Teaching and learning representations have been more and more investigated in the Brazilian applied linguistics field, as it allows the understanding of the teachers representations and how they conceive the learning process. This practice facilitates the planning of actions to improve the educational system. This study aims at identifying, interpreting and discussing some representations related to the identity and professional view of English as a foreign language teachers in different school contexts of Natal-RN. The theoretical and methodological foundation for this research is Halliday s Systemic- Functional Linguistics (1994; HALLIDAY; MATHIESSEN, 2004; EGGINS, 1994, among others). Our goal was to reveal the teachers representations embedded in their language, mainly through the ideational metafunction, as language is the tool we use to express ourselves about the external world (events, qualities, things, etc) and the internal world (thoughts, beliefs, feelings, etc). The research corpus is made of 21 teacher narratives, generated from a questionnaire sent to the teachers, who were divided in two groups: Group 1 (public schools teachers) and Group 2 (private schools and English course teachers). Most of the participants seemed to be satisfied with their professional choice. Many of them see the job as a challenge and an opportunity to transmit knowledge. All of them affirmed that the English teacher is a professional, for different reasons; however, the low professional appreciation was a recurrent aspect among the studied narratives. When asked about where they work, the private school teachers seemed to be more satisfied with the teaching-learning process than the ones from the public schools. We believe that the data analyzed in this study is important to show how some English teachers from Natal-RN see their profession. The results might be used in continuing education courses as food-for-thought in group discussions, as it is extremely important to emphasize and stimulate this practice

The actual study proposes Raul d‟vila Pompia‟s O Ateneu (1888) among the most significant works in Brazilian Literature panorama, according to the perspective of verbal materiality of the Romanesque genre under a form nostalgia sign that, in its turn, ascends to the archaic origin poetry of fable. Along with large rereading of pertinent bibliography, it is gone here toward narrator Sergio‟s crnica de saudades on pursuit of showing it, firstly, as poetic language allegory updated in the novel technique; secondly, as radical metalanguage that still renders problematic several aspects of modern fictional prose

En el florescer de la modernidad brasilea, surge la poesa de Ceclia Meireles, revelando la mujer que opta conscientemente por la labor intelectual, por la especulacin filosfica del amor y por la pasin de escribir. La lectura de su obra representa um desafo a la sensibilidad del estudioso de la literatura. En esta disertacin, tratamos de ese trabajo em filigranas que la autora realiza. Nos situamos em las obras Viagem y Mar Absoluto como anclas simblicas de un discurso que nos remite a la relacin del poetar com el pensar. Se inserta, as, esa potica ceciliana en um modo filosfico platnico, trayendo elementos simblicos, mticos, metafricos capaces de remitirnos a las interpretaciones filosficas del siglo XX, tal la heideggeriana que entiende la poesa dentro del principio del eterno juego del ser, que es lo del prprio lenguaje. Nuestra preocupacin fundamental fue trillar los caminos del erostismo filosfico y la bsqueda de la autora em transcender la rigidez de los lmites entre el masculino y el femenino, lanzndose em um imaginario potico cristiano, reinterpretado neoplatonicamente. Se exponen Mujer y Letras al espejo, velando y desvelando marcas e trazos de identidad. Tal juego especular nos ofreci elementos poticos, estticos y una experiencia ceciliana del lenguaje del ser, designio de la poesa msma. De esta nuestra iniciativa, que es tambin reflejada y reflexiva, reunimos a las Letras la Filosofia, resaltando que ambas de manera diferente - nos dieron acceso a la construccin de esa poesa en que fulguran la escritura, el ser y la naturaleza metaforizada, caracterizando la multiplicidad de sentidos y la pluralidad de voces del presente y del pasado

La prsence de la Bible dans la posie du Boca do Inferno est un fait certain pour ceux qui gardent une mmoire littraire des compositions tnues comme sacres par la perception religieuse. Ce travail de conclusion de Mestrado, qui a comme titre Dieu et le diable dans la posie de Gregrio de Matos, pour rpondre la question portant sur la faon dont le pote baihanais s approprie de l hritage biblique, dveloppe le thme de la qute grgorienne des critures pour faire de la parodie au moment d laborer sa posie. Pour rendre effectif un tel travail, l tude fait recours surtout la fortune critique-thorique construite dans les essais de Haroldo de Campos qui se consacrent l oeuvre de Gregrio de Matos et aux textes bibliques en tant qu hritage littraire de haute valeur. Ce travail fait encore recours aux constatations sur l art-culture baroque formules par Helmut Hatzfeld et par Jos Antonio Maravall, et la thorie anthropaphagique de la formation de la culture brsilienne, tablie par Oswald de Andrade, fin de donner un support aux observations faites lors de la lecture de la posie grgorienne. L anthropophagie biblique mise en rite par Gregrio de Matos en tant que travail qui prcde l ironie parodique reprable dans ses textes est un aspect de son oeuvre qui rpond pour son caractre unique: rcits de la Bible juive, la posie de l Ecclsiaste et des passages des vangiles font cho dans l oeuvre du pote brsilien.

En plein XIXe sicle, Nsia Floresta Brasileira Augusta a crit sur deux voyages faits en Europe. Quelques annes plus tard, cette norte-rio-grandense a livr au public ses rcits de voyage : Itinraire d un voyage en Allemagne (1857) et Trois ans en Italie Suivis d un Voyage en Grce (1864/1872). Malgr les particularits qui entourent chacun de ces rcits, un aspect y est fortement prsent : les marques autobiographiques. Notre travail a comme principal objectif enquter comment se manifeste ce discours autobiographique. A partir de l‟Analyse du Discours, nous avons travaill quelques positionnements sur certaines oeuvres littraires, comme par exemple, le fait qu‟elles aient plus d‟un genre. Ce qui se passe dans les rcits de voyage de Nsia Floresta est semblable, car au-dl de raconter le passage de Nsia par ces lieux, nous pouvons trouver des caractristiques qui appartiennent l‟criture fragmentaire, autobiographique et pistolaire. Devant les propositions indiques par Philippe Lejeune, nous avons pu confirmer que ces rcits de Nsia font partie de l‟criture autobiographique. Sous l‟optique de quelques thories, nous avons parcouru des points intressants qui enveloppent ces rcits et, de cette faon, nous avons voyag avec Nsia Floresta par l‟Allemagne et ultrieurement par l‟Italie et Grce, en connaissant ainsi, pas seulement un peu plus sur ces lieux, mais beaucoup de confidences sur cette crivain potiguar, qui a ouvert son coeur au plublic

In this dissertation we argue that the work Terra Natal, by the poet Ferreira Itajub, presents, predominantly, themes and forms typical of the Romantic period, although it came out in 1914, when the romantic aesthetic was no longer popular in Brazilian Literature. Firstly, we discuss about Ferreira Itajub s biography, his bibliographic production as well as the critical fortune of his works. Secondly, we outline the course of the Romantic Movement from its emergence in Europe to its arrival in Brazil as well as its impact in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Finally, we analyze of Terra Natal, taking into account other aspects such as context and structure through the analysis of the poems VII, IX, XVIII, XXI and also of the song Viola , inserted in the poem VIII. We highlight the following romantic themes during the analysis: exile, nostalgia for the past, cult of native land, the romantic view of woman, projection of soul s state on nature, and religiosity. We will try to create dialogues between Terra Natal and works of popular Romantic Brazilian writers, such as Gonalves Dias, Casimiro de Abreu, Jos de Alencar,Visconde de Taunay and Castro Alves, in order to show the affiliation of the above-referenced work and the Romantic ideals

The diachronic studies marked the first decades of the 20th century in Brazilian linguistics, passing by an ostracism period after the 50s. Mainly from the 90s especially with the project, created in 1997, Para a histria do portugus brasileiro (PHPB), which has systemized, in national ambit, the programme related to the area of diachrony the historical studies retake forces and have gradually increased since then. Our work is set in the new scene of Brazilian historical linguistics and it is associated to two research programmes: i) the constitution of a diachronic corpus; ii) the diachrony of text and discourse. As regards the first programme, we made effort to constitute a diachronic corpus of official letters about Rio Grande do Norte, we called cartas oficiais norte-rio-grandenses, written in 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. The chosen for bureaucrat letters occurred for they represent a textual category very productive in historical contexts, mostly 18th and 19th centuries, in which the command of writing was the least and also because they bring, almost always explicitly, the information of where, when, for whom and from whom, as remembers Fonseca (2003). The rules for constituting the corpus were based, although not strictly, on the orientation from PHPB. In respect to the second programme, we set up on the ideas of coserian base came from the studies on discourse traditions (TD) (Koch, 1997; Kabatek, 2006) amongst which that the texts are shaped so as to follow their own tradition (Coseriu, 2007), and we turned to Diplomatics (Belloto, 2002) in order to do the characterization of this corpus by the application of concepts from Diplomatics and TD as well as by the presentation of the structures that form those official letters: their textual genres, a kind of TD, with their macrostructures; and some of their formulaic expressions (microstructures), another sort of TD. This stage of characterizing will pay attention, as far as possible, to the dynamic between tradition and innovation that happen in the actualization of those textual structures along the centuries. This work intends to contribute with the researches connected to Historical Linguistics in Rio Grande do Norte, more specifically the ones related to the constitution of diachronic corpora and to TD; and with the study of official documents, textual category about which there are almost no studies (cf. Silveira, 2007)

This work brings up a review on the poetic works of Cruz e Sousa, a nineteenth-century Brazilian poet. Laughter has been chosen as an analytical category, because it is a pertinent theme which makes possible a more accurate comprehension of the lyric content of Cruz e Sousa s poetic works. The laughter manifested in his verses is seen as a mechanism which compensates both normativeness and seriousness, as well as turns inside out whatever society establishes as being natural or an absolute truth. Amongst his poems, we will focus on the ones which express their lyric nature both through laughter and irony, since these elements serve as a means to criticize the Brazilian society in the late nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century. This study is guided by theories of laughter proposed by Minois (2003), Bakhtin (1993), Bergson (2007), as well as Adorno s (2003) and Antonio Candido s (2010) theoretical assumptions concerning lyric poetry and society

Estudio sobre los libros Cl do jabuti, de Mrio de Andrade, y Catimb, de Ascenso Ferreira, publicados en el ao de 1927. Dentro del contexto del Modernismo en los aos de 1920, se evidencia la filiacin de los poetas con las tendencias literarias modernista y regionalista. Eso se confirma por los elementos introducidos en sus poesas, en las referidas obras, que traen el sentido de brasilidade discutido en la poca, especficamente en el momento post1924. Tales elementos se refieren a las marcas de la oralidad que fueron aprovechadas esteticamente en los referidos textos, en lo que toca a la representacin que poseen en el mbito de la tradicin de la cultura popular brasilea. En ese sentido, fue establecida una relacin entre la moderna literatura nacional y la tradicin de la cultura popular. Los textos observados muestran la diversidad cultural del pas por medio de tales marcas, distinguindose por el aspecto nacionalista de Mrio de Andrade, en consonancia con el proyecto de nacin idealizado, y por el aspecto nacionalista/regionalista de Ascenso Ferreira, saliendo al encuentro de elementos nacionales y regionales. Siendo as, Cl do jabuti es un repertorio de todo Brasil y representacin de la cultura nacional, de acuerdo con la brasilidade propuesta a partir de 1924; y Catimb es la cristalizacin potica, en tonos de una brasilidade ms nortea, de las particularidades de la regin

La prsente recherche examine dans son ensemble l' uvre considrable du "paulista" Jos Paulo Paes da Silva (1926-1998). La premire partie de la recherche fait connatre l'importante activit professionnelle de cet auteur, en situant dans leur contexte particulier les diffrentes modalits du travail qu'il a rgulirement accompli en tant qu'"ditoraire", traducteur et essayiste. La deuxime partie est consacre la lecture critique de sa posie pigrammatique. La riche bibliographie qui est le rsultat de l'effort intellectuel de l'crivain, est consigne la fin du volume. Il s'agit donc d'une tude ayant pour but d'esquisser la physionomie littraire d'une personnalit qui a marqu de sa prsence la culture brsilienne dans la seconde moiti du XXe sicle

This work brings some reading about a few Norte-rio-grandenses writers collaborations published in literary papers which circulated during the third decade of the twentieth century in Brazil, in a way of enlarging the understanding of how the cultural debate was carried out in the years of the definition of the Brazilian Modernism, based on the relationships between literature and culture. Under the genres of prose and poetry, the selected textual collaborations for analysis have brought the traces of a small group of articulated authors in the Brazilian cultural scenery from the 1920 s, concerning the issues of the modern (linked to the modernist renovation) and the regional (under the aspects of the tradition). The set of the analyzed collaborations is representative of a modern-regional cultural practice marked by a tendency either local or cosmopolitan, thus, sharing a large dimension of the formation of the modern literary tradition, marked by different kinds of practices which give form to the project of a collective national awareness. The characterization of the existence of an intellectual field with big links, however with its own characteristics and a certain autonomy, which also gets integrated to the cultural debate of the so-called modernist years through the literary vehicles, gives to these intellectual people a co-participation in the renewing movement in the formation context of the brazilian cultural modernity of the early twentieth century

The present work makes some comments on the scattered productions of Gilberto Freyre and Lus da Cmara Cascudo, in the period which includes the early years of their intellectual performance, the second decade of the twentieth century. The corpus of the research is delimited on the texts published by Gilberto Freyre, from 1918 to 1926, which were gathered in the book Tempo de aprendiz (1979), and from the ones published by Cmara Cascudo in Natal local newpapers, such as A Imprensa and A Repblica, in 1924, 1927, 1928 and 1929. Concerning Cmara Cascudo s texts, the delimitations of these years is due to they had a relevant importance for the literary and cultural history of Rio Grande do Norte. The included discussions in these writers texts mainly happen around the modernist and regionalist ideas that happened restrictively in the Northeast region of Brazil, and are based on the relationships between literature and culture. Thus, the set of collaborations of both writers is useful as a sample of the intellectual thinking of the mentioned region. Besides, it is representative in the way the cultural debate got along in the country, which in turn, demanded the inclusion of the local realities in order to follow the renewing process of the worldwide thinking, and as matter of fact, arrange a new process in the Brazilian literary tradition. In this way, the study goals to set the positions taken by the two writers faced to the new challenges that the Brazilian reality of that moment was imposed on. The theoretical basis of this work is focused on the accumulated studies about the Brazilians modernism, regionalism and literature, pointing out the Candido s texts, (2006, 2004, 2002, 1995, 1993 and 1989), Schwarz s (1999, 1997a and 1997b), Perrone- Moyss s (2007), Pallares-Burque s (2005), Azevedo s(1996), D Andrea s (1992), Arajo s (2006, 1998, 1997 and 1995), among other authors. Therefore, It is relevant the participation of both writers in that moment which highlights the renewing of the national thinking and the formation of the Brazilian cultural modernity, even the positions taken by them reveal, at times, different views concerning literature and tradition without being disagreeing, however

Este trabajo busca demostrar cmo la figura intelectual de Caetano Veloso es importante en el escenario de la cultura brasilea, presentando el anlisis de algunas canciones de su produccin musical, desde el momento heroico del Tropicalismo hasta las composiciones ms recientes. Busca tambin, resaltar lo que el cancionista refleja en sus ensayos, referente a temas esenciales para la interpretacin de Brasil en cuanto a la constitucin de su identidad cultural. El pensamiento del mestizo de Caetano Veloso se investiga en su proyecto de canciones, para evidenciar su intervencin en el mundo de la cultura, posibilitando una discusin que refleja las relaciones significativas entre la literatura y la msica, adems de favorecer un dilogo evidente con otros discursos estticos

Diese These besteht aus der Analyse der Enteignungsverhltnisse und der Misselung, welche in den Texten der Ursprung des Kunstwerkes und die Hymnen Hlderlins vorkommen. Germanien und der Rhein sind in den 30en-Jahren letzten Jahrhunderts von Martin Heidegger verfasst worden. Ab anwendung der kritischen Methodologia von Harold Bloom und der starken Texgestaltung von Richard Rorty wird es deutlich, dass die Heideggers Lesungen der Hlderlins Poesia als ei Ersatzversuch der von Hegel entwickelte Kulturgeschichte ab deutescher berlieferung klassicher Studien, die das tragische Erlebnis der alten Griechen als grundlegender Punkt des Westen Daseins vorbringen, verstanden werden knnen. So verlegt Heidegger die Aufbauachse der Entstehungserzlung des Abendlandes in Richtung Dichtkunst, indem er in seiner Wendung zum Dichterischen gleichzeitig auf der Suche nach einer abweichenden Feststellung der vorherrschaftlichen These ist, in welcher die Tragdie das grosse Antrittsereignis der westlichen Zivilisation darstellt, und darber hinaus noch der Herstellung einer innigen Verbindung zwischen der Poesie von Hlderlin und Hesiudus, um die Enge der dichterischen berinstimmung zu zeigen, welche die alten Griechen und die zeitegemssigen Deutschen verbrnde. Dieser geistige Aufbau Heideggers hat man somit als ein berholungsversuch Hegels Einfluss und Denkungsart zur Vollendung der von Nietzsche begonnenen berwindungsaufgabe des Hegelianismuszu verstehen
