This work presents the modeling and FPGA implementation of digital TIADC mismatches compensation systems. The development of the whole work follows a top-down methodology. Following this methodology was developed a two channel TIADC behavior modeling and their respective offset, gain and clock skew mismatches on Simulink. In addition was developed digital mismatch compensation system behavior modeling. For clock skew mismatch compensation fractional delay filters were used, more specifically, the efficient Farrow struct. The definition of wich filter design methodology would be used, and wich Farrow structure, required the study of various design methods presented in literature. The digital compensation systems models were converted to VHDL, for FPGA implementation and validation. These system validation was carried out using the test methodology FPGA In Loop . The results obtained with TIADC mismatch compensators show the high performance gain provided by these structures. Beyond this result, these work illustrates the potential of design, implementation and FPGA test methodologies.

Currently making digital 3D models and replicas of the cultural heritage assets play an important role in the preservation and having a high detail source for future research and intervention. In this dissertation, it is tried to assess different methods for digital surveying and making 3D replicas of cultural heritage assets in different scales of size. The methodologies vary in devices, software, workflow, and the amount of skill that is required. The three phases of the 3D modelling process are data acquisition, modelling, and model presentation. Each of these sections is divided into sub-sections and there are several approaches, methods, devices, and software that may be employed, furthermore, the selection process should be based on the operation's goal, available facilities, the scale and properties of the object or structure to be modeled, as well as the operators' expertise and experience. The most key point to remember is that the 3D modelling operation should be properly accurate, precise, and reliable; therefore, there are so many instructions and pieces of advice on how to perform 3D modelling effectively. It is an attempt to compare and evaluate the various ways of each phase in order to explain and demonstrate their differences, benefits, and drawbacks in order to serve as a simple guide for new and/or inexperienced users.

We preserit a computational procedure to control art experimental chaotic system by applying the occasional proportional feedback (OPF) method. The method implementation uses the fuzzy theory to relate the variable correction to the necessary adjustment in the control parameter. As an application We control the chaotic attractors of the Chua circuit. We present file developed circuits and algorithms to implement this control in real time. To simplify the used procedure, we use it low resolution analog to digital converter compensated for a lowpass filter that facilitates similar applications to control other systems. This paper proposes a wireless EEG acquisition platform based on Open Multimedia Architecture Platform (OMAP) embedded system. A high-impedance active dry electrode was tested for improving the scalp- electrode interface. It was used the sigma-delta ADS1298 analog-to-digital converter, and developed a “kernelspace” character driver to manage the communications between the converter unit and the OMAP’s ARM core. The acquired EEG signal data is processed by a “userspace” application, which accesses the driver’s memory, saves the data to a SD-card and transmits them through a wireless TCP/IP-socket to a PC. The electrodes were tested through the alpha wave replacement phenomenon. The experimental results presented the expected alpha rhythm (8-13 Hz) reactiveness to the eyes opening task. The driver spends about 725 μs to acquire and store the data samples. The application takes about 244 μs to get the data from the driver and 1.4 ms to save it in the SD-card. A WiFi throughput of 12.8Mbps was measured which results in a transmission time of 5 ms for 512 kb of data. The embedded system consumes about 200 mAh when wireless off and 400 mAh when it is on. The system exhibits a reliable performance to record EEG signals and transmit them wirelessly. Besides the microcontroller-based architectures, the proposed platform demonstrates that powerful ARM processors running embedded operating systems can be programmed with real-time constrains at the kernel level in order to control hardware, while maintaining their parallel processing abilities in high level software applications.

O estudo das curvas características de um transístor permite conhecer um conjunto de parâmetros essenciais à sua utilização tanto no domínio da amplificação de sinais como em circuitos de comutação. Deste estudo é possível obter dados em condições que muitas vezes não constam na documentação fornecida pelos fabricantes. O trabalho que aqui se apresenta consiste no desenvolvimento de um sistema que permite de forma simples, eficiente e económica obter as curvas características de um transístor (bipolar de junção, efeito de campo de junção e efeito de campo de metal-óxido semicondutor), podendo ainda ser utilizado como instrumento pedagógico na introdução ao estudo dos dispositivos semicondutores ou no projecto de amplificadores transistorizados. O sistema é constituído por uma unidade de condicionamento de sinal, uma unidade de processamento de dados (hardware) e por um programa informático que permite o processamento gráfico dos dados obtidos, isto é, traçar as curvas características do transístor. O seu princípio de funcionamento consiste na utilização de um conversor Digital-Analógico (DAC) como fonte de tensão variável, alimentando a base (TBJ) ou a porta (JFET e MOSFET) do dispositivo a testar. Um segundo conversor fornece a variação da tensão VCE ou VDS necessária à obtenção de cada uma das curvas. O controlo do processo é garantido por uma unidade de processamento local, baseada num microcontrolador da família 8051, responsável pela leitura dos valores em corrente e em tensão recorrendo a conversores Analógico-Digital (ADC). Depois de processados, os dados são transmitidos através de uma ligação USB para um computador no qual um programa procede à representação gráfica, das curvas características de saída e à determinação de outros parâmetros característicos do dispositivo semicondutor em teste. A utilização de componentes convencionais e a simplicidade construtiva do projecto tornam este sistema económico, de fácil utilização e flexível, pois permite com pequenas alterações

Atualmente, as radiações ionizantes desempenham um papel fundamental nas áreas de diagnóstico e terapia, estando omnipresentes em ambientes hospitalares. Contudo, devido aos efeitos biológicos adversos da radiação, torna-se essencial a protecção dos profissionais de saúde e pacientes. Consequentemente, um array de detetores capazes de produzir um sinal acústico, aquando da presença de radiação ionizante excedendo determinados valores limite e transmissão via wireless das leituras para um sistema central _e de grande interesse prático. Nesta dissertação, foi implementado um sistema capaz de alimentar um array de sensores de radiação para monitorização de diferentes espaços e transmissão das leituras efetuadas via wireless. A aquisição de dados foi realizada, recorrendo à utilização de um conversor analógico-digital. Vários testes de validação foram realizados, através de vários passos para alcançar a concretização do sistema final, nomeadamente testes relativos ao circuito de detecção, módulos de comunicação wireless, bem como o uso de diferentes ambientes de desenvolvimento integrados (IDE). Os resultados destes testes mostram a visualização e gravação adequadas dos dados relativos aos níveis de radiação, bem como a transmissão de dados de forma viável, permitindo a monitorização de espaços sujeitos à presença de radiação ionizante. Desta forma, um array de contadores Geiger-Müller, ligados a módulos wireless XBee open-source e uma placa Arduino, possibilitou a implementação de um sistema viável e de baixo custo para monitorização de radiação ionizante e registar esses mesmos dados para posterior análise.

El sistema desarrollado en este trabajo permite la detección de fatiga del músculo de un paciente. Las señales electromiográficas generadas por el músculo son detectadas mediante electrodos superficiales, que sirven de entrada al circuito hacia los diferentes canales de entrada. Tras una primera etapa de amplificación, las señales son filtradas por un filtro pasabanda. Las señales acondicionadas se digitalizan mediante un conversor analógico digital que está conectado a un microcontrolador. Éste establece la comunicación con el PC enviándole los datos a través del puerto serie. Finalmente, mediante un programa implementado en Labview se procesan los datos y se determina la existencia o no de fatiga muscular.

Työssä tarkastellaan kolmen eri valmistajan signaaliprosessoriperheitä. Työn tavoitteena on tutkia prosessoreiden teknistä soveltuvuutta suunnitteilla olevaan taajuusmuuttajatuoteperheeseen. Työn alkuosassa käydään taajuusmuuttajan rakenne läpi ja selostetaan oikosulkumoottorin yleisimmät ohjausmenetelmät. Työssä selvitetään myös signaaliprosessorin ja integroitujen oheispiirien toimintaa. Työn painopiste prosessoreiden teknisten ominaisuuksien vertailussa. Työssä on vertailtu muun muassa prosessoreiden sisäistä rakennetta, käskykantojen ominaisuuksia, keskeytysten palveluun kuluvaa aikaa ja oheispiirien ominaisuuksia. Oheispiirien, erityisesti analogiadigitaalimuuntimen halutunlainen toiminta on moottorinohjausohjelmiston kannalta tärkeää. Työhön sisällytetyt prosessoriperheet on pisteytetty tarkasteltujen ominaisuuksien osalta. Vertailun tuloksena on esitetty haettuun tarkoitukseen teknisesti soveltuvin prosessoriperhe ja prosessorityyppi. Työssä ei kuitenkaan voida antaa yleistä paremmuusjärjestystä tutkituille prosessoreille.

A piezoelectric detector based on a commercial quartz crystal of 3.57MHz is shown. A PTFE cell attached to the GC-column outlet holds the polymer-coated crystal, whose terminals were removed. Two TTL oscillators (reference and sensor) are used and the beating of their frequencies is monitored through a home-made counter card inserted in a microcomputer. The original thermal conductivity detector was also interfaced, but through a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter. In spite of the well-known fact that QCM has low sensitivity at high temperatures, results show significant peak deformation for low temperatures. In addition, the phenomenon is also dependent on the chemical composition of the absorbent film besides instantaneous partial pressure and chemical composition of the analyte.

A digital multimeter (~U$ 240.00 on the national market) connected to a microcomputer by a RS-232 serial interface is proposed for data acquisition in equipment with analog output. Data are measured at the rate of 2 points per second and stored in text files by the software that accompanies the device, running in a Windows environment. The performance of the multimeter was verified by monitoring the transient signals generated in flow injection systems associated with fluorimetric, spectrophotometric and flame photometric detection. In addition, the performance of the proposed device was similar to that attained by employing an interface card with a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter for acquisition of the signals generated by a capillary electrophoresis equipment with oscillometric detection.

The aim of the present study was to compare the modulation of heart rate in a group of postmenopausal women to that of a group of young women under resting conditions on the basis of R-R interval variability. Ten healthy postmenopausal women (mean ± SD, 58.3 ± 6.8 years) and 10 healthy young women (mean ± SD, 21.6 ± 0.82 years) were submitted to a control resting electrocardiogram (ECG) in the supine and sitting positions over a period of 6 min. The ECG was obtained from a one-channel heart monitor at the CM5 lead and processed and stored using an analog to digital converter connected to a microcomputer. R-R intervals were calculated on a beat-to-beat basis from the ECG recording in real time using a signal-processing software. Heart rate variability (HRV) was expressed as standard deviation (RMSM) and mean square root (RMSSD). In the supine position, the postmenopausal group showed significantly lower (P<0.05) median values of RMSM (34.9) and RMSSD (22.32) than the young group (RMSM: 62.11 and RMSSD: 49.1). The same occurred in the sitting position (RMSM: 33.0 and RMSSD: 18.9 compared to RMSM: 57.6 and RMSSD: 42.8 for the young group). These results indicate a decrease in parasympathetic modulation in postmenopausal women compared to young women which was possibly due both to the influence of age and hormonal factors. Thus, time domain HRV proved to be a noninvasive and sensitive method for the identification of changes in autonomic modulation of the sinus node in postmenopausal women.
