This article has developed with the intention of analyzing how the stereotypes, prejudices and lies can influence the education of the children. Formation, that usually comes from family and teachers, who sometimes move for extremist ideologies. There exist multiple fictions in which we observe these social archetypes, but it is the case of the movie Pa negre (Agustí Villaronga, 2010), where the principal personage evolves psychologically, because of that its eyes observe and the ideas that the people transmit him on its family, in the rural environments, where the tradition of the rumors coexists.

The St. Catharines and District Council of Women was founded in 1918 and elected as its first president, Mary Malcolmson. In 1910 Mrs. Malcolmson founded North America’s first Girl Guide Association in St. Catharines. The aim of the organization was to work for the betterment of conditions pertaining to the family, community and state. The Council is an umbrella group for various women’s organizations in the area and functions at the provincial, national and international levels and is associated with the United Nations. In the early years the National Council brought in the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) and started the Women’s Canadian Club. The St. Catharines Council initiated Child Welfare Centres in local churches that grew into the Well Baby Clinics. Women were encouraged to take political office and join committees with much success. In 1929, “Shop at Home” exhibition became an annual event highlighting the services of local merchants. Money raised by the Council was donated to local charities and in 1930 the Council assisted the local Armenian community in building the first Armenian Church in Canada. In 1932 the Council started the Maternal Welfare programme in which Mothers’ Meetings were held weekly with various speakers from the Public Health Department. In 1975 to celebrate International Women’s Year and the 1976 Centennial of the City of St. Catharines, the group sponsored the book Women of Action, 1876-1976, written by two of its members, Lily M. Bell and Kathleen E. Bray. Some time after 1976 the name of the organization changed from St. Catharines Local Council of Women to St. Catharines and District Council of Women. Today the organization functions as an advocacy and educational group.

Certificate, 51 cm. x 75 cm. with a coloured picture of the Colonial and Indian Exhibition in London, 1886. This was presented with a commemorative medal to Henry Pafford who was the Mayor of Niagara-on-the-Lake 1863-74, 1876-1880 and 1888-1896. He also ran a drug store and a fruit farm. The award is signed by the Executive President and Secretary to the Royal Commission. [There is no indication what the award is for and the medal is not included in this collection], n.d.

Conocer la incidencia de la actividad de la Editorial Calleja sobre los procesos de innovaci??n educativa de la Espa??a de la Restauraci??n. Analizar la contribuci??n de esta editorial, a trav??s de su fondo y de su actividad educadora, a los procesos de renovaci??n de la sociedad espa??ola entre 1876 y 1930. Se realizan an??lisis comparativos de la producci??n de la Editorial Calleja y otras casas y an??lisis estad??sticos, bibliom??tricos y sociom??tricos de literatura infantil y juvenil y de textos did??cticos seg??n ??reas de conocimiento. Se procede a la selecci??n de las fuentes y a su clasificaci??n, tabulando las series de catalogaci??n en fichas m??ltiples. Se analiza el contexto hist??rico, social, cultural y educativo de la Espa??a de la Restauraci??n. Se procede al an??lisis de los textos did??cticos publicados por la Editorial Calleja, divididos en tres grupos: 1. Textos did??cticos, 2. Libros de lectura y cuentos, 3. Material escolar. Fichas m??ltiples. Las innovaciones educativas aportadas por la Casa Editorial Calleja se refieren a las caracter??sticas materiales de los libros, a su contenido y a los procedimientos did??cticos que se plantean. Se afirma que la Editorial Calleja incidi?? en el proceso modernizador de Espa??a pues en su estrategia de comercializaci??n se ofrecen varias ediciones a diferentes precios, lo que hace popular la instrucci??n, la educaci??n y la lectura. La inclusi??n de ilustraciones en las obras introduce valores est??ticos entre ni??os, maestros y mayores. En los libros de texto se introducen cuestionarios, problemas y ejercicios para permitir la aplicaci??n y facilitar la acci??n del maestro. Los cuentos y libros de Calleja constituyen una clara exhibici??n del panorama cultural y cient??fico, pol??tico y social del pa??s y sirvieron para acercar la lectura a las clases sociales menos favorecidas.

It compiled and published by M.G. Cook and Frank O. Ellis in 1876. Scale [ca. 1:422,400]. Covers also portions of New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the USA Contiguous Albers Equal Area Conic projection (Meters). All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, or other information associated with the principal map. This map shows features such as railroads, post routes and offices together with population and valuation of cities and towns, distances between post offices, drainage, state, county, and town boundaries, and more. Includes table of population and valuation by county and cities of Boston and vicinity, and table of distances. This layer is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps of New England from the Harvard Map Collection. These maps typically portray both natural and manmade features. The selection represents a range of regions, originators, ground condition dates, scales, and purposes.
