Tämän tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvittää Imatran kaupungin teknisen toimen nykyinen tietojärjestelmäarkkitehtuuri, sekä selvittää, kuinka hyvin käytettävät tietojärjestelmät tukevat teknisen toimen tuottamaa omakotirakentajan palveluprosessia. TyÃn teoriaosassa syvennyttiin palvelujen hallintaan, tietojärjestelmiin ja paikkatietojärjestelmiin. TyÃn empiirisessä osassa tutkittiin, kuinka toimiva käytÃssä oleva järjestelmäkokonaisuus on. Tutkimus osoitti, että käytÃssä olevat tietojärjestelmät ja ohjelmistot ovat tehokkaita ja tarkoituksenmukaisia. Teknologian kehittämisen lisäksi tulee kiinnittää huomiota tyÃskentelytapojen kehittämiseen ja yhtenäistämiseen esimerkiksi sähkÃisen prosessin seurantalomakkeen, tietokantojen päivittämisen, sekä paperisten aineistojen digitoimisen avulla. Tietojärjestelmäarkkitehtuurin tulee olla yksinkertainen ja päällekkäisiä toimintoja kannattaa välttää. Paikkatietojärjestelmien muuttaminen selainpohjaisiksi tehostaa eri tietolähteiden hyÃdyntämistä. HenkilÃstÃn riittävä tietojärjestelmäkoulutus on tärkeää.

The study focuses on primary school teachersâ perceptions of environmental education, its integration into primary school education and teachersâ teaching practices in Tanzania. The thesis is based on empirical research. The theoretical underpinnings of the study are based on Palmerâs (1998) model of environmental education. According to the model, meaningful environmental education should include education about, in or through and for the environment. The study is supported by national and international literature from research done on environmental education and education for sustainable development and policy statements. The study is qualitative in nature, adopting phenomenography and phenomenology as points of departure. The empirical data was collected from four primary schools in Morogoro region in Tanzania. The study sample consisted of 31 primary school teachers. Data was collected through interviews and lesson observations. According to the results of the study, primary school teachers expressed variations in their perceptions of environmental education and education for sustainable development. Most of the teachers focused on the aspect of knowledge acquisition. According to Tanzanian education and training policy, environmental education has to be integrated into all subjects. Although there is environmental education in the primary school curriculum, it is not integrated on an equal footing in all subjects. Some subjects like science, social studies and geography have more environmental content than other subjects. Teachers claim that the approach used to integrate environmental education into the school curriculum was not favoured because many claimed that what is to be taught as environmental education in the various subjects is not shown clearly. As a result, many teachers suggested that to ensure that it is taught properly it should be included in the curriculum as an independent subject or as specific topics. The study revealed that teachersâ teaching practices in integrating environmental education varied from one subject to another. Although most of the teachers said that they used participatory methods, lesson observations showed that they limited themselves to question and answer and group discussion. However, the teachers faced a number of barriers in the teaching of environmental education, some of which include lack of teaching and learning resources, time and large class size. The role of teachers in the implementation of environmental education in developing an environmentally literate citizenry is of great significance. The responsibility of the government in developing a curriculum with clear goals and content, developing teachersâ capacity in the teaching of environmental education and provision of teaching and learning materials needs to be taken seriously by the government in educational plans and programs.

BACKGROUND: Simulation techniques are spreading rapidly in medicine. Suc h resources are increasingly concentrated in Simulation Laboratories. The MSRP-USP is structuring such a laboratory and is interested in the prevalence of individual initiatives that could be centralized there. The MSRP-USP currently has five full-curriculum courses in the health sciences: Medicine, Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy, Nutrition, and Occupational Therapy, all consisting of core disciplines. GOAL: To determine the prevalence of simulation techniques in the regular courses at MSRP-USP. METHODS: Coordinators of disciplines in the various courses were interviewed using a specifically designed semi-structured questionnaire, and all the collected data were stored in a dedicated database. The disciplines were grouped according to whether they used (GI) or did not use (GII) simulation resources. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: 256 disciplines were analyzed, of which only 18.3% used simulation techniques, varying according to course: Medicine (24.7.3%), Occupational Therapy (23.0%), Nutrition (15.9%), Physical Therapy (9.8%), and Speech Therapy (9.1%). Computer simulation programs predominated (42.5%) in all five courses. The resources were provided mainly by MSRP-USP (56.3%), with additional funding coming from other sources based on individual initiatives. The same pattern was observed for maintenance. There was great interest in centralizing the resources in the new Simulation Laboratory in order to facilitate maintenance, but there was concern about training and access to the material. CONCLUSIONS: 1) The MSRP-USP simulation resources show low complexity and are mainly limited to computer programs; 2) Use of simulation varies according to course, and is most prevalent in Medicine; 3) Resources are scattered across several locations, and their acquisition and maintenance depend on individual initiatives rather than central coordination or curricular guidelines

Uudelle toimialalle siirtyminen tuo mukanaan yrityksille monenlaisia haasteita. Tämän tyÃn tavoitteena on rakentaa SOL Palvelut Oy:n uusien turvatarkastuspalveluiden johdolle helppokäyttÃinen suorituskykymittaristo nykytilanteen kartoittamiseen sekä päätÃksenteon tukemiseen. Mittariston rakentamiseen käytetään Lappeenrannan teknillisen yliopiston kehittämää Excel-pohjaista Sake-ohjelmistoa. Lisäksi tyÃn tarkoituksena on tarjota mittaustulosten, teorioiden sekä oman kokemuksen pohjalta muutamia kehitysehdotuksia palvelun tuottamisen parantamiseksi. Oma kokemuspohja syntyy turvatarkastajan peruskurssin suorittamisen sekä itse turvatarkastajan tyÃn tekemisen kautta. Teoriaosuudet käsittelevät palveluiden laatujohtamista, viestintää, motivointia sekä suorituskyvyn mittaamista. Aihealueet ovat määräytyneet mittariston rakentamisen tarpeen, mittaustulosten sekä havaittujen kehityskohteiden kautta. Teorioiden lisäksi tyÃssä tutkitaan turvatarkastuspalveluiden tuottamisen taustalla vaikuttavia tekijÃitä kuten lainsäädäntÃä, ilmailumääräyksiä sekä kilpailua. TyÃn empiriaosuus koostuu puolestaan mittariston rakentamisen vaiheista sekä varsinaisten mittaustulosten käsittelemisestä ja hyÃdyntämisestä. TyÃlle asetetut tavoitteet täyttyivät hyvin ja yrityksen johdolle kyettiin rakentamaan hyvällä pohjalla oleva suorituskyvyn mittausjärjestelmä. Nykyarvojen perusteella pystyttiin kartoittamaan yrityksen nykytilaa ja sitä kautta voitiin luoda kehitysehdotuksia toimintojen tehostamiseksi. Erityisiksi kehityskohteiksi nousivat talous, koulutus sekä henkilÃstÃ. Näiden tulosten sekä oman tyÃkokemuksen pohjalta tyÃssä on käsitelty kehitysehdotuksia, jotka koskevat mm. viestintää, palkitsemista, palveluohjaajia, koulutuksen kannattavuutta sekä tyÃvuoroja.

Any inconsistent theory whose underlying logic is classical encompasses all the sentences of its own language. As it denies everything it asserts, it is useless for explaining or predicting anything. Nevertheless, paraconsistent logic has shown that it is possible to live with contradictions and still avoid the collapse of the theory. The main point of this paper is to show that even if it is formally possible to isolate the contradictions and to live with them, this cohabitation is neither desired by working scientists not desirable for the progress of science. Several cases from the recent history of physics and cosmology are analyzed.

The purpose of the dissertation is to investigate how different institutional settings affect accounting conservatism. These aspects are of interest because prior studies show that accounting quality is influenced not only by accounting standards, but also by incentives from the financial reporting environment. Accounting quality could be defined as the usefulness of financial reporting to investors and other parties in contractual relationships with the firm. In this thesis it is measured by a single, but important attribute, accounting conservatism. Conservatism is understood as asymmetric timeliness of loss and gain recognition. The study examines the role and the users of financial statements, and how changes in both respectively affect accounting conservatism. These two questions are explored in two different research environments, the Nordic countries and the transitional economies of Europe. The results of the dissertation indicate that the degree of accounting conservatism increases the closer the financial statement comes to fulfilling the informational role of financial reporting. Secondly, it is also implied that foreign investors demand conservative accounting numbers in order to mitigate the problem of information asymmetry. Overall, the findings suggest that earnings conservatism is useful and increases the quality of financial information for the purpose of decision-making and contracting. These results are of relevance to managers, investors and other users of financial reporting information, as well as to standard setters.

Teknologiateollisuuden asiantuntijapalveluorganisaatiot joutuvat nopeasti muuttuvan toimintaympäristÃn vuoksi aika ajoin toteuttamaan strategisen muutoksen toimintansa kehittämiseksi. Tämän tyÃn tavoitteena oli selvittää, millä tavoin asiantuntijapalveluorganisaatio voi toimintaansa kehittää. Tutkimuksessa keskityttiin kartoittamaan strategista muutosta palveluprosessien, palvelukonseptien sekä palvelujärjestelmän osalta teoreettisesti sekä kohdeyrityksenä toimineen asiantuntijapalveluorganisaation kannalta. Teoreettinen osuus perustuu alan kirjallisuuteen sekä verkkolähteisiin. Kohdeyrityksen osalta tutkimusta tehtiin pääosin perustuen yrityksen henkilÃstÃlle tehtyihin kvalitatiivisiin sekä vapaamuotoisiin teemahaastatteluihin sekä yrityksen sisäisiin dokumentteihin. Tutkimuksen tuloksena todettiin tärkeiden kehityskohteiden olevan henkilÃstÃn koulutus, motivointi sekä tehokas allokointi; toimintatapojen standardointi asiakaslähtÃisyys säilyttäen; ydin- ja lisäpalveluajattelun lisääminen markkinatilanteen mukaisesti; asiakasstrategian luominen sekä organisaatiorakenteen sovittaminen henkilÃstÃresursseja parhaiten tukevaksi.

How can the holy craft of liturgy be trained? A study of approaches to instruction in training oral skills within education of the Norwegian clergy The theme of this study is the competence of expression of clerics performing liturgies as part of their duties in the Norwegian Lutheran Church. The aim of the study is to find a teaching practice which can raise the competence in oral expression characteristic of the clergy profession. The teaching practice is explored and discussed within the context of the basic education of the clergy. The main thesis is formulated as a question: How can the holy craft of liturgy be trained? An underpinning of the study is that liturgical acts are holy, which gives these performances an aspect of otherness. This otherness constitutes a clear agreement between the students and the teacher, and between the professional and the employer. The pre-understanding of the researcher is that these liturgical oral acts are trainable, and that there is a need and a necessity to train in these skills. Three research questions are elaborated on in the explorative section of the study: ⢠What is characteristic of a competence of expression connected to the profession? ⢠How can this competence of expression connected to liturgical performance be developed? ⢠What is the importance of this competence in the holy craft of liturgy for the development of a cohesive professional self-understanding? The study is based on a research and development project where the researcher as the teacher and students from one specific clergy education in Norway (MF) were the source of the empirical material. The empirical data came from practice with two external observers⺠logs on the coaching, video observations, of the teacher and the students⺠texts on the practice under study, which is liturgical performance. The researcherâºs log and field notes also provide material for the analysis. This is a qualitative project and an arts education project carried out within an interpretative framework. The theoretical framework has three perspectives: a structural approach based on the system theory of Niklas Luhmann, an epistemological approach discussing forms of knowledge in practice or informing practice and an arts education approach. The results indicate that the competence in oral liturgical performance can be considered a trainable skill, and that this training can be understood as an arts education method of instruction based on meaningful communication, dramaturgical thinking and the development of authenticity. The main result from this study can be considered as articulating and sketching the contours of the field of knowledge where the students embody the meaning of the clergy profession â and this articulation has an innovative potential as knowledge combining experience and theoretical understanding.

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how the dimensions of market orientation and entrepreneurial orientation are carried out in small and medium-sized enterprises (SME). In addition, the research aims to answer how these strategic orientations are apparent in SMEs, how the orientations co-vary, and how the dimensions of orientations are carried out in successful SMEs. The qualitative case study was participated by 16 SMEs. The research sample was gathered trough face-to-face interviews, consisting of Likert scale statements and open-ended questions. The main restriction of implementing market and entrepreneurial orientations in SMEs were scarce resources. Thus, the enterprises were required to make trade-offs between the different dimensios of orientations. Risk-aversive enterprises had emphasis on reactive customer orientation whereas, willing to take risks was generally related to proactiveness. Proactive enterprises utilized interfunctional coordination, and innovativeness was supported by value network coordination. The majority of the successful enterprises were growth-oriented, aiming to be technologial leaders in their industries. The successful firms placed similar emphasis on customer and product orientation.

The theme of this thesis is the learning process that occurs when teachers become professional voice users. The aim is to explore what it (really) means to become a professional voice user in a teaching profession; thereby developing an understanding of how future education in this field can be arranged so as to both effectively prevent vocal problems and to develop oral didactical competence among teachers. The ambition is to describe, interpret, and understand the learning process through a combination of emic and ethic research perspectives. The theoretical frame of reference reflects the cross disciplinary character of the thesis. Voice problems are common among both student teachers and inservice teachers and adversely affect professional competence, identity and quality of life. Additionally, vocal problems are proven to have a negative impact on pupils´ learning. The individual elements of learning are explored in the light of experiential learning theory and transformative learning theory. The social elements of learning are explored in relation to the theory of situated learning. In addition, theories of teacher professionalisation in terms of competence and identity are outlined. The empirical study has a longitudinal and multi method character. It is anchored in a phenomenological hermeneutical tradition, more specifically in narrative inquiry. The point of departure is the learning experiences of ten student teachers, who attended a ten week long course on voice production as part of their teacher training at Ãbo Akademi University, in the autumn of 2002 and the spring of 2003. Four interviews in the form of conversations were conducted with each participant. These were crystallised with a process diary, a Swedish Voice Handicap Index, a voice observation, and a video observation. A fifth interview was conducted with each participant five years post teacher training, in the spring of 2008. Participant observation was also conducted throughout the course. The research materials have been analysed and interpreted narratively using a phenomenological hermeneutical method. The results are presented descriptively as individual narratives, which are reflected in logopedic research materials. Learning is here understood as emergent awareness. This is followed by a meta narrative concerning learning as experiences in the four dimensions body, thought, feeling, and relation. Finally, interpretation is expressed with respect to the theory of relational education. Learning is here understood as a movement in the field between the actual and the possible voice. It is also viewed as fundamentally rooted in inter-human relationships, in moments of presence and coexistence. As a tentative answer to the call for an existential space for learning in order to be a professional voice user, I suggest the concept of a learning refuge as a locus for a learning process built on trust, mutuality and openness.
