuals who consume alcohol were more affected by the different factors of the Burnout Syndrome.

Investigadores, um pouco por todo o mundo, comearam a preocupar-se com o fenmeno do burnout, ao identificarem este sintoma essencialmente nas profisses que envolviam uma relao assistencial ou de ajuda, como o caso dos mdicos, enfermeiros e psiclogos. Contudo, no tardou que se percebesse que este fenmeno pudesse tambm estar presente na profisso docente de uma forma muito significativa. A docncia , na atualidade, uma das profisses mais sujeitas a altos nveis de stresse, podendo levar ao burnout, caso se torne recorrente. Muitos docentes conseguem adaptar-se e reagir de uma forma funcional perante as dificuldades prprias da profisso, tornando-se profissionais engaged, ou seja, enquanto alguns professores vivenciam as dimenses negativas do burnout (exausto emocional, despersonalizao e perda de realizao profissional), outros experienciam as trs dimenses positivas do engagement (vigor, dedicao e absoro profissional). Com a entrada da chamada psicologia positiva, surge uma nova perspectiva de estudo que procura respostas para determinadas formas de envolvimento profissional. Assim, apesar do fenmeno do engagement ainda no estar muito estudado, encontrar professores engaged com a sua profisso tambm uma realidade presente em muitos pases. O recurso a estratgias de coping uma forma de lidar com as dificuldades inerentes ao exerccio da profisso docente. Logo, importante perceber de que forma a utilizao de determinado tipo de estratgia de coping poder conduzir ao burnout ou, preferencialmente, ao engagement.

El objetivo de este estudio fue describir el Sndrome de Burnout y la Calidad de Vida Laboral en el personal asistencial en una institucin de salud de segundo nivel ubicada en Bogot, y observar si existe relacin entre estos constructos. Se aplic el Inventario de Burnout de Maslach [MBI] y el Cuestionario de Calidad de Vida Profesional [CVP-35] a 62 participantes, pertenecientes a distintos campos del rea de la salud. Los resultados indicaron que el 38,7% de los participantes presentaron severidad alta y moderada del sndrome, no obstante, con un nivel de realizacin personal alto, que unido a la fuerte motivacin intrnseca encontrada, constituye un factor protector ante la alta carga laboral y el escaso apoyo directivo. El cansancio emocional correlacion directamente con la carga laboral e inversamente con la motivacin intrnseca. Se resalta la importancia de una eficiente gestin en las organizaciones de salud y la necesidad de una direccin ms centrada en las personas a fin de garantizar su bienestar, lo que redundar en su calidad de vida y en la atencin ofrecida.

Recibido 21 de julio de 2010 Aceptado 31 de agosto de 2010 Corregido 03 de octubre de 2010 Este artculo aborda el sndrome de Bournout, entendido como un trastorno de la adaptacin ante el estrs crnico laboral que logra desencadenar sntomas fsicos y psicolgicos, los cuales daan significativamente la ejecucin profesional de los individuos que prestan servicios, en este particular, el trabajo de los docentes de secundaria, los cuales se describen como vulnerables por atender a adolescentes, quienes requieren mayor comunicacin, atencin y gua por las caracterstica propias de esa etapa. Adems se describen algunos factores que pueden incidir en el docente, desde una perspectiva individual como por ejemplo estrs, rol, edad, estado civil, entre otros. Asmismo factores laborales tales como baja implicacin, sobre carga, burocracia, ambiente, consecuencias sobre el individuo y sobre la institucin y medidas para prevenirlo.

Introduction. Noise is a major cause of health disorders in workers and has unique importance in the auditory analysis of people exposed to it. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the arithmetic mean of the auditory thresholds at frequencies of 3, 4, and 6kHz of workers from five professional categories exposed to occupational noise. Methods. We propose a retrospective cross-sectional cohort study to analyze 2.140 audiograms from seven companies having five sectors of activity: one footwear company, one beverage company, two ceramics companies, two metallurgical companies, and two transport companies. Results. When we compared two categories, we noticed a significant difference only for cargo carriers in comparison to the remaining categories. In all activity sectors, the left ear presented the worst values, except for the footwear professionals (P > 0.05). We observed an association between the noise exposure time and the reduction of audiometric values for both ears. Significant differences existed for cargo carriers in relation to other groups. This evidence may be attributed to different forms of exposure. A slow and progressive deterioration appeared as the exposure time increased.

Este artigo baseia-se em dissertao de mesmo ttulo, apresentada Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina. Tem por objetivo estimar a prevalncia da sndrome de burnout em professores do Ensino Mdio da rede pblica estadual em Tubaro (SC). Um grupo de 101 professores de sete Escolas de Ensino Mdio, com atividades em sala de aula, responderam a um questionrio de dados sociodemogrficos e funcionais e ao Maslach burnout inventory - educators survey. Verificou-se a existncia de correlao entre os escores fatoriais das trs dimenses da sndrome de burnout e as variveis independentes. A prevalncia da sndrome de burnout foi de 12,9%. Encontrou-se correlao positiva entre tempo de servio e a dimenso Despersonalizao (r=0,2101; p=0,035), bem como entre a dimenso Despersonalizao e a situao funcional (r =0,2929; p=0,003). Os resultados indicam alta chance de desenvolvimento de burnout ou burnout em curso. A adoo de medidas de promoo sade mental dos professores poderia evitar a despersonalizao entre professores observada nesse estudo

A study was designed to determine how the degree programs in Information and library science available in 2000-2005 at the public universities of Madrid fit the tabour market needs of their students. The methodology used was the development of a questionnaire addressed to graduates. Although the number of surveys completed is not high (118), the authors believe that the results obtained permit a series of conclusions that may be extrapolated to the entire cohort.

The purpose of this article is to initiate a philosophical discussion about the ethical component of professional competence in nursing from the perspective of Brazilian nurses. Specifically, this article discusses professional competence in nursing practice in the Brazilian health context, based on two different conceptual frameworks. The first framework is derived from the idealistic and traditional approach while the second views professional competence through the lens of historical and dialectical materialism theory. The philosophical analyses show that the idealistic view of professional competence differs greatly from practice. Combining nursing professional competence with philosophical perspectives becomes a challenge when ideals are opposed by the reality and implications of everyday nursing practice.

We have tested the hypothesis that salivary cortisol increases after a competitive training match in top-level male professional soccer players divided in team A (n = 11) versus team B (n = 11). Saliva samples collected before and after the match were analyzed. Salivary cortisol concentrations were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The results from a two-way ANOVA with repeated measures showed no significant changes in salivary cortisol between either teams or time points (P > 0.05). Further investigation regarding competitive matches in a competition environment is warranted. In summary, the influence of intensive competitive training match alone appears to be minimal on salivary cortisol changes in top-level soccer adapted to this type of stress. From a practical application, the variability of the responses among the players leads us to suggest that there is a need to individually analyse the results with team sports.
