Description of a procedure to identify strategies: The case of the tiles problem

In this paper we present a procedure to describe strategies in problems which can be solved using inductive reasoning. This procedure is based on some aspects of the analysis of the specific subject matter, concretely on the elements, the representation systems and the transformations involved. We show an example of how we used this procedure for the tiles problem. Finally we present some results and conclusions.

Análisis del aprendizaje de geometría espacial en un entorno de geometría dinámica 3-dimensional

El creciente uso de software de geometría dinámica 3-dimensional plantea nuevas cuestiones a los investigadores en Educación Matemática. Para aportar información sobre el aprendizaje de geometría espacial en esta disciplina mediante entornos de geometría dinámica 3-dimensional, y sobre posibles fortalezas y debilidades de tales entornos, presentamos resultados de una investigación experimental en la que se analiza cómo un estudiante de altas capacidades matemáticas aprende conceptos relativos a paralelismo entre rectas y/o planos en el espacio mediante la resolución de actividades en un entorno de Cabri 3D.

A couple of embroiled sheets of Miguel Barnades Manaider and Esteban de Prado in the Herbaria of Real Colegio Alfonso XII of San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Madrid)

In this paper we present a couple of sheets of Umbelliferae that are preserved in the RCAXII herbaria. One of them, Selinum carvifolia, where collected in the Gredos Mountains by Miguel Barnades Mainader and was identified by his son Miguel Barnades Clarís. The other, Tragium flabellifolium, was collected in Mieres (Asturias) by Esteban de Prado and identified by Mariano La Gasca.

The “re-socialization” of Gypsy women in the literacy courses aimed to the recipients of the Social Integration Revenue Policy of the Region of Madrid

This article studies the gender values that are promoted both in the literacy courses for gypsy women beneficiaries of the Social Integration Revenue Policy of the Region of Madrid and in the events that are organized for this group by public institutions and NGOs. The process of “socialization” that occurs in the educative groups for Gypsy women is focused on constructing an image of what it is to be a “Gypsy modern woman”. Through multiple mechanisms and discursive techniques a specific conception of gender equality is transmitted in these educative spaces. In addition to this, Gypsy women are continually urged to assume certain values and social practices (of gender identity, of "citizenship", of parenting, etc..), while an archetype of "Gypsy Woman" which condenses powerful stereotypes and prejudices about the "Gypsy culture" and the gender relations characteristics of this group is constructed.

Unraveling EU Policies: the ““Common Basic Principles”” and the ““European Integration Fund”” as a technology of government

this paper is about EU “soft policies” on immigrant integration. It analyzes the “Common Basic Principles” (CBPs) and the “European Integration Fund” (EIF), two devices that have been recently established within this framework. It adopts the theoretical perspective of the “anthropology of policy” and “governmentality studies”. It shows the context of birth of the aforementioned devices, as well as their functioning and the assessment done by the actors implied in the elaboration/implementation/evaluation of the related policies. It is based both on documentary research as well as direct observation and interviews done to the actors implied. It concludes that the PBC and the EIF should be considered as a “technology of government”, that strives to align the conduct of the actors with the governmental aims, as well as it produces specific practices and knowledge. It also underlines an intrinsic feature of many policies: their “congenital failure”, since they are (often) disputed and resignified by situated actors, who are embedded in asymmetrical power relations.

Citizenship training in school from the perspective of future primary education teachers

The aim of this paper is to recognize the images that prospective elementary school teachers have about citizenship and citizenship education in school. The qualitative methodology with an ethnographic approach is used for that deep interview of ethnographic kind and analysis of institutional documents, for example, curricula, course syllabus and graduated profi le. The revision of documents helps to a better understanding of discourses. The analysis of the corpus obtained after the application of the paradigm of codifi cation proposed in the established theory. As the principal fi ndings we way point out that the concept of citizens that is common among prospective elementary school teachers is reduced to the school environment because they consider that the promotion of citizenship helps to the incorporation of children to society, thus reproducing a propaedeutic view of education.

Rethinking the identity artist-researcher, from the project “Dialogues with women art teachers”

The questioning of identity and the various roles that artists have begun to explore, from the last century, are fundamental aspects in this article. Today it is difficult to speak of the artist as individual isolated innate talent working in his studio, but the various social, political and cultural effects, have moved the artists to become part of the social world and to generate artistic practices that visualize and manifest critically these concerns. To explain these transits deeper, we will share part of the personal artistic practice and reflections, and how it has begun to intertwine with the doctoral research, through the art project “Dialogues with women art teachers”. From the experience as an artist and researcher in training, we will share what this project of artistic inquiry is about and reflect their points with the notion of `artistic practice as research´ developed by Graeme Sullivan (2010, 2011). On the other hand, we will seek to reflect how the identities of `artist´ and `academic´ are in constant dialogue. This art project seeks to show that these identities are not in a fixed position, but rather reflect, from the place of an artist, how through the various shifts in different disciplines, can conceive an identity ‘in-between’. The latter refers to the ability to understand the processes of being a woman, artist and researcher who travels and forms its identity among both disciplines.

Introducing the CTA concept

The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is a new observatory for very high-energy (VHE) gamma rays. CTA has ambitions science goals, for which it is necessary to achieve full-sky coverage, to improve the sensitivity by about an order of magnitude, to span about four decades of energy, from a few tens of GeV to above 100 TeV with enhanced angular and energy resolutions over existing VHE gamma-ray observatories. An international collaboration has formed with more than 1000 members from 27 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and North and South America. In 2010 the CTA Consortium completed a Design Study and started a three-year Preparatory Phase which leads to production readiness of CTA in 2014. In this paper we introduce the science goals and the concept of CTA, and provide an overview of the project. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

La Pesca artesanal marina en la Región La Libertad, Perú

En la Región La Libertad se encuentran asentadas 11 comunidades pesqueras artesanales y 21 organizaciones de pescadores artesanales legalmente registradas, con un total de 1191 integrantes además de un número semejante de pescadores artesanales informales. Se reconocieron 9 artes y aparejos de pesca, así como la extracción manual y por buceo. El arte de pesca más utilizado es la red cortina, con tamaños de malla que varían de 4 - 36 cm. El aparejo más utilizado es el espinel de superficie con tamaños de anzuelo desde el número 1 al 5. La flota artesanal está compuesta por 4 tipos de embarcaciones: lancha, bote, chalana y caballito de totora. La capacidad de bodega varía de 0,5 t a 20 t, mientras que los caballitos de totora su capacidad de carga es de 100 k. Se identificaron 31 especies de macroalgas marinas siendo Chondracanthus chamissoi (yuyo) y Gracilariopsis lemanaeformis (pelillo) de importancia económica. En invertebrados marinos se identificaron 69 especies, de las cuales 68 especies son costeras y 1 es oceánica Dosidicus gigas (pota). De las especies costeras, 9 son de importancia comercial: Platyxanthus orbignyi (cangrejo violáceo), Stramonita chocolata (caracol negro), Octopus mimus (pulpo), Argopecten purpuratus (concha de abanico), Semele solida y S.corrugata (almeja), Emerita analoga (muy muy), Pattalus mollis (pepino de mar), Donax sp. (palabritas). Se identificaron 112 especies de peces, 89 de ellas corresponden a peces óseos y 23 a cartilaginosos.
