Libertad contractual y pactos parasociales

L'objecte del present treball és doble. D'una banda tractem d'examinar la naturalesa dels pactes parasocials com una manifestació del principi de llibertat contractual i, per tant, de l'autonomia de la voluntat i, d'una altra, analitzar la conflictivitat que tals pactes estan provocant en relació amb el dret de societats. En tant que tals pactes, quan es perfeccionen entre tots els socis, constituïxen, junt amb els estatuts, el verdader contingut contractual de la societat, en especial quan es tracta de societats tancades, resulta un element d'incertesa que la seua operativitat quede en dubte com ocorre en la pràctica. Pensem en la importància que un pacte parasocial representa per a la protecció dels interessos de les minories i el sentiment de fracàs que es genera quan, pretenent aplicar allò que s'ha pactat per a preservar tals drets, no resulten operatius en tot allò que no haja resultat incorporat als estatuts socials, com a conseqüència de l'existència de dos categories d'obligacions contractuals: unes que, subjectes al dret de societats, representen uns drets i obligacions de categoria superior, que aquelles incloses en els pactes parasocials, que se subjecten al dret contractual. Per això, al final del treball, s'apunta la conveniència de, en la línia iniciada pel legislador quant a la regulació dels protocols familiars, normativitzar el tractament de tals pactes parasocials quan es tracte de defendre els drets de les minories socials. Finalment, la tendència legislativa de resoldre la problemàtica de la dicotomía, dret contractual versus dret societari, suscita una esperança amb el projecte de llei de modificació de la llei 60/2003 de arbitratge, en tramitació parlamentària en estos moments, on es contempla la possibilitat de sotmetre a arbitratge la impugnació d'acords socials.

Genetic variants in novel pathways influence blood pressure and cardiovascular disease risk.

Blood pressure is a heritable trait influenced by several biological pathways and responsive to environmental stimuli. Over one billion people worldwide have hypertension (≥140 mm Hg systolic blood pressure or  ≥90 mm Hg diastolic blood pressure). Even small increments in blood pressure are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events. This genome-wide association study of systolic and diastolic blood pressure, which used a multi-stage design in 200,000 individuals of European descent, identified sixteen novel loci: six of these loci contain genes previously known or suspected to regulate blood pressure (GUCY1A3-GUCY1B3, NPR3-C5orf23, ADM, FURIN-FES, GOSR2, GNAS-EDN3); the other ten provide new clues to blood pressure physiology. A genetic risk score based on 29 genome-wide significant variants was associated with hypertension, left ventricular wall thickness, stroke and coronary artery disease, but not kidney disease or kidney function. We also observed associations with blood pressure in East Asian, South Asian and African ancestry individuals. Our findings provide new insights into the genetics and biology of blood pressure, and suggest potential novel therapeutic pathways for cardiovascular disease prevention.

Análisis univariante y multivariante de factores predictivos de fracaso de fotovaporización con láser verde

Objectiu: Realitzar un estudi descriptiu de la implantació de la fotovaporització amb làser verd a un hospital comarcal i determinar quines son les condicions preoperatòries i intraoperatòries ideals per tal d’obtenir un resultat satisfactori. Material i mètodes: Revisió retrospectiva de 179 fotovaporitzacions prostàtiques realitzades entre gener 2007 y juny 2010 a l’Hospital de la Ribera (Alzira), analitzant l’experiència del cirurgià, edat dels pacients, volum prostàtic, PSA, IPSS, Qmax i antecedents preoperatoris, classificació ASA, paràmetres intraoperatoris com el temps quirúrgic, requeriments transfusionals, tipus de làser verd utilitzat i reconversió a RTU-p i postoperatoris on s’ha estudiat les complicacions postoperatories i de seguiment com el PSA, IPSS y Qmax i les reintervencions. Realitzem un estudi univariant i multivariant per a identificar quins paràmetres preoperatoris i intraoperatoris van a condicionar un fracàs terapèutic Resultats: En l’estudi descriptiu s’observa similars resultats en tots els paràmetres respecte a la literatura disponible En l’estudi multivariant, identifiquem la curta experiència del cirurgià i el volum prostàtic menor de 40 CC com els factors de risc independents de fracàs de la fotovaporització amb làser verd. Conclusions: la fotovaporització amb làser verd es un procediment efectiu i fàcilment reproduïble en el tractament desobstructiu del tracte urinari inferior d'origen prostàtic. Calen estudis multicèntrics, prospectius i aleatoritzats per confirmar els resultats d’aquest estudi, donat que en l’actualitat disposem de pocs articles que aporten un nivell de evidència i un nivell de recomanació elevats.

La traducció de llibres japonesos a Espanya : revisió bibliogràfica de textos i paratextos (1930-2005)

Aquesta investigació és un primer pas per a una anàlisi del paper de la traducció en la construcció de la imatge de l'Altre japonès. Aquesta tesina consta d'un corpus de literatura japonesa traduïda a Espanya entre el 1930 i el 2005, incloent els gèneres d'assaig i tècnico-científics, i una anàlisi de les dades principalment quantitativa. S'analitza el tipus de traducció (directa o indirecta) de forma diacrònica i per gèneres, i també la selecció temàtica per observar si es tendeix a l'"exotisme", així com la utilitat dels paratextos per a aconseguir informació sobre el procés traductor

Prostaglandin transporter mutations cause pachydermoperiostosis with myelofibrosis.

Pachydermoperiostosis, or primary hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (PHO), is an inherited multisystem disorder, whose features closely mimic the reactive osteoarthropathy that commonly accompanies neoplastic and inflammatory pathologies. We previously described deficiency of the prostaglandin-degrading enzyme 15-hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (HPGD) as a cause of this condition, implicating elevated circulating prostaglandin E(2) (PGE(2) ) as causative of PHO, and perhaps also as the principal mediator of secondary HO. However, PHO is genetically heterogeneous. Here, we use whole-exome sequencing to identify recessive mutations of the prostaglandin transporter SLCO2A1, in individuals lacking HPGD mutations. We performed exome sequencing of four probands with severe PHO, followed by conventional mutation analysis of SLCO2A1 in nine others. Biallelic SLCO2A1 mutations were identified in 12 of the 13 families. Affected individuals had elevated urinary PGE(2) , but unlike HPGD-deficient patients, also excreted considerable quantities of the PGE(2) metabolite, PGE-M. Clinical differences between the two groups were also identified, notably that SLCO2A1-deficient individuals have a high frequency of severe anemia due to myelofibrosis. These findings reinforce the key role of systemic or local prostaglandin excess as the stimulus to HO. They also suggest that the induction or maintenance of hematopoietic stem cells by prostaglandin may depend upon transporter activity. Hum Mutat 33:1175-1181, 2012. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

NS2 protein of hepatitis C virus interacts with structural and non-structural proteins towards virus assembly.

Growing experimental evidence indicates that, in addition to the physical virion components, the non-structural proteins of hepatitis C virus (HCV) are intimately involved in orchestrating morphogenesis. Since it is dispensable for HCV RNA replication, the non-structural viral protein NS2 is suggested to play a central role in HCV particle assembly. However, despite genetic evidences, we have almost no understanding about NS2 protein-protein interactions and their role in the production of infectious particles. Here, we used co-immunoprecipitation and/or fluorescence resonance energy transfer with fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy analyses to study the interactions between NS2 and the viroporin p7 and the HCV glycoprotein E2. In addition, we used alanine scanning insertion mutagenesis as well as other mutations in the context of an infectious virus to investigate the functional role of NS2 in HCV assembly. Finally, the subcellular localization of NS2 and several mutants was analyzed by confocal microscopy. Our data demonstrate molecular interactions between NS2 and p7 and E2. Furthermore, we show that, in the context of an infectious virus, NS2 accumulates over time in endoplasmic reticulum-derived dotted structures and colocalizes with both the envelope glycoproteins and components of the replication complex in close proximity to the HCV core protein and lipid droplets, a location that has been shown to be essential for virus assembly. We show that NS2 transmembrane region is crucial for both E2 interaction and subcellular localization. Moreover, specific mutations in core, envelope proteins, p7 and NS5A reported to abolish viral assembly changed the subcellular localization of NS2 protein. Together, these observations indicate that NS2 protein attracts the envelope proteins at the assembly site and it crosstalks with non-structural proteins for virus assembly.

In vivo synergism of ceftobiprole and vancomycin against experimental endocarditis due to vancomycin-intermediate Staphylococcus aureus.

The efficacy of ceftobiprole combined with vancomycin was tested against two vancomycin-intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (VISA) strains, PC3 and Mu50, in rats with experimental endocarditis. Animals with infected aortic vegetations were treated for 3 days with doses simulating the kinetics after intravenous administration in humans of (i) the standard dose of ceftobiprole of 500 mg every 12 h (b.i.d.) (SD-ceftobiprole), (ii) a low dose of ceftobiprole of 250 mg b.i.d. (LD-ceftobiprole), (iii) a very low dose of ceftobiprole of 125 mg b.i.d. (VLD-ceftobiprole), (iv) SD-vancomycin of 1 g b.i.d., or (v) LD- or VLD-ceftobiprole combined with SD-vancomycin. Low dosages of ceftobiprole were purposely used to highlight positive drug interactions. Treatment with SD-ceftobiprole sterilized 12 of 14 (86%) and 10 of 13 (77%) vegetations infected with PC3 and Mu50, respectively (P < 0.001 versus controls). In comparison, LD-ceftobiprole sterilized 10 of 11 (91%) vegetations infected with PC3 (P < 0.01 versus controls) but only 3 of 12 (25%) vegetations infected with Mu50 (P > 0.05 versus controls). VLD-ceftobiprole and SD-vancomycin alone were ineffective against both strains (≤8% sterile vegetations). In contrast, the combination of VLD-ceftobiprole and SD-vancomycin sterilized 7 of 9 (78%) and 6 of 14 (43%) vegetations infected with PC3 and Mu50, respectively, and the combination of LD-ceftobiprole and SD-vancomycin sterilized 5 of 6 (83%) vegetations infected with Mu50 (P < 0.05 versus controls and monotherapy). Thus, ceftobiprole monotherapy simulating standard therapeutic doses was active against VISA experimental endocarditis. Moreover, subtherapeutic LD- and VLD-ceftobiprole synergized with ineffective vancomycin to restore efficacy. Hence, combining ceftobiprole with vancomycin broadens the therapeutic margin of these two compounds against VISA infections.

Proyecto realizado para la empresa de reparación de aparatos eléctricos Domestic Appliance con el que se se pretende facilitar y mejorar el proceso de gestión de todas las reparaciones que se realizan mediante una aplicación web. A nivel de Pyme, se trata de un sistema básico de CRM (Customer Relationship Management) y de un gestor de incidencias con el que los empleados de la empresa Domestic Appliance podrán mantener un mejor seguimiento de todos los casos abiertos, ver estadísticas y obtener información de todos los clientes. El sistema se completa con la gestión de un correo interno dónde los usuarios se podrán enviar información confidencial entre ellos, actuando como un correo interno.

Novel loci for adiponectin levels and their influence on type 2 diabetes and metabolic traits: a multi-ethnic meta-analysis of 45,891 individuals.

Circulating levels of adiponectin, a hormone produced predominantly by adipocytes, are highly heritable and are inversely associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) and other metabolic traits. We conducted a meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies in 39,883 individuals of European ancestry to identify genes associated with metabolic disease. We identified 8 novel loci associated with adiponectin levels and confirmed 2 previously reported loci (P = 4.5×10(-8)-1.2×10(-43)). Using a novel method to combine data across ethnicities (N = 4,232 African Americans, N = 1,776 Asians, and N = 29,347 Europeans), we identified two additional novel loci. Expression analyses of 436 human adipocyte samples revealed that mRNA levels of 18 genes at candidate regions were associated with adiponectin concentrations after accounting for multiple testing (p<3×10(-4)). We next developed a multi-SNP genotypic risk score to test the association of adiponectin decreasing risk alleles on metabolic traits and diseases using consortia-level meta-analytic data. This risk score was associated with increased risk of T2D (p = 4.3×10(-3), n = 22,044), increased triglycerides (p = 2.6×10(-14), n = 93,440), increased waist-to-hip ratio (p = 1.8×10(-5), n = 77,167), increased glucose two hours post oral glucose tolerance testing (p = 4.4×10(-3), n = 15,234), increased fasting insulin (p = 0.015, n = 48,238), but with lower in HDL-cholesterol concentrations (p = 4.5×10(-13), n = 96,748) and decreased BMI (p = 1.4×10(-4), n = 121,335). These findings identify novel genetic determinants of adiponectin levels, which, taken together, influence risk of T2D and markers of insulin resistance.

La nación de "los otros". Afrodescendientes porteños y la construcción de la nación argentina a fines del siglo XIX

Investigación producida a partir de una estancia en Buenos Aires en septiembre del 2007. Los procesos de consolidación de las naciones-estado llevan consigo una serie de políticas y prácticas que se focalizan en la construcción del "pueblo". Particularmente, la construcción del estado nacional argentino en el siglo XIX implicó la definición -por parte de los grupos de poder- de un pueblo que cumpliera con las expectativas que se esperaban de una joven nación que se encaminaba hacia la civilización y el progreso, es decir, lo que en esa época se correspondía con un imaginario de pueblo blanco y europeo. Así, se propiciaron políticas de erosión de quienes habitaban en el territorio nacional pero que no cumplían con aquellos mandatos, promoviendo su “invisibilización”. Nosotros trabajamos una de estas comunidades erosionadas de la memoria y de la historia nacional argentina, la comunidad de afrodescendientes de Buenos Aires. El objeto de la investigación que se está llevando a cabo es justamente el análisis de la población afroargentina de Buenos Aires en las últimas décadas del siglo XIX, un momento en que su presencia e historia estaban siendo negadas de los discursos y de las prácticas. Esta investigación de corte histórico-antropológico necesita para su consecución de un trabajo exhaustivo de archivos, objetivo principal de la beca de investigación fuera de Cataluña. Lo que se intentó en el viaje fue encontrar y rescatar fuentes que permitieran entrever las dinámicas de esta comunidad, sus formas de resistir y/o de negociar un estado nacional cada vez más fuerte y que sentaba las bases de lo que debía ser el “pueblo argentino”.

La evaluación de la aceptabilidad de las traducciones: un estudio exploratorio sobre la idoneidad de los puntos ricos para evaluar traducciones

Aquest treball de recerca aborda l’Acceptabilitat (qualitat) de les traduccions des de diversos àmbits de la traducció: teoria de la traducció, àmbit professional, didàctica de la traducció i estudis empírics. Per allò, a partir de les publicacions fetes en aquest distints àmbits per diversos autors, grups de recerca i organismes oficials, es dedueix el que entén per una traducció de qualitat i es sintetitza fins a obtenir aquells criteris essencials d’Acceptabilitat que es desprenen de les seves publicacions, de manera que ens permeti contrastar-los entre si. Així mateix, insereix dins de la primera fase del projecte de recerca del grup PACTE (Adquisició de la Competència Traductora i Avaluació) es realitza un estudi exploratori sobre la idoneïtat dels Punts Rics com a mètode d’avaluació de la Acceptabilitat

Translating and analysing songs: three songs in the context of communist Romania

Songs were the means used by the Romanian Communist Party to ‘educate’ Romanians. Through them, Romanians were told what they had to appreciate, how grateful they were supposed to be to the regime, how great President Ceausescu was and how they had to work harder and harder so that they could be even better Communists. This paper comprises the translation of three songs composed, performed and broadcast in Communist Romania and their analysis from the point of view of communication. In translating the song, I have chosen to translate closest to the original possible meaning and meanwhile to respect to the best of my ability Low’s ‘pentathlon principle’: singability, rhyme, rhythm, naturalness and fidelity to the sense of the source text

Análisis de la alteración de la permeabilidad intestinal en pacientes con insuficiencia cardiaca aguda o crónica reagudizada.

Análisis de la alteración de la permeabilidad intestinal (P.I.) en pacientes críticos afectos de insuficiencia cardiaca aguda o crónica descompensada empleando la prueba de lactulosa/manitol administrada por vía enteral con recogida de la diuresis siguiente para calcular su ratio. Conclusiones: Existe una alteración funcional aunque no se ha podido relacionar con la gravedad del paciente, una relación entre la alteración y la hipoperfusión sistémica, una asociación entre la mejora de la función intestinal y la supervivencia y una relación entre la elevación de procalcitonina y la alteración de la permeabilidad que explicaría la traslocación bacteriana como fuente de los signos de infección que suelen presentar.

Deciphering the unusual HLA-A2/Melan-A/MART-1-specific TCR repertoire in humans.

The Melan-A/MART-1(26-35) antigenic peptide is one of the best studied human tumor-associated antigens. It is expressed in healthy melanocytes and malignant melanoma and is recognized by CD8(+) T cells in the context of the MHC class I molecule HLA-A*0201. While an unusually large repertoire of CD8(+) T cells specific for this antigen has been documented, the reasons for its generation have remained elusive. In this issue of the European Journal of Immunology, Pinto et al. [Eur. J. Immunol. 2014. 44: 2811-2821] uncover one important mechanism by comparing the thymic expression of the Melan-A gene to that in the melanocyte lineage. This study shows that medullary thymic epithelial cells (mTECs) dominantly express a truncated Melan-A transcript, the product of misinitiation of transcription. Consequently, the protein product in mTECs lacks the immunodominant epitope spanning residues 26-35, thus precluding central tolerance to this antigen. In contrast, melanocytes and melanoma tumor cells express almost exclusively the full-length Melan-A transcript, thus providing the target antigen for efficient recognition by HLA-A2-restricted CD8(+) T cells. The frequency of these alternative gene transcription modes may be more common than previously appreciated and may represent an important factor modulating the efficiency of central tolerance induction in the thymus.
